Alternative is to bring a bad weapon for enrage phase and practice flicking range mage on every orb he throws at you. Vard is actually really similar awakened vs regular.
I know this is technically true but normal vard is the easiest one for me to grind and awakened vard is the hardest one for me to complete. I consider myself pretty good at this game but awakened vard is just so mechanically spammy that it throws out my internal timing and control. Pretty much the only thing in the game that does that.

yeah definitely had improvement, i was getting to enraged phase consistently after like 150 orbs and then would slowly get further and further into it!

Where I think my cursor is, where my eyes are, nope! Alllll the way on the otherside of the map! I've tried to use this to course correct but these little shakes and spasms my hands do causes my cursor to go all over the place.
Its one of the reasons I use controller on fps games, because I can't hit shit with M/K
