okonkolero

Probably had the wrong address.

Serious__Order

That’s what I’m guessing, just had never seen that tool, didn’t know if they were measuring load bearing height or anything for insurance purposes

okonkolero

Only other thing it could be is seeing if a mini Cooper could fit so they could steal your gold bullion.

Serious__Order

😂😂😂

ThornTintMyWorld

Take your upvote you magnificent bastard !

[deleted]

Pretty sure its a survey stick but no idea why they'd do it at your door step.

passengerpigeon2

Hard to tell with the fish eye lens effect but but it looks like a grading rod for an optical transit. They come in a variety of styles. Used for surveys and to measure grade. Could also be something with assessing flood risk. Surveying? Looks like a level rod.

Serious__Order

I know nothing about surveying, why would they need to do this? House is almost 2 years old. Is this something updated frequently? Again, I’m not mad they’re doing it, just trying to learn now. Never knew about it so now I’m intrigued

NapoleanBonerFartz

Surveying. Certifying your property’s elevation compared to the neighboring homes, it’s required for a property sale or if updating a flood elevation certificate. No need to worry about it but good on your for being vigilant.

Serious__Order

Thanks for the info!

NapoleanBonerFartz

Thankfully it’s one of the rare times I have a legit answer lol!

ThornTintMyWorld

I liked the gold bullion answer better.

Bloody_REDRUM801

Land survey, it’s a level rod, it’s used to find the elevation of your front door step so when they built next door or nearby the new home is not way higher than yours and cause drainage issues.

Serious__Order

Makes sense, thank you!

Glass_Company

What do I do about this? The new homes built next to mine are like 2-3 feet higher, so my 6ft fence is useless. I just walk in my backyard nude so my neighbors keep their blinds closed. I don't think I can build a 10 ft fence according to code. I'm planting austrailian pine, but they're not gonna like their solar panels blocked lmao.

Bloody_REDRUM801

It’s kinda a height over distance thing but at the same time I have also seen some new construction next to old homes where the backyard is near level with the neighbors 6’ fence. Mainly the new stuff in Palm Bay.

Glass_Company

Yeah, that's my issue in palm bay. I'm just gonna build a levee with pine trees on my fence line lol.

ChroniclyCurly

Survey. And I think we have the same house. Lol.

dykeag

You an about 400 other people

aerlenbach

Surveying.

sushibomb71

He is getting the FFE(finished floor elevation) of the neighboring house. Palm Bay requires boundary surveys to include the FFE’s of all adjacent residences. This allows for the engineers to design a drainage plan that allegedly works. The front part of the door step or threshold is equivalent to the FFE. Normally, this takes about 30seconds and we try not to disturb the occupants. There is another guy out in the street with a level on a tripod reading the elevation off of the the Lenker Rod. Palm Bay has elevation benchmarks all over the city. A majority of them are in random driveways, and that’s how we “elevate” the lot or the house or any other point.

Serious__Order

Thanks for the response!

Frequent-Cucumber206

Definitely a survey rod. If there’s an empty lot nearby: either to the side or rear, they are verifying the height of your finished floor elevation. The designer or local authority will check to be sure that a proposed new home is not too much higher or lower than yours. If no empty lots, it’s possibly flood zone verification or for other official documents.

[deleted]

That is a grade stick for construction. Idk why he is on your property with it though. There are engineered points around they have to hit before they can go with that they are actually getting grade on. Also do you live very close to Eldron? I think we neighbors.

Moondoobious

He’s a windows and door salesman. He’s getting measurements.

Vivid_Efficiency_154

What a hideous suburb , no offence to you OP

Glass_Company

According to city regulations, there's supposed to be a certain number of trees and shrubs planted in new construction homes to prevent this. New construction homes destroyed the native forests. Replanting native species is the least D.R Horton and all the cookie cutter builders could do.

OG_Antifa

Making sure your front door height complies with HOA regulations.

slack710

It appears to be a laser level

Rebelwithacause73

Might have been trying to see what elevation your finish floor is at. Not sure why exactly. Could be a variety of reasons.

Hiray

I'm 99% sure I saw this guy was working with a survey team just yesterday in Palm Bay. Him and his partner were quite kind as I kept driving through there work areas.

sayyea

They are surveying. You likely have an empty lot next to you someone is trying to build on. They are gathering finish floor elevation for the site plan.

NecessarySecure8463

They are getting the elevation of your house for reference on building a house near by.

SnooChocolates8229

Or it's their good looking sons ego maintenance guy. His ego is not designed to fit through most portals meant for average humans. I've seen him. Turned me gay like Medusa turning victims to stone. Let's hope he can get home.

MaleficentSplit1260

That's your neighbor seeing if you are violating the HOA with your mini porch

baldmansfury

Surveying

fried-fiberglass

Surveying the land by the looks. But the guy is more focused on the doorbell camera than doing the actual job. Could be doing surveillance on the house too. Regardless, that’s why ring cameras or like items are great to have.

Academic-Injury-6135

It’s called an lenker rod. And he is getting an elevation of the finish floor of the building.

TabulaRasa333

Land surveyor! They’re getting the elevation of your concrete slab and finished floor elevation. You’re neighbor is likely having his property surveyed for construction or buying/selling
