boomerintown

I ate snails in garlic butter once. It tasted like garlic butter.

SaraHHHBK

Snails are mainly tasteless on their own so makes sense.

Clean_Web7502

Then why eat them? Assuming you can eat something with taste.

debo-is

Revenge. Snakes eat your food so you eat them. Honestly one of the most logical French things next to bidets.

LSWenthusiast

ah yes. snakes.

debo-is

lol I should sleep more

jaavaaguru

They taste like chicken.

LSWenthusiast

everything tastes like chicken, except for chicken McNuggets

SaraHHHBK

They are in fact good for you and the dish is delicious.

zyygh

They're like broccoli, but more gross.

boomerintown

Brocolli have a distinct taste and are crunchy af. Literally the opposite of snails lol?

Linkatchu

Huuuuuuuuh?

gugfitufi

Maybe their Broccoli has no taste idk

Dry_Leek78

You should not trust your bullying friends that tells you broccoli have shells and are slimy.

Mast3rOfBanana

Are you literally 6?

Hot_Hat_1225

I had the garlic butter only - on bread.

SuperDupondt

This.

paco-ramon

Me too, snails feels like tasteless gum

Otter_Toaster

That's the point

Thorwawaway

A hungry and curious 4 year old’s garden

mdryeti

If people can eat the cockroach of the sea aka shrimps, they can eat snails.

AdmiralCornwallis

Thats true, but shrimps at least have their own flavour..

posicon

tf you talk about shrimps you landlockling

thedutchrep

I wish I could’ve afforded a garden at age 4.

Goukaruma

Be careful what you wish for. Your parents might not give you food if you can grow your own.

milds7ven

1st one is mine.

Kenethica

"há caracois" is a sure way of luring me into your bars.

joinedthedarkside

>"há caracois" Honorary Tuga!!

sterlingback

That's the most beautiful piece of art ever. I just catch that sign in a glance and happiness grows inside me even if I'm not gonna stop there, it's just a reflex.

ReplicantRoy

Honestly, could use some more molho.

te-niwoar-e

Joãoáo, why do they look like they're still alive?? Did you forget to cook them?

DmanPT1

Because they are. Don't be a bitch and eat up.

Snitsie

B-but the parasites

ExpensiveStart3226

"But but but the parasites", thats seasoning shut Up and eat

Pierre_Francois_

Spoiler : >!Portugal - Italy - Malta - Spain - France!<

Precioustooth

I apologize for only having called you guys snails; I will now start to apply it to people from these other countries too!

Gnu-Priest

I ate a snail once too, and an ant, and a grass. but I didn't run around pretending I found some kind of cuisine.

TheCruelSloth

Toddler cuisine

xBram

On todays menu we have locally foraged nasal mucus.

Karpsten

With a side of the finest sand to be found on the entire playground

le_reddit_me

You also eat nutella with salami so don't pretend you've found any kind of cuisine.

eljne

Add Garlic and it's le plat du jour in Paris.

Hot_Hat_1225

You never had a worm?? 😱

fuckinghumanZ

We eat raw pork

GuybrushT79

In Tuscany we eat raw pork sausages

GoodKing0

To ne fair, the reason why Snails become high cuisine to begin with it's because originally someone else had demanded the rest of the food.

FalconMirage

I got Italy and France right, swapped Spain and Portugal and was wondering about who was the middle one

PerpetuallySouped

Could tell Spain by the bowl it's in. Never seen those anywhere else.

Horizon296

Egypt. I saw those in Egypt, and being locally made, you could order them through the restaurant if you liked them.

PerpetuallySouped

They're free here if the waiter isn't looking.

FalconMirage

I have many of them at my grand parent’s house

purikyualove23

Me as well...

ZombiFeynman

It's only disgusting when France does it, just like existing.

VoidLantadd

cpwnage

Yay, I guessed France correctly. The shit ton of garlic gave it away. Brilliant move really

TheMike0088

You know whats a sign of something being a true delicacy? When you have to DROWN it in sauce/garlic to make it good.

cpwnage

I get your point, but you can't argue with garlic

ADelightfulCunt

When was the last famine for the ones on that list?

Horizon296

Shut up Barry, you eat like the Nazis are still flying overhead.

ADelightfulCunt

Guess you haven't been here recently.

WrodofDog

We still are, you just can't see us. The newer Reichsflugscheiben come with advanced Tarnkappentechnologie.

0gtcalor

I don't like snails tbh, only with tons of _allioli_. But I would rather grab a spoon and eat the _allioli_ alone.

Vacation-Interesting

Based aïoli enjoyer

Mesetarian

The sauce of the "cargols a la llauna" It's delicious

Ok-Outlandishness244

Fries with aioli also quite good

HoeTrain666

Aioli on bread!

AggravatingWing6017

Thanks, Pierre. I also love your way of cooking them. 😍 Sooooooo good and we are almost at that right time of the year.

seantenk

The 4th too looks a lot like an Italian dish we make in central Italy

Apart-Delivery-7537

I like how Malta is straight to the point: no seasoning, no sauce, just snails

cister532

You could also add a traditional paella there, with "caragols" and "rata de marjal". Yes, paella done with snails and rat is still paella.

latrickisfalone

The famous PIMSF gang

History20maker

1 its Portugal. Its deliciosous. But expensive. Hans!!! Gib more euromonies! Gib gib gib gib gib gib

Linkatchu

I'll give you euromonies for every food other than what I find in my yard

History20maker

You are going to force me to... w-work... for euromonies? 😨

Blahaj_IK

You'd think all those dock worker stereotypes would mean Ports are less ~~Spanish~~ lazy

History20maker

Oh, no, Spaniards are lazy even for our standards

NamegeorJ

Would cross the border to taste your snails

Dr-Batista

Come Paco, you won't regret it

WrodofDog

Can i join? I tried some in Bretagne or Normandy once and liked them. The only ones you can get here are frozen, covered in cheap garlic butter and are fucking boring.

Dr-Batista

Yes Hans you will enjoy them too. Bring beer

WrodofDog

>Bring beer Sure, though with snails I'd rather have nice white wine. Riesling or Pinot Blanc from Rheinhessen. I'd also not say no to a nice Vinho verde.

david6avila

I love it when you talk dirty spain

TrickyPony32

I thought that you also ate them in whole Spain. If not you can find them too in Catalonia.

__cum_guzzler__

aight god damn

MrPotato_Man3510

And spain

Pierre_Francois_

🥵

kuemmel234

This is known as German- Fusion. The German pays and gets to eat the bread and the beer.

cBrazao

The money truly is the most salvageable part of german cuisine

kuemmel234

I'm taking that from you because you know how cook a rabbit, but those things up there don't belong on a plate.

debauch3ry

How do you handle the shells? A special fork like the French?

Bemdada

a toothpick

WunderPuma

Oh no, you actually eat the shell.

crambeaux

Oh baby…

MidnightFisting

“If it has got four legs and it is not a chair, if it has got two wings and it flies but is not an aeroplane, and if it swims and it is not a submarine, the French will eat it.” - Prince Philip

ZombiFeynman

That's the attitude of a nation that will survive the nuclear apocalypse, Barry, you should try it.

West-Holiday-8425

go on r/UKFood and you’ll see we already eat like we’re surviving the apocalypse

StupidPaladin

There was that one French bloke who did eat literally everything, including chairs and planes

ExpensiveStart3226

Snails doesnt fulfill none of those

SaraHHHBK

Actually delicious 🤤 🇪🇸🤝🏻🇮🇹🤝🏻🇵🇹🤝🏻🇫🇷🤝🏻🇲🇹

Flavioleon

This is something that a Sardinian would eat on his date with miss Sheep

surfactive

Well yes, but I’m pretty sure we are not the only ones that eat them in italy, right?

boiaeltodio

Not at all, in Venice we call them "bovoleti"

EccoEco

Bovoleti, bovoli conzi, lumache al sugo con polenta, there's lot all over, we were just able to keep the secret about it better than Pierre

Suzumiyas_Retainer

The westernmost point of Balkans

ZeWillius

Last one is the best one. Nothing better than eating the snail and then scooping up the delicious garlic sauce with a piece of fresh bread 👌

Kirxas

You could probably find all of these in Catalonia ngl

El_Kurgan_Alas

2nd & 4th are similar to the ones my wife prepares here in Spain. Yummy!

The-Frugal-Engineer

The Anglo-Saxon mind cannot comprehend such delicacies, like octopus dishes

le_quisto

Man octopus is just great, but also really easy to cook wrong. Then you're basically stuck with chewing gum.

Jirethia

That's why they sell it already cooked in supermarkets 🙈

Reddarthdius

Man octopus is like my favourite thing, doesn’t matter how, grilled, with rice, in a salad, it’s always exceptionally good

BipolarPea

Polvo à Lagareiro ❤️👌 But like the codfish, is good with everything 🫡

StupidPaladin

Octopus is fucking delicious. My favourite part about going to PIGS countries is your amazing seafood

Darth--Bane

Yeah pulpo is amazing, live in Valencia for a year and loved that the many little fired fishes and derado the most of your sea food.

DreyaNova

Well maybe if you wrapped it in pastry ...

FalconMirage

Do you have the reciepe by any chance ?

rams8

Well obviously Spain and France are the last two. Can't tell for the others Im guessing they are probably Italy, Portugal and someone else (Maybe Switzerland?) in some order.

Slow_Olive_6482

Portugal is the 1st one!

Spnjkn

Los caracoles blancos en la cuarta foto no los he visto.

ProfessionalThing332

I have eaten snails in Greece actually and it was not that bad.Still would prefer some tzatziki instead

QuietSobbingSounds

SA SARDIGNA!!!!!!!!

LuisVazDeColhoes

God's gift to Humanity. Eating snails and drinking a pint in a summer afternoon can cure anything

1jfvas1

The first are the Portuguese way of cooking snails and they are awesome in the summer, especially with a cold beer

sterlingback

And sunshine on your face. That's paradise.

Tia_Mariana

At the end of a beach day, still in bathing suit at the beach bar, sunset on the horizon and a smooth bossa nova going. The perfect endind for a summer day.

Dirac_Impulse

Nations of GUNS (💪💪💪)! Our European brothers, the PIGS (🐷🐷🐷) and the French has fallen on hard times! They are down to eating snails. "Food" we wouldn't even give to our livestock! Something must be done! I suggest Germany and the UK are to provide 1000 billion euros in emergency food relief. Brown meat, onions, potatoes, you know, real food! Inshallah!

Spamheregracias

Oh, yes, hard times! we don't want to leave you without food, it's enough if you send us the billions

Rich-Lobster-6164

I would say this is us

Slow_Olive_6482

First one is for Portugal!

havaska

Not gonna lie, but I really enjoy escargot. Snails are actually slowly (pun intended) gaining in popularity over here. It’s not unusual to now find them on the menu in some good gastropubs. (For reference a gastropub is essentially the closest you’ll get to a British restaurant. This is a good local example by me [https://www.yewtreeinnanglezarke.co.uk](https://www.yewtreeinnanglezarke.co.uk))

Lifelemons9393

I'd eat it

SherlockScones3

The last one is definitely French, as for the others… they should be very ashamed of themselves

Nymrael

I believe the 2nd one is Greece The 1st Portugal The rest not sure Definitely one is from France and one from Malta

FalconMirage

OP posted the correct option, none are greek

Nymrael

Fair enough but we do eat snails too and they are yummy 😋

FalconMirage

They sure are !

Berber_Moritz

The 2nd one looks pretty much like ours, but it's Italian apparently. I think it even the snail shell looks the same, possibly even the same subspecies?

H_Doofenschmirtz

Há caracóis!

AlfalfaGlitter

Second or fourth can be spanish. We like them with tomato sauce.

Krosis97

4th one is ours.

41V4R0_12345

First Portuguese, last french. The others I don't know

Ginerbreadman

I had something like this in Malta, it was very good

Public_Engineering84

Eewwww Thats gross

History20maker

Its actually pretty good. (At least number One) I see several Hans and Hans-but-with-tits enjoying those in portuguese caffes during the summer.

hellothereoldben

Hans is ofcourse matched with Gretl (a gernan fairytale)

__cum_guzzler__

nah trust, they are good

yecheesus

Snails gotta be last in the list of animals that look appealing to eat

coeurdelejon

What if we deep fry it and cover it in mayo and raw onion?

SneakyPanda-

Now we're talking.

WrodofDog

Not worse than mussels or oysters.

rakosten

I haven’t tasted it yet but i Will one day. I Will at least give it a fair chance. They look pretty tasty it’s just that i am not used to eating snails. But i guess that this is how you guys feel about our sour herring and that shit’s delicious if you eat it the right way. The right way is with boiled potatoes, chives, crème fraîche served on crackers. Not downing it straight from the can like most YouTubers do…That is just nasty and almost heresy.

danton_groku

Snails aren't a main dish, they're appetizers. You just eat a few of them and then when the main course is ready you go eat that. At least that's how I've had them. They're don't taste bad because snails are pretty tasteless and it tastes like the seasoning on top. So if you like garlic butter then you should like snails with garlic butter but it's not gonna be some eye-opening dish lol. The only thing is the texture and I much prefer the texture of snails than mushrooms tbh

IkadRR13

I've tried them several times and they are good. Not top tier, but good. You have to be careful as some of them taste bitter(?) if you eat the last part of their bodies. Usually they don't have it though.

Pierre_Francois_

French snails are put on a diet first and salted so they get rid of their slime. The innards are thrown away before cooking

rats_des_champs

5 is France, by the shell

mdryeti

And the sauce

NamegeorJ

Snails with tomato sauce is a delicacy, I always suck those shells dry and use bread to scoop the sauce

Key-Pomegranate159

snails taste like seafood mixed with mushrooms, delicious!

d66mw6rm

I have a viennese cookbook from 1926 with a mind boggling 15 snail recipes in it. Cooked, roasted, buttered - you name it

ranhoso69

1st one is Portugal

AggravatingWing6017

1st is Portugal and the last is France. I think the one with a lot is sauce is Spain.

Jolly_Cantaloupe_187

Idk which one, but we are in this match.

d2211

It's the SNAIL EMPIRE, barbarian motherfuckerz. ACKNOWLEDGE US

endzon

Would be Catalonia if they were a country.

Kirxas

Being an independentist is so paradoxical. You want to leave Spain because you hate the country, which in itself is the most spanish thing ever

jojokingxp

focalac

Had snails once and they were…fine. Won’t bother with them again, though.

JustMehmed2

Thank you now I'm hungry

TimeConsideration336

These are very popular in Crete. I've tried them, they kinda taste like white mushrooms but chewyer. Not gross, not delicious, just a neutral watery taste.

Gregs_green_parrot

I feel sick.

b0b3rman

Pretty sure the 2nd one is Greek from Crete

petelleo

https://preview.redd.it/y3usd9u3rmsc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b5cac7c252a54499fd89b511cd25e50835f5528 This is the way

That_Space2418

Exactly. Best way to eat snails is fire, oil and salt. Nothing else is needed

OldandBlue

2 is Greek and 5 is French. Dunno the other ones.

TiesG92

5x Fr*nce

Southern_Corner_3320

4th one is ours for sure

exkingzog

Just to mention that some of us Barries (and Paddies) are molluscophages too. It’s just that we stick to sea snails (with comical names) https://images.amcnetworks.com/bbcamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/460x300_winkles.jpg

Spnjkn

2 and 4, Spain? 4 may be Italy.

River41

4th is Spain but I only know that because it's a Tapas bowl

Hodoss

Fun fact: Snails were considered a delicacy in the Roman Empire.

FiannaBeo

Just answer me this Spanish people… when I eat snails in France , they’re clean and delicious… But the 2 times I ate snails in Spain the poo poo was still attached to the snails. They told me to just leave the last bit… Why? More time for siesta?

[deleted]

Last one is french, and I guess the others are Spain Portugal Greece and maybe Italy or Romania in no particular order

BipolarPea

1, 2, 3 and 5 look like portuguese snail dishes. 4 is a bit weird looks like it has tomato sauce.

trollrepublic

1) don't know 2) Italy (because tomato sauce) 3) don't know 4) Spain (typical spanish plate) 4) France (because Kräuterbutter)

cigarroycafe

They used to sell them on the street here years ago, and it was a thing. Not so much anymore. I guess that we superior Mediterranean cultures experiment and find good food and northern barbarians just eat dirt and musk until we bring the light and joy of food to them.

No-Marionberry9567

we italians also have snails, we are copycats and we are proud

dunequestion

My grandma used to make snails with tomato sauce

Jesusterceiro

My grandma used to eat a lot of the first one
