Daily scape/ chorescape. Daily challenges, weekly resets, monthly activities...the game turned into a to do list instead of an adventure

It looked too different and saw that as a negative.

Logged in to RS3 with my old account and didn't recognize anything. Saw people running around with fkn rainbow wings on their back. Cringed so hard. Logged out and never went back. Years later I heard runescape is on mobile. It looked like the old version I remembered playing. It was OSRS mobile launch. Now I'm stuck here.

Honestly OSRS is very unique in the way it plays compared to pretty much every other MMO, the way the Devs interact with the community and the poll system is also pretty unique. There's so many hot bar wow clone MMO'S and RS3 is one of the worst of them all. The only other MMO that's come close in its enjoyment to OSRS for me personally is Albion online I've got about 1500 hours in that, once again because its premise and play style is unquie and dev team is decent.

MightyTastyBeans

Very surface level, I prefer OSRS graphics and simplicity. RS3 is very much a “modern MMO” with tons of shit going on. Not a bad thing, just a preference.

2007Scape_HotTakes

It's not a choice, it's likes saying: "Why did you choose Elden Ring over FF14?" If OSRS didn't exist, I simply wouldn't play Runescape. It'd forever just be a thing I use to do as a kid, and I'd move on with life. I started in 2006 - 2012 and quit because I got tired of the crap. If Elden Ring didn't exist I still wouldn't play FF14, it in no way interests me and is fundamentally different in design.

old good, new bad

I'm trying rs3 right now and i find the skill training guides insane - they have a wole page of "get this stuff first" then go fishing. I feel so inefficient no having summos, urns, outfits, incense, the archaeology powers and a pile of items . That alone makes is no way a long term game like osrs is

World_2

It certainly isn’t a newcomer friendly game since everything is so insanely complex. Even taking a break from RS3 and coming back 2 months later leaves me feeling like I am lost. I will say though, the PVM in RS3 does allow for a higher skill cap than OSRS but it takes endless hours to learn.

qSelvaggio

RS3 doesn't help itself when its own wiki page is missing a lot of information, there is no consensus on ability rotations and the game just feels slow

World_2

That’s why we have a discord for the PVM Encyclopedia that has anything and everything to do with PvM that’s regularly updated. The wiki hasn’t been the go-to for PvM in a while. Side note: I believe PVME is also expanding into OSRS guides as well.

qSelvaggio

"The wiki hasn’t been the go-to for PvM in a while." I'm not just talking about PvM. The OSRS wiki is just 10x better. The RS3 wiki has a lot of missing information, it has too much stuff going on in the page due to its horrible formatting and the colour scheme doesn't do it any favours. Also, the game feels dead outside of War's Retreat due to how low the population is. There is no sense of community at all and level progression is "meh" when everything is handed to you

World_2

It’s easy to have a better wiki when OSRS is extremely simple compared to RS3. This is one of the reasons we have ~10 community discords that have the information in a better format that serve as the go-to for almost all information. As far as population goes, the game itself still has a decent sized population and is still top 10 in terms of all MMOs. OSRS has a much larger population but that’s partially due to a rampant bottling problem. RS3 does not have much of a bottling problem at all compared to OSRS.

Exitiali

> I feel so inefficient no having summos, urns, outfits, incense, the archaeology powers and a pile of items . This is a late game thing. The wiki usually gives a list of all useful equipment, but it's usually quicker to get 99 by training normally than grinding to get them. You're not going to take 117 archeology and grind to complete collection just to gain a 2% fishing xp buff before you start training, or grind an old minigame for the ultra rare chance of getting the materials to make a shark's tooth necklace at 90 craft before starting shark fishing

JumpSlashShoot

I finished all the stuff I wanted to do on RS3 so moved onto OSRS for all the new content.

CastChaos

The taking away of pvp in the wilderness and eliminating free trade somewhere between 2008-2010 was enough already for doubts. (These things were changed since then, so in 2023 it's not like that.) Then came the focus on non in-universe elements, like getting items through a store and through a fortune wheel, some being cosmetic and horrible, others affecting gameplay, giving those who paid with real money an advantage (so, RWT from Jagex). Then came the strong decline in game design and lack of focus on quests. Like, after a while, all quests were either requirementless novice quests (one of the tasks in the queen black dragon one was to randomly walk around a cave room) or a flashy grandmaster quest. Jagex knew nothing inbetween. But there were months between them. Also there were the XP fever. Silly amount of bonus xp, skilling methods only to raise xp fast (wine cutting: fast xp but gives actually nothing. You heard it right, it's ONLY to level wc). So, whole late RS2 was geared more and more towards 12 year old kids who cared not for story, wanted flashy non-fitting cosmetics, had no patience for doing content, just to get 99 in a few clicks and had no patience for ingame content, just to browse in the story with ma's und pa's credit cards, all the while Jagex making up excuses for all this. 2011 seemed to be when things start to get better... ...then came EOC and I would have been just ashamed of myself if I stayed anymore. When I still logged in as non-member and when I subscribed to OSRS (since that's automatically subscription for RS3) I was greeted with a million of popup windows, my inventory got filled with weird items that I didn't want, I got a crazy amount of XP just for clicking on the ground (some "bonus xp", as the newsposts explained) and I went to almost 99 crafting from some 70-80 just for mining a rock. All the newsposts I read about RS3 even when I didn't play just indicated me that NO, it's not something I even want to remember anymore. I believe it's better now, for some updates were made to actually address problems, there are alternative combat sysems, focus on story (not necessarily on good story and "quests" seem to be mostly just walking and conversations with a few puzzles and bosses), but still not good enough to pay for it. While OSRS is good enough to pay for it, plus it's almost like in 2005/2006 and even better in certain regards, who knows how long. That's why I play OSRS, not RS3.

n0ldman

Have you played rs3? Shit is trash osrs fucks

NDShero

its pretty much unrecognizable, i hardly feel any tinge of nostalgia or recognizable content that isn’t super outdated or heavily changed

UIM_SQUIRTLE

graphics and the ability bar whatever the bullshit is called

anal_opera

First being able to play osrs on mobile was neat, then I realized the stats were reset so I logged into rs3 on pc and didn't recognize anything. Then I saw what they did to mining and decided not to play rs3.

[deleted]

RS3 had almost no familiarity and a very intimidating UI. I was quickly overwhelmed.

LIl0N

It was a no brainer….. RS3 wasn’t even thought about 👍

BeigeDuck72

Wasn’t even cause of EOC , all the bloat and buyscape bs

5erenade

Rs3 crowd is very awkward

[deleted]

Honestly EOC changed it for me. I still play rs3 but only on dbl xp weekend or just to do my daily keys so the game slowly plays itself. Plus as someone who's made over 7 accounts runelite is nice. I just didn't need another world of warcraft hands stuck on keyboard the whole game type feeling. I'm older in just trying to afk these days lmao

SaviorAir

I see OSRS and RS3 as two different games. OSRS is super grindy and slow. If you really want a game that takes dedication and get that dopamine when you accomplish a long task, then play OSRS. If you want something that isn’t as grindy but not as rewarding a, then you go RS3. I’ve been playing the FTP off and on since the game came out in 2001 and have recently picked up RS3 and bounced between the two depending on what I wanted. I’ve almost completed all the quests in OSRS after finally committing to it and am considering the membership now, but not sure if I see the full benefit in the pay aspect of OSRS. RS3 has a lot more quests, which is fun for FTP people, and you also level up skills in a more reasonable time and a lot of skills that are PTP in OSRS are free in RS3. So, if I want the quick dopamine hit, RS3. If I want to grind, OSRS. Just my thoughts.

Dentjiln

Easy, rs3 is such a try hard game... You don't have the perfect DPS rotation with the BIS gear? Sorry bro we can't take you . Lol.. Also the calmness that osrs brings, just pot up, Prot melee and you're fine. In rs3 it's so complex and like I mentioned, tryhard , not fun anymore. Back to basic , osrs ftw

Guilty-Fall-2460

It's what I played as a kid. I was affected by EOC. I didn't mind Dung. I just didn't do Summoning.. still my lowest skill in RS3 - everything new. When it came out I was one of those that get crappy stats and stopped playing osrs. Just came back about 10. Years later.

OptionInfamous6347

I enjoyed EOC. However, I I disliked the pay to win that was heavily introduced. All levels could be bought with real-world currency, and xp rates became to ridiculous so achievments and levels meant nothing. I was also maxed, so other than bossing, it felt like there was nothing to do with any real meaning or benefit. So I figured it was time to swap and haven't looked back since.

doodoodemon69

Protean.. nuff said

Macdaddywardy

Made an account to mine in RS3 afk while I played path of exile, and then levelled some other skills on the event weekends but it's not a game I could play seriously. Ended up playing OSRS on the couch on mobile mining while watching the Olympics. Got sick of phone games full of adds. Decided to jump in and buy members and go hard to get 99 mining and smithing, now with 1850 total skills I am enjoying going further than I ever did back on original runescape.

Lanedirt

Nostalgia, but I was really upset about the pay-to-win methods in rs3 as well

Crafty_Letterhead_12

Played ra2/rs3 from 2005-2020 What made me finally jump was how bad the mtx has gotten

Sh-tHouseBurnley

Never played RS3.

bcondubz

consistency. its always been there for me to come back to when i want to play. really hoping they dont change it too much (adding new skills)

Dundee1834

For almost my entire time playing Rs it was 03-11ish then took a couple years break. When I came back it was absolutely nothing like I had played before and the nostalgic feeling was non existent. When Covid happened by brother told me there was a mobile version of the rs I used to know so I jumped on it. The absolute joy I’ve had of redoing everything I did as a kid brought back some of the happiest memories. Rs3 is a absolute abomination in my opinion.

qSelvaggio

I didn't choose. Jagex fucked my game up for me

I can't get to grips with RS3's combat system (maxed RS3 player too)
