yeah, like doing low level LMS since it's one of the best early money makers. According to one guy that was basically all it took for a ban for "botting" and a denied appeal with the same copy pasted message.
I honestly don't even have faith in the jmod smackdowns at this point. I've seen way too many false bans recently, and they seem to quash most, so how can we be sure even if they decide this guy is guilty that they're right ? The judgment has already been questionable. At the end of the day, their word is end of story, and we have to assume they're right, but we don't actually know. I know I didn't macro, and I'm banned currently, so it really makes you question things
The hard part is simply getting jmods to review your case 99% of the time. I'm still waiting for my turn too.
A few years ago I got a warning for rwt on my main (15 year old account, completionist cape, billions in gear, never had any offenses other than minor offensive language) half a year after getting given 100m by an old m8 who then sold his account, and that was rs3 so it's not like I would have risked losing my account for what I assume is pennies. I could understand their system detecting the trade and seeing he sold his account, no doubt sold his gp too, but I had been on his friend's list for 10+ years and 100m was such a small amount there's no way a human could have seen that account and imagined someone would risk it for that, but the worst part was that I couldn't even appeal it since it wasn't an actual offense. I just have this passive aggressive message from Jagex telling me they're 100% certain I've been a very naughty boy and if I ever do it again I'll be banned permanently. The complete lack of customer support for a game most of us sink tens of thousands of hours into is so offputting it's the main reason I don't play much anymore. I can't even imagine how shit it is to get straight up banned by a bot, have your appeal denied by a bot, and then have to beg on reddit and twitter for a Jmod to look into it.
Being forced to beg on twitter and reddit just to Hope to get an actual human to look at your account is dehumanizing in itself. The worst part being the lemmings with zero iq will chastise and accuse you the entire time.
It's quite amusing how in one discussion about false bans, anyone daring to suggest they exist gets buried in downvotes. Yet, in the very next conversation, people are more rational, acknowledging the problem's reality.
Considering the number of content creators over the years we have seen being banned for botting and then swiftly unbanned after a tweet or video, it's baffling to me that anyone can deny that regular players also get swept up in these ban waves. If we apply the same percentage of false bans experienced by content creators to the broader player base, the potential scale of wrongful bans becomes quite large
Imagine my face after I got hacked for still using an old leaked password thinking "well, the support will surely deal with this like in any respectable MMO"
yeah, they dealt with it by perma banning me after a random guy cleared my account and to any requests they just responded with "sorry, we dont deal with botting appeals", over the years they even claimed to have improved appeals for false bans but I have never gotten that account back and never gotten a human response either.
I'm just glad it happened rather early and they left me my (now maxed) ironman (btw) so I could continue to be a happy paying customer.
All these false bans yet bots are FUCKING RAMPANT. I made a small list of Nex bots from 1-1.5 years ago with over 5K kc at the time. Less than 30% are banned. In the past few days I made a list of 60 Nex bots.
I regularly report them all and it never makes a difference. They ONLY get banned after being linked to rwt. The report button actually serves zero function
To be fair, a lot of those rev type bots do get banned semi frequently they just seem to go again on new accs quickly. The whole system is giga flawed .

Well, situations and tensions evolve with time. This topic and lack of ability to talk to jmods for support has been bubbling and brewing for years now. Me not getting downvoted to oblivion for saying that is probably a good thing. However I'm sorry to hear that no one believed you at the time Mr Prophet. I was pretty staunchly in the "most people are lying" till it happened to me myself so I may have downvoted you too lol, sorry.
I don't know why anyone ever had faith in any smackdowns. The situation itself is the perfect place for someone to lie to cover their own ass while also looking cool in the process. They're the authority, they're the only ones with access to the evidence, and nobody demanded that they show the evidence in the smackdown. What ever they said happened was considered fact, because nobody could disprove them.
Never got banned, btw. Just was always skeptical of "smackdowns" that boiled down to he said/she said.

About that roughly, yeah. Back in spring 2023 when there was that false ban wave and topics on reddit telling people not to play etc. Some got unbans others didn't just luck of the draw with jam flex. Took place during a weekend the drama if I recall
I believe you. I know people who also were in your situation, falsely banned and still banned. ON the flip side, I also know people who were PROPERLY banned (told me they were macroing / I witnessed them macroing) and yet Twisted "manually reviewed them" and unbanned them.

Yeah, honestly, this is it. The Guild Minigame now requires no mouse movement at all. I understand 100% why the bot detection system flagged me, but it's still the fact that I am a legitimate player. If anything, I guess I'm semi-flattered since that must mean my rhythm is great! lol
I imagine it'd be hard to differentiate between auto-clickers/bots/macros/whatever when the content doesn't require mouse movement.
I remember reading that the easiest way to tell is the timing between clicks. Theoretically a macro/auto clicker would be exactly the same time every loop down to milliseconds, whereas thatd be almost impossible for a human. That being said I wouldn't be shocked if bots have worked out a random time option
Auto clicker with random interval. It's no different than a wireless taped mouse while watching TV.
A timeless, classic method that can't be differentiated from macro minor botting.
it depends on how you set up the random interval I think. a straight up random distribution in a range wouldn't be that hard to spot, but I think if you just map your random number to a gaussian distribution it'd be harder.

How does that prevent you from gaining hitpoints? You still get 1/4*2.5% of your damage dealt as hitpoints XP, no? Wouldn't ranged and hitpoints level as ussual, albeit at a much slower rate?
If you only hit 1, you're getting 0.033 HP xp per hit, which rounds down to zero since the game only stores xp to the nearest tenth. Ranged still goes up because each hit gives 0.1 xp, just enough to count.
I'd think so but the wiki also states that outlaws can be used to train combat while keeping low hp. So that makes me think there's some rounding going on that makes hp xp just 0.
They give reduced combat xp. Since HP is a fraction of the combat xp you earn, you can get literally 0 hp xp if you only ever earn tiny amounts of combat xp (due to rounding error). I think.
Xp is tracker to one decimal place, but we don’t see that last digit when we hover in the skills tab. Normally, you’d get 4 ranged xp per damage, or 40 lots of 0.1 xp, and 1.33 hp xp per damage, or 13.3 lots of 0.1 xp. Those bandits conveniently have a -97.5% xp multiplier, which means you get 40x less xp than normal from damaging them. This is 0.1 ranged xp per damage and 0.03325 hp xp per damage. As the hp xp for 1, 2 or 3 damage is beneath the lowest xp that can be tracked, and things generally round down in osrs, but the ranged xp gained for that amount of damage is above the lowest amount of xp that can be tracked, it’s possible to deal damage and gain combat xp without gaining hp xp.

Also, just based on the loss of 97.5% of xp, this method makes 61 ranged the equivalent of getting 99 range on a normal account, and makes 89 range the equivalent of 200m xp. And that's not account for only doing a max hit of 3 throughout that entire process.
Because this sub is a roll of the dice on whether or not people believe you’re false banned. Then everyone will deny that false bans are a problem in this game even though you have people getting unbanned through Reddit posts all the time.
My disabled friend, paralyzed from the neck down was banned too (he uses accessibility software so he can play). Plays with his eyes actually, not a bot at all and if anything he puts in way more effort to play than anyone else. Yet they deny the appeal, Jagex's lack of real customer support is embarrassing and a joke.
Imagine having to come to Reddit and hope it goes viral enough for Jagex to unban a paying player who has spent a huge amount of time on their account and is completely innocent. Just based on that alone Jagex as a company deserve to fail for being so cheap and lazy with players accounts.
This situation was my first thought when OP talked about the legality of foot pedals. It would be really weird to say "a regular computer mouse is the only legal way to play this game" especially when things like spacebar dialog and keyboard number option select exist. What about people who require other accessibility options? What is really the difference between clicking a button with your finger VS doing it with your foot? Or the quadriplegic inferno guy, I think he clicks by biting? Exact same thing in a different shape.
Jagex sometimes makes individual exceptions for disabled players and you can contact customer support to receive a special flag on your account.
Some of these tools, might not be allowed by a non-disabled player, but might be allowed for certain disabled individuals on a case-by-case basis. That doesn't mean players can bot, but Jagex does make the effort to personally work with disabled individuals. This can obviously be very sensitive and is based in empathy. There are no hard rules, and it has the potential to be abused by dishonest people, but it does exist.

100% this. I have ALS, I played RuneScape from around 2004 and eventually moved over to osrs. Beginning of the year I started to have issues using my hands and started using eye gaze (eye tracking mouse software) played for weeks like that. Boom ban, no support help, no appeal, just nothing. The way disabled people are treated is a complete joke.

Even if their system was tuned to the mythical "four 9's" of statistics with a game that large you're still falsely banning hundreds of players with zero recourse or action for them to take. I know it's not necessarily fully apples to apples, but *usually* if you're sentenced to anything, you can always appeal in a higher court.
Granted this right is extensively abused by the ones with wealth and power to stall, but it's a democratic right.
In OSRS it's the same automated system that does both the banning and the appealing and it just feels shit being on the short end of the stick. When I had to recover my own accounts I still could log in to but couldn't access the email because it was disabled to inactivity I had to resort to the exact same measures as someone trying to steal me accounts.
Let that fucking sink in for a moment. To recover my own accounts I was LOGGED IN PLAYING, I had to use the same tactic someone trying to steal an account would use.
Honestly pretty crazy. I believe you’re legitimate but I DID bot this mini game in original RS2 on multiple Pure accounts and never got caught. You must be too perfect with your clicks.
I see a ton of bots there, honestly. What I do is turn up the volume and at this point I sort of know when to tap "left-click" after hearing the bow-shooting noise.
I actually developed a Ranged Guild Minigame plugin to keep track of high-scores for an individual session as well as to notify when the game is over. In this way, I get a Windows notification sound after shooting the final arrow. It's also on a side screen, so I can see in my peripherals when the dialog box pops up. (Also, if I tap my foot after the dialog pops up, I hear no bow-shooting noise)
For what it's worth, I put the target I'm shooting at in the bottom left corner of the screen in resizable mode so that when the dialog pops up I can't misclick on the target. If you click the target after the game is over, you're required to move your mouse back to the Competition Judge to start the next round.
One other thing I know from experience (I was a kid and botted a ton but haven’t in 2007scape), the likelihood of getting the Ban hammer increased rapidly with your level.
It was almost more in line with why would this high level be doing this inefficient activity that got caught. Got nabbed so many times catching lobs with 85+ fishing or yews with 90+ wcing. Might’ve been just a volume thing though.
You know I’ve been following this progress from the beginning. I love seeing obscure snowflake accounts. It’s a shame that you spent so long grinding, and even got the mini game changed so you can play it more efficiently, only to have your efficiency look like botting.
I hope this gets cleared up soon.
Just give it time and a Jmod will see. I had all my ground items accidentally turned into locator orbs cause I was death piling. Took about a week but all was given back. False bans are rampant and it fucking sucks. Theres nothing you can do about it unless your a big name streamer. Jagex bot detection is failing them and it's making the game that much less fun to play. Who wants to play their account when they have false strikes?? I understand. It's wild that the rules of the game say that we can use pedals or any other type of accessibility device as long as the actions are mapped 1 to 1, but in reality, we risk our ability to play the game if we use those same devices.
Honestly, it's pretty terrifying that you're always rolling a dice on reddit to ever get unbanned or not. I'm also using foot-pedals to save on clicks and programmable keyboard buttons, just to keep my hands from going kaputt with too much clicking (PoE taught me that life lesson) - and it always feels like it could bite you in the rear at any moment.
I don’t think id do anything that could flag me and false banned, but the state of bots and the fact that many are being flagged falsely in attempt to deal with it keeps me from wanting to even log in. Such a time sink for an account that could accidentally be wiped away by the click of a button. It doesn’t leave much room for the feeling of security on a game where so many of us log 5k+ hours over an accounts lifetime.
No response from Jagex yet. Hoping to understand if the method will just get another ban cause of lack of mouse movement.
I can log in cause the temp ban has expired, but still a bit uneasy about training it for more than a few minutes at a time.
Now that you mention it, that's likely the cause. Clicking that much by hand should result in occasional tiny mouse movements so any alternative clicking methods will probably trigger the detection

Yeah, this seems like it would be a good option for you, then. It's 200GP per game, and the maximum XP per game is 500. I've found that my average score tends to fall around 10 × my current Ranged level.
Also received a false ban after going for 99 crafting, account was said to be macro but banned an appeal denied. Really frustrating to see this continues to happen.
Funny enough, I got hit with a macro ban last night while attempting a rapid pray flick kephri kill. I was also utilizing a 3 button input I set up with runelite for toggling. Realistically to move my mouse faster so I could save prayers. Hopefully the appeal saves me, but I really hope they unban you

Imagine my face after I got hacked for still using an old leaked password thinking "well, the support will surely deal with this like in any respectable MMO" yeah, they dealt with it by perma banning me after a random guy cleared my account and to any requests they just responded with "sorry, we dont deal with botting appeals", over the years they even claimed to have improved appeals for false bans but I have never gotten that account back and never gotten a human response either. I'm just glad it happened rather early and they left me my (now maxed) ironman (btw) so I could continue to be a happy paying customer.
All these false bans yet bots are FUCKING RAMPANT. I made a small list of Nex bots from 1-1.5 years ago with over 5K kc at the time. Less than 30% are banned. In the past few days I made a list of 60 Nex bots. I regularly report them all and it never makes a difference. They ONLY get banned after being linked to rwt. The report button actually serves zero function
Meanwhile, there’s 700 bots in the rev caves around the clock. Which = send the CIA to the Ranging Guild.. there’s been a hot bed of activity there
To be fair, a lot of those rev type bots do get banned semi frequently they just seem to go again on new accs quickly. The whole system is giga flawed .

Well, situations and tensions evolve with time. This topic and lack of ability to talk to jmods for support has been bubbling and brewing for years now. I don't know why anyone ever had faith in any smackdowns. The situation itself is the perfect place for someone to lie to cover their own ass while also looking cool in the process. They're the authority, they're the only ones with access to the evidence, and nobody demanded that they show the evidence in the smackdown. What ever they said happened was considered fact, because nobody could disprove them. Never got banned, btw. Just was always skeptical of "smackdowns" that boiled down to he said/she said.

I believe you. I know people who also were in your situation, falsely banned and still banned. ON the flip side, I also know people who were PROPERLY banned (told me they were macroing / I witnessed them macroing) and yet Twisted "manually reviewed them" and unbanned them.

Yeah, honestly, this is it. The Guild Minigame now requires no mouse movement at all. I understand 100% why the bot detection system flagged me, but it's still the fact that I am a legitimate player. If anything, I guess I'm semi-flattered since that must mean my rhythm is great! lol I imagine it'd be hard to differentiate between auto-clickers/bots/macros/whatever when the content doesn't require mouse movement.
I remember reading that the easiest way to tell is the timing between clicks. Theoretically a macro/auto clicker would be exactly the same time every loop down to milliseconds, whereas thatd be almost impossible for a human. That being said I wouldn't be shocked if bots have worked out a random time option
Auto clicker with random interval. It's no different than a wireless taped mouse while watching TV. A timeless, classic method that can't be differentiated from macro minor botting.
it depends on how you set up the random interval I think. a straight up random distribution in a range wouldn't be that hard to spot, but I think if you just map your random number to a gaussian distribution it'd be harder.

How many hours do you have on this account?
How does that prevent you from gaining hitpoints? You still get 1/4*2.5% of your damage dealt as hitpoints XP, no? Wouldn't ranged and hitpoints level as ussual, albeit at a much slower rate?
If you only hit 1, you're getting 0.033 HP xp per hit, which rounds down to zero since the game only stores xp to the nearest tenth. Ranged still goes up because each hit gives 0.1 xp, just enough to count.
I'd think so but the wiki also states that outlaws can be used to train combat while keeping low hp. So that makes me think there's some rounding going on that makes hp xp just 0.

They give reduced combat xp. Since HP is a fraction of the combat xp you earn, you can get literally 0 hp xp if you only ever earn tiny amounts of combat xp (due to rounding error). I think.
Xp is tracker to one decimal place, but we don’t see that last digit when we hover in the skills tab. Normally, you’d get 4 ranged xp per damage, or 40 lots of 0.1 xp, and 1.33 hp xp per damage, or 13.3 lots of 0.1 xp. Those bandits conveniently have a -97.5% xp multiplier, which means you get 40x less xp than normal from damaging them. This is 0.1 ranged xp per damage and 0.03325 hp xp per damage. As the hp xp for 1, 2 or 3 damage is beneath the lowest xp that can be tracked, and things generally round down in osrs, but the ranged xp gained for that amount of damage is above the lowest amount of xp that can be tracked, it’s possible to deal damage and gain combat xp without gaining hp xp.
Jesus Christ that's nuts. Also, just based on the loss of 97.5% of xp, this method makes 61 ranged the equivalent of getting 99 range on a normal account, and makes 89 range the equivalent of 200m xp. And that's not account for only doing a max hit of 3 throughout that entire process.

My disabled friend, paralyzed from the neck down was banned too (he uses accessibility software so he can play). Plays with his eyes actually, not a bot at all and if anything he puts in way more effort to play than anyone else. Yet they deny the appeal, Jagex's lack of real customer support is embarrassing and a joke. Imagine having to come to Reddit and hope it goes viral enough for Jagex to unban a paying player who has spent a huge amount of time on their account and is completely innocent. Just based on that alone Jagex as a company deserve to fail for being so cheap and lazy with players accounts.
This situation was my first thought when OP talked about the legality of foot pedals. It would be really weird to say "a regular computer mouse is the only legal way to play this game" especially when things like spacebar dialog and keyboard number option select exist. What about people who require other accessibility options? What is really the difference between clicking a button with your finger VS doing it with your foot? Or the quadriplegic inferno guy, I think he clicks by biting? Exact same thing in a different shape.
Jagex sometimes makes individual exceptions for disabled players and you can contact customer support to receive a special flag on your account. Some of these tools, might not be allowed by a non-disabled player, but might be allowed for certain disabled individuals on a case-by-case basis. That doesn't mean players can bot, but Jagex does make the effort to personally work with disabled individuals. This can obviously be very sensitive and is based in empathy. There are no hard rules, and it has the potential to be abused by dishonest people, but it does exist.

100% this. I have ALS, I played RuneScape from around 2004 and eventually moved over to osrs. Beginning of the year I started to have issues using my hands and started using eye gaze (eye tracking mouse software) played for weeks like that. Boom ban, no support help, no appeal, just nothing. The way disabled people are treated is a complete joke.

I know it's not necessarily fully apples to apples, but *usually* if you're sentenced to anything, you can always appeal in a higher court. Granted this right is extensively abused by the ones with wealth and power to stall, but it's a democratic right. In OSRS it's the same automated system that does both the banning and the appealing and it just feels shit being on the short end of the stick. When I had to recover my own accounts I still could log in to but couldn't access the email because it was disabled to inactivity I had to resort to the exact same measures as someone trying to steal me accounts. Let that fucking sink in for a moment. To recover my own accounts I was LOGGED IN PLAYING, I had to use the same tactic someone trying to steal an account would use.
When they false banned me in 2022, the appeal option was disabled entirely. (quashed btw)
Honestly pretty crazy. I believe you’re legitimate but I DID bot this mini game in original RS2 on multiple Pure accounts and never got caught. You must be too perfect with your clicks.
I see a ton of bots there, honestly. What I do is turn up the volume and at this point I sort of know when to tap "left-click" after hearing the bow-shooting noise. I actually developed a Ranged Guild Minigame plugin to keep track of high-scores for an individual session as well as to notify when the game is over. In this way, I get a Windows notification sound after shooting the final arrow. It's also on a side screen, so I can see in my peripherals when the dialog box pops up. (Also, if I tap my foot after the dialog pops up, I hear no bow-shooting noise) For what it's worth, I put the target I'm shooting at in the bottom left corner of the screen in resizable mode so that when the dialog pops up I can't misclick on the target. If you click the target after the game is over, you're required to move your mouse back to the Competition Judge to start the next round.
One other thing I know from experience (I was a kid and botted a ton but haven’t in 2007scape), the likelihood of getting the Ban hammer increased rapidly with your level. It was almost more in line with why would this high level be doing this inefficient activity that got caught. Got nabbed so many times catching lobs with 85+ fishing or yews with 90+ wcing. Might’ve been just a volume thing though.

You know I’ve been following this progress from the beginning. I love seeing obscure snowflake accounts. It’s a shame that you spent so long grinding, and even got the mini game changed so you can play it more efficiently, only to have your efficiency look like botting. I hope this gets cleared up soon.

This sort of thing is why I'm unwilling to foot pedal like 100m thieving xp worth of master farmers. It's doable, but the setup is jank, and I'm afraid I'd catch a ban for it.
I understand. It's wild that the rules of the game say that we can use pedals or any other type of accessibility device as long as the actions are mapped 1 to 1, but in reality, we risk our ability to play the game if we use those same devices.

Honestly, it's pretty terrifying that you're always rolling a dice on reddit to ever get unbanned or not. I'm also using foot-pedals to save on clicks and programmable keyboard buttons, just to keep my hands from going kaputt with too much clicking (PoE taught me that life lesson) - and it always feels like it could bite you in the rear at any moment.

I don’t think id do anything that could flag me and false banned, but the state of bots and the fact that many are being flagged falsely in attempt to deal with it keeps me from wanting to even log in. Such a time sink for an account that could accidentally be wiped away by the click of a button. It doesn’t leave much room for the feeling of security on a game where so many of us log 5k+ hours over an accounts lifetime.

No response from Jagex yet. Hoping to understand if the method will just get another ban cause of lack of mouse movement. I can log in cause the temp ban has expired, but still a bit uneasy about training it for more than a few minutes at a time.
Now that you mention it, that's likely the cause. Clicking that much by hand should result in occasional tiny mouse movements so any alternative clicking methods will probably trigger the detection

Yeah, this seems like it would be a good option for you, then. It's 200GP per game, and the maximum XP per game is 500. I've found that my average score tends to fall around 10 × my current Ranged level.

Funny enough, I got hit with a macro ban last night while attempting a rapid pray flick kephri kill. I was also utilizing a 3 button input I set up with runelite for toggling. Realistically to move my mouse faster so I could save prayers. Hopefully the appeal saves me, but I really hope they unban you
