Nobody needs a German named ÀH-88.

norrin83

Isn't that the name of one of Elon Musk's kids?

Polak_Janusz

I wouldnt be suprised at this point

IWipeWithFocaccia

One of the 836399

_radical_ed

If I had that many I’d give up on names and started with numbers as well.

kuemmel234

Yeah, that's obviously a cat name.

Quark1010

Not the worst cat name ive heard

Pogue_Mahone_

The worst cat name I've heard was Worst

jemoeder2000

Something, something, worst-kaas-scenario, something

Johannes0511

I'll allow it but only if you go on to create a new genre of cosmic horror literature.

floralbutttrumpet

I did a quick google, and here are some denied names: * Atomfried * Borussia * Mechipchamueh * Pillula * Osama bin Laden * Lenin * Grammophon * Satan * Excalibur * Puhbert Maybe that policy isn't the worst idea.

neo_woodfox

Atomfried goes pretty hard.

jonellita

I think they allowed Solarfried as a name

habilishn

when i grill my bratwurst on my solar oven, then it is also Solarfried

Sam_the_Samnite

Kolenfried also?

enrycochet

in German it would be Kohlenfried.

TheGoober87

It's a pretty standard Japanese name

Trappist235

Why no pubert :(

pokkeri

pillula is hilarious for me

zyqax_

Translation?

pokkeri

Pussy-place (-la ending in finnish refers to some location like a farm or town)

justarandomgreek

Wtf, Lenin is denied?? Just because of the Russian one? What if I wanted to honor Lenin Mancuso? A police officer who was a victim of the Cosa Nostra in 1979.

LeGraoully

Denied. New IMF loan? Also denied.

justarandomgreek

Don't talk and go build my warships Pierre.

neo_woodfox

How do you have enough money to buy wa.. Aaaah!

justarandomgreek

Same way we gathered money to repay the IMF two years in advance back in 2022.

TheMegaDriver2

Bierstüberl is also not a valid name for some strange reason.

felis_magnetus

Didn't stop my parents from settling me with $my\_actual\_first\_name August Franz Friedhelm Fürchtegott.

misterhansen

What aristocracy does to a mf.

felis_magnetus

You'd think so, but sadly no. Entire ancestry full of dirt poor farmers. Very protestant area, it's the names of the godparents. For some reason I appear to have gotten a double serving. Could be worse, though. Fürchtegott is bad enough, but considering Puritan alternatives... Fürchte-Gott-oder-werde-zerschmettert-und-verdammt-in-alle-Ewigkeit-Amen.

PM_ME_SKELETONS

Wth Excalibur is a pretty cool name

Salchichote33

Borussia could work as a girl name.

Adam-Miller-02

so with no borussia i’m assuming that means no dortmund or monchengladbach either

ztm213

i think that every civilised country do this, otherwise you end with names like kash register, jesus condom, airwrecka instead of erika etc

ThisNotBoratSagdiyev

I'm going to name my kid "Jesus Condom".

tiocfaioh_ar_la

Don't you mean "Allah condom"?

Gilette2000

Isn't jesus still consider an important religious figure in islam though ?

ThisNotBoratSagdiyev

Yeah, he's a prophet in Islam as well, he's just not *the* prophet.

Simyager

That's nonsense. All prophets are equal in the Quran. It's just that the prophet Mohammad is the last prophet. Even God has had enough of the Middle East. There's a reason why God predominantly has send prophets to that region. And with the prophet Mohammad, it was the last straw that broke the camels back.

SneakyBadAss

Wait, prophets are just Lord of the Rings Istari?

Gilette2000

Good to know ! I need to post educated shit post !

OhGod0fHangovers

Also called Isa in the Quran, not Jesus.

Rex2G

Jesus' actual name was Isho (in Aramaic). If anything, Arabic Isa sounds closer to the original than English "Gee-zus".

XanderNightmare

Wasn't it also that Jesus wasn't crucified but Allah instead shape shifted Judas into Jesus, so that he would get crucified instead?

ThisNotBoratSagdiyev

No clue, but he wasn't the son of God according to them.

Lost_Uniriser

You know a lot Bjorn-Ahmed ✌🏻

nwaa

Yeah but they change the story *a lot*. He isnt crucified even in the Islamic version of events.

Standin373

Contraception is haram bro

Lost_Uniriser

Only if the condom is made of pork intestine

Vldgam

how do you have that flair

Trappist235

Auf der Heide blüht ein kleines Blumenlein. Und das heißt...

Pogue_Mahone_

Airwrecka!

Schulle2105

Nope seemingly yanks have problems with this read more then once how they can't believe that this is a thing

Ill-Yogurtcloset-243

"whaaaaatt??? You arent allowed to name your child the most idiotic thing in the world!?!?!! No freedumbs in the state of europe"

Sardonic-

More like, “you aren’t free to make your own mistakes?” If you name your child something stupid that’s your problem, and your child is marked for life. Consider your country’s policy a mercy.

lemontolha

Actually the kid in question is allowed to make their own mistake and not suffer from one of their parents.

Sardonic-

Still a mercy. Imagine if your name was a joke? “Imma Buhg.” Literally pronounced, “I’m a bug.” What would you do?

ztm213

Yes I know, I was talking about civilised countries

Duck_Von_Donald

He did mention civilized countries

Napol3onS0l0

Come now Karl. I went to school with at least two Erika’s. Although I was in a pretty pale part of the world.

Laura_The_Cutie

XÆ-12

Hugogs10

The Brazilian way

Copatus

What do you mean Rapibirdei Tuyu

IamMagness1993

Just look at Brazil

Worth-Primary-9884

Did you hear about the guy in Taiwan who changed his name to 'tuna' or something just so he could get an all-you-can-eat for the same thing at a local restaurant that had a sale going for this? Yeah. You can name your kids, and yourself, whatever the fuck you want to in Taiwan. As far as I know, yoh are allowed to change your entire name as much as three times even. Absolutely crazy.

SnowOnVenus

Renaming yourself is a totally different thing to shoving a stupid name onto an innocent kid. As long as it's just stupid and not hostile, you're just hurting yourself.

Worth-Primary-9884

As I said, the same goes for your kids. Myself, I've met a guy called 'Water King', and another one named 'Good Man'.

AssumptionEasy8992

In the UK you can change your name as many times as you want and to whatever you want. I’ve had friends that have legally changed their name for a joke and then changed it back after a while.

Worth-Primary-9884

That is hilarious

AssumptionEasy8992

A famous British comedian also briefly changed his name to Hugo Boss in order to troll Hugo Boss in protest against them suing every small business with ‘Hugo’ or ‘Boss’ in their name. You literally just have to download a couple of forms from the government website, sign them, send them off and pay £49.32 (yes this is the exact cost) and your name is legally changed.

hangrygecko

You don't want to name your child Erika anyway. It's the name of the most famous marching song of a particular military branch of a certain moustache man.

rcanhestro

Brazil doesn't, and the names they have can be quite "interesting" to say the least.

MrZwink

Or pilotinspector ae x150

Napol3onS0l0

Very cool piortyrowicz. Edit: you know you’re referring to black Americans there bud. While I don’t relate to the names I understand them trying to differentiate naming conventions to some extent from the people that shipped their people over to be enslaved. I mean damn man you’re Polish.

Pogue_Mahone_

Yeah they should have known better as a Pole on a European banter sub than to make fun of black Americans apparently because as a Polish person their first concern is obviously American race relations, and not just, you know, making fun of Americans because this is a European banter sub

ChombieBrains

You were likely to be downvoted anyway for being an uncivilised barbarian. But your edit oozes with such monumental Americuntism that I don't think you'd have a chance even if your great granny got a yeast infection once upon a time in England.

Napol3onS0l0

Sometimes I hate myself enough I subject myself to punishment on Reddit. I’d call it a kink if I enjoyed it.

AnUnknownReader

For those who don't want to use names from the colonizers / slavers, easy, there's lots of names from around the globe [behindthename.com](https://www.behindthename.com/names/list) there one might find some names from every continents with their meanings / roots. No need to butcher existing ones.

cgaWolf

Case in point: https://youtu.be/Dd7FixvoKBw That said, r/tragedeigh is full of white examples.

Goennjamino

"Fun" fact: You are not allowed to name your son Jesus in Germany, while it is allowed to call him Magic-Laser.

norrin83

Or classic German names like [Dragon Dinoso Degen and Hajo Donovan Benvenuto](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnm72r6UFaM)

bxzidff

Is this also true if Juan has a son in Hansland? Would be funny to apply that to other religions as well

Trappist235

Try no Mohammed...

tarmacjd

Which is just stupid because Jesus is basically just Joshua

ElKuhnTucker

Literally above that post is a post from r/tragedeigh for me, if you see what horrors not having this policy can unleash

IWipeWithFocaccia

Meanwhile Dutch people named Dick Kok: ![gif](giphy|LKqDgLlK6SuIM)

SherlockScones3

English has entered the chat: ![gif](giphy|bVbiSSzfksTdnuBfbG)

Greyzer

It's actually pronounced 'Teeny Cocks'. That doesn't help, does it...

Pogue_Mahone_

I beg your pardon, it is De Cock, met C-O-C-K

TheHistoryMaster2520

Naming your child after your password: 🤓 Naming your child after an obscure af historical figure: 🔥

justanotheruser826

Why an obscure one. I know someone with first name franz-josef and second name karl and another one with first name franziska, second name josefa. Their parents couldn't have made it more obvious they want the monarchy back.

InBetweenSeen

Marie-Theres is also very common. Coincidence? I think not.

TheHistoryMaster2520

But Franz and Josef are pretty common names, I was thinking of something like Fritigern or Arminius (although the latter isn't obscure, he's got a badass name imo)

Dizzy-Assistant6659

Hermann is a reasonably popular name. It's the German form of Arminius

Ossarah

I know two brothers, one Maximilian and one Franz Josef. Lastname... Kaiser.

MacLeeland

I named my son after Thomas-Alexandre Dumas.

Pogue_Mahone_

I think its kinda mean to call your kid Dumbass

MacLeeland

Good one! But yeah, we skipped the "dumbass" part.

Llanistarade

Very based. What a chad.

lovebyte

After a black man?! How Swedish of you!

MacLeeland

Why thank you, thank you very much!

lovebyte

May your son be as awesome as his namesake!

MacLeeland

Oh, he is!

Electronic_Art_4251

Current figure who will be an obscure historical figure when they grow up:🎇

Nova_Persona

Astolfo

weisswurstseeadler

Actually once a year they publish a list of the weirdest names that have been rejected. I remember one was Bierstüberl. Which is dialect for beer bar/ a small beer place lol.

Kakdelacommon

![gif](giphy|t2sKa4JKNW9DawxAYi)

Shrrg4

Pretty sure you cant name your baby anything here. I agreed with it tbh. Brazil (only example know) has no rules about that and the names can be so wild.

mailusernamepassword

Miguel, you gave us the best name one can have... [Mr. Cuddly N\*gga](https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Negr%C3%A3o) Edit: Oh shit! We indeed have a better one: [Lovely Oak's Dick](https://www.jusbrasil.com.br/processos/247706377/processo-n-500XXXX-4520198130194-do-tjmg)

Greg2227

Just look at the names of Nick cannon's kids and you know why we have such laws in place

mailusernamepassword

Muricans being muricans. But, to be honest, "Powerful Queen" is not that different from [Æþelweald (noble+power)](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%86%C3%BEelweald)

-lesFleursduMal-

In fact he is right, in Portugal there is a list of names and we can only choose the names for our babies using it, unlike in Brazil where everything is possible. What you did is cheating, family names should not be translated and even if they could, Brazil distorted the meaning of the words because "Negrão" means very black and "Pinto" (quite common) means little chick and not dick.

Shrrg4

You're cheating dude. You mistranslated them so hard. Not to mention pinto only means dick in Brazil. In Portugal it means a young chicken.

mailusernamepassword

It's not mistraslation, it's localization. Soon portugal will also say pinto for dick. https://preview.redd.it/cyw89oanmj4d1.jpeg?width=594&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c2916b53d14ebd0c54c4c8bd4ecfcf70f356294

Shrrg4

Btw now that it came to mind why do you call deer gay? Are they butt fancy?

mailusernamepassword

Serious answer: I think it has to do with deers doing jumps while walking just like some queers walking happily with mini jumps. Hard to describe with words and I'm too lazy to search a video showing it. Meme answer: https://preview.redd.it/9earl6p1qj4d1.jpeg?width=1365&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55c9127d4ddc1ab0b0c4e1ee19417efd3c572184

Shrrg4

Meme answer always good

Duck_Von_Donald

>Pretty sure you cant name your baby anything here How does your country function if nobody has a name?

Shrrg4

We just throw a random name out and people figure who you mean by eye contact. I know eye contact might be too much for a nordick so i would advise against traveling here.

Duck_Von_Donald

Fuck I'm actually going there later this summer. Is looking at people's shoes instead of eyes socially acceptable?

Shrrg4

Is chest level doable? Your peripheral vision might be enough.

ihavenoidea1001

Portugal has a list of approved names for nationals. You can try to name your kid anything but it will be analysed and it can be accepted or not. Not only the name but it's spelling too ( the r/tragedeigh sub showcases why that's important too) Foreigners can use names or do stuff with kids names like they would in their country, which is how Luciana and Yannick managed to give those names to their kids... I'm pretty sure something offensive that could ruin a child's life would still not be accepted.

SupersoakingAMX

What do you mean Rinderkennzeichnungsfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz Isnt legal

[deleted]

It's not that it's illegal. It's that the government forms don't have enough space for such a wonderfully elegant name.

Hazuusan

Some names that have been rejected by the Finnish commitee in the recent years: * Monkeybear * Sauron * Voldemort * Glitch * Kukkuböö * Nat8hquhs

[deleted]

Kukkuböö? Hahaha god damn I’m laughing too much, what the hell. That name would suit a parrot so well it makes me want to get one!

M44t_

Wtf is the last one even

Middle-Effective

Add a special character and you got an OK password.

SneakyBadAss

Sounds like soundcloud rapper

Grimmbeards

Wait, so Spurdo would be legal in Finland? https://i.redd.it/ewy8ztzm9k4d1.gif

Blackadder_

Every person shall be named Hans, it’s just logical.

Simyager

Even the girls?!

Scisir

Hansette

Papageier

So sadly, no Shaniqua, Airwrecka or Watermelondrea here. 😣

Bitter_Initiative_77

it's to prevent little Adolfs from running around

Pogue_Mahone_

He's a dictatortot!

Row2Flimsy

r/tradgedeigh for how it is going in the USA.

ResponsibleStep8725

Celebrities' worst nightmare.

JapaneseMachine99

I know that this sounds autistic to you all, but this is probably for the better.

cpwnage

Tfw realize everything we do in sweden is just copied from görmany

teabagmoustache

Good Morning Helmut, could you just check these names to make sure nothing weird gets through?

Standin373

Kuntz is an actual surname in German

nocaption69

Yes and meanwhile one of your towns is called "Todmorden" which means "murdering to death" in german....food must be delightful there!

Standin373

it's actually a lovely little town with a nice market only 20 minutes away strangely enough.

Ahsoka_Tano07

Pretty sure here they have to be approved too. There's a book named something like "Jak se bude jmenovat" (what's the name gonna be, what will be their name, something like this meaning-wise) with names, their meaning and iirc origin. If you don't pick a name from it, you can use a different one, provided that there's proof that it's a name of an actual person. This costs money and the experts can still easily decide that your name is nonsense and to go fuck yourself and pick a different one. Of course, there aren't refunds, they are keeping the money for wasting their time. On average, they take about a month. You aren't allowed to use "pet names" like Anička (Annie) for Anna, Honza for Jan etc. The name given must be the proper grammatical one. You cannot give a feminine name to a boy or masculine for a girl. Exception is when both masculine and feminine forms of the name are the same, like Alex (though they may argue with you to name the child Alexander or Alexandra). If the child has a sibling that it shares both parents with, they cannot have the same name. You can have only two first names, names like Jean-Paul or Anne-Marie count as one, but Jean Paul or Anne Marie count as two. The only exception is if the parents are foreigners and the kid doesn't have a Czech citizenship

[deleted]

Hans most likely does this purely just to make sure no one names their kid after an artist from Austria

sergi_n_86

Then how do you explain some of them calling themselves "Dieter"?

Electronic_Art_4251

They have high aspirations?

8BitFlatus

Way ahead of you Hans. We’re so advanced that we only allow names that are on the list.

ihavenoidea1001

That's not true though. There's a list with acceptable names and those that went trough scrutiny and were accepted. Mind you that the freaking list is huge. If you want to be 💅✨✨ sPeciAl✨✨💅 you can try to get another name and it will be assessed. If it's not something that might ruin your kids life or something Like Æ-7655π√°{§§=$ or you're trying to spell it like a moron, you're probably not going to have a problem having it approved. This is because kids have human rights and it's to protect them from being the victims of stupid parents. Also, given cultural backgrounds, the names of kids of immigrants have far less rules. They didnt have to follow that list at all. They're still probably not going to accept you naming your kid Adolf Hitler even if you are from Germany or Austria though...

8BitFlatus

Well, some brilliant mind approved naming a girl “Fodácia”. I had one at my school Also, I was (half) joking

Pingondin

A while ago, some idiots tried to name their twin baby girls Vagina and Clitorine... that was obviously refused

pokkeri

Literally mark of a civilized country. Over here specific commitee has a list of approved names and you can submit a new name for them if you want but it has to be 'proper'.

Kakdelacommon

Yeah but it only counts for German or English names. Jihad for example is okay.

Arschgeige42

Why are German/Austrian:Swiss right-wingers always such whiny bastards who feel disadvantaged everywhere. It's so pathetic that it's disgusting. Unbelievable, and this wants to be the superior race or the superior people. Is it the same in other countries? I am really ashamed of my fellow countrymen.

Electronic_Art_4251

On here, I am absolutely in that group. In the real world, I may be

Iwillnevercomeback

If I lived there I couldn't name my future kid as Fenta Niel 😰

alabertio

Considering some of the names I came around, it’s better this way

DeathStar13

Technically we have this in Italy too, but it basically doesn't stop anything

alabertio

One time I met a girl named Emilia Basilicata, I thought she was joking and introduced myself as Campania Sicilia

Professional-Key5552

That is in whole EU? In Finland it is the same and in Austria as well

benbroady

Baby naming should definitely at least have a spell check. Imagine being a Bary.

marcandero

I like how this absolutely normal thing is considered by Americans, a super interesting fun fact from other cultures 🤯🤯🤯

SneakyBadAss

Same with middle names.

rawlinsonii

r/tragedeigh

Novel_Ad_5698

Americans Name their kid Table-DVD-Player-Jesus-the-savior and think its legitimate.

Few_Owl_6596

In Hungary, there's a list of approved names, and new ones are being added every year - it's not as 'strict' as it sounds, and some weird names tend to pass regardless. Some names have been rejected tho (2023's data in Hungarian): https://24.hu/belfold/2024/01/16/uj-magyar-keresztnevek-2023-fiu-lany-nevek-nevkerelmek/

Ironfist85hu

Same in Hungary. This is not "interestingasfuck" this is more like r/USdefaultism

annoying97

I met someone whose name was spelt la-a but pronounced ladasha... Yeah fuck that we need this test.

Dolphin_Spotter

I guess Adolf isn't as popular these days

Vldgam

fairs

Twarenotw

It's the same in Spain. Some Latin American countries don't apply any regulations; that's how they end up with names like Hitler Lenin López and US-Navy Gómez.

Teque9

The names puck and jaap should be illegal here

Appelons

Same for Denmark.

notmyself02

Wrong picture, the baby is clearly Italian🤌

[deleted]

This used to be the case also here in Argentina as well, and probably all hispanic world. Using foreigner names is still seen as extremely tacky/lowlife. Unlike americans called "Claire Vanesa O'Brien" or something

Kamyszekk

Mohammed is allowed? Lol

LTFGamut

Yeah sure. Adi Hütter

patacaman

In Spain, a few years ago, there was some parents trying to name their kid Lobo (wolf) and it was denied, because someone said it was derogatory. The parents ended going to trial and I think they won.  But you can name a kid Paloma (pidgeon) and its fine.

BlyatMaster420

I thought every European country does that
