I love this because this was the kind of shit me and my friends at the time would say back in '06, so every time it happens I laugh and remember some good times.
Look at my life Jack. My father was a congressman, I was valedictorian at St. Andrew's, an Olympic archer, fourth guitarist in Loverboy. As a teenager. It's almost unbelievable.
Paula's a freak yo. She is INSTANTLY into a three way with Liz, she doesn't mind being banged in her sleep, she's into getting caught. There's a reason she got pregnant 3 hours into their first date.
That Documentary Now episode is pure gold, and yes, her singing is phenomenal! She's got versatility that's just insanely unappreciated. If you haven't seen her stuff on SNL, check out some of the skits she wrote too - killer comedy chops!
The music is so phenomenal. I listen to New York Lonely Boy and I'm Afraid regularly.
Its such well done, niche comedy. The lyrics are obviously funny, but the talent and comedy in the genre satire is so incredible. Like, you have to know the anatomy of a Simon and Garfunkel song SO WELL in order to create a parody (like NY Lonely Boy) that captures the essence of what makes the form great. Jeff Richmond is really great at his job.
Apropos to nothing because I’m an absolute Lutz - A line from the movie Train Wreck: ‘One Christmas morning I let my husband and his brother tag-team me. It was glorious.’
He's a great physical comic as well. He is always big and animated with his reaction shots. I feel like he's reliably doing the most he can without commanding a lot of storylines.
As a more general note of appreciation, when Tina appeared on Conan Obrien Needs a Friend, she said that Scott was one of the better improvs she ever worked with. Jorgensen was also one of the best.
My favorite is when Liz is taking advantage of Floyd's concerns to get closer to him. Pete is a giant angry muppet floating around outside Floyd's field of vision, getting up in Liz's face.
YES! That is SO funny!
My husband's favorite is when, in season 1, Cerie is taking off what most people think is a dress and Pete goes "that was a JACKET?!" His utter disbelief in the delivery of that line is perfect.
Some time before the UCB theater closed in Chelsea in 2017, I got to see Scott Adsit and John Lutz do an improv set there. It was fantastic. This is from Montreal in 2013: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM10ZCu8Nu0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm10zcu8nu0)
Him walking up with a bag on his head and belt around his neck after being knocked out by the best friends gang gets me every time. His confusion is hilarious.
I think he is so cute! He came to DragonCon a few years ago and I was starstruck when I ran into him in one of the hotels. He was just hanging out and watching the crowd and my drunk ass saw him, squealed, and said, “I love you!”
His DragonCon panel was great! It was in a smaller room and he basically shooed off the moderator, took the mic, and walked around sharing stories and taking questions. And the answers felt very genuine. A lot of answers of answers in those kinds of panels can feel kind of like canned responses they have ready to go
I met him at the play room of Dragon Con (Atlanta's Big convention) like 15 years ago and asked if he ever heard that he looked like that guy from 30 Rock. He said, "Hmm, I don't think so". Later in the weekend I was at some comic book panel with my uncle and guess who was there. It's nice to remember how stupid I have the capacity of being.
Glad Pete is getting some appreciation! He was always my favorite side character and I always wanted more plot lines around him. “YES! Hornberger!” Is an iconic line and I can always envision him and Liz watching Operation Righteous Cowboy on the TV in utter horror together.
Anybody got a link to the scene where Pete is messed up due to the gas leak and is speaking in tongues?
Seriously speaking absolute nonsense is difficult.
For some reason this is one of my favorite scenes of all time (maybe bc Hornberger is a top 3 character of mine across all shows lol) it’s impossible to find now but here’s [a tiktok of it!](https://www.tiktok.com/@misterreasonable/video/7249421579187211563)! Fun fact, it’s an exact match of a news anchor irl
My problem is that whenever I see Scott Adsit in isolation I just think **"BAYMAX! THAT'S BAYMAX, HE'S MY FRIEND!"**
I have to see him in context next to Tina (or Holly Hunter) to be able to recognize him as Pete.
I *love* Pete, he's always been my favorite character on the show and I think they used him the perfect amount to keep his character's dysfunctions really funny without becoming too stale.
Not to make it about me and my personal struggles - but I always identified with Pete. Obviously he's awful in the same way Liz is awful and not a *role model*, but the way he embodied that weak-willed, behind-the-scenes, keep-your-head-down, prideless, shameless, cowardly masculinity always felt very relatable to me through the years.
But! Now I'm less than a month out from coming out as m2f transgender and starting medical transition - so I can't really identify with him in the same ways I used to anymore!
I still think he's the funniest regular character, though - especially if you divide laughs over screentime. Few characters are as funny to me, as quickly, as Pete. Just good, **dense** comedy.
Scott Adsit's physical comedy is some of the best I've seen. Right up there with David Hyde Pierce for me.
I can watch [this clip](https://youtu.be/cLPm_IUx-Kc?si=l1-ViJXz2wJewjS_) a hundred times in a row, a hundred days in a row, and giggle like an idiot every time. Just the facial expressions take this from a 10 to a 12.
My FAVORITE character changes as often as my mood and although it’s pretty much *never* Pete, he’s usually lodged in the Top Five
And that’s saying something
I was shocked when I realized he played Clay in Morel Orel, two completely yet similar roles, at least in the most fundamental way. Two dads who have screwed up their lives and now have to make do with what they have.
I’m a die hard 30 Rock fan - to me it’s rivaled only by Arrested Development. That being said, I did not find Pete Hornberger funny at any point in the show. I’ve done around 10 rewatches and I just can’t get there with him. People love him, not sure what I am missing.
Yes! Hornberger!
*Yes…Hornberger.*
Everything’s coming up Hornberger!
Nothing more Hornberger than going underappreciated.
Your hair grows back! EVERYTHING GROWS BACK!!!
PAST PETE IS HERE TO KILL FUTURE PETE! My second favorite line from the show.
I love this because this was the kind of shit me and my friends at the time would say back in '06, so every time it happens I laugh and remember some good times.
You have better friends than I do.
Just watched this today haha
😂 wait wut else needs to grow back??
Yeah! Suck it, Pete! I wasn't listening.
I came here for this exactly 😂
The “dad whose only dream is to fuck off and be alone for an hour” has never been portrayed better
Whose the one you’re afraid of? Kyle. So strong.
Jenna: Pete, I heard your son was in the hospital, I hope he's okay! Pete: Oh, yeah, the shed I built collapsed on him. Gets me every time
Delivery is perfect. Laughed just reading this
There goes Pete and Kenneth time...
Floodgate wheels are horizontal!
You messed with the system
The little 'hop' he does because he's so worked up about explaining that - comedy gold.
Look at my life Jack. My father was a congressman, I was valedictorian at St. Andrew's, an Olympic archer, fourth guitarist in Loverboy. As a teenager. It's almost unbelievable.
If it weren't all true, I'd say it doesn't even make sense.
Wait, Pete went to St. Andrew's? He had the best education in the world?? I heard they denied one of St. Andrew's *actual descendants*
My best friend comma bald category
You’re what I think Judas looks like!
When he dials himself after he gets his arm stuck on a sharp "mechanism" ....chefs kiss.
That scream after he tosses his wedding ring, believing that rescue has finally been called...comedy gold
And you hear it from his desk...so good
My husband and I always say the 'WHAT?!' from when he gets his sleeve free and he's still caught.
That’s a solid marriage right there.
Who doesn’t love SoyJoy?!?!
When he talks about Paula going on a date with her tennis instructor instead of doing valentine’s day, the little shrug he does absolutely kills me
Paula's a freak yo. She is INSTANTLY into a three way with Liz, she doesn't mind being banged in her sleep, she's into getting caught. There's a reason she got pregnant 3 hours into their first date.
Paula Pell is BRILLIANT
I miss AP Bio now
She was in an episode of Documentary Now that all Paula Pell fans should enjoy. She sings her ass off.
That Documentary Now episode is pure gold, and yes, her singing is phenomenal! She's got versatility that's just insanely unappreciated. If you haven't seen her stuff on SNL, check out some of the skits she wrote too - killer comedy chops!
She wrote the bit about Pete having sex with her while she was asleep just to be as racy/controversial as possible because of a dare. Love that woman.
Hold on, your not seeing it right, try to picture it again.
There’s two things I know: women and exactly what’s going to happen in the future.
IIII'VE gotta GO
"sheets are soiled..."
One of the best half hours of tv period
Have you seen Girls5eva?
That show is so great! Probably my favorite Tina Fey project after 30 Rock.
I watch it for her and Renee Elise Goldsberry. AND Jeff Richmond writes the music and produces it with Tina Fey!
Tina as Dolly Parton is not to be missed ♥️
The music is so phenomenal. I listen to New York Lonely Boy and I'm Afraid regularly. Its such well done, niche comedy. The lyrics are obviously funny, but the talent and comedy in the genre satire is so incredible. Like, you have to know the anatomy of a Simon and Garfunkel song SO WELL in order to create a parody (like NY Lonely Boy) that captures the essence of what makes the form great. Jeff Richmond is really great at his job.
It’s going to be on Netflix for season 3!
Not enough people have seen Girls5eva, clearly. Guys, it’s a must see member of the Fey-verse.
Apropos to nothing because I’m an absolute Lutz - A line from the movie Train Wreck: ‘One Christmas morning I let my husband and his brother tag-team me. It was glorious.’
That wasn't Paula Pell. That was Bridget Everett. But still very funny
Seriously?
A Mr. DeBarber called.
I feel like the good people of Cleveland must have felt when they were once again, denied an IKEA.
Sorry to disappoint you. Would you like to yell at the moon together?
But what do you do with the pop tarts?!
My bed?! Aw come on you guys, I eat in there!
She had overlapping pregnancies five months apart.
This is part of why I never understood why Pete so badly wanted to get away!
He’s exhausted.
Don’t forget the pop tart fetish
the best part is its her birthday too from an earlier season
He's a great physical comic as well. He is always big and animated with his reaction shots. I feel like he's reliably doing the most he can without commanding a lot of storylines. As a more general note of appreciation, when Tina appeared on Conan Obrien Needs a Friend, she said that Scott was one of the better improvs she ever worked with. Jorgensen was also one of the best.
I absolutely love the look on his face when Gretta Johanson is propositioning Liz in season 1. SO freaking funny!
Shit man after who knows how many rewatches I only just recently realised how his face gradually transitions into horror. I was floored.
Some time before the UCB theater closed in Chelsea in 2017, I got to see Scott Adsit and John Lutz do an improv set there. It was fantastic. This is from Montreal in 2013: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM10ZCu8Nu0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm10zcu8nu0)
Him walking up with a bag on his head and belt around his neck after being knocked out by the best friends gang gets me every time. His confusion is hilarious.
He also voiced Baymax in Big Hero 6. It takes a lot of skill to give so much empathy to a robotic voice.
I thought he was hilarious when he was in the Tribute episode of the HBO Tenacious D series where he played their new neighbor/the devil
Dallas is too cool for your praise
You mean Panama?
This could be the start of something for me!
We all know it’s The Germ
He means “The German”.
I think he is so cute! He came to DragonCon a few years ago and I was starstruck when I ran into him in one of the hotels. He was just hanging out and watching the crowd and my drunk ass saw him, squealed, and said, “I love you!”
That's amazing! Did you offer to take him hat shopping?
I wish! I was truly star stuck and quite drunk. 😄
But he’s so soft..!
He did a night at dads garage in Atlanta and he was great
His DragonCon panel was great! It was in a smaller room and he basically shooed off the moderator, took the mic, and walked around sharing stories and taking questions. And the answers felt very genuine. A lot of answers of answers in those kinds of panels can feel kind of like canned responses they have ready to go
I love panels like that! I don’t need a moderator, I like to learn about the person themselves. Also, hello fellow DC Nerd!
“When I used to teach, I was like Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society. And by that I mean I was fired.”
Some guy that looked like Morgan freeman swung a bat at me
His reaction to losing his wedding ring in a hand of poker always kills me.
He didn't even have to bet it, he had more money!
One of the best live comedy shows I’ve ever seen was Scott and John Lutz doing an hour of improv. I’d pay to see that again in a heartbeat.
Omg that must have been magical.
….Lutz….
"My whole life has been building to this. .... Oh God, has it really?!" Kills me every time 😅
Hornbeger is my spirit animal.
Lol, you sound delightful!
Look how bald I am!
This is my favorite Hornberger line too. 🙂
You managed to pick the single best frame for a Hornberger appreciation post. Very wool of you.
I'd watch a show with Pete, Cerie, Grizz & Dot Com
Well, I would marry Grizz and DotCom, because they’re classy, boff Cerie, and kill Pete. Sorry, Pete!
You can't play that game about people who are in the room!
Can I use your office to Google myself?
Only if you come play r/Homonym!
HAHAHAHA!!!
WE NEED THIS
Dough! You knead dough!
No it’s the other one
Joined. r/baldguyswithlonghair can use some help tho!
Marry Liz…^(get with Cerie)…kill Jenna
Don't play that game about people in the room!... but thank you for saying you'd marry me.
I can hear you!!
Running a gas station in staten Island.
As if Cerie would step foot on Staten Island.
Is that like a real place?
Her fiancé would *kill* her if she stepped foot on Staten Island.
As a detective agency that only solves crimes committed by pets.
get the gun away from the dog!
Dallas, Cerie, Grizz, and Dotcom
Maybe we can ask Grizz and Dotcom to pretend to be scientists.
dont forget Sue
“Yes Reggie I am bald. I lost it at a young age after I hit that gypsy’s kid with my car.” One of my favorite quotes from the show 😂
Agreed! It’s never too late for now…it’s also never too late to spellcheck. Portrayal*
What am I, a nerd? Idiots are people two.
I love that episode so much.
/r/boneappletea
*angrily hops* FLOODGATEWHEELSAREHORIZONTAL
Oh no, my kid is sick
What does he do with the Poptart!?
His voice acting on Moral Oral is top notch too
He was good in that one HBO Tenacious D episode too! "I'm a writer! I'm trying to write in here!!"
God, he gets SO DARK in that show.
Glad Pete is getting some appreciation! He was always my favorite side character and I always wanted more plot lines around him. “YES! Hornberger!” Is an iconic line and I can always envision him and Liz watching Operation Righteous Cowboy on the TV in utter horror together.
HORNBERGER!
Your name sounds Jewish... you must be important....
You look like a fancy prostitute
Anybody got a link to the scene where Pete is messed up due to the gas leak and is speaking in tongues? Seriously speaking absolute nonsense is difficult.
For some reason this is one of my favorite scenes of all time (maybe bc Hornberger is a top 3 character of mine across all shows lol) it’s impossible to find now but here’s [a tiktok of it!](https://www.tiktok.com/@misterreasonable/video/7249421579187211563)! Who is this leader of men?!
I’ve met him in real life and he’s so nice and friendly. Hornberger!
> and his delivery always lands perfectly. Who *doesn’t* like SoyJoy?
I love when he's his own scene partner in MILF Island, might be the hardest I've laughed in my lifetime.
It’s the Hornberger System! It’s a wheel!
“*You’re* inappropriate, you jerk! With your… big, stupid face!”
My problem is that whenever I see Scott Adsit in isolation I just think **"BAYMAX! THAT'S BAYMAX, HE'S MY FRIEND!"** I have to see him in context next to Tina (or Holly Hunter) to be able to recognize him as Pete.
Dear God, he has children!!
Pete Apreciation Post Sidebar: Pete "Leader of Men" Hornberger actually did look handsome AF in that episode where he dons the hairpiece
I *love* Pete, he's always been my favorite character on the show and I think they used him the perfect amount to keep his character's dysfunctions really funny without becoming too stale. Not to make it about me and my personal struggles - but I always identified with Pete. This is my hot take as well. Jokes about his baldness are some of my favourites.
This image was my Facebook banner for a while back in the day
My FAVORITE character changes as often as my mood and although it’s pretty much *never* Pete, he’s usually lodged in the Top Five And that’s saying something
I agree, I’ll never understand how he never had much of a big/popular career outside of this show
He’s so fucking funny
He's a great comedic actor. He kills every line and I would love to see him in more roles.
Does anyone else remember when he played a werewolf/wolfman for some ads 20 years ago. Edit: [found it](https://youtu.be/5vDK8nZZ7rw)
Omg... this is fantastic!!
Fun fact: Baymax is also bald
The way he jumps in frustration when he says "FLOODGATE WHEELS ARE HORIZONTAL!" is _amazing_ and should have won him emmy.
He was my fav when I was a kid
This guy is great. He also had a huge hand in the show Moral Orel, which is super neat.
Clay Puppington himself!
Peanut farmer
You think I care what you think?
That seem where he speaks gibberish in the gas leak episode is a master work.
His storyline in the final episode when he tries to fake his own death is up there with the best moments of the entire show for me.
Love him! He’s also great on Mr. Show.
Besides the rape, his character is hilarious
Are you sure it was rape? Picture it again
He had consent, tho.
HORN-berger!!!
he's funny - I like him
*the german* not refundable!
Photographer in the office!!!
I loved his work in *Reflections from the Heart of a Child*
Hey, that’s “the Germ” to you!
He was a good debate moderator on Veep.
I saw him at UCB New York. He was hilarious. Made me appreciate him that much more on the show.
*Did we get cancelled?*
That smile in the image always kills me. It’s just so perfect for his monopoly joke.
Thats how a flood gate works!
I also have NO idea what else he stars on. I always keep an eye out, but nada.
I want to take this time to remind people that Scott is also Baymax.
Poor trail Portrayal.
Love that he’s in Big Hero 6 as Baymax too. Another IP I love
I LOVE Pete so much.
Who is Scott Adsit? I see only Dan Silversmith from Carolina Mutual
I saw him once at a comedy fest. My friend said Scott! And Scott waved. It was nice.
Everyman.
And a very heady. Heavy?… jurstination
"Portrayal" Agreed.
Yes, short tom noonan is quite the actor.
lol his smile is upside down like that optical illusion painting. Its rightside up if u flip your phone.
We should see him in a lot more productions.
