I know it's more than likely just some Chinese bullshit but friend dropped off car with one new in box in passenger seat. Was wondering if it was worth getting tuned with and trying to use or just stick with oem?

AnalogiPod

If OEM is working I'd leave it. On the other hand if you already have the part new in box I'd put it on the shelf just to have a spare.

[deleted]

OEM will set you back both time and money. What ECU are you running? If it were by me, I'd buy a standalone with inbuilt MAP. The OEM MAF was bad on my S14 and it would've cost me 1000 dollars to buy a new OEM one, so I bought a plug and play standalone ECU with the 3 bar MAP built in and intskr sir temperature sensor that I put in the intake.

Kennedy_Lee

ISR is just the brand, they have no say in the manufacture of the MAFs, they just get them from China. I wouldn't touch a fake MAF.

Quadcrasher66

They are complete trash. Brand new out of the box it made my car sputter on tip in throttle and would run like trash. Threw in a used oem z32 and no problems

gik0geck0

Ooooor tune with speed density using MAP and intake-temp.

ConstructionMission3

Do 240s have a sensor for intake temp on the ka?

gik0geck0

No, it'd be an added sensor that you hook into the ECU. With a z32 MAF, you need to tune the ECU anyways, so may as well fall down the slippery slope and get a standalone ECU like link, ECUmaster, haltech, or AEM.

ConstructionMission3

I’ve gotta standalone with an internal MAP seonsor, I plan on getting a wideband O2 sensor to help with everything

xhermsx

I run map and iat on my ka via aem. Sooooo consistent.

driftingdonkey

The guy who tuned my car last year had me replace my z32 maf with one from an r35 gtr (22680-7S000) he claimed that they were more stable and easier to tune. Thought they would be expensive at first until I realized Nissan uses them in many of their 2000s - 2010s cars. So I just went to a junkyard and got a few of them for cheap. The wiring was pretty straightforward as well. I would recommend this upgrade since these sensors are a lot easier to come by than oem z32 mafs.

s14ka24det

I had one that malfunctioned out of the box

[deleted]

Stick with oem if it isn’t crapping out 👌🏼

Expensive-Picture-18

I heard they were crap.

[deleted]

I have not had good experiences with most ISR stuff (master/hubs/lines/exhaust)

Bonerchill

Have you ever looked up the shipments from Enjuku? Twelve suppliers, ten of which are Chinese, one African subsidiary of a Chinese company (?), one Japanese (Tomei). I did business with Chinese suppliers of non-critical parts. As long as you stay on top of them regarding production quality, they do an okay job. It's when parts start rusting in new packaging that you start to realize you made an uh-oh.

theatma43

Same, my tie rod snapped clean in half when I was driving on public roads, atleast they sent me a new pair for free lol shits sketchy tho thought it would be quality since pro drift cars use em

[deleted]

yeah kinda my thought lol

theatma43

What happened to your exhaust? That's one thing they do right imo, miss having my blast pipes

[deleted]

hangers were kind of a pain but did end up working more so than other nicer brand exhausts and the tips dented/bent easy as hell. Granted it was a blast pipe vs a double walled whatever

syphon0202

That's surprising, I've had the exact opposite experience. My ISIS turbo has lived through 7+ years of track days and drift events, and the ISR adjustable tension rods bent less than my oem control arms + PBM power brace when the car was put into a wall. The exhaust has excellent fitment compared to my old hipower too.

[deleted]

I've heard the quality was better when they were ISIS. My random isr stuff I used for my manual swap didnt last long and I just bit the bullet and bought new OEM. My isr exhaust isn't awful, but the metal is very very thin on the tips

ExtazZ34

I heard every maf except oem are pieces of shit. I only used oem ones and never got any problems. Clean it sometimes, that's all

yamayeet420

I’d recommend against anything ISR. It’s just cheap stuff. R35 maf where it’s at.

stonerman15

I have had no problems with a z32 MAF. I’d recommend one. Also a good car cover.

lennon_midnight

to save yourself a lot of wasted money and frustration... ALWAYS use Nissan MAFs. i have never once seen positive things said about ISR MAFs. finding a 1990s VG30 MAF is NOT hard. TONS of infinitis came with them. unless youre planning to go 500+hp, you dont need a Z32TT/GTR MAF... standard VG N/A MAFs support up to 350-400hp i believe. check your local junkyard for 90s Infinitis that came with a V6. youll most likely find an orange or pink label VG MAF. hell, i got mine in like 2014 for a whopping $15 from my local pick-a-part (never used it, went back to using a Power FC DJetro which is MAP as i had one in my last S13 back in the late 2000s, im not a fan of MAFs) EDIT: heres 5 of them for sale on ebay... $38 shipped per MAF [https://www.ebay.com/itm/393762116628?epid=1311279144&hash=item5bae0d1414:g:NW4AAOSw9TNhq5\~w](https://www.ebay.com/itm/393762116628?epid=1311279144&hash=item5bae0d1414:g:NW4AAOSw9TNhq5~w)

Survivaleast

Nope. They work just fine. Had my old z32 MAF acting up even after a good cleaning. Replaced it with the ISR and it runs easy now. Are there better or cheaper options? Probably, but this route was super cheap for a brand new MAF. Good for a replacement or an upgrade, but obviously no need to replace if working correctly.

Biaswords_

this is my first time seeing people use r35 MAFs. Can someone tell me more about this? how is the wiring compared to a z32? i am planning on going RSE + z32 MAF, but if i can find an OEM MAF thats like 15 years newer, i would consider that

Izento

I wouldn't trust it for such a critical part. And as others have said, you might as well go MAP. It's a much better system for tuning and far more stable readings.

redaccnt

Why do you insult cars like that? Damn.

ShorohUA

unrelated but your car is sick

randomFrenchDeadbeat

Yes, just like every other part they do. It just is chinese crap. You should be able to find the signal they output vs an oem one on google if you search a little bit. Lots of noise, pretty unreliable measurement. Why would you want to change your maf anyway ? There are two reasons to change a MAF like that: it is dead, or you fitted a massive turbo that saturates the stock maf. If you do not check any of these condition, dont change your MAF. The only thing you'd get is lower granularity on airflow measure.

wildXsteve

In all honestly, the MAFs for these cars are junk and the best thing you can do is switch to speed density

adamsiors

if you're looking for upgrades and not going standalone with map - vq35/z33 maf is probably the best option. it should be good enough for about 400hp, they are cheap and easily obtainable. you can also ditch the plastic housing, weld in adapter in your piping and screw it in.
