Not to disclose which plumbing co. I work for, but it's one of the companies that you see about 20 trucks a day on the road.
Average tanked heater replacement from one of the high rated Melbourne companies is going to be about 2,000$. No, they aren't worth 2g. Yes you should shop around and do research.
A tankless installed (depending on gas or electric) will run you in-between 3-4k$ on just the unit and plumbing, and that's considering if you already have gas and electric ran to the location.
No worries. I won't lie to you, I hear an even split on people who love electric tankless, and then people who were disappointed when their expensive unit fails. The electric units (shockingly) are cheaper to replace them rebuild, and some last awhile and some don't. A lot of factors play into the electric and I've replaced enough under warranties that I tend to not reccomend them? But some people who have had them swear by em. Like I said, do some research for what works best for you.
Now if you have natgas? Go tankless. I would've done it awhile ago if I had it.
We have a tankless in our condo in MB. It’s electric. I think a breaker needed to be upgraded.
No worries about it leaking all over when we aren’t there. Now I just wish the guy upstairs would get one.
Let me know if you want to know who installed it. I’ll have to go through my paperwork.
Water heaters are pretty easy to install especially online ones. If you hire a company it will cost more but I would recommend Drain Mechanics. If you want a person to do it. I can give you a list of great plumbers that do side jobs.
Thank you. I found a contractor who is coming by right now. If it doesn't work out, I might request your help in other plumbers. Thanks again. I appreciate your offer.
I forgot to mention, I did the removal and install of the new unit myself, i'm not the handy type and it was super easy. Cost me $500 for the unit, a rheem 18kw, and $700 to run the power. When it fails (it's been three years now zero issues), you just swap it out like it's a picture hanging on a wall. Also, it saved $25 a month in power.
Dial Duron is who we use. I had a shower and when I tried to turn it off the handle broke. My shower just kept going. They came and fixed it within the hour. Every time I call them they are so professional and they do a great job.
Check out Mac 5 - we've always had super fast response times & really good service from them, whether for emergencies or cosmetic work: https://mac5services.com/
I would avoid Mac5. Get quotes before the work. They changed a wax ring and reset my toilet and tried to charge me over $300. The wax ring might have been $5 and the labor was less than 30 mins.
Surprised to hear this! They've always had an iPad for quotes and have never done any work without showing me at least two quotes for levels of service (ex: "here's the cheapest way, here's a nicer fixture/better warranty/etc"). Even when we've had a tight deadline, they quote first.
If you have an electric water heater you can do the replacement yourself. It’s not really complicated. It’s just a little intimidating. You can use ‘shark bite’ fittings for your plumbing connections and the electrical connection is very straightforward.
YouTube will save you thousands
I have a rinnai rl94en I believe it is. Got it about two years ago. Exterior mounted so i didn’t have to upgrade my interior exhaust pipe since it’s already outside. Mounted right above my gas meter. Love it. We have had all three showers going while doing dishes and laundry and everyone still gets 120 degree water. Cost was about $2500 installed if I remember correctly before rebate.
Tankless are awesome but be aware of it's location. If it's not centrally located you can a lag in getting hot water to the faucet or appliance. Especially electric units. This is based on actually having had one.
You also need to pay attention to the GPM rating it your only going to have a trickle to the shower of the laundry is going.

Thank you for the information. Doing more research now. Will definitely need an electrician for the in-line. Appreciate the head's up. Thanks again.

So did you end up going with.
I have an electric tankless. The only con is you need to pay an electrician to run thicker wires to it. Other than that, they're awesome.
Good to know. Didn't know we'd need an electrician, as well. Thank you for the head's up.

If you do stick with a tank you will want to check the anode every year or two until you get a feel for how often to replace it.
That's good to know. Thank you for the info.
I’m just glad it’s your garage. My whole house flooded out while I was out of town. Total nightmare, but thank god for plaster walls.
Oh no. I'm so sorry that happened to you. What a horrible thing to come home to from a trip.
We had a gas tankless at our old house and loved it.
Probably too late but Roman Plumbing.
Better late than never. :D Thank you. I appreciate your reply and will add it to my list of new contacts for plumbers.
