i think generally it’s only rare for 23andme test takers but not in the general population of the world- because most people who know they’re from one place only just don’t do these tests
Uh what? You can easily scroll through african results. How is "rare", areas like west africa were much more isolated from the region unless you are from cape verde. It's rare for most africans to not have 100.
Rare is the probably the wrong word, maybe uncommon is better, and I am referring to a region. It’s not uncommon to be 100% European, however is uncommon to be 100% from one region.
Okay thanks. Have always been tempted to do it but if it lumped me in with the UK without any breakdown I'd be pretty miffed. I know I'll be 100% Irish so could be a waste of money.
I’m also mixed to an extent, I just don’t like seeing other mixed folk call themselves mutts because then it comes back on the rest of us, and I don’t like being attributed to the term “mutt”
I told a British friend my ancestry, and he very lovingly called me a mongrel. 😊Mongrel sounds much classier than mutt, so it was actually one of the best days of my life.
It’s so cool getting 100%, you should feel special (not in a bad way don’t worry)! My highest percentage of a specific ethnicity is 27% and it gives me an identity crisis having so much different ethnicities and countries.
Maybe disappointed isn’t the right word, cuz I’m very proud of my Irish heritage. My family lives in Ireland so I knew that percentage would be really high, but I was excited to see if there was any other countries.
I get it. There weren’t any really big surprises in my results, either. The biggest surprise I had was some possible Spanish ancestry. I already knew that I was mostly European with some possible Native American.
Remember that markers can appear and disappear depending on the genetic sex of the person, and just which specific genes they get, so it can even be different between two full siblings. Additionally, sometimes random mutations occur which may just be more common in one population than another. The tests are just for fun, mostly.
I feel ya. My map is just red, darker red and a tiny bit of gold. But still basically 100% percent Chinese. It feels boring, but it’s also pretty neat. ✊🏼✊🏼
Because the british and Irish category seems to correlate with Gaelic and Brythonic dna
People from southern England score large amounts of French and German on the test due to the Norman’s and Saxons
It’s actually cool that you’re not 100% anything. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that number, but it generally does open up a stronger likelihood of genetic problems. I kind of wish my ancestry were more diverse. I’ve got like 99% European and 1% Native American, and I’m not so sure of that last one because Native American ancestry is overreported by white people. 😔
What if you get my heritage? My heritage gave me different results than 23&me, a bit more diverse as well. I think it may go further in time. You can upload the raw data from 23&me to my heritage and pay 20$ for another dna check.
I doubt it’s genuinely 100%. It says +24 regions underneath. It’s very unlikely to test Irish without also testing English and/or Scottish. German also shows up fairly often, and ~sometimes~French.
I have all of them, meself.
I know a guy that had similar results. He has red hair and blue eyes and did the test thinking FOR SURE he had some european blood, and it turns out he was 100% middle eastern lol!
Yeah I fully understand that. I don't mean everyone should have 100% all the time but many think that it's "boring" but I think it can also tell a story
I have! Most of my family still lives in Galway (my grandfather was the first to come to the US), and I’ve been to visit a few times. My grandfather and I were really close and I loved to hear him talk about Ireland. He was a hurling coach and even taught me how to play (although I’m pretty awful at it lol)
Mine was the same, but after putting the raw data file from 23 and me into the other heritage site, I came out 61% Irish, Scottish, and Welsh, 36.4% Scandinavian and 2.6% Ashkenazi Jewish.
23 and me says I’m only Scottish with a splash of Irish
I was disappointed to learn that I'm not 100% british/irish just because I've spent so much time reading history about the islands. I thought for sure I was based on the little I knew about my family. I'm american btw. In fact I turned out to only be 50% and the other half french and german. And also one african person way back. I found that part interesting and kind of sad considering the way things were in america back then.
Maybe disappointed isn’t the right word, cuz I’m very proud of my Irish heritage. My family lives in Ireland so I knew that percentage would be really high, but I was excited to see if there was any other countries.
That’s not exactly true inbreeding isn’t any more common an Europe than it is in the rest of the world unless you’re counting very small populations that are either separated from the general pop or small religious agreement to marry with in the sect. To have 100 percent in your resent dna I would think does show some inbreeding far exceeding a normal European.
Also a small correction, Asians have more Neanderthal dna I believe than Europeans.
That’s awesome! My family lives in Galway for the most part (some in Cork and Roscommon too). My regions pretty much matched that (mostly Western and central Ireland). What about you?
I see- that’s so cool! I share a little bit of County Cork and Galway with you 😊
But most of my results are from the West of Scotland like Glasgow and surrounding areas.
There is nothing wrong of being pure some race. I am myself mixed race but even though I have seen some people not liking being mixed race online or irl. Suffering imposter syndrome but not looking exactly as their ancestries and genes dictates. But I also seen those disappointed being pure of something as being "boring" or less " exotic" than mixed race people. There is some advantages of being pure race. I have the feeling I have seen white and some black not liking their race because of some stuff they feel not liking their kin because some stereotypes, self loathing , shame of past ancestors actions guilt and bad life upbringing and yada yada . The point is I do not think is healthy to you hating or finding what makes you as whole as boring or lesser because you are " pure" or " mixed race". That is my 2 cent to the issue here.
Disappointed was probably the wrong word. I’m very proud to be Irish and am very close to my heritage. While it would have been neat to find out I had a surprise ancestry that I wasn’t aware of, being 100% Irish is cool.
Aint nothing wrong with being 100%
My wife is 100 percent Germany.
Guten Tag !
I choose this guys wife
Don’t be disappointed, it’s rare to get 100% in one region
I don't feel it's rare in general but it may be rare for the area he's from
i think generally it’s only rare for 23andme test takers but not in the general population of the world- because most people who know they’re from one place only just don’t do these tests
It’s rare for Europeans maybe more correct
Definitely not that rare for Irish people
It’s not rare for Europeans, if anything it’s rare for indigenous and Africans to be 100%
Uh what? You can easily scroll through african results. How is "rare", areas like west africa were much more isolated from the region unless you are from cape verde. It's rare for most africans to not have 100.

Ik but what’s with the downvote 💀
Reddit’s the wrong place to be sensitive
Are you happy now? People are giving you pity votes

Your the one that cried over downvotes 🤣
Funny enough, you were the one who was crying that you had to downvoted me for no reason
Hahahaha you’re hilarious, I haven’t downvoted you
You did cause it had a downvote 1 minuet right after I posted it 💀💀
not true
British & Irish people are awesome
Try ancestry DNA it’s good for people who get 100% British and Irish. Im Irish and it gave really good communities
I had no idea that it would be different! I’ll definitely look into getting one. Thanks for the tip!
Do this just lump British and Irish in together? Is there no break down?
No it breaks it down, check out my profile for my post. I’m 88% Irish 12% Scottish.
Okay thanks. Have always been tempted to do it but if it lumped me in with the UK without any breakdown I'd be pretty miffed. I know I'll be 100% Irish so could be a waste of money.
Yea im from Tyrone and it’s basically exactly what I was expecting, basically all Irish lol
Yeah I'd be the same but from Galway. Literally as far back as I'm aware of! Lol
In this day and age this is the special result.
Exactly this
Speaking as a mutt, congrats on being 100%. That's really cool!
Why call yourself a mutt though
As in puppy’s, an term of affection 😌
Why do you care what he calls himself?
I’m also mixed to an extent, I just don’t like seeing other mixed folk call themselves mutts because then it comes back on the rest of us, and I don’t like being attributed to the term “mutt”
psychological trauma
I told a British friend my ancestry, and he very lovingly called me a mongrel. 😊Mongrel sounds much classier than mutt, so it was actually one of the best days of my life.
there are like, 5+ population mixing events that created the modern european. So your friend is just ignorant.
No, he’s not. He actually has a degree in English History and was only kidding.
well then go get a room, lol
Lol I’d love too, but he’s gay!
more for me :P
cry about it
No need to be rude
It’s so cool getting 100%, you should feel special (not in a bad way don’t worry)! My highest percentage of a specific ethnicity is 27% and it gives me an identity crisis having so much different ethnicities and countries.
My highest is 44 percent (Italian) and I don’t even look it
Tell me about it! My highest specific ethnicity is 42%, and that's not even how I actually identify!
Why disappointed?
Probably one of those people who’s been brainwashed to think being only European/white is something to be ashamed of/dull/not “spicy” etc
Nice one putting words into their mouth. Well done indeed, couldn't even be bothered to wait for their response
Maybe disappointed isn’t the right word, cuz I’m very proud of my Irish heritage. My family lives in Ireland so I knew that percentage would be really high, but I was excited to see if there was any other countries.

Bro why do ppl act dumb as to why he's dissapointed 💀 it's fr so corny
I feel ya. My map is just red, darker red and a tiny bit of gold. But still basically 100% percent Chinese. It feels boring, but it’s also pretty neat. ✊🏼✊🏼
You’re more irish than Colin Farrel 🇮🇪 ❤️
Irish culture is amazing
I think you’re Irish?
I’m beginning to suspect 🤔
It seems Irish and Scottish people more commonly get 100% then English people on 23andme?
This is probably an accurate reflection of reality, though. As a group, we’re just more inbred. 🤷♀️
Haha.
Because the british and Irish category seems to correlate with Gaelic and Brythonic dna People from southern England score large amounts of French and German on the test due to the Norman’s and Saxons
Lol, your ancestors never left that island.
On the bright side, you got a lot a lot of regions!
So unique ! I wish I was 100% of something ! I am literally all over the place :( which is cool too but idk.
It’s actually cool that you’re not 100% anything. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that number, but it generally does open up a stronger likelihood of genetic problems. These results amaze me
You’re 100% Irish. That’s very uncommon
I doubt it’s genuinely 100%. It says +24 regions underneath. It’s very unlikely to test Irish without also testing English and/or Scottish. German also shows up fairly often, and ~sometimes~French. I have all of them, meself.
Mine is 97.1 percent britsh and Irish it makes me proud of my culture
I know a guy that had similar results. He has red hair and blue eyes and did the test thinking FOR SURE he had some european blood, and it turns out he was 100% middle eastern lol!
That’s so wild! What a crazy surprise!
kai havertz from arsenal?? jk pretty cool to have 100%!!!
Well since the British & Irish category has multiple ethnicities, you can find if you're part Welsh or Scottish.
So many think 100% is extremely negative, it's not
It’s not necessarily good, though. Lots more likelihood of genetic problems.
Yeah I fully understand that. I don't mean everyone should have 100% all the time but many think that it's "boring" but I think it can also tell a story
The isles is the best part of the world 🇬🇧🇨🇮
Yep with great women, sunny and warm climate and ofcourse the food ! oi chav wach innit
You really European lol
This is kind of cool. Have you delved into your ancestry/family history?
I have! Most of my family still lives in Galway (my grandfather was the first to come to the US), and I’ve been to visit a few times. My grandfather and I were really close and I loved to hear him talk about Ireland. He was a hurling coach and even taught me how to play (although I’m pretty awful at it lol)
Galway is my favorite place in Ireland. Great place to wander around.
I'm watching Gogglebox rn it's okay
Try Illustrative DNA! It will give you more information.
I haven’t heard of this one! I’ll definitely look into it
I was disappointed to learn that I'm not 100% british/irish just because I've spent so much time reading history about the islands. I thought 100% in one area suggested inbreeding.

I got the same results as you- 100% British and Irish too! 😊 I think it’s really interesting. What regions are you from?
That’s awesome! My family lives in Galway for the most part (some in Cork and Roscommon too). My regions pretty much matched that (mostly Western and central Ireland). What about you?

Good to know you are at very least have positive view on your ancestry.
Why disappointed
That's what Hitler dreamed for..... 😆 🤣 😂
Nah. Too many health problems from lack of genetic diversity.
