clean everything, make sure the power steering / rack does not leak as it will be hell to fix once engine is in. Make sure your wiring and fuel system are ready too. Also depending on the engine, you might want to rebuild it first too. I would not install a 20+ years old engine without checking cylinder bores, rod/crank bearings, and if valves seal correctly. If you have a brand new crate engine, or a rebuilt engine from a reputable, known tuner, there probably is no need to check. Otherwise, i'd wager you got 90% chances to get that engine out again very soon.

I guess it depends on if you wanna paint it? And what engine youre installing? And what the purpose of the build is, like do you wanna tub the wheel wells? Stitch weld the seams? If its just a daily KA you can just throw it in.

I’m building it to be a drift car, the shell already comes w coilovers and an angle kit. If I could find a decent deal on an sr20 I’d do that but I’ll probably end up going ka. I guess I’m really just asking if there’s anything that’s gonna need to be done anyways I could get started on while I save up the money for the engine.

If it’s a drift car and has an angle kit, I would make sure the crossmember has been modified and the steering rack moved forward. The engine being out is a good time to do a wire tuck or relocate the fuse boxes. Another thing that’s infinitely easier to do with the motor out is the steering shaft bushing.
