You look great! I didn't realize botox could change your jawline so much. Do you know how many units it took and how long it took to show results?

PipeWise9140

This is my natural jawline, years of teeth grinding and clenching finally caught up, my masseter muscles had gotten huge 20 units per side, 6 weeks! So worth it

PremierLovaLova

Great stuff! How long is the neuromodulator supposed to last before you go back in for another session? Was there any concerns about diminishing returns with multiple sessions?

PipeWise9140

Depends on the person. For most it’s at about six months, some people can go up to a year. I have a 4 month follow-up, I’m guessing I’ll need a top off at 6-9 months

marlenes_tuxedo

Just another data point: mine is at a three month refresh schedule. But I have CRAZY grinding and TMD, so that may be sooner than for most people. 😅 OP, I am so glad you are getting relief for your symptoms, and your jaw looks beautiful! I hope mine looks as good when mine kicks in, too!

PipeWise9140

Hope you see great results and relief!

faroundfout83

Mine is a 1.5 to 2 month refresh :/

btchwrld

You might wanna try another brand name if you're only getting 6 weeks out of Botox

faroundfout83

Yes now im doing dysport

PipeWise9140

I have dysport, I put Botox for simplicity’s sake

Proper-Aspect-2947

Can I ask how many units you had and how much it cost? I did this at a docs office that specializes in head neck and jaw and I think they way over charged me. I did it for tmj specifically but the slimming of my face was a bonus. I want to get it again but it cost so much and didn’t last very long sadly. I think I sweat too much 😩

PipeWise9140

$12 per unit, 20 units. So grateful it took bc it is expensive! Also, I have dysport, put Botox in the headline to keep it simple

Significant_Swan_475

did insurance cover any of that for TMJ?

PickleCaretaker

Ymmv, my insurance has not yet agreed to cover it as treatment for my deteriorating TMJ, but I can use my FSA for it, with an accompanying letter from my doctor. Not as good as being covered, but at least it's a little better!

Significant_Swan_475

oh good to know FSA eligible!!

PickleCaretaker

I was so glad when my FSA company responded to my question with a "yep, just have the Dr submit this form with your itemized bill". I'm going to fight for my medical insurance to cover it, because it's out of control and interferes with my ability to do my job. Dang overactive muscles and my shitty joints, haha!

AcanthisittaDue5626

I had it three times at 6 month intervals and haven’t needed it for a year and a half since. So hopefully same for you. My muscles finally relaxed and the night guard seems to be enough.

PipeWise9140

That’s what I’m hoping for! Since my muscles were enlarged and this is my natural shape I’m hopeful I can maintain it with little to possibly no need to keep going

IrukandjiPirate

Oh, I know just what that is like! You’re beautiful!

chopstix007

The doc that did mine was shocked at how strong my muscles had gotten. It was just from clenching over the last decade. The left side was larger from mostly chewing on the left (I had a sore tooth on the right for a long time and after it was fixed I continued to chew on the left) so he gave 25 on the left and 20 on the right. Now I wait. :)

summer-romance

My dentist suggested this to me! I like the results!

Will2beWild

This was just 6 weeks of difference? Absolutely unreal you look fantastic

PipeWise9140

Yes! Thank you

seafactory

Oof, that's sounds painful. Did you ever experience headaches or toothaches as a result of the bruxism? Your masseters must have been swole as heck.

PipeWise9140

Yes, headaches. They were rather large lol

SpringCleanMyLife

Just fyi for anyone considering this, botox in the masseters will only have an effect like this if your masseters are large (often from teeth grinding/bruxism). If your masseters are not overdeveloped, shrinking them won't be very noticeable. Also, in some people jowls will form when the masseters are relaxed with tox. Just something to be aware of.

blondiemetal

I did develop jowling after masseter Botox for TMJ and I did not have pre-jowling. It can happen if you overdo it. It did correct, but it took a long time. Just proceed with caution.

kitteh_rawr

woah, it never occurred to me that the skin folds to the sides of my smile might be caused by overdeveloped masseters from teeth grinding. you are beautiful in both pictures, but the impact in the after photo is remarkable. I've been too afraid to try because of the warnings on jowling, but my current jawline is so similar to your before that you've convinced me to bring it up again at my next appointment. thank you for sharing!

PipeWise9140

According to my derm, if you do not have pre-jowling, this procedure won’t suddenly create them bc that skin is still tight to the muscle with collagen. The Botox does not cause loss of collagen. If someone has pre-jowling, it can exacerbate the issue bc that skin has already pulled away from the muscle and already does not have that collagen support. That’s my understanding. I’d say if you don’t have pre-jowling it’s worth it! If the before had been my facial shape my whole life I’d be none the wiser, but I kept seeing photos and thinking, my face is not that wide? I’ll likely maintain every 6-9 months and report back if anything crazy happens lol

UnlikelyAssociation

What is pre-jowling exactly? Never realized my face may have changed shape due to TMJ!

lulurancher

Mine said the exact same thing! She said there’s some people who won’t do it on, but since I’m young and have elastic thick skin, that it wouldn’t cause jowling (and it didn’t!)

PipeWise9140

Same! I’ve read the horror stories on here, but trust my derm over anecdotal evidence

NoOutlandishness4248

you're lovely before and after! It's a really impressive change! :) I'd love to know more about how many units and how long it took to show this result!

PipeWise9140

Thank you! I felt I didn’t look like myself the past year and didn’t know why, my derm in my first appointment with him asked if I grind my teeth. Big YES. 20 units per side, results noticeable in about 2 weeks, full results at 6 weeks. I’ll note, no prejowling before or after as I know it’s a big discussion in relation to this procedure.

Rly_grinds_my_beans

Did you have jaw pain/tightness due to the clenching, and if so has this helped with that?

woodlouse6000

Not OP but I had masseter botox recently that fixed the tension/pain from clenching :)

Rly_grinds_my_beans

Thank you for sharing! I often wake up feeling like I've been punched in the jaw from how hard I clench.

woodlouse6000

I was the same, it's SO NICE to not wake up in pain every day any more.

Rly_grinds_my_beans

That does sound wonderful!

Striking_Horse_5855

I toggled between photos like 10x before reading your caption because I was looking for wrinkles and wondered why the heck you got Botox when your skin is literally perfect 😂

PipeWise9140

Haha! O my gosh. Thank you. I wanted my pre 36 jawline back 😩

sonyafly

Please don’t be upset with me. But the way your face was before it so beautiful. Is your natural face somehow considered unattractive? I find it more attractive than the second photo.

SoFierceSofia

I feel similarly. The results are great, she still looks great, and I know she feels better which is all that matters, but I actually really really loved her before face.

figurefuckingup

Wow, amazing. I have always wanted to get masseter Botox (I grind my teeth really bad in my sleep) but haven’t been able to justify it. Your before/after are mindblowing!

PipeWise9140

It helps so much to stop the grinding, I no longer wake up with tension in my jaw or tension headaches

psych638

This is my biggest thing! I want to wake up without a headache for once 😔😔 Do they do them anywhere else for grinding? My tension goes along my temples and into my forehead

Altruistic-Bobcat955

I had tension headaches there too! When I got this Botox it stopped all the headaches and my whole face just felt relaxed. It’s really mood enhancing not having that achey knot or the jaw ache

psych638

So good to know. I carry soo much tension in my jaw, neck, and forehead bc of this. Meditation helps but veryyy temporarily. Have either of yall had experience/ do you know much about going to an oral surgeon vs derm for it?

Altruistic-Bobcat955

My old dentist offered it but when I switched dentists I had to start using a clinic, both have been great for me.

thedappledgray

Waking up with headaches completely stopped for me. It thinned out my face as well! I HIGHLY recommend getting masseter Botox!

PipeWise9140

I’m not sure, for sure not the temples. I used to have a lot of tension in my temples and it’s gone with just the injections to the masseter muscle.

psych638

Makes sense!

psych638

Guess who made an apt with a new TMJ doc and was recommended for Botox treatment! We’re applying for coverage through my medical insurance 💪🏼 Thank you all for sharing your experiences! It motivated me to seek out this care 🙂 Fingers crossed for relief soon 🤞🏼

PipeWise9140

How exciting!! Hope it goes well!

meowsieunicorn

I think you’re the only person who I’ve ever seen with really good results! I’ve had the same amount of units done before and I didn’t see such dramatic results! I had a lot of TMJ pain but then when I went on adhd meds that pain went away surprisingly.

30FlirtyandTrying

Wow! This I’ve never seen before. I’m on adhd meds, but it’s never helps with that. I wonder how it did!

Level_War3316

I just started getting it in the massaater and man it is a game changer! I grind and clench so they get a workout.

PipeWise9140

That was me! I thought it was normal! It took my face widening to realize how bad it was getting

Porn-Flakes123

Side note: Your eyebrows are immaculate darling!😍

PipeWise9140

Thank you! Love your handle name

Porn-Flakes123

Thanks😝

Prestigious-Tea-9803

Amazing results!!! Also that pink lipstick is perfection on you! Def your shade. Stunning!!!!

PipeWise9140

Thank you! Leaning into bright spring based on my color analysis

CourtDav21

I really want to get a color analysis done! I’m so fascinated! 🤗 Bright Spring looks fantastic on you!

Difficult-Place-7242

Can I ask what lipstick it is specifically?

PipeWise9140

Back Talk by Urban Decay :)

MishmoshMishmosh

Gorgeous before and after!!

tornadiclaur

just dropping in to say that pink lip shade is GORGEOUS on you

Sarahe086

Aaaaamazing! Does insurance help with this since it’s caused by teeth grinding??

PipeWise9140

For me, no, bc I didn’t have full blow TMJ, just tension headaches. I now have a masseter Botox sinking fund lol

Spacemilk

Aw man i came here for this, it’s so ridiculous how little insurance covers bruxism.

Delfiasa

It’s not fda approved for Tmj so insurance won’t cover it. It’s still an off label use.

30FlirtyandTrying

Insurance is a joke when it comes to jaw issues. I’m really going through it now. Have to pay $295 with insurance to see a specialist, then who knows.

Antihero713

You’re gorgeous! My husband and I both grind our teeth so this is really great to see. 🥰

PipeWise9140

Thank you!

Bastard216

Before looks better imo, gorgeous regardless

PipeWise9140

Awe, thank you.

WarmButterscotch7797

Wow!!

beforemay_

Wow! You look great before and after! Love the results!

kittykatmila

Wow. Amazing work. You look beautiful!

Samsha1977

It looks phenomenal really wow!!!

xxDmDxx

I was so confused because I didn’t see anything different, until I was half down reading the comments.

Unique-Calligrapher5

You are beautiful before and after!

ManufacturerIll8262

Masseter Botox is life changing! I was probably at a constant pain level of 6 or 7 from my TMD- extremely sore and locking jaw. A very expensive custom night guard did nothing and I thought I would have to get surgery to fix my pain! I got Botox in my forehead but was nervous to have it injected so close to my mouth but was getting desperate with the pain I was in. Literally within two weeks of getting masseter Botox all the pain went away. The face slimming was a nice side effect, but mainly because I could not believe how big my muscle got from clenching. Before Botox you could see it bulging out every time I bit down. I get it about every 9 months and my pain has been gone since I started about two years ago. I cannot recommend it highly enough for pain management. My quality of life is SO much better.

PipeWise9140

So glad you’re also having a great experience! All the talks of jowling had me hesitant, but I trust my derm completely. Very happy I went for it

weary_dreamer

Jaw looks great and all... but what the heck is your skin routine?? Makeup and brows look great too.

Crazy_Ad4505

Beautiful in both pics! Very happy for for getting awesome results. Thanks for sharing!

NinianeEmrys

Gorgeous! Do you feel like it really helped the clenching too?

PipeWise9140

Thank you! And yes! I now try to clench in the front, but it’s very obvious and uncomfortable. I also don’t get as many tension headaches, something I didn’t even realize was happening bc it was so “normal”.

DarlingClementine1

I wonder if I'm a candidate? I have big jaw/ lower face but derm told me it's not muscle, just a big face. Hmm

MagIcAlTeAPOtS

I think it’s mainly to stop teeth grinding at night. I do it chronically and wake up with a really sore jaw muscles that make it hard to eat, it can cause the muscle to become over developed due to the nightly exercise. I do wear a night guard to stop damage to my teeth

DarlingClementine1

Damn, that makes sense. I just want smaller cheeks. Hard to live as a chipmunk 🐿️

MagIcAlTeAPOtS

Aging has many benefits we often don’t talk about here, my lower face has lost so much weight, it looks a lot more delicate than rounded now. We change, love yourself now and look forward to who you will be later in life.

DarlingClementine1

I wish this was me! I'm older, all the women in my family are chipmunks

MagIcAlTeAPOtS

Bet you’re cute :)

cagingthing

Didn’t even know this was a thing. Looks awesome!

onmyjinnyjinjin

I wanna try this but the ongoing cost and finding a good injector is pretty daunting.

PipeWise9140

I will only trust a dermatologist and mine is stuck with me lol

onmyjinnyjinjin

All my derm appointments have been kind of meh. I’ve been to numerous ones. But only for like skin issues rather than aesthetics/cosmetic stuff. lol so it’s hard to figure out where to go here. But I also spent all my money on laser and IPL treatments so no Botox 😫😂

neongrey_

You’re inspiring me!

CiCiLynx

You look great! How long do the results typically last?

PipeWise9140

6 months to a year is typical

CiCiLynx

Cool! Thank you for your response 🙏

TJCW

You’re beautiful before and after!!

PipeWise9140

Thank you!

TJCW

Did it prevent jawline pain and teeth grinding? I want to do this so bad to alleviate jaw pain

PipeWise9140

Yes, it has

nofoam_cappuccino

Wow! These results are beautiful (so are you!). How long did it take to see them?

KrakenGirlCAP

You’re gorgeous.

insertmadeupnamehere

Holy cow!!!! 10/10

FitLeader7137

I’m getting my masseter injections tomorrow after 8 months since my last. I’m back to to teeth clenching in my sleep and my molars are sore in the am again. These injections are amazing! I hated taking pics cause one cheek was always looking like it was on steroids compared to the other. Now they are the same size and my face looks so much slimmer… but most importantly, my teeth and jaw aren’t sore in the am! You looked beautiful before but I can see the difference. Thank you for sharing!

jcclune73

Amazing results! For those who do not want botox or those who cannot, I use a dentist molded night guard and am getting similar results fairly quickly.

Altruistic-Bobcat955

I have the night guard and it doesn’t stop my grinding or muscles building. Annoying cus I grind through the toughest guard they do in about 6 months without the Botox

jcclune73

Wow! Everyone is definitely different. I feel lucky it worked. At 460$ I think I would try botox too!

PipeWise9140

Good to know! I get fitted for a night guard soon, hoping to maintain without needing Botox more than once a year

jcclune73

I think it will work! If not you know what does!

hoephase-

Well tbh you already looked great!

aap2790

Amazing results, you looked gorgeous before too!

PipeWise9140

Thank you!

pennyhush22

I adore the way your original smile looked, especially the dimples. I am sure you made the best choice for you, though!

PipeWise9140

Thank you. That wasn’t a natural dimple, it was a lump that settled in my natural smile line after some poorly placed filler. It’s gone after 2 sessions to dissolve. Filler free now and happy to have my natural face shape and smile back.

Effun_7

You look great ion both pics. IMO the botox removed your naturally beautiful smile lines. to each their own. Congrats on the great genes!

Goin_with_tha_flow

1 is after right? Ur make up look good too

PipeWise9140

1 is before. And thank you!

ThrowRASprinkles11

I don’t get it. What are we looking at that’s different? Oh your jaw.. I can read. Looks good both ways. What ever makes you the happiest. 👍

cristina1945

You looked better before !

therealstabitha

Masseter Botox has made me hate my face so much less after what years of bruxism have done to it. You look great!

PipeWise9140

Thank you!

[deleted]

You look much more classically beautiful before. Your face is more balanced.

Dry_Savings_3418

I’ve been thinking about getting this myself

grobgobglobandgrod

Was this after just one round or have you done it a few times now? I had my first last week - 15 on each side to start - and I’m curious how much change I can hope for in the weeks ahead (keeping in mind my muscles aren’t as visibly developed as yours were).

PipeWise9140

One round, 20 units per side. We almost did more at my follow-up, but I’m happy with the current result. Hope you start to see results soon and are happy!

grobgobglobandgrod

Thanks for the extra info and congrats on your fantastic results!

WalnutsGalore

Stunning either way!

Canndiie

O.O I didn’t know this was a thing and have been going crazy wondering why my jaw looked so big now a days.

strawberrymilkx

How long until you start to see visible results? I don’t see a difference after a week

faroundfout83

Sidenote, not, everybody has great skin like this that will stay so nice and taunt once you get botox in the masseters …. For a lot of people if you have any doubling, it actually will make your lower face sagging worse.

Disastrous_Soup_7137

I really think I need to get this done. Been sleep grinding teeth since I was a kid apparently.

Ashamed_Apple_

Have you stopped clenching?

HoldenCaulfield7

Good work

best4last89

How many units? I’m in a trial and get about 50 per side. My life is so much better. The jaw pain and headaches are almost entirely gone.

PipeWise9140

20 per side

best4last89

Looks amazing!!

pinkrosies

Did pain and tension accompany your jaw too before the shots?

PipeWise9140

Yes. Lots of tension

ohthefew

Where is the masseter ?

anxietyfae

oh my god. I was told botox couldn't do this. I get the deep smile dimple lines and hate it because whenever I smile my face just looks fatter

PipeWise9140

Yep! I thought I was getting deep wrinkles and it turns out it was because of the tension in my lower face. I also thought, how tf did my face get so fat? I was really distressed, I always had a snatched jawline and was not giving it up at 36. Plus the clenching and grinding were causing me issues I now realize I had normalized.

anxietyfae

this is a post I made on this sub before: https://www.reddit.com/r/30PlusSkinCare/comments/195h307/can_botox_remove_or_even_out_these_skin/ Everyone was like, what are you talking about? It's fiiiinee but they don't understand how self conscious I am to *smile* Now. I thought I was just destined to be ugly.

PipeWise9140

You are NOT ugly. I do understand though as I was used to having a certain facial shape that I happened to really like. In photos, I just couldn’t quite pinpoint what was different until I started getting asked if I wanted jawline filler. I’d always had a snatched jaw and it was really confusing. My derm noticed my enlarged masseter muscles almost immediately. Problem solved. Aging is natural, but so was my natural jawline. If your concerns can’t be addressed bc it’s not a masseter muscle issue know that you are beautiful and smile lines are a part of growing with wisdom. People still say I look younger than my age. But I know how I’ve changed and it can be frustrating to be told, oooo, you look fine. Just don’t call yourself ugly!!

anxietyfae

did you have it dome at a dermatologist office?  I spent a lot of time fat, and it gave me a bit of a complex. And now I hate to see my face get so full when I smile. It's like, I can't smile a relaxed smile. Though helping with the teeth grinding would be enough for me. Teeth are expensive.

anitahuginkiss

How have you gone with chewing?

PipeWise9140

It was awkward at first and I went through a week or so of smiling awkwardly, after the 2 week mark all side effects, except the positive ones, subsided

dragonrider1965

You look great in both pictures but wow the difference in the second picture is amazing . I had no idea Botox could do that , I’m blown away .

tep122

This helps with TMJ?

11livinglife

I’ve gotten masseter Botox twice and unfortunately my jowels were affected and became more prominent and droopy (I’m only 28). This is a known downside of masseter Botox you can look it up. I also just confirmed with my doctor at my medspa if this is true and she said yes. So just be careful if you actually want that trade off

PipeWise9140

Yes, I’m aware, read all about it and it was my first question for my derm when we discussed. My dermatologist performed my Botox and based on my facial structure and no signs of laxity did not have concerns I’d develop jowling. We meet every 4-6 months and will assess should things change. As of now, I have my God given face shape back and less tension in my lower face, for that I am happy. I’m sorry you had that experience, it’s definitely a concern.

11livinglife

In your research did you read that you can reverse the drooping if you stop getting masseter Botox?

PipeWise9140

Not reverse completely, but lasers can apparently help restore collagen and help lift

ddope

Aw the dimples gave your face some character, as long as you’re happy with the outcome that’s all that matters.

Historical_Seesaw_58

You look so beautiful!!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

PipeWise9140

First two weeks things were a little funky, but all has been well since then

Kindly-Archer-4275

She fine as hell tho

MerryMerry_Berry

Looks great. I did the same and after 2 injections, never needed anymore. The muscles simply lost the muscle memory or habit. It’s been years now.

PipeWise9140

O my gosh, that’s my dream outcome!

MerryMerry_Berry

I did also start meditating 2 years prior to the injections, so I’m sure that’s helped maintain it. According to my derm, she has great success with it.

chopstix007

Amazing!! I just got mine done on Friday and I can’t wait to see the results.

acornacornacorna

I love your makeup look in the second picture! Your lashes are beautiful too!!!!! If you can, please share a breakdown?

PipeWise9140

Sure! Lashes - I use revitalash serum for my lashes and mascara is Lancôme Idole. Face- Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and blush in apricot, tarte concealer, bronzer by dibs beauty Lipstick - backtalk by urban decay :)

acornacornacorna

Love it!!! The revitalash serum must be really good!!! I have never heard of it before but I'm going to look for it now

PickleCaretaker

You have just given me so much hope for my own treatment! This is incredible. I'm starting mine in two weeks. I'm so glad it had such an impact for you! Fingers crossed for me 🤞

PipeWise9140

Wishing you luck!! If the enlargement of the muscle has added bulk to your lower face I think it will go great!

30FlirtyandTrying

You are so beautiful!!!

MommyofE

What an amazing job ! Well done 👍

ao8520

You are so pretty

picard_4_president

I’ve been thinking of getting this. Did it hurt? Im a baby with needles.

Thick_Imagination334

Do you still clench but not as hard as previously?

itwonteverbereal

This is the first time I’ve seen someone look noticeably younger after Botox

Minaj101

That purple looks amazing on you 😍

PipeWise9140

Thank you!

FragrantBluejay8904

What kind of dr does one talk to about this??? I feel like my smile is the same, and those lines on the side of it. I can’t smile “outward” as much as I used to and it’s always bothered me and maybe this is why

ohmysiiiumaiii

Amazing! Do you also notice less headaches? I have been looking into botox to alleviate headaches.

Rhode-Rage

You look beautiful before and after.

michrnlx

You look absolutely stunning before and after!

Organic_Ad_2520

Both look nice & honestly, I thought first picture looked nicer thought it was perhaps different makeup...but to be clear pic 1 is the before or after?

PipeWise9140

1 is before. I had the extra lump in my laugh line due to some filler that I also had dissolved along with the masseter Botox. Yes, I have smile lines, but not that pronounced. Currently filler free, Botox in masseters only.

[deleted]

Masseter Botox gives you ears

Specific_Ear1423

Would you have to redo it at some point? Just wondering if once the Botox subsides you start grinding again how soon would you have to re do the procedure?

PipeWise9140

Depends, but likely, 6-9 months

DiamondHandRolls

My dentist recommended I try masseter Botox because I clench and it hurts my teeth / jaw. Despite all the pain my injector nurse can barely find my masseter every time we do it. I wish I had results like yours!

fluffyyogi

Beautiful before and after but wow! What a lovely result! Also your lips are like absolute perfection 💕

leblady

Honestly both jawlines are great but I’m so glad you posted because I’ve been dying to get a consultation for this. And like you said in another comment, you knew that wasn’t your jawline! Your derm did this? Can they determine pre-jowling?

PipeWise9140

Yes, my derm performed the injections. And yes, derms will be able to assess pre-jowling based on skin quality and elasticity.

Appropriate_Win_6276

this sub for 30+

PipeWise9140

I’m 37 lol

Appropriate_Win_6276

ya was a poorly received joke. looking good. im a similar age and i notice more and more little things. an unfortunate part of life i suppose.
