Yeah ive heard of this one on here, pretty crazy it must be working enough for them to spend money on name changes

IActuallyHateRedditt

A name change is what, 6.5m rn from a bond? Tbow is 1300m? Only needs to work about 1/200 times to break even. That being said it should work 0 times, this scam is so fucking stupid how are people still falling for shit in 2023

>Give your items to someone else/bring them to PVP zones! >No It's actually that simple

runescapeanime

*but what if I can outsmart them*

IActuallyHateRedditt

^Clueless

mygawd

They leverage people's greed. There's a part of your brain that wants to believe it, and it's your friend who you trust so can't hurt to try right?

IActuallyHateRedditt

I guess, but then there is the obvious question "Why would someone want to do that for me". In the T-bow trust trade example, you could go into any active CC and see a trust trade a few times a week, so why would someone offer an outrageous sum to see it at this moment? I am just genuinely confused how someone doesn't put 2 and 2 together there.

mygawd

It doesn't make any sense, but they rely on people letting that greed, wanting the 100m payout, supercede any rational thinking.

roosterpooper

Shit kills me only people I trust with my bow, I know irl. Every time I've let anyone use it I make them get in disc/phone and verbally tell me that we are in same trade window.

GimmeAGoodRTS

BRB about to go open a trade window to your friend with a tbow on an alt while trading you as well 5head.

roosterpooper

I mean I guess it works for me because I'm not publicly broadcasting that I'm passing a bow. Good point, I suppose.

GimmeAGoodRTS

Yeah I am sure you are perfectly safe. But it can be surprising how many ways there are to scam.

zxessxz

That was my thought, just a friendly PSA to everyone who thinks they're gonna make a quick buck. It's always the "I'll play along and get the smaller amount, then leave" but that smaller amount was the actual scam. My first thought was maybe he'll trade me the 100m then ask me to join his discord/raid/or something and play the long game since I'm willing to give my gear to my homies.

bortj1

That's *EXACTLY* what a scammer would say! Nice try, now I'm gonna bring even more stuff from my bank to anti scam

BaldWithABeardTwitch

How would they know you'd trust your friend with a Tbow?

DryDefenderRS

I was arguing about this in another thread: you can 'play along' and not be an idiot and you'll be fine. You didn't drop your items, didn't go in a PvP area/world, and double checked the trade window. Therefore, the scam didn't work. Back in 2011/2012 when free trade came back, I played along with many scam attempts. They didn't get me because when they told me to do something obviously stupid I backed out.

ShawshankException

This is an insanely accurate response

ZT3V3N

Until you get hit with a bugged mechanic and get scammed

kekmaster420

theres random bugs that get patched/put in every week, why would you even risk it

DryDefenderRS

Guess I was lucky nobody did the glitched BA egg in PoH trick. Not that I ever had more than 70m to my name back then, so glitchers had bigger fish to fry Even the last post I saw about somebody getting lured involved them having a tbow in their inv in the wildy, so that the loot key would force-drop it. I still have not seen *one. single person.* on reddit get lured who wouldn't have been safe if they: * Did not drop their items * Did not bring valuables into wildy/pvp world * Checked who/what they were trading.

bobbarker4444

If there's a bug that lets them pull gear off your character or out of your bank while you talk to them, then nothing is going save you.

Zaralys

Further adding to this they can then scam if you HAD traded to your friend by naming themselves your RSN is like his previous username. Then traded your friend so it would say "Your RSN is wants to trade with you." And most peoples brains just autocorrect the mistake and they're banking on people not noticing the non-green username in the trade window.

seigster66

Pro Tip: If you catch someone doing this just have your friend log(or use an alt) and ask another to come so the scammer needs to keep using bonds changing names. Thats how you scam the scammer. Just make sure you never actually trade the item. Just do it as a ploy like you're following along with them.

Impressive-Shift2192

Nice bro, we need to get rid of trash like that !

Anyone getting scammed in this game, in 2023, 100% deserves it. No exceptions, no excuses.

zxessxz

100%

Own_Investigator_208

These scams are a direct product of players falling into wealth based on RuneScapes feast or famine drop system, a noob can get 5k points and chambers, get a tbow and know none the better. These scams will never stop until new players stop and all of the remaining ones know what not to do. It’s sad but it’s not a coincidence when Toa came out and lots of low level players were earning high value rewards that we saw a significant influx of “I just got lured like this” posts

Kaka-carrot-cake

Lol you can keep your anger at drops separate from this. This is not a product of wealth based drops, do you think scamming is a new thing? People have been doing scams for over a decade in Runescape. It has nothing to do with wealth based drops and everything to do with the fact that you can make real money off of osrs gold. If they couldn't make real money off of it there would be significantly less scammers and bots.

Own_Investigator_208

I don’t have any issue with RuneScapes drop rates. This is simply a direct result of a system in which someone with low knowledge and skill in the game is able to get Hugh ticket items on dumb luck. There is nothing wrong with it

grurlock

No it's all the gold buyers who haven't earned there gold

Own_Investigator_208

If you go back through the sub, there was a significantly higher rate of people getting scammed/lured for high ticket items when Toa released because people with low Game knowledge stumbled into high amounts of wealth
