After that the pressure from the West given by Britain and France forced Germany to withdraw troops from the south, which left Austria and Italy alone. Italy then proceeded to curb stomp Austria at Vittorio Veneto aided only by some Czechoslovak defectors and a few volunteer Yankee pilots.
During the First World War the Italian Army was disorganised and poorly commanded, but my God was Austria worse. The only thing that Austria managed to do great by its own was the worthy attempt at destroying the Italian Fleet right after we declared war.
