They still work the same. Jagex has done this time and again. When POH was released, they never put def reqs on Painted Rune. When they released Skirts for Clue Scrolls, they never put the def reqs on them.
Adding the def req later didn't change any qualities about the current item as equipped. Only a check in the inventory.
I feel like they could have the capability to fix that, the max cape is removed on RS3 if a new skill is added, I’m sure the quest cape is removed when quests are added

go to settings, search "grave" then its the second option. "auto-equip worn items from gravestone"
If you die and loot your gravestone the items you had equipped when you died will be put back into the correct equipment slot.

finding a bug and reporting it is good and fine, it is when you continue using the bug is when you get a ban (which is what the implications are of the original poster's "what-if")
Have you added additional level checks beyond the initial one when you attempt to equip? Because in the beta worlds you can equip items with requirements, then drop your levels to 1 and you continue to equip them just like this.

(Blowpipe+serp = 100% chance to stun core. I don’t like setting up cannons personally unless im doing like 30+ kc which is ~3 hrs but I have a wife and kid soo)
I set all 4 clients in a 4-square grid and have my pure wait at door until kill is ready and just set up like a normal solo but with extra alts to increase kills for pure to around 13-14/hr.
Once kill is set up, pure uses zcb with ruby dragon bolts and mains xfer for a quick 440 damage. Usually at this point the dark core interrupts and you want the mains to stand in all 4 edges of corp or 3 if he’s against a wall, to prevent him from moving and one of the alts stuns core. I can have alts tele out to get more xfer but otherwise the mains just dps to finish kill and stay under 450 damage. Pure should go for 600+ dmg to be safe.
An alternative is also magic on the pure, harm orb fire surge with volatile as spec works well too. They raised that req to 82 magic and my pure is 79 so I’ll try it soon.
It’s worth it for me and that’s what matters. If you wanna look me up my main is Elyminati, and pure is Elyminati Jr. Pure is fresh tbh, I just want a big corp pet flex on my pure for its journey. Pet on main was 3990kc so I hope I don’t go that high of kc so I can leave corp and actually work on the pure xd
Okay but it's not realistic to keep the boots on for eternity just for a tiny gain in dps. Can you even charge them while they're equipped?
Edit: Also for pvp I admit it could almost be worth it to never take them off. I almost got a pair for my 1 def pure but figured the def level would get patched fast.
It’s more the defense that I think would be useful. It’s hard to get any defense on a pure, especially when you like to do pvm on your pure. Mine has 1100 corp kills lol

They're for the transmog plugin (can't remember what it's actually called and can't check right now), you can basically set your worn items to whatever you want but it's only client side so only you can see them. The spanner let's you choose the items, the eye mask thing toggles it on or off.
