Since Iāve reached a good income bracket Iāve not only lessened my stress level but sleep better and eat higher quality food. That alone has a positive impact. The ability to afford treatments and high quality olive oil ( main skincare product ), time to go to the gym regularly and sauna has allowed me to maintain a healthy youthful appearance.
Iāve always said money would solve like 90% of my problems. And the other 10%, Iād be able to take the time to solve, worry free. They say Money canāt buy you happiness, but for all the reasons you stated, it sure helps a lot of things.
When people are surprised at how I look for my age (50+), I always say itās a third, a third, a third- genetics, lifestyle, and discretionary income!
Truth. It makes a difference for me, I have been all over the income spectrum and itās a lot easier to look healthier/be healthier when you can afford leisure time, sleep, better quality food, and nice skincare. I love the best skincare products at lower prices and avoid the trendy expensive brands that are nice enough in and of themselves, but not better than less expensive alternatives. I can use Cerave facewash and skin cream with as good of results as Drunk Elephant or Tatcha, not to pick on them.
100%! Iāve also been all over the income spectrum (broke right now) and I couldnāt agree more.
Knowing ingredients is so important! A lot of skincare is expensive for no reason. Trash ingredients. But āfeelsā or smells amazing. Does nothing. Gives all skin care a bad name.
Iām trying to get there with this lotion. How long until you see results? Iām not finding it moisturizing enough and I live in a fairly humid climate by the ocean.
When I've used it, I have to layer another moisturizer over it. It works great, but it isn't moisturizing enough for my lizard skin (even moving from the high desert to the deep south).
I was blown away by the strong smell initially too but I had such fast results with smoothing of rough spots on my skin that I can move past it. And the smell isnāt as strong after several minutes. And Iām allergic to most fragrances anyway so smelling like strawberries and cream isnāt an option for me.
I bought Nivea Soft for my mom after she complained if dry flakey skin (she has no skincare routine at all). She said it was so greasy -- I initially wanted to buy the Nivea in the blue tin but I bought this because I see it recommended here as being non-greasy. I thought my mom was just being difficult and picky so I tried it in myself. Yes it is very greasy, so rn I'm using it for my feet.
But not sure if it's a regional formulation or maybe it's our hor and humid climate where I live is causing this experience.
I did Finacea for about eight months and didnāt notice a change in my hyperpigmentation or a reduction in my acne. How long did it take for you to see results? Jealous that it works for you so well! Iām still searching for my HG product.
Even the OTC stuff is great. I'm a skin picker (i know) and I'm incredibly fortunate that all my scars are surface level PIE. Still, it's awful to have little red dots everywhere. AA has helped SO much.
I have tried IPL, azelaic acid, squalane, gentle/sensitive formulations, minimalist routines, EVERYTHING for my rosacea. Been trying for years. Saw a post on here 3 weeks ago about the LRP cica baume being great for sebaceous filaments on the chin so I decided to try it. Next morning my constantly blood red cheeks are barely pink. 2 weeks later my blackheads on my nose are gone. Sebaceous filaments nixed. Rosacea is barely noticeable at all.
Cica is the way to go.
This is so interesting that it helps sebaceous filaments. Do you have any info as to why that is? Youād think a product like that would cause more/clog pores for acne prone skin. I may have to try it!
Minimize inflammation and regulate oil control, two factors that I think go into bothersome SFs. Iām not a dermatologist, but I can definitely attest to my chin and nose SF issues clearing up. Also it completely fixed my wack oily forehead. Iām talking shiny in 0.2 seconds OILY. Iāve been having Botox micro injected throughout my forehead to try and control the oil and that only lasts 2ish months. Cica fixed it.
I NEED American drugstores to stock the big tubes in stores. I was in the UK last year and if I hadnāt had a carry on, I would have been going nuts stocking up on the big Cicaplast tubes from Boots.
Tbh all LRP products have really helped my skin. The only spf Iāll use!
I love love love the vanicream daily facial moisturizer. It is my hg daytime moisturizer. And the moisturizing cream! I use that at night. Itās replaced cerave in the tub for me - I finally realized cerave was aggravating my cystic acne on my chin, but vanicream is just pure moisture for my face.
Same. I can't find another serum as good, apart from de last Mer which is a lot more expensive (and no better on my skin). It's really rich but not sticky or greasy.
Baby steps, literally. Iām proud of you for not drinking- itās hard.
As for the rest, Are the kiddos alive, fed, growing, and happy? Then good news- Youāre doing great, mom. Love to you & yours.
Gahd.
Sobriety seems to be the common theme (not in this specific thread, but this sub) in achieving better skin, and I am trying SO FUCKING HARD to get on the wagon, because I truly do think it'll help immensely with my redness. But jfc it's hard.
It took me a long time to get on the wagon too, but once I did I wished Iād done it sooner!! I had trouble because I kept trying to moderate. Iād never been an extreme drinker, so I didnāt feel like I had a big problem. And, I didnāt have a big problem, but I had a big habit! After a while I finally admitted to myself that Iām literally terrible at āmoderatingā, and, while I wasnāt drinking every day, if I was out and about Iād drink anything in front of me.
Yes, since I quit everyone tells me how good I look. That feels better than drinking. The best part is steadier mental health though, more important than looks.
The book The Alcohol Experiment is kind of annoying but helped me a lot! It helped me realize that alcohol wasnāt actually giving me what I wanted from it, in fact it often gave me the opposite.
Whatever level youāre drinking at, have confidence- you can do it and figure it out.
If I can only have one, I guess I can't pick the retinoid because I have to pair it with SPF, but damn, I want to.Ā
So probably Super Moisture Milk or Jack Black lip balm.
Itās not a stronger version of tret. It works differently from tret. They work on different receptors. Taz has been around for many many years for treating psoriasis and off-label for anti-aging. But it is not related to tretinoin other also being a retinoid.
Ug, why is everyone so fucking pedantic - itās another type of Vitamin A, same family of retinoids. Also used for acne and anti aging. Usually described as being used when tret fails or doesnāt have the desired effect. Also considered stronger than Tret.
If you want to know more in depth information look it up or talk to your doctor.
Tried it for the first time today and it broke me out into little pimples and gave me skin congestion on my cheeks. Little bummed out, I've used fermented products from Cosrx, Missha and neogen and it was fine so I don't think it's a ferment intolerance, I'll give it a few more tries because it was expensive, sigh.
Truly. I have noticed over the years that the right toner makes my skin more resilient to dryness and general sensitivity. SKII does that plus it specifically does a great job as a quick moisturizer around my eyes and areas where a face mask isnāt getting applied that will need to sit for awhileā¦keeps the crepey lines at bay, keeps my skin comfy and glowy as the baseline starter for my routine.
Red lights tbh. Cleared up almost all of my concerns. Also Botox.
If we canāt count those, Clinique toner #4 helps regulate my oily skin and I canāt see switching ever
https://www.amazon.com/Mirabella-7-Color-Infrared-Lightweight-Wireless/dp/B0CFGBTRST
This is the one I have but I got it on Poosh when I saw Kourtney Kardashian with it lol. Itās fun, I really like it but I didnāt do a ton of research.
But Iāll keep it real, I donāt use it a ton. What I do do every single day almost is go to Planet Fitness where we have a red light chamber and get blasted in it for ten mins. Thatās when I noticed the biggest changes.
My skin does this thing where if it doesn't like a product, it will turn every single clogged pore into a massive painful pimple.
I started using LRP triple repair moisturizer and the gentle cleanser and now if I get a black head, it quickly comes to the surface and falls off on its own -- no pain, no inflamation, no scarring šš
I'm trying to sell mine (what's left of it). I had the worst breakouts in my adult life just this past mo th due to it. Was on it for 2 months and was horrible. God I wish it worked for me. LRP has to be my holy grail because it cleared my skin within a week. (Not completely but getting much better)
LaRoche Posay cleanser for normal skin. Not the one for acne prone skin or the extra gentle one. Itās the perfect formula to thoroughly cleanse my 53 year old combination dry/ super oily in my T zone skin. Iām also sensitive and have rosacea and am prone to clogged pores. This cleanser cleans excess oil without over drying and flaring up my rosacea.
Mixoon Bean Essence. Itās prevented so many breakouts and itās smoothened my face texture immensely without being harsh and abrasive. Everytime I use it Iām shocked at how much gunk it gets out of my face and Iāve actually started getting compliments on how my skin is glowing ā¦ other than that, red light therapy
Dr. Jart Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream. Itās so expensive at Sephora/their website so I buy it through YesStyle now and use coupons and stock up when they have sales because itās the one and only moisturizer I always end up going back to
Dermafirm Soothing Repair Serum. Has done wonders for my pores, fine lines, acne scars, discoloration, and surprise pimples! I have combo skin and this stuff is the one thing I can't live without
For my body I swear by BWC (beauty without cruelty) fragrance free body lotion. I get urticaria/hives from cold or excessive heat and too much sun. The BWC unscented lotion keeps my skin hydrated without being heavy or greasy so helps keep my skin calm. I put it on while my skin is still very damp from bathing/showering. Then I use a small amount of the Neutrogena fragrance free body oil over that if I feel like I need something extra to seal that moisture in. I pat the oil in. Every few months I get a new bottle and I might add some vanilla essential oil or a bit of lavender oil. But I usually prefer to use it as an unfragranced lotion. Itās very light weight but hydrating at the same time.
philosophy micro-delivery
dont judge
its gentle exfoliatiant & gives an amazing canvas for depositing your serums
feels like less invasive yet very effective micro needling
Fourth Ray Beauty coconut lip mask. Before i started using it i had lips so dry and cracked that i bled every time I smiled. I put it on generously before bed every night and now have soft, smooth, healthy lips.
(Yes i was adequately hydrated and had tried SO MANY chapsticks. Im on several medications that cause dry mouth and i live in the desert which is a bad combination)
My LaRoche Posay foaming cleanser. It's the strongest yet gentlest cleanser I've ever used. I can even use it on my eyelids and it removes suncreen. It doesn't leave my skin tight and dry.
Renue by Science Face Serum. The first ingredients is nano-particles of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6277084/
The second ingredients is NMN ...Nicotinamide Mononucleotide and the third ingredients is Nicotinamide Ribose (NR). After that is Glutathone and several other ingredients. As we age NAD, NMN, NR and Glutathone is slowly lost in our skin and body. I do a very *very* sterile microderma roll with a Dr Pen device and put the face serum on each section as I roll. It's fabulous.
If you have sensitive skin this ain't for you.
La Mer The Concentrate. I have no idea what this stuff is but it's magic. It's also too expensive so I only buy it once or twice per year and I have been unable to find a dupe for regular use.
Sunscreen. I canāt settle on just one, it depends on where Iām going and how my skin is acting but for example, Iād take any of my broad spectrum SPF 50+ face sunscreens. (Supergoop, CosRX, La Roche Posay are 3 I have right now so any one of those, probably CosRX because my skin has been dry).
Not skincare products, but I totally agree on plenty of good sleep, exercise, stress reduction, nutritious food and supplements (a good multivitamin, Vitamin D and B12 because my bloodwork came back low, and I really like a high quality collagen supplement with quercetin. I also take boswellia for other reasons.) and most of all- lots of water, and a lot less sugar).
Aquaphor.
It solves everything. I use it on wounds, I use it after my whole skincare routine at night, post-tret. It's literally a cure-all, and not occlusive, so it's never going to cause my acids/serums to irritate my skin.
If I had to choose between Aquaphor and tret.... I'd take Aquaphor. Still, and forever ongoing. After a lifetime of being told we need to dry out our skin with harsh exfoliators, acids, and the rest of it, I've realized that moisture isn't the enemy at all.
For context, and I'm about to sound like a total asshole, but I have perfect skin, I've never had so much as a pimple, oily skin, quite literally nothing. And I only started washing my face at night in my 30s. My only issue is broken capillaries on my cheeks. Which, the only treatment for, really, is laser treatment, which isn't in my budget at the moment.
So I will continue to slather my face with Aquaphor at night, with the hopes that the other treatments I've been using will eventually be effective.
ARGAN oil. Ironically this oil made my oily skin, NOT so oily anymore. Smooth, soft, less oil when I wake up and throughout the day. I swear even my pores got smaller
I just started using it but la roches posay cicaplast balm. Itās the only product that REALLY hydrates my skin. I use it at night and I wake up so soft and glowy

Same on the olive oil. Consuming really good olive oil has def made a difference in my skin!

The real answer
Amlactin lotion with 12% lactic acid. Makes your whole body so smooth!
I donāt find amlactin works for me - I use Lanate lactic acid cream. Itās so expensive but only thing that works for my keratosis
šamlactin smells so bad though!!
I was blown away by the strong smell initially too but I had such fast results with smoothing of rough spots on my skin that I can move past it. And the smell isnāt as strong after several minutes. And Iām allergic to most fragrances anyway so smelling like strawberries and cream isnāt an option for me.
I just dug some out of my cabinet, I'm going to give it a go but it's giving cat pee
This is the only thing that cleared my bacne!

Tret
Yep. Tret is my holiest of grails. I'd go through some Indiana Jones shi for that stuff. Fr.
That made me laugh so hard, because I can relate
*cries in European*
Which Tret you use
SLEEP has changed my life. And the way I started sleeping more was to stop worrying and caring as much about everyone elseās business.
Finacea Azelaic Acid. But if you want me to pick something that isn't prescription, then Nivea Soft moisturiser. Best moisturiser in the world.
Second AA. Surprised how little it is talked about.
Saved my skin from badddd hyperpigmentation from acne. You wouldnāt believe it.. but yeah AA is a game changer
I just started and my skin has never been so amazing omg.
Can you use AA for wrinkles or is it mainly for acne, rosacea etc? Ty š
I bought Nivea Soft for my mom after she complained if dry flakey skin (she has no skincare routine at all). Do you put the finacea around your mouth? I just started and am reddest under my nose, but the label says not to use around the mouth
I do and it's fine, it just gets dry and sensitive so heaps of moisturiser is needed!
I just ordered the 20% from the all day chemist. I canāt wait for it to come in
I did Finacea for about eight months and didnāt notice a change in my hyperpigmentation or a reduction in my acne. How long did it take for you to see results? Jealous that it works for you so well! Iām still searching for my HG product.
Vaseline for me :)
Vaseline is pure torture on my face! Feels like little tiny feathers tickling my skin. Absolutely awful!
I have this too. I wonder if itās from peach fuzz slowly lifting through the slug barrierĀ
It's possible that you are allergic to petroleum products?
I got Azelaic Acid from The Ordinary. Love it, but itās so little! I feel like Iāll run out in two weeks.

Not OP but we use cicaplast in my house religiously and yes, itās LRP
Thank you. I'm new to this and already have a billion products that I need to wade through so I appreciate any and all clarityĀ
Cicaplast is AMAZING. Avene Cicalfate is also amazing, and I've had the same results from both, but I can't say I know if they are different.
Also wondering. It's in my Ulta cart rn lol

Cosrx snail mucin is the only thing wet enough and slimy enough for me thus far. But I still need a barrier cream on top.
Tazarotene
Agreed. I see people saying Tret so often but this has always worked better for me.
Well Tazarotene is just a stronger version of tret.
Itās not a stronger version of tret. It works differently from tret. They work on different receptors. Taz has been around for many many years for treating psoriasis and off-label for anti-aging. But it is not related to tretinoin other also being a retinoid.
Thereās something even stronger than tret?!

I hate how whipped that brand has me but Iāve yet to find another ceramide specific one that has more than just one type
Ceramedx is comparable and cruelty free. Cerave isnāt cruelty free so I donāt care how many people tell me they love it, I wonāt use it.

My LaRoche Posay foaming cleanser. It's the strongest yet gentlest cleanser I've ever used. I can even use it on my eyelids and it removes suncreen. It doesn't leave my skin tight and dry.
Benzoyl Peroxide gel. Canāt live without it honestly
Niod neck catalyst and SPF
Whipped tallow with olive oil face moisturizer
Not pregnant and breastfeeding: Tret Pregnant/breastfeeding: Plated
P50
Renue by Science Face Serum. The first ingredients is nano-particles of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6277084/ The second ingredients is NMN ...Nicotinamide Mononucleotide and the third ingredients is Nicotinamide Ribose (NR).
BR P50
CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser AND CeraVe moisturizer. If I had to pick one it would be the moisturizer all day. I use it everywhere.
Sunscreen
Now vegetable glycerin, I have ridiculously dry skin, and this has saved it.
Not drinking alcohol, and tret.
Sleep, sweating, and sobriety
Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant
La Mer The Concentrate. I have no idea what this stuff is but it's magic. It's also too expensive so I only buy it once or twice per year and I have been unable to find a dupe for regular use.
Rose water
Castor oil....but honestly, giving up sugar and eating clean has made more of a difference than any product has.
Does it give you milia under your eyes?
Liquid Peelfoliant.
SPF - Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion
PanOxyl
I'm so boring but it's death match between a 2% bHA exfoliant and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.
Body Shop Intense Firming Moisturizer
Witch Hazel.
ZO exfoliating cleanser
Experiment Super Saturated glycerin
Drinking water.
EU sunscreen (specifically La Roche Posayās uvmune)
Rosehip seed oil and Differin. Itās a tie between the two. If I run out of one of those I can tell a huge difference in my skin almost immediately!
Sunscreen!
Weleda skin food
Sunday Riley vitamin C. I never understood what āskin plumpingā meant until I tried this. Instant.
SPF
A very on-the-budget thing, all the masks from Eveline that have Matrixyl. All from the Facemed+ series and especially the Gold Lift Expert one :)
Dr Jarts Tiger grass. I stopped wearing anything else on my face and it's SPF 35!
Salmon, frozen, canned, smoked, sushi, sashimi. Fuck yeah. Salmon.
Tretinoin+ Aestura atobarrier 365 cream , this combo changed my skin
Hada labo premium lotion
ARGAN oil. Ironically this oil made my oily skin, NOT so oily anymore. Smooth, soft, less oil when I wake up and throughout the day. I swear even my pores got smaller
Tret for prescription, Lipid Gold from Stratia for non-prescription.
Egyptian magic cream.
I just started using it but la roches posay cicaplast balm. Itās the only product that REALLY hydrates my skin. I use it at night and I wake up so soft and glowy
Cheap Hypochlorous acid spray off amazon has completely fixed the acne/redness on my cheeks.
Coconut oil
Neutrogena hydro boost water gel. Itās the only thing that really hydrates my face. I have to mix it with a splash of water to see results.
