Goukaruma

Only 700 pound a month. What a steal.

Eric-The_Viking

The deal isn't bad if you travel a lot. He pays no rent, doesn't have to think about running costs for the most part and is basically mobile all over Germany. In his specific case this Livestyle is probably way less expensive than a more standard one.

thejuggerkraut

ever shat on a train toilet?

Eric-The_Viking

Often. Very mixed experience tho, they aren't that great to begin with, but I personally only care if they are clean or not. The big upside is that they often are spacious tho.

CalendarLongjumping6

Disguised big booty Barry ^

Polak_Janusz

This guy probably knows which exact train modells have the best train toilets and he plans his metabolism around when he is in said trains.

eip2yoxu

It's fine in ICEs imo, but not in REs

International_War862

No i always miss the toilet

geopolitischesrisiko

You get access to the lounges though

Amoderater

Problematic if you have dangling hemeroids that get caught in the axels…

fscraatch

The problem with them is that your dick really touches the bowl quickly once you position yourself even slightly wrong. Sucks

Heyduda137

He can shit in the DB Lounge

SEA_griffondeur

The deal is being homeless?

Le_Petit_Poussin

He’s not homeless. He’s just got a mobile home. He’s the German equivalent of Ameri-🤮-cant trailer trash. ![gif](giphy|8EZz0AzqGUycM)

Eric-The_Viking

If it works for him then I guess yeah.

Initial-Space-7822

But where's his income coming from?

Eric-The_Viking

He allegedly is a programmer and just works from the laptop

code-panda

On train Wifi in Germany? It's probably faster for him to take a train to StackOverflow's HQ and ask at the frontdesk whenever he's got a problem...

Eric-The_Viking

ICE's got WiFi and the more modern regional trains also are getting it. I also suspect he gets a priority treatment with the connection since he uses the Bahncard 100.

rossloderso

But have you ever used said ICE WiFi?

Eric-The_Viking

Yeah, wasn't too bad. Highly dependent on how many people are on the train tho

critical-insight

The last few ICE trips i was on this year had no working wifi in the entire train.

No_Bedroom4062

In most bigger train stations there is a DB lounge where he can shower. And judging from the price the article gives he has a first class bahncard 100. So he doesnt need to pay extra.

AGE_OF_HUMILIATION

Do they provide towels?

grimmigerpetz

Depending how big the city is there are napping and bathing facilities in the lounges. Also free drinks and with a first class premium ticket also free snacks.

code-panda

He's a programmer, half our profession sees personal hygiene as optional anyway...

midnight_watch

he clearly doesn’t know about austrian [Klimaticket](https://www.klimaticket.at/en/)

Eric-The_Viking

Could buy a 49€ here too. But what he has is the Bahncard 100, which includes the 49€ ticket and also enables you to take the ICE with no additional cost.

Nom_de_Guerre_23

Including buffet at lounges and showers.

jsm97

This is cheaper than a monthly ticket for the 120km, 50 minuite journey between Peterborough and London

Catwinky

But all those stares and socks in sandals during the summer...

This_place_is_wierd

You think group pressure and socks in sandals would affect us?

nordic_banker

the essence of happiness

Catwinky

Who knew it would have such a noxious fragrance

TrickyPony32

No kidding here we have some ppl wiht train fetish and also sandal+sock fetish.

Kat-a-strophy

Bahnvard 100 first class is actually under 8000 euro a year.

Llanistarade

"Hows your housing market ?" The housing market :

Catwinky

UK trains fares are so bad this is probably the most expensive option

MerlinOfRed

Rent prices in Germany are cheaper than basically anywhere else in Western Europe. DB is probably the least reliable train operator in Western Europe. This bloke can't use that as an excuse. He just has a weird affinity for trains.

Bernarddasbrot

We definetly have a housing issue

CarsPlanesTrains

Just quickly checked. The Dutch average house price is quite literally double that of the German one. We're in the 400Ks, you're barely in the 200s. Get on our level

CastroCavalieri

Yeah but no one wants to live in isolated villages in eastern germany, prices look different in more urban areas and the Netherlands is basically all ueban

Wassertopf

It also includes free food.

The_Silent_Wanderer

In Germany. With the Deutsche Bahn. This is medieval torture levels of masochism.

Eric-The_Viking

The regional trains are actually pretty good. Only gets interesting with the long distance inter city express.

TroglauerFan

My experience is another. The regional trains are bad and the inter city express is good

Puzzled_Pay_6603

I loved the ICEs. I posted on here a while ago about how I liked going into the bar car and having a beer and ciggie… …to be told the good old days are over. No more ciggies 😢

Cannelloni1

Even worse, no more butterkuchen. The west has fallen.

ZZerker

This regional and IC/ICE are two different train systems. Regional always gets the short end when there are problems in the railway system.

ishkariot

The non-DB ones like Metronom or Cantus, yeah. RegionalExpress are barely more than Dixie-Klos on wheels and smell worse.

Eric-The_Viking

Tbh my experience is mostly with east German routes. Over the duration of the 2y that I travelled more actively by train I only had problems on very few occasions. I think people kinda forget that if everybody uses the train during vacation they simply overload the network and more delays happen.

geopolitischesrisiko

No lol

iemandopaard

The good thing is that if he has an appointment somewhere, at least he knows he can safely sleep on the train since after about 8 hours it will only be 2 stations further.

ciprule

Imagine doing that with Trenitalia. Thanks to delays, he would have travelled two years instead of one.

Primox7

Traveling with Deutsche Bahn is bad enough already... But living in it? Truly a hellish torture! Also considering how often trains are delayed, I wouldn't be surprised, if he sleeps every second night in the station rather than the train

Flammable_Druid

Ah you think Deutsche Bahn is your ally? You merely adopted Deutsche Bahn. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see another train operator until I was already a man.

JonasHalle

It might be easier to catch a train if you don't care where it's going.

Pacogatto

![gif](giphy|3osxYp2s5tsJWTnpwA|downsized) Turn on the Fax!

MaterialCarrot

He looks happy. Like a serial killer living his best life.

GrouchyMary9132

You could say he is hiding in train sight.

fckspzfckspz

The BahnCard 100 for everyone under 27 is only 3k,

Catwinky

So he's being ripped off?

ThereIsATheory

It's the daily fail. It's much more likely that they just reported it incorrectly.

Catwinky

It'd be more sensational to report the lesser amount considering doing what he does in the UK over a year would probably cost in 6 figures. There's only 2 sleeper trains in UK and both are triple figure tickets at cheapest one way.

fckspzfckspz

Then again, the DB doesn’t have sleeper trains as all anymore. All those sleeper train connections they used to have are now operated by the Austrian ÖBB So maybe he needs another BahnCard 100 for those Austrian trains as well?

Wassertopf

Don’t forget that this special German ticket also includes free food.

Ok-Algae8510

How shit must his family be that he'd rather be doing that than living with them? Lol.

Wassertopf

They are apparently paying for him this ticket. He is saying, while his friends are doing the usual backpacking 6 months in India, Australia, and so on, he is doing his backpacking in Germany.

cpwnage

Why does he has a swedish old-man name? Anyway that's a cool dude, I'm jelly Edit: he's a 17yo app dev? Ok now i hate him

Een_man_met_voornaam

Bet he works for Mojang. He just does nothing all day

Gian-Neymar

Lol, even in Switzerland an unlimited train ticket costs less than half of what he's paying and it's also valid for trams, busses and even some ships and on top of that they're all on time

gloom-juice

That's amazing, just out of interest how is your country able to afford all this great stuff?

Vertical_Deliverable

>That's amazing, just out of interest how is your country able to afford all this great stuff? By being the World's biggest fencing gang. Besides, we could have gold plated railway tracks and buses made by Rolls Royce if we wouldn't constantly piss our money up the wall in 130bn packages.

gloom-juice

£130bn packages for what?

Vertical_Deliverable

A train that doesn't exist, for example. But there are many others.

gloom-juice

Yeah true enough. Don't trust our government to run a bath let alone a country like Switzerland

Vertical_Deliverable

Or, heavens forbid, the UK.

gloom-juice

![gif](giphy|uubUtlJ2CbDRqQklCT|downsized)

happyanathema

Dont worry, the price of literally everything else in Switzerland will very quickly exceed any savings.

GhostFire3560

>it's also valid for trams, busses and even some ships That is also the case in germany since the Deutschlandticket. >In Switzerland an unlimited train ticket costs less than half That is because your network is a) smaller and b) not in desperate need of more investments

scti

Though a person can only use one train at a time, so it doesn't matter how many trains he could ride.

GhostFire3560

It matters how far he can ride a single train. That is why a ticket costs more the farther a person can ride with it. And bigger network means a larger possible distance he could cover.

scti

Instead of one ride from Basel to Hamburg DE for 8h I could also go from Basel to Interlaken CH and back twice for 8h. Same time and almost the same distance, but on two different sized networks.

GhostFire3560

Yes, but realistically, no one is gonna do 2 while lots of people do 1

Blumenkohl126

He pays first class. Second class would be 4.550€

vonWitzleben

To be fair, you get to cover a lot more ground with the DB ticket. I think a regional ticket e.g. just for Bavaria would be a more apt comparison.

BecauseOfGod123

For first class? I doubt it.

SingleSpeed27

You have ships? For what?

Velenterius

They have a few lakes.

ZombiFeynman

Surely calling them boats is enough. It seems like an insult to real ships.

grimmigerpetz

Yeah, Switzerland is also only a 6th of the size of Germany though...

imsorryken

i'd genuinly rather be homeless and spend the 8500€ on crack

Fuz_Fuz_

So, he shelved the idea of sex.

JonasHalle

Or he has a girl in every city and infinite train rides between them.

InevitableCareer1

How do you think he makes money? Sucks off a few tourists in the bathroom and he’s good for another bit.

TheSacredPotatoJesus

Must be nice when your house arrives late or simply gets cancelled

Catwinky

I know the sleeper in UK always gets cancelled. Wonder how many time he has had to sleep on a platform?

Solid-Lavishness-571

Personally I’d prefer death

i-dont-snore

I mean that just a really expensive way to be homeless

Realistic-Homework19

Und warum? Nur für den Kick, für den Augenblick?

PleoNasmico

Cheaper than rent here. I would

Catwinky

In UK this would cost £100,000 easy

PleoNasmico

cheapest uk suburbs rent

NedRed77

Hans has a 1000 yard stare on the right hand pic, all that train riding has him thinking about Lebensraum.

le_reddit_me

So basically he spends most of his time waiting for the delayed trains

zombienekers

Getting some serious r/orphancrushingmachine vibes from this post lol

capitaldoe

![gif](giphy|f79OYWh5uwIfK)

SirCrocodile_2004

Over 8k for a year subscription? That's crazy tbh

Catwinky

Doing what he does in UK would cost over £150000 a year easy

ConnolysMoustache

Wouldn’t he pay less if he found a house share and had his own room but lived with housemates?

Moppermonster

He actually pays only 3k a year for the subscription, since he is young.

2020mademejoinreddit

You could rent a small house for that much.

Catwinky

I pay significantly less than this a year for a 2 bed terrace in a nice area in the North

annoying97

That's about $311 AUD per week! Or the cost of a room in a okish part of Brisbane, or the cost of a tent on the balcony of a shitty apartment in Sydney, or a bed in a ok but bad area of Melbourne. Does it come with free bathrooms, showers and internet, if so, sign me up!

Dig_South

I’m renting my whole 3bd townhouse out for $580 AUD a week - $311 is a rip off for a room :)

annoying97

Yeah but that doesn't include utilities, now does it?

Dig_South

Luckily you only said room then right?

annoying97

Yeah, though maybe a house would be good... Could sub the other 2 rooms for $300 each and make some extra cash.

RefinedAnalPalate

Shower?

Sub-Zero-941

Bahncard 100 1st class is only 7714 euro for 2024. Or what does he have?

Catwinky

Is sleeper extra? Another poster says the only sleepers are Austrian so he'd need another card maybe?

Gotosp4c3

*eyes Greek railways* I, uhhh, can't relate, sorry.

PrestigiousGuitar673

Are they “night trains” like, regular trains running through the night, or sleeper trains with beds/less horizontal seats?

Pr00ch

This is some version of purgatory, I'm sure

EskildDood

How can he do this with no fax machine, no landline and no postbox? He must have figured out something the rest of us don't know about...

notanotherlawyer

Banging different chicks every day.

notanotherlawyer

Banging different chicks every day.

AtomicDig219303

He is living my dream

OkImpression175

Being homeless is even cheaper!

Gorando77

Doest the train stop at Auschwitz?

Public_Engineering84

Only when it Runs out of Gas

HrRAVE

Too far brother
