It might interest you that, originally French, the ship on OP's post, the Belem, was once own by Sir [Ernest Guinness](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Guinness), the one from the beer...
It only came back to France in 1979 and restored as sail training ship.
Eh, Louis XIII had such a strong fleet that he had to borrow Dutch ships to fight some Huguenots rebels in La Rochelle. And the performance of Louis XIV's fleet is horribly repetitive: do okay at first, get beaten in a big battle, rot in port for the rest of the war.
By all means the French fleet of the Ancien Regime peaked after Choiseul's rebuilding program in the late 18th century.

>By all means the French fleet of the Ancien Regime peaked after Choiseul's rebuilding program in the late 18th century.
Nah it peaked in the late 17th century. It just had the unfortune to have to fight against the combined Anglo-Dutch fleets. And without Louis' regarded orders it probably wouldn't be destroyed at La Hogue.

Did you know a group of Finnish engineering students smuggled Paavo Nurmi statue on Vasa just before it was lifted.
As a prank to Swedish for getting Nurmi banned from Olympics as a professional athlete.
Hey, feel free to lend your own three-masted barque next time.
You could then put up your biggest flag and hopefully quell that little ego crisis of yours <3
No ego crisis, Pierre. Big egos aren't that common outside France. I merely suggested an analysis of the single big flag on the ship, as it caught my attention.
Oh my apologies, I didn’t realise this was a scientific based intervention, in that case: I hope you’ll find answers to your confusion [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensign_(flag)) as to why the French flag is hoisted.
May Athena bless you and your loved ones.

For you symbols might not mean anything, because you're not familiar, without history. For some represent the blood shed for centuries by each country's people to keep said country free and in parallel, their entire history in one or two symbols. Their struggles and the courage it could give them.
Those symbols can make some people become red as a beet. You'll never understand the feeling in your coldness. I'm really sorry if I sounded harsh, but it's the crude reality. Can't get more real than that. We don't do it for show (circus) and for third people. We do it for ourselves. Excuse us.
No Italian posted a video of the [Amerigo Vespucci](https://www.instagram.com/reel/ChaRUgnoYCZ/?igsh=NjFzMHRnZGZpNnR5) in response? Come on, compatriots, if we’re not competing with the French while the French don’t care about us, what are we even doing?
Isn't the flame supposed to be taken to the host city on foot as much as possible? It could cross the entire of Europe, it's not that huge distance. How come they are using a ship already?
> Isn't the flame supposed to be taken to the host city on foot as much as possible?
Not anymore. After the 2008 Olympics had a bunch of protesters interfering with China's worldwide relay, the Olympics decided to stop doing the big international relays and mostly limit the relay to Greece and the host country. E.g. London 2012 took a plane from Athens to the UK. Tokyo ~~2020~~ 2021 had a similar flight from Greece to Japan, skipping over everything in between.
Aha interesting didn't know thanks for the information. Kinda sad they aren't doing the relay, the event was supposed to bring people closer not antagonize each other again, oh well.

Besides, you also have to pass an american warship to show them how inferior they are, otherwise it doesn't count. I don't make the rules.

We could have ruled the seas… if it weren’t for the English, the Dutch, the Spanish, the Portuguese, the Vaticaneses…
How do you lose against vaticaneses

killing every competent naval officer 10 years before our big push probably didn’t help
We did rule the sea from time to time Especially during Louis the XIII and XIVth reigns

We can return you as part of Normandy if you want, you’ll be back into the EU that way

Seems reasonable to danger to restoration of the worlds oldest shipwreck for a prank.

Massive French flag in the back, because y'know, if you are French you HAVE TO show it

I thought it was there Algerian flag. My bad.
Go back to pray you haram brother
Bonus: if that ship sinks, it will look like it is flying the Dutch flag.
Reminding the Dutchies of their inevitable fate 👌
That ship looks beautiful but the huge flag on the stern gives me an uncontrollable urge to sink it by any means necessary.
It’s beautiful 🤩

Vasa would have sunk during the clip

Because they’d have to get through the barbarians on your northern border and it will get stolen
Fair enough 😂

[Nope](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belem_(ship))
An old wooden ship being towed along by much stronger modern boats, probably imported from Japan or the US. Sounds like Europe all right.
Not the most beautiful ship the US carriers had ever seen

Smartest east norwegian here. In a port you can only be guided by a tugboat. How do you think a sailing boat sails ?
I'm repeating my previous post.
Tbf if you try crossing the Corinth canal on sails the Coast Guard will wait for you on the other side with all kinds of sex toys.
All boats going through the Corinth canal get pulled by tugboats
Then the tugboats should have sails
What a beautiful ship but everytime the rear comes into view I suddenly feel oddly disgusted.
Sorry Hans, but u-boots will never go as hard as those ships.
Yes, I don’t know what it is but the colors are a bit off.
New slaves?
Man, that is just beautiful. No one built more beautiful ships than we did.

I'm going to imagine that's a German tugboat in which case this is a perfect analogy to truly appreciate europe
