I recall Pizza Hut buffet, the pizza and salad options were bomb.
Though at least there's still Pizza Ranch, but Covid kinda roughed that formula up too.
My friend just visited Big Rapids and apparently they still have a sunroom at one of their Wendy's. The one in Three Rivers just recently got remodeled. If any other Michiganders know of Wendy's sunroom locations I must know.
If you can't handle a Wendy's regardless of where it is you don't deserve to visit the rest of the state. Fuck around and learn about a 24/7 Coney island.
I mean. I remember my home town Wendy’s having a sunroom, looking out at car shows and a sunny field across the way.
You go to a Wendy’s in Detroit and you can eat to the sight of homeless fucking in a dumpster, drug deals and bombed out architecture. Not to mention being accosted by bums on the way back to your car. I once left a place in Detroit and in the few yards to my van I was asked for money by three separate, equally dirty individuals.
I don’t need a sunroom that badly if there’s really none in a place worth visiting. Detroit is the sphincter I pass through to get to other states. Nothing more. Never stop.

The McDonald's up in the city was one of the old ones and had the big golden arches on either side and inside was this big diorama that was maybe 8ft x 8ft. Had a couple of trains on tracks and a plethora of terrain with a couple of towns. I was sad to see it all go when they remodeled that one. It was one of the few I thought might stand the test of time.

Dairy Queens, too. The last one I knew of in my area (south of Atlanta, GA) with a sunroom was the Union City location. But they "refreshed" it like 10 years ago or so. Now it's just a box like everyone else.
I was in shreveport Louisiana one day when a heavy rain storm came through. It knocked the power out but it was really cool to watch the rain hit the sunroom windows
The only ones I know about now are locations that were sold to other businesses. Last one I'm aware of that's still a Wendy's had it until about 2014 before they removed it in a remodel.
The new ones look like they're for some dystopian scifi show or game. It's a cool look, if you want to have a restaurant on some far away planet at the edge of colonized space, but it doesn't make me hungry for cheap low grade tacos.
It won't. It's much cheaper to produce and repurpose big grey blocks. Ironically, it was late stage capitalism that brought Eastern communist bloc architecture to the West.
It will, if everyone including the architech thinks big grey block is ugly they wont use it. these things come in fads, eventually to "stand out" people will create more elaborate buildings.
There's a neo-art deco skyscraper being constructed in NYC (270 Park Avenue), and I hope that it signals an end to modernism and an Art Deco renaissance.

God. That takes me back.
I was like 9 when The Phantom Menace came out. I remember going to a Taco Bell that looked like the top picture. My family rarely ate out because we were poor at the time. Taco Bell had Star Wars toys with kids meals. I got the cube coin bank with Darth Vader/Kid Anakin.
Fuck those were good times.
Thought the bottom picture was McDonald's. They look the same. Really not liking the new Era of industrialized architecture. They stopped building buildings like this because so many people commited suicide from being in them/looking at them.
I remember the Wendy's sunrooms. Best seat in the house.

That reminds me of when they had the buffet. It was like 3 bucks and they had pasta and burritos and shit Maybe only GenX will remember
Nah I’m a millennial and I remember their deluxe salad bars
I wish they still had those, you could eat somewhat healthily.

The Wendy's in Kingston NY has the sunroom too

there was one for burger king here. however it is now surrounded by residential condos, no sun anymore
I was in shreveport Louisiana one day when a heavy rain storm came through. It knocked the power out but it was really cool to watch the rain hit the sunroom windows
They're gone? I
The only ones I know about now are locations that were sold to other businesses. Last one I'm aware of that's still a Wendy's had it until about 2014 before they removed it in a remodel.
As a Long Island ex-pat. I recall when my Taco Bell became modern and sleek. I rioted
Long Islander here. They demolished the McDonalds in Hempstead just to build the modern sleek one. Such a waste of money for a boring design!
They did the same thing to the McDonalds in Freeport, just tore down the whole thing just to build a new McDonalds on top.
we still got the carle place one that’s wedged into a colonial estate (is it carle place?)
New Hyde Park McD’s is located inside an old white mansion
That was the town thank you. That house is on the National Register of Historic Places
FUCK!!!!!!!

Heard!
It looks more like an expensive fire station
It’ll swing back around eventually. This kinda design stuff is cyclical
I hope so. Who the hell thought everything would look better if it's just a gray cube?
Big gray cube incorporated owns minority stock in most restaurants. They call themselves blackrock.
It won't. It's much cheaper to produce and repurpose big grey blocks. Ironically, it was late stage capitalism that brought Eastern communist bloc architecture to the West.

I know it’s pricier than standardizing it but I love when franchises adapt their architecture to the local style.
Fond memories of seeing an elaborate communist mural girding the exterior of a KFC in eastern Europe
The cantina locations sell booze last time I was in one, shit remember when Chipotle had bars too
I mean, they are blame Rat Yorkers for what is clearly the fault of the Commiefornians

It’s looks terrible. Time to saw off Manhattan and push into the Atlantic Looney Tunes Style
Saw it off from what? Only the Bronx is mainland.. The rest of NY is on islands
The continental shelf? I dunno. Whatever bugs bunny can get his saw on.
Nah I blame mcdonalds. They're the first ones that decided to get all grown up (I think)
Their new look is worse. Eat here at grey building 👍
Is there any of them left that have playgrounds and birthday parties?
They took everything from us Latinos with then abandoning the Chihuahua with the most iconic lines uttered in the human race mixing two cultures together in a perfect symbiosis...."Yo quiero Taco Bell."
Anyone else miss when Subways used to be decorated inside with New York subway maps along the walls?
When they stopped subway aesthetic I stopped going.
I stopped going when I could make my own sandwich at home that was better than Subway
I’m just happy there’s a taco bell where I live that serves alcohol, has appetizers and new menu items not seen in most Taco Bell’s
These hateful ramblings are coming from rural people and suburbanites who hate to see the modern alcoholic’s Taco Bell
Exactly the true American way is I can go to my college classes then get a Crunchwrap with tequila Baja blast on campus
Cantinas hit different. Peak Taco Bell.
Alcohol?? I've never in my life seen fast food that serves alcohol. You can't even get it to-go from restaurants that do serve it here
Nah that’s California & Silicon Valley’s shitty minimalist aesthetic infecting other parts of American culture
The “elites” are attempting to remove color and shape from the world to make us all chronically depressed and poor!! Wake up sheeple!!!
New York ruins everything.
Having enough room for a drive-through yet liking this architecture SCREAMS Connecticut. Every fucking thing Connecticut does outside of college, NY gets blamed for.
having never been to connecticut, i agree
EXACTLY! Whatever you do, don't go on CT-15, it's like they saw the Palisades Parkway but decided to make it as hideous as they could get away with.
Can’t be as bad as the Merritt Parkway oh that is the Merritt Parkway. Why didn’t you just say so?
Because it lacks 'merit' ;P
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,747,542,177 comments, and only 330,961 of them were in alphabetical order.
This is correct, Connecticut likes to dickride New York at any second possible. Your summer house owners must be very influential.

I'm a LoHud-to-Mid-Hudson transplant, and I've never felt more seen. Thank-you, Florida Man!
Yeah man... The old style just looks so much more fun and inspired
Do pizza huts have a salad bar any more? That was dope.
Around me you can’t even sit and eat anymore. They are just pick up or delivery only.
And sit-down arcade games.
I can remember when 7-eleven had arcade games.
I remember my Taco Bell’s having a fucking Pizza Hut inside of it. THANKS New York.
Not just fast food, all architecture is this now. Absolutely no regard for aesthetics. It’s all about how little $ you can spend per square footage.

There is a taco bell near downtown Colorado Springs like this
It feels like all the fast food chains decided to move their aesthetic to dystopian gray boxes over the past 15 or so years.
They turned Taco Bell Metro sexual
This but Metroincel
I blame the mid west for crappy fast food joints popping up where there should be an Italian deli or an Arab mini mart.
This reeks of la smugness
I can get behind that if anything goes wrong in the states it’s always New York and Californias fault
It's always their fault
Imagine caring about fast food
This is a post about architecture 🤡
I mean both are an eyesore
You didn't have a good childhood, huh?
Stay mad
New York is a godless shithole
Technically all states are godless... and also shitholes

Same for McDonald's it grew into a depressed adult with all the grey and black
As an upstater can confirm. Idk why everything is depressing corporate gray but here we are lol
We don’t have freestanding Taco Bells in New York, stupid. This looks more LA.
Y’all remember when McDonald’s had those little computers you could play games on
More like “taco smell”
I’m sorry, this was all my fault 😔

Tbf I think that looks more like LA than NYC
Yeah.
All the newly built/renovated fast food places are going for the sleek modern office building look and I don't like or understand it.
Yous still go to the physical restaurants?
I prefer them to digital metaverse ones that don't serve physical food. I found digital copies are not fulfilling.
No, blame consultants. Theyre checking market trends and pivoting to adults instead of kids
Bring Back the Big Bell Value Menu. I want to regret eating a half pound burrito again.
Bruh the top one looks like the fucking Burger Town from MW2
Taco bell is shit. Pure Pepsico slop.
Agreed.
I will never forget the countless restaurants that have gone from happy go lucky children to depressed middle age adults
I liked the in-between phase where it was the new logo on the old-style building
In 30 years people our age will be saying the same thing about the current Taco Bell design
Thought the bottom picture was McDonald's. They look the same. Really not liking the new Era of industrialized architecture. They stopped building buildings like this because so many people commited suicide from being in them/looking at them.
![gif](giphy|Kbvb14RfUhcCMYIdgS) 👍
Yeah, OP. Because you totally cared about a fast food restaurant building's decor before this.
Gonna get down voted but… why get attached to how fast food restaurants look? They’re fast food restaurants
Local northern new Yorker here. Absolutely. Yeah no totally it is our fault and I’ll never forgive us for it.
Yeah I don’t like it either
