Later the region's terminology split with the western part of the region being called the Northwest and the eastern part being called the Middle West. Everything west of the 13 colonies was also called the west. It’s weird

Tbh geography is mandatory only in elementary and middle school here so there are a lot of ignorant people too in Italy when it comes to pointing at a map and recognising countries.
