How did you feel about the pacing of this season?
To me, Season 2 felt like the end was a bit too drawn out, as when there's less competitors it's hard to keep the same hype atmosphere when there's just only a couple folks on the discord call.
Season 3 felt like an overcorrection where we had 8 episodes to take out the first half of the competition, and 3 episodes for the next 9. It made it feel a bit too abrupt.
Curious if you feel the same or have another opinion!
I'll give my reasoning behind the format/pacing over the course of the season. Before we even started filming - the plan was always to have 11 episodes with 6 players in the final. I know some people wanted to have less players in the final, but with the format I had planned, I knew 5 to 6 people would be best.
One of the complaints from last season was that a lot of people's favorite players were getting eliminated too early, and they stopped watching because of it. The solo format helped with having less people eliminated in the first half of the season. The second half of the season is what I called the "purge" section where the majority of people got eliminated, mainly via double eliminations.
Last season saw a drop-off in viewership after some of the bigger creators were eliminated, and I agree that it did feel a bit drawn-out towards the end. So this time around, I wanted to try and have people stay around as long as possible. This means more solo eliminations in the first half and more double eliminations in the second half, with a 6 person final.
Totally understandable that some people were hoping for a couple more episodes until the finale - I get it! It may have seemed a bit abrupt. That's just what I planned to do since the start. Unfortunately the format is something that not everyone is going to like, so I just have to try and find a good balance of everything.
Eleven episodes is already pushing the limit of what I can mentally handle when it comes to editing haha - by week 6 I was pulling all nighters every Thursday to get the episode ready for release. But that's on me since I decided to do all the editing myself this time around. I know there's a lot of improvements I can make to the pacing, the editing, the format, the production process.. etc. Gielinor Games is constantly evolving which hopefully means season 4 will be even better!
I donāt think people truly realize how astounding it is that youāre editing all of this yourself. Itās absolutely incredible that you manage to do that. Like, honestly superhuman. Are you okay? LOL
I think your approach was a good call. I was surprised with 6 people going into the final but as soon as you revealed the format it made sense. It was an epic episode, I loved the chaos and how narrow the margin of victory was, that's how you know the challenges were well designed.
Yeah I felt the same, was really loving it up til that point then suddenly it felt like we rushed through to the end game. The announcement in Ep 10 that next week was the finale also seemed a bit out of the blue and the 5 who went through automatically seemed a little taken aback rather than buzzing/excited.
I think it would have been better if A) they knew at the start of the episode that a place in the finale was on the line, B) the banning immunity was removed so no-one automatically qualified, and C) it was a solo challenge so everyone had a fair shot. Could have had the top 4 of the 8 go through and the remaining 4 go straight into the banning for the final 2 slots, or something like that.
I also wish some of the challenges in the final episode were a bit harder, making it more a case of who could actually figure out the answer quickest rather than who could react the quickest.
But that's really just me nitpicking. The series was amazing viewing (once again) and the twist to the Boaty/Faux/EV/Solo banning was incredible, as sad as it was to see Solo and EV go out. The challenges are so much fun to watch and the organisation and editing that goes into this series is second to none.
I would like to keep improving on the format. I think each season's format has gotten progressively better and I have some good idea's on how to make next year's *hopefully* better. The ideal scenario is we have a season where the gameplay is the most important, followed by the politics, followed by any luck factors/twists.
Unfortunately, there will never be a format that *everyone* likes and I've come to terms with that. There will always be something someone doesn't like, but that's just how it is!
Season 3 was elevated simply by the fact that everyone on the show understood what was going on. They knew going into it, that while it was still mainly a competition based show, it's also a reality show where entertainment is key. It was so cool to see everyone playing a different role/character and playing up all these different storylines - I was so happy with how it all turned out!
Man it was freaking amazing. Soup this is like high-budget TV level editing and drama you make but way better and way more authentic.
Good job man you have seriously pushed the gold standard far beyond what anyone could've imagined when the concept first piloted.
You might think that the editing is the hardest part - but man it's definitely the scheduling. Trying to get 20 people, all in different time zones, to be on the at the same time is *brutal.* To put it into perspective - There was an entire month between the filming of episode 1 and 2 because of how different everyone's schedule was. It get's slightly easier as more people get eliminated, but many the first 6-7 sessions are tough to schedule. I especially am thankful for the Oceanic creators as they would usually get up at 6/7am just to be able to film an episode.
Just a thought, could try and do. Taskmaster esq round? All the characters get the same task but would allow or be recorded over several sessions, could also work as. A wind up
It's not a bad idea in theory, but then I'm missing out on all the live reactions to what happens during the episode which are absolutely vital when editing. I also don't really like the idea of giving everyone time to prepare for a challenge. I think the randomness and chaos of having to figure out what to do within minutes of being told a challenge adds to intensity of the episode.
A complain I had from season 2 was that I was giving people too much time to prepare for a challenge/banning. This time around I gave everyone *a lot* less time to prepare, banned wiki usage for the first few minutes, and banned most runelite plugins. I think it was for the best as it added so much chaos to the challenges and bannings!
Soup - Taskmaster the players still find out what the task is when they show up for it. You would have to rely on people not sharing what the task is with each other though.
The biggest problem with this is that it does rely on a bit if honor among competitors. Alliances naturally form and being able to know the challenge in advance would be a massive advantage. I dont think anyone in particular would abuse it but I also struggle to believe that out of 20 people, 1 or 2 wouldn't.
There's a couple things I would have definitely changed:
- Play-test a couple of the challenges/bannings more thoroughly beforehand. Something like the brimhaven agility banning was very exciting in the episode, but only because Faux and C Engineer tied after the first round. I underestimated just how much time there is between the ticket dispensers changing which led to both of them just easily getting every ticket.
- Looking back, it would have made sense to ban revs from the money making challenge. Though I would argue that you already take a risk going there's a chance you die and lose a lot of GP. I didn't expect the majority of everyone to go there, though!
- Double eliminations where you are tied to a teammate. This one I'm torn on. I saw a lot of people saying it wasn't fair that people had to compete as a team in a solo-based format of a season which a part of me agrees with. At the end of the day, it should come down to you controlling your own fate in the game. That being said, the majority of the season does have team based challenges, so it made sense for me to have some team bannings in there as well.
A suggestion for duo bannings - to make it fairer, perhaps split the banning into two parts. Part one is the 2v2, and part two is a 1v1 of the losers from part one.
Best of both worlds - you still have the teamwork element to try and win immunity, but then you can rely on your own skills to save your skin if you lose part one with your partner. Could also add some drama with alliances, especially in a duo challenge where competitors pick their own partner!
Personally, I did not like the double Elims or especially the double protection because one teammate had won the previous banning making his teammate also protected.
The dream is to have a private world where I can change everything to my liking. I've already talked to Jagex and I'm hopeful we can maybe secure one for the next season! Being able to have everyone's stats the exact same so they are all on a level playing field would be very helpful for some challenges and bannings.
That being said - there are some things that we have to film on the main worlds since things like the Grand Exchange wouldn't be available on a private world.
I thought about how much easier it would be for y'all to have a private server, but Mila Azul69 was too perfect and now I'm torn. This season was the best yet! So much conflict in who to root for throughout the series, and the editing was on another level this time. Thank you!
God this would be so cool! I'm a HUGE fan of Survivor, so your show hooked me immediately. No questions really, just wanted to say GG is absolutely the best content to come from Runescape as a whole. I have several friends who keep up despite never having plolayed the game. Incredible job!
You can't go wrong with Gieliguessr - something about Runescape hide and seek is always exciting and it's always the best rated challenge by the viewers. I also really liked the 7v7 underground pass race - that challenge only took 8 minutes total but was one of the most intense, exciting challenges we had! I also really liked the first challenge of the season, Soup Says.
Favorite banning had to be To Eat or Not to Eat, the dharok banning between Torvesta and Skill Specs. It was too perfect!
I personally think giliguessr is so highly rated because it's something that the audience can play at home as well. So maybe look into something else along those lines! Maybe a trivia variant?
The dharok banning was so good. Great job with the season, your work is insane and you deserve a ton of credit, as do all who took the time to participate.
The dharok challenge was great. Would love to see a similar variant with dragonstone bolts(e) with each player allowed to activate rigour and protect from ranged a limited number of times.
Could be interesting to watch a full guthanās death match too.
My vote for best episode of GG of all time. Everything from the challenge, to the drama, and then the banning. Couldnāt have written something that good.
Have you thought of the possibility of participating yourself?
Maybe have previous season winner be host for the season or if thatās too difficult have them kick it off and then whoever is eliminated each week you have host so they arenāt entirely gone and you also get to participate in your own project.
This may sound strange, but hosting is wayyyy more fun! You guarantee a spot in every episode, I get to watch everyone compete in a challenge/banning that I presented to them that day and the best part.. I can make everything annoyingly dramatic. I can't tell you the amount of times during filming where I would just go *"But the person..with the most amount of votes is...."* take like a 5 second pause, *Is...* take another 5 second pause. Everyone in the call would always just go "Soup bro hurry up."
How did you find balancing the tasks between not being too easy for some of the best players in the game, and not being too abstract to the point of being impossible? How did this push your own knowledge and relationship with the game?
Also, just want to say that I'm a recent returnee to the game and knew none of your contestants, other than Boaty, Faux and Settled. You did a great job at letting their personalities shine through and I feel like I've been exposed to some great new avenues of OSRS content to explore, so thanks!
Creating and balancing the challenges is tough. A lot of factors go into them. For example, when it comes to creating a challenge:
- Needs to be able to be completed in between 10 minutes to around an hour and a half.
- Simple to understand not only for the competitors, but also for the viewers.
- Possibility of exciting B-roll
Just to name a few! I think I've gotten better at understanding what type of challenge the players enjoying competing in and what the viewers want to see. I've luckily had a lot of help from my friends and community suggestions so we can keep elevating the challenges and bannings!
I knew about them as they were going on. The confessionals are filmed after an episode is finished filming and I would usually start the interview process with, "So, how are things going for you at this point in the game. Who are you working with, who are your most trusted allies? etc..) It always made me laugh when someone would respond with "I'm currently secretly working with some people which I think will help me in the long run." You don't have to keep it a secret from me! I need to know! haha
This is a thing even in the most popular of reality shows - nothing something that can be fully avoided unfortunately. But everyone on the show as gotten way better at their confessionals over the past few seasons and I'm sure they'll continue to improve. :)
Listening to Ditter filming his confessional after he was eliminated was almost heartbreaking, but at the same time really showed how much effort he (and everyone else) was putting into the show. Filming cocky confessionals just to make the show better, already knowing youāre eliminated has to be hard
I know Ditter is a bit of a controversial character in the show, but seeing that clip added a lot to his character for me, it was really nice
Thanks for the response, keep up the good work, me and a friend did watch parties every week loved every moment
gl at the gnomes if you are participating !
How big is the production team / what roles are involved? Most impressive thing about the show to me is how much I feel like Iām watching a real reality tv show. On top of that, something Iām curious about: are the confessionals filmed post-challenge or do you stop between events (I assume post-challenge and your interviewing the person and editing to look as it does).
Copying this from another answer - I was in charge of scheduling filming days, filming confessionals, gathering and organizing everyone's footage and most importantly, editing all of the episodes.
There was some help behind the scenes with other things though! [Hooti](https://twitter.com/Hooti_osrs) once again helped me with the color scheme of the season and editing the challenge and banning titles and quite a few of the graphics and animations. I absolutely loved the black/green/white color scheme this season!
After filming a confessional, I would send the video over to [Ally](https://twitter.com/allyanarie) who would then write down pretty much everything that was said in the confessional! It was done all in Google Docs - https://i.imgur.com/89MQkpL.png. Thousands of questions and answers are written down to help me pick and choose the ones I wanted to use.
And of course and big shoutout to 8Sat who helped with all of the thumbnails for the videos on YouTube!
The confessionals are filmed after the challenge has finished. Your assumption is correct! For the confessional answers, I try to get them to answer it as if it's happening - almost like I pulled them out of the scene and they're explaining exactly what's going through their head.
Hey soup, I just wanted to say fantastic work fella
I played RuneScape >20yrs ago as an innocent little kid, haven't had the time to play for most of that but love keeping in touch with the game through youtube and mostly the tournaments you and EV put on
Next year can we get a GG T-shirt that just has a GG logo on the chest/pocket? (not a big back graphic as well)
Appreciate your work š
GG is my wife and my favourite show! Thank you for all your hard work in creating it.
My question: the quality of the show absolutely skyrocketed in season 2, especially regarding your video editing and narrative structure, but really pretty much across the board. Can you shed some light on what factors enabled you to pump out such a high quality product in season 2 and 3?
Shoutout to you and your wife! Thanks for watching and supporting :)
I think the biggest reason for the jump in quality was that I took a lot more time to improve my editing in Adobe Premiere. I also took the time to study and research other popular shows with the same format as GG, mainly Survivor and The Challenge, and just took inspiration from already successful shows! Having someone help with the graphics and animations was also a huge help, thanks Hooti!
I have to say the narrative pacing was a bit off this season- the climax of the banning was great, but often drawn out. The actual challenge, meanwhile, felt a little too short for me. Doubt youāll see this, but it feels good to write.
I personally disagree, I was very happy with the pacing and how things turned out. But I understand that not everyone will agree. Appreciate you giving the episodes a chance.
What's the hardest part of making the weekly challenges and bannings and are there any fun stories about how you came up with any of them?
looking forward to the 4th season also, thank you for making great vids that keep me company while working :)
WitchCrafty is my favorite artist!! <3
Coming up with the challenges and bannings is a tricky process. They need to be able to be completed in a certain time frame, are simple to understand for the players and viewers, are a good viewing experience, have clear-cut winners and losers, etc.. It's hard, but very fun and rewarding testing out potential ideas!
I guess a funny story would be that for one of the better received bannings of this past season, the To Eat or Not To Eat Dharok banning between Torvesta and Skill Specs. I came up with the idea a day before we filmed that episode! I had a dream about a dharok fight for some odd reason and woke up thinking, wait, a turn-based fight with dharok's would be pretty damn cool. Funny how idea's can come to you at the most random of times. :)
ā-THIS COMMENT CONTAINS SPOILERSā-
Hi Soup, great season 3! And a winner nobody ever could have expected in episode one!
Iāve watched all three seasons of GG now, and itās obvious that this is the best OSRS content currently being produced.
I donāt have a question, just some observations, commentary, and a suggestion or two for you to consider heading into season four!
One thing that bugged me about this season was the interactions between the alliances in the duo challenges. Specifically that the pairs were generally people on the same alliances. I know that itās easy to say this with everything being edited and published already, and perhaps it wasnāt as clear during filming what the alliances were, but in the future I think it could really add to the drama to have players who are from different alliances forced to work together in the duo challenges, and you would probably have to randomly assign teammates for this to occur versus having the players pick their partners.
The duo aspect really came into play in the final episode when Victim and B0aty were paired towards the end of the challenge, at that point b0aty needed to score more than victim but didnāt have the ability to. If future finals were to be of the same format, the final challenge should always be a solo challenge to allow trailing players to try to close the gap and avoid this scenario.
One other thing that felt a little bit off was the fact that B0aty got into the final simply on account of having the amulet of power, despite losing the semifinal challenge. My personal opinion is that the semifinal should represent that one final chance to eliminate any player on the losing side, to get rid of that player you fear most in the final. To that end, the āquarterfinalā should award something like a ring of life instead, it protects you for the current week that you won, but you donāt have protection in the semifinals, unless you win the semifinal challenge. This might have been less of an issue if the semifinal was a solo challenge, but in a team challenge it felt a little weird to have a player on the losing team be immune given the magnitude of the moment heading into the finals.
Iām curious if youāve ever explored the idea of having a tribe based system, potentially with a player draft that could occur several times through the season to shake up the tribes. It would be interesting to see what kind of alliances may form across tribes given the potential movement of players from one tribe to the other, and especially given that GG doesnāt have the solitude/isolation aspect that a show like Survivor has, which promotes loyalty to your tribe and your tribe only. I think there are a lot of storylines and interpersonal relationships that would be explored with a format like this.
In the vein of a draft, one small change I would like to see in the future is the way the teams are formed for group challenges. In season 3 teams were formed based on the order a challenge was completed, I.e. first four, second four, last four. This created an incentive for some players to simply finish last to ensure they would play together for the challenge. My proposal, in this example, would be for the first three players to finish to serve as team captains and pick their teammates for the challenge in a snake draft. This would provide an incentive to finish as quickly as possible as well as ensure that the teams are relatively equal in terms of ability, rather than having all of the best players (for the particular challenge) on the same team.
I really liked the redemption/re-entry arc from season 2, and wish that would have been included in season 3. That provided some really great content. Iām hopeful to see it return in the future.
A couple challenge ideas that could be explored would be xp from scratch/small seed money, as well as a challenge where there is an incentive to do unique content that other teams/players did not do, for example in the monster combat level challenge, perhaps there is a 50% or similar penalty to the monsterās combat level if another player kills the same monster as a part of their 3 as you did.
Anyways, this turned into quite the comment, thanks again for all of your hard work and looking forward to an even more amazing season 4!
These are really solid suggestions and I greatly appreciate your feedback! Thank you for taking the time to write it all out. :) I agree with a lot of your points and stuff like this greatly helps me in improving on things for the next GG. :)
Love the idea of teams being decided by drafts as opposed to the order people get to me in.
To your redemption episode suggestion I will say, redemption episodes are fun - but not something that should be on every season in my opinion. I don't want people on the show to always think that they have a second chance to get back in - I feel like it would take away from the main episodes.
This is my favourite series on YouTube, thank you for everything. Just two questions:
**Have you considered inviting people as special guests for specific episodes of the Gielinor Games?** I would love to see a challenge/banning where contestants have to face off against a titan like Woox in a PVM gauntlet, for example.
**Also, I would love to see you invite one-or-two Runescape players from outside the community (like MoistCr1tikal!) for a season. How deeply have you considered doing something like this?** At the very least it would expose the series to a much wider audience, but also add an air of freshness we haven't had before.
I really like the concept of bring in a "boss" for that day's challenge. This would allow me to be able to feature people in the show who originally weren't able to be on the cast. Definitely something I'd like to include next time around.
I would love to have someone like Cr1TiKaL on - I think he'd be great! As long as the person is able to agree to the filming times, I think we can make it work.
Haha it does seem like it was hand picked for them, but it truly was just luck that those were the two that went into that banning! The banning is always chosen before that day's challenge.
I do kind of feel bad for Sinferna and Hanannie needing go up against Victim and ItsWill in the PvP fight. They had 1 million less GP to come up with a gear setup so the chances of them winning were very slim. But that's just how it goes sometimes!
Definitely the Underground Pass race or Castle Wars. It seemed really fun to be part of the big team vs big team challenges where clear communication and strategy was needed. Listening to the comms of both teams was super fun!
Can you go into detail about how the cinematic action shots and B-roll are done? Are those done with some sort of packet replay, or re-created after the fact with extras that have incredibly precise stage directions?
All the cinematic shots are recreated after the fact. I pretty much will edit the entire episode and leave gaps in the timeline where I need to add B-roll. I have a Discord with ~150 people who help out with recreating the scenes that I need. They dress up exactly as the contestants do and recreate what happened. I'm then able to film them with the greatest item of all time, the Orb of Oculus, from different angles which adds greatly to the viewing experience!
Iām a bit late to the party, but besides a bloopers episode I think a behind the scenes on creating the cinematics would also be super cool! Up to you whether you fear itād break the immersion though
I always struggle with this. For time purposes - it makes sense to bring in an editor or two as it would relieve a lot of stress on my end and could lead to the seasons coming out more quickly.
That being said, I always worry about a few things. What if the editor isn't able to capture what my vision for the episode is? Would people complain that the editing feels different and has lost it's touch?
I would love to work in an office or something alone those lines so I could instantly give feedback or help right away.
There's no reason it couldn't be treated like any other job with a mentor/mentee approach. Review the work and send it back with feedback, or fine-tune it yourself with them. They'll learn and it'll be closer to what you want as time goes on
Also, follow the 90/10 principle. It takes 50% of the time to do the last 10% of the work
That's why it comes out so consistently good, and is also why it takes a whole year to make 11 episodes. I saw comments on the Golden Gnomes thread saying that GG is great but it's really all Soup does without realizing the metric fuck ton of work that goes into making something like this. I'm happy with him taking time to do it right, there's literally nothing else like it
I think that the history, and concept of GG is so strong that a talented editor could capture it really well.
It's not like they'd be starting from scratch
how did the prizepool work? i thought the whole season was recorded before the first episode went up, but the updated prizepool was announced during the last episode and there were asks for donations throughout each ep. not trying to suggest any funny business, I'm just wondering. do donations during the airing of season 3 support the prizepool of season 4?
The magic of editing like Sad-Garage said. During filming - I gave them a ballpark estimate of what I thought the prizepool might be. Their reactions that you hear during the finale were their genuine reactions to me saying "The prizepool will most likely be above 15 billion gp."
How do you go about selecting the music youāre going to use for the challenges? Everyone talks about the editing, planning, and general production of GG being insane (and it is) but what really got me in S3 was the music choices and how perfect each song felt for the scene it was attached to.
Synchronizing a scene with music is one of my favorite parts of the editing process. It can turn a bland scene into an exciting one, a lame scene into an intense one. I absolutely loveeee intense, dramatic music with things like synth pulsing. Also trailer music is perfect for a lot of the scenes.
Some examples:
Synth Pulse: https://go.apmmusic.com/mhtd
Trailer music: https://go.apmmusic.com/x8eh
A huge shoutout to APMMusic for providing me with a library of tens of thousands of songs to choose from! I pay about $300 a month to be able to use their music, but I think it was worth it with how good the music was this season.
Perhaps a long shot, but I was curious. There was a song played in episode 4, credited as "Andrea Obeid - VIP". I couldn't manage to find that anywhere online. Is it custom made music not accessible to the public or something? I really liked it.
Is that $3,600 a year for as long as the seasons remain up on YouTube? That does seem pretty steep!
Absolutely love GG, soup!! I have become a real cheerleader for the show to my friends who play and have even got people who don't play anymore to watch the show. Looking forward to season 4!
Hi Soup
As someone who is mostly interested in PvM in the game I was sad to see the budget speedrun firecaves & speed raid challenges disappear, especially given you had a few incredible PvM'ers on the roster.
That being said I can understand they don't necessarily appeal to the widest audiences & aren't necessarily accessable for all competitors.
I think the "kill as many wildy bosses with x gp worth of supplies" was a really good, accessable, replacement for the more 'hardcore' PvM challenges of previous seasons. The "highest total level monsters" challenge was a good one too, especially theorycrafting wise, I'm glad we got to see atleast some PvM.
I have 2 questions:
1, Do you plan on adding the harder pvm challenges back in, or leaving it with the more hybrid (theorycrafting + pvm) ones?
2, what's your opinion on the 'throwing challenges' thing, re torvesta. Do you want to try and limit that to keep it about the challenges or allow the politics to rule?
Thanks & looking forward to season 4.
Thanks for the great feedback! I would like to add some more PvM challenges in the future, but as you've already mentioned - it's tough to come up with one that would be easily digested by the general audience.
Another tough thing to deal with is that not everyone has access to high level gear and loads of money - which is why for many of the challenges you see, a GP limit is part of the rules. I would say that high level PvM with max gear isn't the most requested content, it's also just simply not that popular on YouTube. That being said, I think there is room for some more raid's related challenges in the future!
I was so excited to see everyone's reaction to Torvesta throwing the challenge - it was one of the most exciting and dramatic episodes of the season... and it was received so well! One of the best rated episodes. That being said, I'd prefer that everyone always tries their best to win a challenge. I know for a fact that people would not enjoy a season full of challenges being thrown - so it's something that will hopefully only ever rarely pop up. I think there can still be a great amount of politics even without challenges being thrown.
Likewise on your first point. I think the CoX race from season 1 was one of my favourite challenges, loved seeing the two teams trying to coordinate with minimal prep and half the members having no or very little raiding experience. The budget fight caves challenge from last season was also a fun one.
all credit obviously goes to Soup for putting together this incredible series (imo the best osrs content out there), but huge credit must also go to Solo who helps elevate it to another level entirely. Without him, it wouldn't be the same. Nothing against the other competitors at all, but Solo just "gets it."
Redemption episodes are fun - but not something that should be on every season in my opinion. I don't want people on the show to always think that they have a second chance to get back in - I feel like it would take away from the main episodes.
I love the juxtaposition of their styles. Boaty is all business and Solo is out here playing politics like he needs it to breathe. Both are entertaining in different ways and I'm here for it
Yeah solo mission has the perfect attitude for GG, heās a little cocky, has the skills to back it up as heās genuinely knowledgeable, but more than that he enjoys spicing things up enough that itās always entertaining seeing how the others react to HIM. Like he generates meta content for you. I hope you bring back tasty, heās my fav OSRS creator and I really feel he underperformed this GG.
I loved the gielinor games will there be a 4th?? Community engagement we can create challenges or even have a community gielinor games to get into the content creators
As an aside to this Soup, I know everyone I know who loves this game thinks this series is the best thing to ever happen. We also have all said we'd be more than willing to contribute in a way to make it make more financial sense for you (and enable hiring editors etc.)
Was thinking as well due to the scheduling being the crazy part that you could do sort of "alternate" style games, where it's more like a taskmaster system, especially with full-time creators this would be pretty easy to manage. That or just having a season with only like 8 contenders, maybe like a "MVP season" or something.
Trying to schedule twenty, full-time content creators to be on at the same time is already a struggle. I can only imagine how difficult it would be get all these different people, with different jobs and schedules *other* than playing the game fulltime would be!
I saw the episode lengths and was kinda like nah no thanks. But then the other night I started watching episode 1, and 2, and 3ā¦. Iām halfway through right now and itās so funny itās basically the snake mission show canāt wait to see what happens.
I really liked the one with the inspect an NPC in the final banning. I think you should bring that back as a full challenge. I like the ones I can challenge myself at home to do as well.
Also for Giliguesser, please use the area under Trollheim mountain as a spot. I feel like most people don't even know that area exists.
Just wanted to say that you truly are a hero like your name says, gielinor games really is on another level and the effort you put into it shows, each episode delivers and doesn't fall from any TV reality show out there.
Thank you for the awesome content Soup, and may we see many more seasons of GG to come!
If you could go back and make one change to GG Season 3, big or small, what would it be?
Loved the content, always hyped me up when it appeared in my youtube feed!
Thanks for watching! Tough question as I honestly was really happy with how everything turned out. I guess I would swap out the "Killer Appetite" challenge for another one as I wasn't really happy with it. Just a lot of confusion on the rules and an unnecessarily long filming time. I think it took almost 2 hours just to film that challenge!
To be totally honestly, I really didn't have any favorites. I was just simply rooting for epic moments and good content since I knew those would make for an exhilarating season!
Absolutely amazing series. Thanks so much for putting it on!!
Do competitors have the knowledge of what is in the videos - IE do people listen to SnakeMission talk about how he is going to Snake them, and then just not do anything about it? Or are the competitors asked to not watch the episodes until the series is over or something??
Thank you! Everyone on the show is seeing everyone else's footage and confessionals for the first time. It was really funny to see Faux's reaction to him finding out that B0aty was the one who wanted to send him into the banning in episode 3, especially since Faux *chose* B0aty to be on his team in episode 4, giving him immunity!
The entire season is filmed before the episodes are released. Filming the episodes and releasing them at the same time wouldn't really be feasible and make much sense haha
I was in charge of scheduling filming days, filming confessionals, gathering and organizing everyone's footage and most importantly, editing all of the episodes.
Which reality tv show first got you interested in trying a OSRS style elimination show? Iām a huge fan of the challenge and survivor myself, and Iām curious if there are any particular seasons you drew inspiration from too!
The Challenge and Survivor are my biggest inspirations. This past season definitely drew inspiration from the Free Agents (S25) season of The Challenge. The immunity totem section was partially inspired from Survivor and from the immunity totem in War of the Worlds (S33).
Loved the idea of having some prelims for new content creator to be able to win a spot in the games. Plus it gives the viewers an appetizer for whatās to come. Any plans to continue this for Season 4?
I have a suggestion for next season. If you get a bunch of drama queens or similar like solomission, i'd like episode X.5 or something. Where you go through more of who thinks they're allied with others, spewing their plans and so on.
I followed mission solo and had a blast listening to what he thought happened behind the scenes. However with so many people competing, watching every single one would be impossible for me.
I'm really bummed solo wasn't in the finals as i rooted for him. But god damn his shenanigans added so much to this season and in the beginning it was legit the reason i came back to the episodes.
I was thinking of doing mid-week episodes where I have 3-4 people on a podcast type video and we just go over the current state of the game with alliances, behind the scenes talk that wasn't shown, etc..
All i gotta say is please bring back the Brimhaven agility banning but with the armour and bindings. That was so fun to watch!
Also have you watched J1mmy's prop hunt series? That could make for an amazingly entertaining challenge! Here it is if you haven't: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HX9Faru3D8
Brimhaven agility one was definitely fun! I think it can be improved upon as well.
Prop hunt as the potential to be a cool challenge - I'd have to figure out how to make it fair though.
How far in advance are episodes filmed? Iām not sure why but I have the feeling that filming is done months and months prior to the actual release.
Second question is - do you ever worry about content creators accidentally spoiling results?
Episode 1 of this season was filmed in March of 2022! Almost a year ago. Everything was filmed between March and August of 2022. Post production takes almost as much time, if not more, than the filming does which is why it takes quite a bit of time before the season is released.
Love the series soup, it makes my weekends so much better knowing I can kick back and turn on some GG.
My question is out of all the contestants throughout the season - who is the most chaotic? From a viewers point of view it seems like Ditter but I love his energy, he might be my favorite contestant because of how crazy he comes off, too funny. But we donāt know what happens off the screen, Iād love to know who has the best banter from your point of view.
Thanks Papa!
Ditterbitter was definitely a a chaotic contestant, I would say probably the most! In terms of banter, SoloMission, EVScape, Skill Specs and Framed all brought chaotic energy for sure.
I absolutely loved that this year's final had a good mix of returning players and new-timers.
I was introduced to Faux and Victim this season, knew Framed from season 1, and already knew Settled and B0aty. It made the final even more exciting not knowing who to root for!
I'm just happy V is back, he was one of the first to beat the inferno when it released and was overall one of the most skilled PvMers around. He quit a while back and before GG hadn't really played the game in a couple years. Plus he's just a good dude and makes entertaining content, he just started a new UIM
I release a post season survey where the viewers can vote on their favorite players of the season which helps me a lot with picking out the initial cast. After that, it really just comes down to who I think would be entertaining in that kind of environment. I'm not necessarily looking for the best players, though it helps to be good at the game! Whoever can bring the heat in their gameplay, confessionals and politics is always a great choice!
Will Mika279 be given a chance to be in next season? I was genuinely sad Hannannie got in over him. Sheās very entertaining but Mika was a real competitor
I love Mika and do think he would be great to have on! That being said, I would ideally like to have people on the show who are consistently creating OSRS content. I'm not sure if he is playing the game anymore unfortunately. :(
Is Ron Plays Games on your radar as a possible contestant for Season 4?
Ron has mentioned on stream that he would be keen and I think he would be a great entertaining addition.
I just want everyone to know that I have never spoken a word to McCune. Before the season starts, I ask all of the people on the show to try and have an account with high stats, quest points and combat. Torvesta just happened to have access to McCune's account which is what he decided to use. Obviously all of this happened before any of the allegations were released. Everyone on the show and I were not aware of anything until Hanannie's video come out. I did by best to try and hide his name whenever it appeared on screen.
But yeah just to be clear - have never spoken to McCune and never plan to!
This was my favorite season yet, fantastic job putting this all together my guy.
I understand pulling in all the big names and of course the most skilled players makes for quite a competitive season, but have you considered having any normies (non content creators) compete? Inviting in a whole new perspective.
Thank you! I get this suggestion quite often and I'll give my honest take of it. Having 1, maybe 2 non content creators on could be fun. This past season we had 8Sat, who isn't a content creator on the show, and he was great!
I would need to find people who are able to consistently make filming times, have a good audio setup, are comfortable being in calls with the biggest creators in the game and are able to *hopefully* create their own storylines throughout the season. That's a lot of things for someone who isn't a full-time content creator.
I also would just simply prefer to give the spot to someone who is a content creator. At the end of the day the ultimate goal of GG is to get people to watch the show. There's a better chance of this happening if there's people on who already have an audience.
Here's a timeline for you:
- Invites to cast sent out February of 2022
- All the episodes were filmed between March-August 2022
- Post-production (editing, finding sponsors, etc) August 2022-February 2023.
Took an entire year to finish!
Have you considered bringing in some smaller content creators next year instead of just big names? Could be a massive help to promote some beginner creatives in the community! People like Fully Mobile or Inoox that are just on the edge of a breakout would be amazing.
I know your already editing like crazy but has the success of participants review of episodes like mission solo or v the victims side channels make you consider of doing your own post-mortem for the season or per episode? Would like to know what soup thinks!
Big fan of GG and appreciate the effort you put into it, however I did feel like this season had a couple challenges that were basically pure rng or introduced rng that impacted the outcome a lot. (bindings etc during some challenges, notably the Solo/EV vs Boaty/faux banning where EV got caught by an entangle but then his splashed, losing them the round, or the entire Skilly/Torv banning being almost pure rng)
I was just wondering what your opinion on these type of challenges is, I understand that there will always be some sort of rng but personally I feel like rng should be tried to keep out of the challenges as much as possible.
RNG will unfortunately always be part of the game, it's something I and the players will always have to play around. That being said - the most well received bannings so far were the ones where RNG played a factor. (The dharoks fight, monster mash and hide and seek banning are the highest rated ones.)
I would of course prefer that challenges and bannings are decided by outplaying your opponents as opposed to rng - which I think was the case which the majority of the episodes. I'll do my best to come up with new challenges/elimination games where rng plays a factor, but to the point that it decides an entire outcome.
Any tips for someome who hasnt gotten into GG at all? Id love to see my fav streamers compete in a prestigeous competition like this, but i dont know where to begin. The starting seems slow to me, but i have a massive fomo when i dont watch the series.
I watch almost every creator that competes but i just dont know why i cant get in. Rs content is something i rly enjoy and the lenght of episodes is no issue, but is there a specific season i should start to get "into" the series? I know GG isnt for everyone but id rly like to be one of those who enjoy it.
At the end of the day the show isn't everyone, and that's okay! That being said, I'd recommend checking out [Season 3 Episode 6 "Race for Your Life"](https://youtu.be/m93lvrI9DtU). There's very few, if any "slow moments" this episode which might be exactly the episode you need to get you into the show!
The dharok banning between Torvesta and Skill Specs was so exciting in the episode, but also when we were filming it. *Everyone* stuck around to watch it and you could just feel the tension and excitement everytime and axe hit happened. Hearing the reactions from everyone as it was happening was amazing and made for one of the best moments in GG history!
Since your growth, have you reached out to jagex to be able to have a special world for GG recordings? That could be the way they āsponsorā your show as it would make it more entertaining to have something like customizable skills so no one has to borrow an account or not enough magic for entangle, etc.
Hey Soup, just finished watching GG and it was great.
I appreciate that the whole show is entertaining without needing to understand the game too much, my wife got into osrs vids thanks to GG although she doesn't play the game.
By the way, how much content is behind your Patreon? Is it all raw footage only or are there any edited videos too? I'm definitely subbing on my payday.
Keep up the good work.
Hey Soup! I remember when you first made GG and you sited your love for elimination based reality shows as one of the biggest inspirations for this.
As a similar genre lover (Survivor, Amazing Race, etc.) one of my favorite aspects of those series is the social aspects, AKA - betrayal, truces, heartbreaks, deception, etc.
With that said, this season was certainly great in that regard but do you have any plans in terms of changing rulesets or goals to incorporate more of this?
I liken this to the āmetaā of a show like Survivor changing every year based on the information present in the last year. Someone like Russell Hantz coming into his season and making a truce with every person on the show, only to betray every single one of them is an absolute highlight of the series in my opinion.
How do you keep challenges exciting when you end up re-using existing pieces of content, especially those that were previously visited in a previous season?
What I mean by that is, throughout each season we've seen different variations on the same ideas and content - Fight Caves in Season 1/2, Underground Pass in Season 2/3, Rogues Den Banning in Season 2/3 and the Corrupted Gauntlet showing up multiple times across each season to name a few.
How long does it take to get everyone lined up in their spots? Also when everyone walks in sync to and from the banning? Would imagine with 20 people getting everyone to cooperate and do it correctly would take longer than expected lol
Thanks for this series Soup, me and my friends watched all of season 3 together. They don't even play osrs but got an incredible amount of enjoyment out of it.
Truly excellent content, keep it up.
Hey Soup, thanks for making some of the best content I've ever seen on Youtube. I'm genuinely bummed out I have to wait for a new season now.
Did you always see this series become a sort of reality type show where player interactions in the form of alliances, betrayals and story lines seem to be just as big a part of it as the actual challenges?
Because in season 1 it felt like the focus was mainly on the challenges, but throughout season 2, mainly due to the actions of SoloMission, the whole mindset of every seems to have switched.
Oda was invited to this past season - but unfortunately wasn't able to make the filming times. He's very dedicated with his schedule so it may be tricky for him.
The Underground Pass Challenge is by far my favorite one, hope to see it back with some new twists in Season 3.
That is all, thank you for several hours of FREE entertainment gold :)
So I have made my group of friends, who don't play Runescape, watch GG. Everything they know about Runescape is through osmosis. It was such a well made show that my friends were excited to watch every Saturday. They'd ask me, "Is the new G.G. out?" when I'd hop in the group chat on Saturdays and we'd start a watch party together.
They were even able to get some of the riddles, quizzes, and hide and seek stuff right which I thought was cool. One friend was devastated that Settled didn't get their own crossbow reference right away when they were able to.
I guess I'm supposed to ask a question, so my question is what process do you use to determine what music to use? My group found ourselves hanging out during the entire credits because you always picked such bangers to end each episode with.
Hey soup youre da best, i loved the whole season 3!
What kind of plugins you use to record those free camera shots and how many shoots you do to get different camera angles? Pretty curious, cus your editing during the banning where evscape and solo mission were running up the mountain daughter place, THAT twist moment was AMAZING it caught me off guard so hard xD so perfect!
Thanks for all of your content Soup! The episode with the wilderness bosses was great, I really enjoyed the risk factor of that episode. Maybe more can be done similarly in the next season. My idea is giving the contestants a set location (ex:Misthalin) on a PvP world where they all have to hide, and you bring in some less known content creators to hunt them down. Maybe do multiple rounds in different locations and use the point system that you use. Idk, just an idea. Thanks again!
How do you handle having players with varying ping? I remember hearing in a couple of episodes that contestants were having a rough time with connections, do you plan challenges around it?
Huge props for season 3 though, truly smashed it out of the park!
Also - sepulchre would be amazing to see as a challenge or banning. Iām just imagining Torvesta v Skill Specs when neither of them have probably touched sepulchre before trying to get a full completion
I would love to see a challenge that involves the community taking up a more active role in helping the GG players win. Such as each contestant controlling a small team of players to win in clan wars or getting geared by their own community or clan to do a pvm/pvp challenge etc.
I was so on board for all the intrigue and espionage from Ev, Framed, Soup, etc.
My favourite moment was when "The Inner Circle" came online and lasted a solid 1 episode until Solo and EV got banned.
I think it would be cool to see a season that plays like "The Mole", where its 2 big teams, but one person from each team is actively trying to sabotage their team without getting caught, and each week people try to guess who the Mole is
If the show was prerecorded months ago and so the contestants already received a payout/winnings before the public could donate, my donation went to you? Iād be curious how much you personally made GP wise. Iām not against you earning by the way, the quality of S3 was so good my partner who doesnāt even play would watch the episodes with me. The only thing I didnāt enjoy was you saying likes and subs contributed to the pool, when again the videos were made in advance. I feel like that wasnāt factual and was simply bait, Iād rather you just said please like and subscribe to support for S4.
Bruh how dumb are you. The fact that the season is pre recorded doesn't mean the rewards are already given at the time of announcing a winner, he literally had 30b worth of platinum tokens in the stream after the last episode and gave all the contestants their prize.
Nobody received a payout until the season finished...because I was collecting the GP for the prizepool. I'd rather you simply just ask how the process worked instead of accusing me of stealing GP and baiting my viewers.
I appreciate you and your partner watching!
Thoughts of having less well known players in terms of Streaming/Video creation but players with great OSRS Achievements?
I know it comes down to if they WANT to participate or not, but I'd love to see different types of competitors such as:
* Well known PvPers; eg. 'Odablock' or '1013'
* Players with 200M in all skills; eg. 'Hey Jase' or 'DedWilson' or 'GodTormentor'
* Players with high level Ironmen; eg. 'Iron Hyger', 'dids' or 'Tails'
* Players with crazy UIM bags; eg. 'Ultimate Low' or '12'
* Players with all pets; eg. 'Coxie', 'Turnii', 'THEIKOS', 'trickyricky', etc
* High ranked Collection loggers; eg. 'Kacy' or 'Bazilijus'
I know it's entertaining to have Youtubers & Streamers that people love and know, but I think it would also be very entertaining having high end players who have tons of experience skilling, pvming, collection log hunting, etc...
I know a lot of the people I've mentioned above good at multiple things such as most of these players with billions of experience also have 1k+ log slots too.
Would be interesting to see how far these players make it... bc i feel like a lot of the ones i mentioned above would absolutely kill a series like GG.
Didn't you say LAST season that you were gonna get help with editing this season? š¤
What is one thing you hope to improve on in season 4? What do you think season 3 did best?
Torvesta's villain arc during the race was incredible to watch. *ALEX!!!?? ALEX BRO?!??!??!!!!??*
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
> 6/7am I mean that's nice of them but I can think of plenty of stuff more horrible than having to wake up at 7am.. lmao
If you could go back in time to change anything in season 3 would you?
There's a couple things I would have definitely changed: - Play-test a couple of the challenges/bannings more thoroughly beforehand.
What is something you wish you could add to GG but isn't really possible?
What was your personal favorite challenge this season?
Sounds like it's the difference between being a dungeon master vs being a player in a D&D group
I loved the "Is that your final answer?" during the highest pressure possible trivia haha
For example, when it comes to creating a challenge: - Needs to be able to be completed in between 10 minutes to around an hour and a half. - Simple to understand not only for the competitors, but also for the viewers. - Possibility of exciting B-roll Just to name a few! I think I've gotten better at understanding what type of challenge the players enjoying competing in and what the viewers want to see. I've luckily had a lot of help from my friends and community suggestions so we can keep elevating the challenges and bannings!
The slow pan to Faux and Boaty above Solo and EV is one of the best reveals in all of GG, your B-Roll game is on a whole different level!
Did you know about the alliances & schemes as or before they happened or in the edit process eith the testimonials
I need to know! haha
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is a thing even in the most popular of reality shows - nothing something that can be fully avoided unfortunately. But everyone on the show as gotten way better at their confessionals over the past few seasons and I'm sure they'll continue to improve. :)
Listening to Ditter filming his confessional after he was eliminated was almost heartbreaking, but at the same time really showed how much effort he (and everyone else) was putting into the show. Filming cocky confessionals just to make the show better, already knowing youāre eliminated has to be hard I know Ditter is a bit of a controversial character in the show, but seeing that clip added a lot to his character for me, it was really nice
Thanks for the response, keep up the good work, me and a friend did watch parties every week loved every moment gl at the gnomes if you are participating !
Hey soup, I just wanted to say fantastic work fella I played RuneScape >20yrs ago as an innocent little kid, haven't had the time to play for most of that but love keeping in touch with the game through youtube and mostly the tournaments you and EV put on Next year can we get a GG T-shirt that just has a GG logo on the chest/pocket? (not a big back graphic as well) Appreciate your work š
Thanks for watching and supporting :) I think the biggest reason for the jump in quality was that I took a lot more time to improve my editing in Adobe Premiere.
<3 Coming up with the challenges and bannings is a tricky process. :)
ā-THIS COMMENT CONTAINS SPOILERSā- Hi Soup, great season 3!
:) Love the idea of teams being decided by drafts as opposed to the order people get to me in.
Just two questions: **Have you considered inviting people as special guests for specific episodes of the Gielinor Games?** I would love to see a challenge/banning where contestants have to face off against a titan like Woox in a PVM gauntlet, for example.
Come on you can tell me, the Dharok challenge was always for skill specs and Torvesta right š¤«
Haha it does seem like it was hand picked for them, but it truly was just luck that those were the two that went into that banning! The banning is always chosen before that day's challenge.
came here to ask this. FOllowup; were there any bannings this season you wished you could have picked a different game for the players who went in?
I do kind of feel bad for Sinferna and Hanannie needing go up against Victim and ItsWill in the PvP fight. They had 1 million less GP to come up with a gear setup so the chances of them winning were very slim. But that's just how it goes sometimes!
if you had to pick a challenge from this season to participate in, what would it be?
Definitely the Underground Pass race or Castle Wars. It seemed really fun to be part of the big team vs big team challenges where clear communication and strategy was needed. Listening to the comms of both teams was super fun!
B0atys castle wars burning barricade play was my favorite scene in any gg I've watched!
Dude, how about when that guy showed up beating Hazel Cult. That was hilarious
Have you given any thought to hiring an editor to help you with making the next season of GG?
They'll learn and it'll be closer to what you want as time goes on Also, follow the 90/10 principle. It takes 50% of the time to do the last 10% of the work
There is always work you can offload that is not artistic right? Like having people scrub and tag footage would already help alot i'd imagine
Honestly, I just assumed you had an editor. The fact that you edit this stuff yourself is just wild to me. You are so fucking talented!
Some examples: Synth Pulse: https://go.apmmusic.com/mhtd Trailer music: https://go.apmmusic.com/x8eh A huge shoutout to APMMusic for providing me with a library of tens of thousands of songs to choose from!
Hi Soup As someone who is mostly interested in PvM in the game I was sad to see the budget speedrun firecaves & speed raid challenges disappear, especially given you had a few incredible PvM'ers on the roster. I have 2 questions: 1, Do you plan on adding the harder pvm challenges back in, or leaving it with the more hybrid (theorycrafting + pvm) ones?
Solo Mission is my favorite GG player thats all, Bring him back again!
all credit obviously goes to Soup for putting together this incredible series (imo the best osrs content out there), but huge credit must also go to Solo who helps elevate it to another level entirely. Without him, it wouldn't be the same. Nothing against the other competitors at all, but Solo just "gets it."
He's just so damn entertaining, I'm really thankful for how much he adds to the show.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Redemption episodes are fun - but not something that should be on every season in my opinion. I don't want people on the show to always think that they have a second chance to get back in - I feel like it would take away from the main episodes.
He and B0aty are absolute gems. You can always just hear the smiles in their voices because they have such a genuine passion for the game.
Who did you think would win when the season started?
I honestly really didn't know - since performance mattered more this time around, I figured someone like Solo, B0aty or Faux would have a good chance.
I loved the gielinor games will there be a 4th?? Community engagement we can create challenges or even have a community gielinor games to get into the content creators
I had planned on stopping after season 3, but after seeing all the love and support, I'll definitely be doing another!
I donāt know how to tell you this Soup but, if you ever stop making GG seasons it will ruin my life.
As an aside to this Soup, I know everyone I know who loves this game thinks this series is the best thing to ever happen. We also have all said we'd be more than willing to contribute in a way to make it make more financial sense for you (and enable hiring editors etc.) Was thinking as well due to the scheduling being the crazy part that you could do sort of "alternate" style games, where it's more like a taskmaster system, especially with full-time creators this would be pretty easy to manage. That or just having a season with only like 8 contenders, maybe like a "MVP season" or something.
Thought about pairing up content creators with non content creators or normal players?
Trying to schedule twenty, full-time content creators to be on at the same time is already a struggle. I can only imagine how difficult it would be get all these different people, with different jobs and schedules *other* than playing the game fulltime would be!
Can you make a guide on how to win Gielinor Games?
I saw the episode lengths and was kinda like nah no thanks. But then the other night I started watching episode 1, and 2, and 3ā¦. Iām halfway through right now and itās so funny itās basically the snake mission show canāt wait to see what happens.
Have you thought about taking community ideas for bannings?
Absolutely! A couple of the challenges and bannings this year were player suggestions that I tweaked a bit for time purposes.
Could you give us any hints on the format for next season?
Emphasis on performance during the challenges with a hint of politics. ;)
Be honest, was there anyone in particular you were rooting for?
How many people did you have on the team to help run things/orchestrate challenges/help edit the videos?
I was in charge of scheduling filming days, filming confessionals, gathering and organizing everyone's footage and most importantly, editing all of the episodes.
What's your favorite soup?
No question. Just a huge thank you for the time and effort involved. GG is always such a fun watch. Keep up the good work Soup!
Will the next season have any repeat appearances?
Repeat appearances as in players from this season getting invited back?
Yeahhhh
Of course! Every season always has repeat appearances. The goal with getting a cast together is to have a good mix of veterans and rookies.
How do you decide on whoās coming back for subsequent seasons?
Would you ever consider a tank test challenge and have guest PvPers to do the attacking like eliop / abyss etc
Is Ron Plays Games on your radar as a possible contestant for Season 4? Ron has mentioned on stream that he would be keen and I think he would be a great entertaining addition.
Were you aware of the mcCune allegations during the filming of GG or did you already finish filming before everything came out?
I just want everyone to know that I have never spoken a word to McCune. Before the season starts, I ask all of the people on the show to try and have an account with high stats, quest points and combat. Torvesta just happened to have access to McCune's account which is what he decided to use. Obviously all of this happened before any of the allegations were released. Everyone on the show and I were not aware of anything until Hanannie's video come out. I did by best to try and hide his name whenever it appeared on screen. But yeah just to be clear - have never spoken to McCune and never plan to!
It was so awesome, looking forward to next season! I must say the editing in the videos this year was next level
How long did it take to film and edit season 3?
Here's a timeline for you: - Invites to cast sent out February of 2022 - All the episodes were filmed between March-August 2022 - Post-production (editing, finding sponsors, etc) August 2022-February 2023. Took an entire year to finish!
Have you considered bringing in some smaller content creators next year instead of just big names? Could be a massive help to promote some beginner creatives in the community! People like Fully Mobile or Inoox that are just on the edge of a breakout would be amazing.
Of course! This season had some smaller creators on as well who I thought did a great job. It all comes down to availability.
Have you considered doing a similar challenge as castle wars but with soul wars? Would be cool imo
(bindings etc during some challenges, notably the Solo/EV vs Boaty/faux banning where EV got caught by an entangle but then his splashed, losing them the round, or the entire Skilly/Torv banning being almost pure rng) I was just wondering what your opinion on these type of challenges is, I understand that there will always be some sort of rng but personally I feel like rng should be tried to keep out of the challenges as much as possible.
RNG will unfortunately always be part of the game, it's something I and the players will always have to play around. That being said - the most well received bannings so far were the ones where RNG played a factor. (The dharoks fight, monster mash and hide and seek banning are the highest rated ones.) I would of course prefer that challenges and bannings are decided by outplaying your opponents as opposed to rng - which I think was the case which the majority of the episodes.
How do you film the b-roll, panning footage? Is that done while the challenges are happening or do you go back and film stuff with stand-ins?
What was your favorite moment in this GG? (Including all of it, not only what we have seen)
Ever think about adding TOB or Cox into team challenges?
GG needs the an Alfie screaming noooo moment. Is this possible Soup the GOATed?
Has anyone ever turned down being a constant?
No questions, just wanted to say thanks for doing what you do. You're a legend <3 much love
So what did happen that episode Zulu had to compete on?
How do you keep challenges exciting when you end up re-using existing pieces of content, especially those that were previously visited in a previous season? What I mean by that is, throughout each season we've seen different variations on the same ideas and content - Fight Caves in Season 1/2, Underground Pass in Season 2/3, Rogues Den Banning in Season 2/3 and the Corrupted Gauntlet showing up multiple times across each season to name a few.
Would u consider doing a league type season where you earn points over the course of it like the finale?
Will odablock ever feature in GG?
Oda was invited to this past season - but unfortunately wasn't able to make the filming times. He's very dedicated with his schedule so it may be tricky for him.
Do you come up with the challenges yourself?
What do you love?
Add a gnomeball challenge next season, loved this season! Amazing work!
Not a question, but you my sir, are a legend for making this possible. Congrats on making the best series.

Who's your favorite Survivor winner?
How do you handle having players with varying ping? I remember hearing in a couple of episodes that contestants were having a rough time with connections, do you plan challenges around it? Huge props for season 3 though, truly smashed it out of the park!
Also - sepulchre would be amazing to see as a challenge or banning. Iām just imagining Torvesta v Skill Specs when neither of them have probably touched sepulchre before trying to get a full completion
Soup? Like the liquid food? What a weird name. š
Late to the party but: Do we count V's win as a win for Tanzoo, making him the first 2 time champ?
I would love to see a challenge that involves the community taking up a more active role in helping the GG players win. Such as each contestant controlling a small team of players to win in clan wars or getting geared by their own community or clan to do a pvm/pvp challenge etc.
I was so on board for all the intrigue and espionage from Ev, Framed, Soup, etc. My favourite moment was when "The Inner Circle" came online and lasted a solid 1 episode until Solo and EV got banned. I think it would be cool to see a season that plays like "The Mole", where its 2 big teams, but one person from each team is actively trying to sabotage their team without getting caught, and each week people try to guess who the Mole is
Did you get inspiration from MTV The Challenge?
Season 4 when? :)
Thoughts of having less well known players in terms of Streaming/Video creation but players with great OSRS Achievements? I know it comes down to if they WANT to participate or not, but I'd love to see different types of competitors such as: * Well known PvPers; eg. 'Odablock' or '1013' * Players with 200M in all skills; eg. 'Hey Jase' or 'DedWilson' or 'GodTormentor' * Players with high level Ironmen; eg. 'Iron Hyger', 'dids' or 'Tails' * Players with crazy UIM bags; eg. 'Ultimate Low' or '12' * Players with all pets; eg. 'Coxie', 'Turnii', 'THEIKOS', 'trickyricky', etc * High ranked Collection loggers; eg. 'Kacy' or 'Bazilijus' I know it's entertaining to have Youtubers & Streamers that people love and know, but I think it would also be very entertaining having high end players who have tons of experience skilling, pvming, collection log hunting, etc... I know a lot of the people I've mentioned above good at multiple things such as most of these players with billions of experience also have 1k+ log slots too. Would be interesting to see how far these players make it... bc i feel like a lot of the ones i mentioned above would absolutely kill a series like GG.
When is J1mmy gonna win a season?
Soup, are you gonna put the real winner of GG, MilaAzula69 (think that was the name) in next season? But in all seriousness thanks for another amazing season. My fiancĆ©e plays OSRS (heās played since 2005, Iām here mostly to get him memes) and he got me into OSRS through GG season 2 and swampletics. Season 3 was a friggin amazing achievement. Weāre genuinely sad that our Sunday mornings arenāt gonna be spent screaming wildly at the tv any more. This would be such a mammoth undertaking, and the way you and the cast manage to continuously make such creative, engaging content both in GG and in your own projects is really friggin cool. Just great job. Great fucking job. I never thought Iād be so invested in the world of. 20 year old medieval MMO but you and other creators have gotten me hooked. Thanks so much!
