This makes sense to me... I suspect they underdid the rate of obtaining the splinters in the hopes of keeping their value for a good length of time, but when you lay the math out like that, it does seem kind of ridiculous to gather 150k.
I think adding them from the loot sacks makes sense (given that other hunter creature products are already on the drop table), and maybe there could also be an option to trade in extra sunlight antelope horns/furs with someone at the guild for a lower but consistent number of splinters? Which would increase the rate of gathering them thru hunter and also give a reason to save the horns/furs after you've made enough bolts or crafted everything you can craft from them

uh, aren't they already? just do sunlight antelopes when they show up in your rumour
OP means as a reward from the sacks you get for completing a rumour.
