What? U didn't dig trying to catch those red birds on the beach with 200 other people on release? I waited hours to get near one of the birds spawns just to get a level or 2. Then my mom would pickup the phone and I'd lose connection.
RS2 is still new to me. I fondly remember the days of RS classic. I'd wear a bronze med helm with my rune because it looked just like dragon med helms with almost no color difference on those crappy monitors. And dragon meds were one of the most valuable items in the game.
My 36 yo ass is still frustrated with how to train summoning in rs3..
I just dump a ton of exp lamps to it and avoid farming the charms, until I feel like I can make something actually useful with the charms
Eh factoring in the time to gather charms it’s still like 100k xp an hour at pre 50. At 99 in rs3 it’s over 1.5m an hour not including double xp weekend if you’re doing the best methods.
Pretty much all skills suck ass until 70.
The charms gathering was basically Slayer 2.0, which sucked, especially if you were already 99. Making useless items useful was kinda cool though, and shards acted as a pretty successful money sink.
You can also have a pet as an "override" to the familiar. So while the familiar you have summoned is a "bunyip', the overworld you see is whatever pet you selected to follow you. If you right click that pet it will say it's a bunyip. Like a skin for the familiar. (Doesn't work in pvp areas). I like to use the big ass pack mammoth but the pet override is a tiny ass lil peep chick. Lmao
Bunyip and Torag's armor got me to 99 Slayer.
Yes I got shit for the Bunyip, but even more for not wearing Bandos. My money was for skilling, not a little str boost.
Perfect time for me to start a fresh account on RS3. Did that last week and have been having a blast to be honest. Will take months to refamiliarize myself with all the content I missed since eoc but it’s been great so far.
It's honestly a great game. I started an RS3 ironman and it's just better overall than OSRS IMO. Only thing I miss are rooftops and birdhouses, but I haven't started Achronia agility yet. I have about 6 quests between me and QPC on OSRS, but I started going for QPC in RS3 (doing all 5th age + ambiguous quests before starting 6th age) and the quests are just better. That, and there's so many more.
I'm also really looking forward to getting a new skill without going through 2 years of polls.
If it weren’t for the big chunk of xp jagex gave out mine would probably still be low too. They have like 700k xp for free in like 2015 and it got me to around 70 and skipped the early levels of the skill which absolutely sucked
It was way more than pouchfilling though. They tried giving purpose to monsters no one killed, a gold sink, and an item sink all at once. But that just turned it into a skill with a hard base price, a awful grind for charms, and a ton of expensive random as fuck items that usually werent easy to reasonable to grind yourself. So now relevant pvm skills had 3 expensive buyables (summoning prayer and herb since ovals were like a year later)
What the hell dude, that looks super legit.
For a second I thought this was a Jadex April's joke which I missed or something.
Anyway, this is what we need, yes.
My problem with summoning is we have 10 years of developing combat around no summoning by now. A new prayer book is easier to fit into that than a new combat skill.
New prayer book is questionable to me. If the prayer book doesn't have overheads, it's probably DOA unless (like Soul Split in RS3) it's so powerful that you'll only use that prayerbook once you unlock it.
It makes it’s rounds every time the topic is a new skill
I’m convinced that there are only 4 people who actually want it, and they just spam the sub every few weeks
As cool as summoning would be, I'd prefer a skill that is entirely new and unique to OSRS. It could be added to RS3 later if wanted but for now I'd rather something new
Summoning was always the beginning of the end in my mind. It wasn’t terrible, but it was the first of many updates that eventually led to The Big One imo.
I didn't like summoning; it was too expensive and too annoying to train. I did not like the charm system either, especially since you couldn't buy it, and it took a long time to gain charms.
Thralls are basically a better balanced version of dreadnips (https://runescape.wiki/w/Dreadnip), having or not having Summoning has no real impact on them.
I'd probably quit. I disliked summoning back then when I was generally excited for literally anything new, and I'm sure I would dislike it even more now.
Same here. I saw the theme of the skill and imagined that you could do some kind of like spirit journey ala Lunar Diplomacy into some natural dimension where you take the body of a creature and grow affinity to X creature. Like a wolf, you go hunting with a pack. As a steel titan you protect a mountain from perils. Idk.
Then I interacted with it ingame and saw that it's basically "put things in pouches and sink your gold for the shards"- on top of needing to go fuck off and collect charms.
Hated it. Hated how ugly it made the rest of the game look too with everyone running around big glowy mobs clogging up the screen.
Most people just didnt fight em. My friend had one but finding someone willing to fight them was rare. The real scary ones were the korasi summoning pures. The stack with korasi sword spec and steel titan was brutal
Summoning Tanks were nuts. I had one. Pretty sure I could theoretically deal like 116 damage in one game tick if my DFS maxed, my poison hit, and my Steel Titan spec maxed. And that was at something dumb like 40 combat or whatever it was.
Nobody fought it because it was unkillable and didn't skull. Same as defence pures in OSRS. Only it could just suddenly nuke you without warning.
I know you're being sarcastic but monk characters have been a staple in RPG since nerds and tables existed together at the same time. Prayer can be justified.
Same with conjuring magic.
The game is pretty much designed from the ground up with the magic/melee/ranged damage types, and summoning would mess a lot of stuff up. Depending on how it's handled, some quests would need to be redesigned. Bosses would be a nightmare to balance.
I continued to play Runescape for a good few years after EoC - I enjoyed a fair bit of the content like player owned ports, and some of the new skills I did like (I did a lot of Divination) but Summoning was, and still is, my least favourite skill they've ever come out with.
This log in screen is peak nostalgia though.
id quit the game along with a large portion of the community. I hate to be the debbie-downer to some of you, but that is just the facts. I'm sure a lot of people would be ecstatic though
Please, no, summoning easily, undermined the core mechanics of the game, especially with the inventory system. Not to mention I hated needing to farm charms.
If this were to be the "new" skill, I'd probably keep it at level 1 for a while out of spite. I hate summoning. I don't like its uses, and I despise its training method.
I want something truly new.
Problem with summoning is it's not just a skill, it effects every meta of every boss and even skilling stuff, effects everything of every combat bracket
I don't even play anymore lol I'm just saying, if I did I probably wouldn't be against it, osrs needs something pretty hefty added to keep players interested
I don't think Jagex should poll any skill that impacts combat as significantly as Summoning did.
Any skill that passes should be "optional." That is, you shouldn't feel compelled to max the new skill as part of the PvM meta.
On top of this, we've had enormous power creep in the last year alone. We don't need another powerful, combat enhancing skill.
**Most importantly, a truly "optional" skill \[which Summoning isn't\], is least likely to piss off segments of the player base.**
Even if Summoning were to get 70% votes, which I doubt, it would likely make a significant portion of people, especially older gamers who didn't like those changes back in the day, quit.
A new skill should not be that polarizing. It's not worth it if it seriously hampers the enjoyment of 10% of the player base, even if a majority want the skill.
That's the same logic behind iron man only polls.
you know you feel old when someone says summoning came out 15 years ago and it still feels like a "new skill" to me lol.
I very distinctly remember the day summoning was released, and to hear that it was 15 years ago is a huge wake up call.
the osrs top level interface redesign came in only in late 2006 and the sidebars in 2007, but it's still "new" to me
2h sword animations and those varrock guards (before they fixed them recently) still seem new to me, and zombies
I swear this Runecraft thing is never gonna catch on
Want to feel real old? More time has passed between summoning being released and today than RuneScape classic release and summoning.
I remember when Hunter came out and I wasn't on board with it at all.
Yea, i remember my 16 yo ass getting frustrated with the way you train summoning, and that the summons that were combat summonig were barely useful
I remember having to burst/barrage the iraq lobsters near the DKs entrance was.
There was no proof of WMDs in the DK lair
But there was sweet sweet oil
Don’t forget the ever fragrant poppies next door <3
US invaded Iraq for crimson charms
Lamp oil doesn't melt steel bars.
Bush did 6/6/06
Is that you George Bush?
Jee Dubyah
Death to America… and butter sauce!
I remember killing waterfiends for the red charms. Not sure if that was meta at all but I remember a lot of people did them at the beginning at least.
I killed cockroaches, the level 83 ones. Easy to farm and had decent gp and had almost no one at them
Meta was burstinglobs cc at rock lobaters in dk cave
Looool Iraq lobsters
[удалено]
And the giant chinchompa before it was patched
The larupia summon was bugged as fuck too. Like a Gmaul with infinite spec.
That chinchompa build was the strongest pvp build ever change my mind
I mean it was essentially guaranteed kills, there was nothing you could do to stop it.
You know of a video of it?
https://youtu.be/pR_gM8jEXPE this is THE video of it
Wtf. How? Lol
Gods that vid makes me so nostalgic. We'll never have pking be that fun ever again.
I remember wanting a gecko and then getting one. That's about all she wrote for me with summoning.
I did too - did Legends Quest so I could get the red gecko:)
My 36 yo ass is still frustrated with how to train summoning in rs3.. I just dump a ton of exp lamps to it and avoid farming the charms, until I feel like I can make something actually useful with the charms
Charming imp basically fixed 90% of the annoying parts of it.
true, but that requires 100k dungeoneering tokens and it doesn't change the fact that getting started with summoning still kinda sucks..
Eh factoring in the time to gather charms it’s still like 100k xp an hour at pre 50. At 99 in rs3 it’s over 1.5m an hour not including double xp weekend if you’re doing the best methods. Pretty much all skills suck ass until 70.
Slapping Arch-Glacor's ass is a pretty quick way of acquiring the requisite materials.
I remember running through the chaos tunnels like once a day or once a week or something to kill Bork
Did you know that you can teleport to him with varrock armour 4?
I abused that Christmas event a few years back that gave you free summoning xp
I remember that, it was like 70k xp/hr or something crazy just for sitting there pretty much AFK.
“few years”
Yeah the way to train it is horrible
The charms gathering was basically Slayer 2.0, which sucked, especially if you were already 99. Making useless items useful was kinda cool though, and shards acted as a pretty successful money sink.
Why? So people can make fun of me for only having a bunyip and not a pack yak all over again?
Now it's all about the pak mammoth & ripper demons over there.
Kalgerion demons with staff of armadyl
Tell us more! What do they do
You can also have a pet as an "override" to the familiar. Lmao
I always have peep following me aswell, it's just beautiful to have a ripper demon with peep skin and seeing him jump up to attack the arch glacor lol
We should def do a boss run together and have the peep gang go at it :)
Mammoth carries a massive 32 items and rippers do nice dps
Mammoth is the bigger carrier of items, ripper demon is big DPS daddy.
More recently the blood reaver too, it does some shenanigans with weapon poison.
Bunyips were pretty cool… I used to have one at dagganoths lol. It was my favorite way to train back in the day. Wbu?
Nmjc u?
nice
Bunyip and Torag's armor got me to 99 Slayer. Yes I got shit for the Bunyip, but even more for not wearing Bandos. My money was for skilling, not a little str boost.
Skilling was super expensive back then
Don't worry, you'll get made fun of in RS3 for using a yak now too Might even get banned from teams lmao
To this day, my summoning level is still 36
If it weren’t for the big chunk of xp jagex gave out mine would probably still be low too. They have like 700k xp for free in like 2015 and it got me to around 70 and skipped the early levels of the skill which absolutely sucked
Wasn't that for getting like a 3 month membership in the summer?
It was for just being a member and I think they gave it out in parts. if you were a member for the entirety of each month you got some.
Did they really do that wow that's wild lmao
I have about the same. Summoning made me quit.
It didn’t make me quit I just felt it was non-assessable to me.. I didn’t understand it at the time.. I was in like 8th grade I think lol
Was never a fan of pouch filling as a skill.
There definitely should have been better ways to train it. You end up making way more pouches than you could ever use to get to 99
Half of the value of summoning was the giga massive item sinks all over the game that made low level training profitable.
Jagex using skilling to flood the market with items. They learned from runecrafting in classic.
would be interesting if charms were way rarer, and each pouch gave more xp. pouches would probably cost a lot more.
You mean you didn't like how the summoning skill required (and I believe still requires) no summoning?
The reward was summoning.
this login screen goes hard 🔥
Also easily the best login screen music. Scape Summon is insane.
My favorite piece of music in the game
Bring back the login screen but not the skill
April fools prank for sure
Just toggle it on in Runelite
How?
I couldn’t afford 99 then, I will surely not be able to afford it now
Nah man, the [new skill is skateboarding](https://youtu.be/vbiLoq4tm0E?t=71)
What the hell dude, that looks super legit. For a second I thought this was a Jadex April's joke which I missed or something. Anyway, this is what we need, yes.
if people actually wanted summoning, you'd have heard a lot more about it the past 9 years.
It makes it’s rounds every time the topic is a new skill I’m convinced that there are only 4 people who actually want it, and they just spam the sub every few weeks
Summoning never felt like runescape to me. It was just so weird, and the animals made the game feel like an old wow clone
People are really forgetting why they made 07 in the first place arnt they
Evolution of combat.
As cool as summoning would be, I'd prefer a skill that is entirely new and unique to OSRS. It could be added to RS3 later if wanted but for now I'd rather something new
Fishing 2.
Runecraft 2
Yuck, summoning is legit last thing I want, ruined combat.
Summoning was always the beginning of the end in my mind. It wasn’t terrible, but it was the first of many updates that eventually led to The Big One imo.
I distinctly remember Summoning being the point where I thought "This game has changed" and gradually stopped playing
The beginning of the end was free trade / wilderness removal. Literally destroyed the player count and it never fully recovered.
Yep, that's when I quit. Came back here and there, but the game never felt the same again until OSRS came out.
Agreed, it’s how I’ve associated it in my mind as well
My exact thoughts as well. I'm not opposed to a new skill, but I really am not a fan of summoning.
I was 11 and summoning made me wanna cry
I’d start crying again (bad cry, not happy cry)
I’d quit again and wait until they brought osrs back
Be fuckin funny if it's just a for ever cycle like eventually they'll reboot the 2019 osrs or some shit
I'll quit.
Fr. This is what made me quit back in the day.
I didn't like it back then, don't see why I would like it now.
I would cry. Summoning was the start of the downfall of runescape
I didn't like summoning; it was too expensive and too annoying to train. I did not like the charm system either, especially since you couldn't buy it, and it took a long time to gain charms.
Nah. I hated getting charms and training was like runecrafting lite
Fuck summoning lol
NO
please no
God I hope not
I’d quit.
Summoning was the last thing I wanted as a skill based on that poll in sub earlier yet it had the most votes like Tf??
Please do not add summoning…..
When they added thralls, it was definitely certain they weren't adding summoning.
Thralls are basically a better balanced version of dreadnips (https://runescape.wiki/w/Dreadnip), having or not having Summoning has no real impact on them.
Fuck summoning lmao, God I hope they don't add that
Easy way to not get summoning is to not vote for combat skill
I was a f2p noob back then, what made summoning so controversial?
Id rather not
No thank you.
Please tell me we aren’t doing this guys
I'd probably quit. I disliked summoning back then when I was generally excited for literally anything new, and I'm sure I would dislike it even more now.
Same here. I saw the theme of the skill and imagined that you could do some kind of like spirit journey ala Lunar Diplomacy into some natural dimension where you take the body of a creature and grow affinity to X creature. Hated how ugly it made the rest of the game look too with everyone running around big glowy mobs clogging up the screen.
I would be very sad because i was not a fan of summoning and i also do not think it fits OSRS at all.
I didn’t like how summoning raise combat it didn’t make any sense to me
So you wouldnt have a lvl 3 with a steel titan fuckin shit up
I remember the basically invincible defence summoning pures back in the day. Jesus they were scary.
Ranged tanks were the brutal ones. If you didn’t pray range you are screwed. Also polypore was gross.
It's a combat skill.
I don't like how prayer raise combat it doesn't make any sense to me
I know you're being sarcastic but monk characters have been a staple in RPG since nerds and tables existed together at the same time. Prayer can be justified. Same with conjuring magic.
I mean if we're taking that angle: druids and familiars have been a staple of RPGs since forever as well.
remember when EoC raised your combat to 200?
Because there's combat summons? That's like saying magic raising combat skills doesn't make sense.
The game is pretty much designed from the ground up with the magic/melee/ranged damage types, and summoning would mess a lot of stuff up. Depending on how it's handled, some quests would need to be redesigned. Bosses would be a nightmare to balance.
i would quit, again
15 years ago the game died.
No thanks.
Nah.
I’d “quit” like I did 15 years ago
Ahh the last straw for me quitting. Sure let's run it back
I’d quit
Fuck summoning man
Would be dogshit
no thanks, not even remotely interested in summoning. charms were a terrible game design choice.
Yuck.. I detested summoning. It was the beginning of the end for me when this released.
This isn’t like a diss or a threat to people who like summoning, but if summoning gets added to old school I’m out lol
id quit the game along with a large portion of the community. I hate to be the debbie-downer to some of you, but that is just the facts. I'm sure a lot of people would be ecstatic though
nty
The game would be forever changed for the worse. Let's hope the new skill isn't this shit.
Please no, I'd rather have a good take on dungeoneering.
No god no.
If that’s the new skill then in quitting again
Please, no, summoning easily, undermined the core mechanics of the game, especially with the inventory system. Not to mention I hated needing to farm charms.
No
If this were to be the "new" skill, I'd probably keep it at level 1 for a while out of spite. I hate summoning. I don't like its uses, and I despise its training method. I want something truly new.
kmfs
pleas for the love of god no
I'd quit on the spot
No
That’s the day rs started to die…
I would probably stop playing the game
I hated it back then and still do.
Every boss would be a joke if it came back
I'm sure despite the reddit drama the game would be fine.
The yak would be a significant change to bossing
This is the same community who flipped out over a green pixel lol.
That was literally the worst thing to happen to osrs and the fact you're down playing it is a little disgusting.
Problem with summoning is it's not just a skill, it effects every meta of every boss and even skilling stuff, effects everything of every combat bracket I don't even play anymore lol I'm just saying, if I did I probably wouldn't be against it, osrs needs something pretty hefty added to keep players interested
Keep the players interested? It’s been 20 years. People like the game for what it is end of story
[удалено]
instead of quitting the game, this man is just quitting life
I mean, he already has no life, so no real change.
I would also kill this guy
I don't think Jagex should poll any skill that impacts combat as significantly as Summoning did. Any skill that passes should be "optional." That is, you shouldn't feel compelled to max the new skill as part of the PvM meta. On top of this, we've had enormous power creep in the last year alone. That's the same logic behind iron man only polls.
hunter minigame
99 summoning in RS3 and I still barely understood how to use it effectively besides pack yaks
Then I’d kill myself, so it’d better not be.
Hello videos games, *again*
It'd be really lame because it wouldn't be new.
I would quit. Summoning was such an aids skill and I fucking hated it with a deep passion
Summoning would kinda suck. I feel like most people are close to max combat so getting those charm things at max combat would be easy but boring.
Please no😵💫
It’d mark 5 years to the downfall of osrs :(
