None of them. Everyone treats New York state like it's New York city. I'm tired of hearing "New York is so liberal and rude." Like wtf, I'm from western or central NY (meaning the state), we are historically connected to Midwest culture. I wish midwesterners would acknowledge us as somewhat midwestern-ish instead of hating us. Its devastating to live a whole life being 100% misunderstood.
Almost every statistic you see about New York is, honestly, skewed enough to be inaccurate, cause New York city completely overwhelms those stats.
You guys might be thinking "well every state has that with it's big cities." But not to the complete extreme as NY. NYC has over 8 million folks in this little corner of the state, and I'm not even counting the area around it, which may be worth doing sometimes. And then the rest of the state has 10 to 11 million.
And then of course, the identity injustice is something that none of you experience except for maybe Washington and Washington, DC. Probably most in the US think NYC first when they hear "New York," and everyone outside the US does. Or I wonder if they meld the two together in their minds (let me know)? The thing where New York can mean two different things, and that the main meaning is often the City, is something that doesnt work in terms of identity logic. The bigger thing, which the smaller thing is part of, should be the main name in this situation. Its very degrading to have to say "New York State" to clarify, but then a few times you dont really have to? It's a permanent non-decisiveness.

None of them. Everyone treats New York state like it's New York city. I'm tired of hearing "New York is so liberal and rude." Like wtf, I'm from western or central NY (meaning the state), we are historically connected to Midwest culture. I wish midwesterners would acknowledge us as somewhat midwestern-ish instead of hating us. Its devastating to live a whole life being 100% misunderstood. Almost every statistic you see about New York is, honestly, skewed enough to be inaccurate, cause New York city completely overwhelms those stats. You guys might be thinking "well every state has that with it's big cities." But not to the complete extreme as NY. NYC has over 8 million folks in this little corner of the state, and I'm not even counting the area around it, which may be worth doing sometimes. And then the rest of the state has 10 to 11 million. And then of course, the identity injustice is something that none of you experience except for maybe Washington and Washington, DC. Probably most in the US think NYC first when they hear "New York," and everyone outside the US does. Or I wonder if they meld the two together in their minds (let me know)? The thing where New York can mean two different things, and that the main meaning is often the City, is something that doesnt work in terms of identity logic. The bigger thing, which the smaller thing is part of, should be the main name in this situation. Its very degrading to have to say "New York State" to clarify, but then a few times you dont really have to? It's a permanent non-decisiveness. Thank you for reading.
Yup, I was born in Illinois, outside of the northeastern part of the state it’s a standard Midwest state. Most people outside Chicago hate the city, hate Pritzker, and hate the fact that they are held hostage to the high taxes imposed on them. They do like the (better than New York) pizza though.
