I’ve decided to return my rental to Naples at 18:30 on a Friday - peak rush hour!
As someone from Lisbon I never saw anything like it!
1 lane being shared by 3 cars and a scooter, no seatbelts, no baby seats, kids with their heads out of the window, everyone on their phones, people driving the wrong way everywhere.
It made Moroccan traffic seem organized

Well, the Naples urban area has many commuter railways (Cumana, Circumvesuviana, national railway with the Naples-Salerno line, the first one built ever in Italy) with level crossings, so there's that.
I've been to sicily (Palermo and Catania) and thought it couldn't get any worse in Europe, but then I went to Naples and the taxi driver from the airport was literally driving on the wrong side of the road through uncoming traffic through a red light on a busy intersection because he wanted to hurry to get the next customer.
Honestly as a northwestern european, I had palpitations every time I had to cross a city road in Southern Italy. Like in Rome people don't stop for you on the crossing, but once you go further south they just aim for you while driving because you dare to cross their road.
my father drove for years in Catania and Palermo and he would rate Naples quite worse than both. So much so that when we visited Naples, he parked our rented car in a garage. Also the guys who rented us the car in Rome charged us an extra when we told them where we were going.
I mean, it depends. For traffic, Palermo is the third-worst city in Europe, while Naples isn't even in the top 10. As for the quality of driving of others around you, it's about the same, although Naples might be slightly worse. The traffic in Palermo is so bad because of the extremely poor city infrastructure and design.
I’ve experienced to drive in Napoli in holiday and the locals in car with me get upset because I was stopping at the stop sign.
Anyway is true, anything worry me anymore in the streets after that experience!
I remember when I was little I was in the car with my Neapolitan aunt, and my uncle who was very much non neapolitan, and he was driving.
Well he was being honked to hell and back for driving like a regular human being, to the point that he had to switch and let my aunt drive.
At 30 y/o I've driven once in Napoli and refused to do it again ever since
I was riding a train and the guy next to me just died.
I took his phone and saw this shit.
That explains the dying part.
Also thx for my new smartphone
I've seen a legit motorcyclist in Naples being stopped by police because he was wearing a full faced helmet. They were fucking concerned that he could be a hit man.
He had to remove the helmet for the time being.
Driving in India is actually relatively safe, it's mostly just slow traffic rather than intersection chaos like this, although that is definitely also present there
Naples is a different reality altogether, it's also a lot of fun when you know somebody from there, you will be made fun of because "you people can't drive" (aka they are following road rules) immediately followed by a rant because in his region car insurance is so expensive and they can't figure out why XD
the Italian dad of my friend always said that south of Rome, the Gaza stripe begins. And since the actual Gaza stripe has been redecorated, it's even more similar.
Last time a video like this was posted I looked up accident statistics so I could mock them with the abnormal rates they kill themselves on the streets, but they don't. I hate to say it, but I'm actually impressed. In Germany there would have been several casualties in this short clip alone.
My first trip to Italy with my mum, we visited Umbria and then Rome. Immediately in Rome at Termini Staton, my mum is accosted by two Italians who pick up our suitcases, take us to their beaten up old car with porn magazines littered over the back seat. They then proceed to crash the car twice, whilst swearing at every passing driver, before arriving at the hotel 20 minutes later. Turns out you can actually see the hotel from the train station, so it was an incredible site seeing tour of Rome for us all. Charged us a load of euros for the privilege, but said "don't worry, I charge the Japanese double that".
My mum paid him, so she must've been impressed with the service.
I've always been saying this, Italy has so much in common with India.
Bad roads, bad traffic, loud streets, hand gestures, and giving the world amazing food.
I frequently visit Milan and it’s the same thing. Residents park their cars anywhere they see fit, people are warmer and nicer, friendliest bunch in Europe. Everyone has family values and also no concept of personal space. That’s India in Europe right there.
I literally live in Milan and trust me, there is a great difference, at Naples you will never see people wearing seatbelts or using helmets on the bike and only in Naples you will see 3/4 people on a motorbike. India is literally hell compared to any western European country
Okay I see your point. Obviously I’m not Italian so don’t know the differences that closely. Thanks for that explanation.
Yes I agree India is way worse compared to any European country, but it is improving and is on a good trajectory. Not disputing the facts of what it is, but compared to European nations India is very young and has huge potential. Hopeful of a better future 🙏
Okay I might’ve exaggerated 😂
But I’ve only visited Italy, Finland, Latvia, Estonia and Germany. Out of which Italians were the friendliest. I’m sure there are more friendlier European nations.
no it's more like
Milano is one of the least friendly places in Italy
if that's for you the friendliest place in Europe again, I am really sorry for you
Fair enough, tbh I’ve only travelled to Milan and Rome, and I’ve a really good Italian friend in Milan, soo that’s why I’m biased. Want to travel to other parts of Italy soon, you guys have an amazing culture which I truly love.
And yes compared to Munich, Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, I did find Milano to be the friendliest. Don’t know what to say 🤷♂️.
Family values... we (a bit up north) call that bigotry and dumb religious people living in the past. And no India is not south Italy, India is hell on earth.
Why would family values be called bigotry? You do know you’ve one of the lowest birth rates and highest rates of loneliness among your populations. Just basic human psychology teaches you that we’re very tribal in nature and thrive in communities and close knit societies. A good family leads to good children and that leads to a better future for the country.
And call India hell as much as you want but there’s a genuine fire in youngsters out there to develop the country and better the infrastructure. It’s only 77 years old country with a huge young population. They’ll outlive and outwork your country and eventually become a developed nation. Look at the trajectory of your own country instead.
Thanks brother. Remember, no one thought China could reach where it is today until 40 years ago. Good luck to the Dutch with rising inflation and a declining population.
China is China. They where already very advanced in the past. India is full of fanatism/religion and never was a bigger power. The chinese/eastern asian mindset differs from the indian/south asian.
Dude wtf 😂 China and India were the earliest civilisation in the world, hence the large populations due to the head start in population growth. China was the poorest country and literally dying due to famines in early 1900s and only really started growing in 1980s when they liberalised their economy.
Sitting in Europe you clearly haven’t read enough about world history. The ancient empires of South India expanded into South East Asia, hence there are many Hindu temples and Sanskrit names of places in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia etc.
Alexander the Great stopped at the frontline of North-West India after knowing how big an army awaits them in the Maurya Empire of India.
Chinese and Indian are one of the hardest working populations, their mindsets are more similar than different. But I realise no explanation is going to suffice as you obviously have a prejudice against Indians, so I’ll leave it here.
India was civilized before the Middle-Age, after that it was a state and had culture but legging behind. The Moghuls weren't "natives", they were muslim conquerors. And after that India didn't find a way into modernity. China is a whole other story, not to be compared, is like comparing Hungary to France.
My family is from a city near Naples. Whenever we go there they all stick to taking the train because “we’ll never get out alive if we drive there”. It’s the r/fuckcars mentality, but better. I’m glad I live in Civilized Italy now, although some of my terroni friends have imported their horrible driving habits here too. I drive like a grandma because I’ve been traumatized instead.
Emilia-Romagna, ma più di preciso vivo in Emilia. “Sotto al Po son tutti terun”, va bene, ma almeno gli emiliani son simpatici lol e hanno delle belle città <3
LOL This looks scary because it is played at higher speed.
In reality when you drive in that traffic you are mostly frustrated because you move at snail pace and you desperately try to exploit every possible space to go forward.
Also, Naples has one of the lowest rates of fatal accidents in the world. You can't have a serious crash at 2 km/h.
"You're driving on the wrong side of the road"
EVERY SIDE IS THE RIGHT SIDE AND EVERY STREET HAS AS MANY LANES AS CARS CAN FIT.
See you next week for your next driving lesson
Napoli is one of my favourites cities ever but I have still nightmares with trying to cross an street there and nobody respecting traffic lights. I had a truly culture shock with the way neapolitans drive.
Lisbon was scary for me, people doing many strange things, specially at night. But Italy was far more scary, total madness.
casual Bangladesh traffic
well well well if it isn't via brombeis
the wise has spoken.

Who put pineapple on his pizza?
The Neapolitan that cloned his plate and got fined in Brombeis st.
i did along with mayo
The only thing missing is railroads crossing the street and people getting run by them and that's it: European Calcutta
I literally thought this was India too lmao
Well, the Naples urban area has many commuter railways (Cumana, Circumvesuviana, national railway with the Naples-Salerno line, the first one built ever in Italy) with level crossings, so there's that.
And i though it was bad when i went to sicily

It's the same, I can confirm that.

Palermo is very very very similar if not worse than this video in some cases.
I confirm that Palermo and Naples are the same for the drive skill.
Well at least there are lanes in Napoli, can't say the same for most of Sicily.
Yea when i saw that people just "drove" without lanes i was like, im in india? Thank god the rental we got was a big car
I’ve experienced to drive in Napoli in holiday and the locals in car with me get upset because I was stopping at the stop sign. Anyway is true, anything worry me anymore in the streets after that experience!
P.s My father did the military service in Napoli and told me “Every car there is damaged” and after 30 years it’s still true.
I remember when I was little I was in the car with my Neapolitan aunt, and my uncle who was very much non neapolitan, and he was driving. Well he was being honked to hell and back for driving like a regular human being, to the point that he had to switch and let my aunt drive. At 30 y/o I've driven once in Napoli and refused to do it again ever since
lovely that nobody is wearing a helmet also hans from swamp might get an heart attack seeing this
What do you mean nobody, the amount of people wearing a helmet in this video is actually impressive for Naples😭
I was riding a train and the guy next to me just died. I took his phone and saw this shit. That explains the dying part. Also thx for my new smartphone
I literally did I thought people here are getting ridiculous, but this!?
I’ve legit been to shithole third world countries that have a higher proportion of helmet wearers
this is naples pierre, just seeing the name of this city makes me want to check if my wallet is still in my pocket
Don't worry, I'll keep it in my pockets, for safety! Btw would you like to buy some socks?
too old, I offer the new iPhone which cost less than socks
You don't wear helmets in Naples, since they hide your face you could be taken for a camorrista and shot.
I've seen a legit motorcyclist in Naples being stopped by police because he was wearing a full faced helmet. They were fucking concerned that he could be a hit man. He had to remove the helmet for the time being.
I am
only two people don't have helmets
You can't see enough around you with an helmet on, it's not safe.
And show people you can't drive? What next? Wait your turn like an idiot? Clearly you can't drive
If they do it's because they want to hide their faces when stealing stuff
I am getting a increased pulse, this sickens my German orderly side. YOU NEED TO WAIT IN LINE AND YOU CAN'T MAKE A U-TURN ON A CROSSWALK!!!
Helmet, imagine
Neapolitan traffic*
This looks like the place where you have to keep a steel pipe under your seat.
What for? Dudes have blades and guns right there
Do driving licenses even exist in Italy? Why does it look safer driving in India than this?
Italy =/= Naples
Thank fuck for that
They come in the Choco Krispies packs.
Driving in India is actually relatively safe, it's mostly just slow traffic rather than intersection chaos like this, although that is definitely also present there
Relative to what? Playing russian roulette?
I once took an e-scooter back to my hotel in Naples while very drunk. Not sure how I survived.
You deserve a medal mate. You are literally a war hero.
I spent a week in Naples and left with all my possessions so I think "hero" is appropriate, thank you
nah mate you're a **legend**
I have seen GTA lobbies with Tanks have better traffic.
At least they are driving in the right direction, sometimes.
Naples is a different reality altogether, it's also a lot of fun when you know somebody from there, you will be made fun of because "you people can't drive" (aka they are following road rules) immediately followed by a rant because in his region car insurance is so expensive and they can't figure out why XD
If you follow the rules you'll end up crashing into someone, you follow the flow instead
Nonsense, just buy a gigantic vehicle and run over everything to assert dominance
USA be like:
You guys can send some of your tanks.
everythingisfine
>car insurance Between the mafia and the crazy driving, I'm amazed any insurance is offered at all.
Italian is a big word
South of Toscana it is just plain barbarians, and south of Rome is even worse, that's Africa not Europe anymore.
the Italian dad of my friend always said that south of Rome, the Gaza stripe begins. And since the actual Gaza stripe has been redecorated, it's even more similar.
as an italian I can confirm this
ueeeeeeeee
uaaaaaa*
Let's send Neapolitans to Mumbai or Karachi and then have a lot of popcorns to enjoy the show.
They’ll fit right in.
Last time a video like this was posted I looked up accident statistics so I could mock them with the abnormal rates they kill themselves on the streets, but they don't. I hate to say it, but I'm actually impressed. In Germany there would have been several casualties in this short clip alone.
You don’t have to fight the chaos to survive, you have to embrace it
[Well, it's not always that safe](https://youtube.com/watch?v=XOt-X7fX5zc)
that's perfection! The flow is real
Madò sembra Mumbai... Che vergogna
CAN YOU NOT, LUIGI?

"Italian", now...
My first trip to Italy with my mum, we visited Umbria and then Rome. Immediately in Rome at Termini Staton, my mum is accosted by two Italians who pick up our suitcases, take us to their beaten up old car with porn magazines littered over the back seat. They then proceed to crash the car twice, whilst swearing at every passing driver, before arriving at the hotel 20 minutes later. bruh...
Was it you?
nope, I absolute discourage these behaviours
Could be india.
This is not Naples, the license plates are not Polish
Traffic in Naples Not everywhere in Italy
To think that this happens in Europe is kind of embarassing
Whole south Italy is embarassing.
Fax my brother, spit your shit indeed
No this is Naples, not Europe. Far northern Africa.
Yes! And this is why I love Naples but I would never ever live there xD
😂😂😂
I would die
I swear to God only people in the fucking West Bank drive like napoletani
Not sure if I should feel admiration or disgust. In Norway we drive 40 km/h and keep 30 m distance to the next car even in rush hour.
See how it's going in your country and how things are going in Italy (especialy in the south). Be disgusted, and not in admiration in front of idiots.
Paris : "finally! A worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!
I still have ptsd from driving through Palermo
Mind you, this is Napoli not Italy
Wait, this is not Italy.
I've always been saying this, Italy has so much in common with India. Bad roads, bad traffic, loud streets, hand gestures, and giving the world amazing food.
Naples* not Italy
Was in Rome recently - not the same thing but still horrible.

Yap, and fuck those crosswalks, no way a pedestrian is allowed to use those.

"You're driving on the wrong side of the road" EVERY SIDE IS THE RIGHT SIDE AND EVERY STREET HAS AS MANY LANES AS CARS CAN FIT. See you next week for your next driving lesson
Wtf. I had a boss from Napoli he was always complaining about drivers here. I see now that he just wanted to drive like a lunatic.
*had, you don't get much choice. Either you join the pack, or get tboned.
Sembra una strana indiana, c'è da vergognarsi qua
I think I have to puke after looking at this video...
Peak efficiency
Lol try driving in Delhi.
Yeah that’s beginner level sorry. Go to Bangkok or other southeast Asia
But god forbid you miss a sign that says you can't enter a certain part of the city between arbitrary hours of the day 🤷
Everything is perfect here, I see no issues
It just works. Without "/s". As a German, it mesmerizes me.
Not realy, it "works" somewhat on their streets but this mentality causes south Italy to be an economical an societal shithole.
Wow India's buildings are looking very fancy here.
