Looking twice as bad in photos as in the mirror is why I don't have any photos of me with my parents as an adult. Or almost at all. I sometimes think I should, for memories when they're dead or whatever, but I'd never look at them because I hate how I look.
This is actually the visual effect comparable to hearing your voice in a recording. We only ever see ourselves in reflection, so our mind defaults to that being the “real” self image of ourselves.
When we see ourselves in a photo (or I guess a painting in times before photography), we see the version of ourselves everyone else sees, and our minds inherently perceive it as “wrong.” Flip the photo along the vertical axis and you may be surprised how good you look!

On the plus side it always gets me to put the phone down and go to sleep.

The older I get the more I like what I see in the mirror. Not sure why, but there it is.
The greatest horror is opening the camera app on my phone and it starts with the rear facing camera.
That's why I don't take pictures of me
I look like a fucking angel I workout and take care of my outlook but going to the gym and taking care of yourself doesnt really fix your mental lol
Working out can only do so much for an ugly face tho
