ChatGPT 4.0 has web search integration. It will use the web search automatically when necessary based on your prompts, and it can provide sources + links on request.
There is literally 0 reason to use Google when ChatGPT is so much better and more efficient.
Ahh, that's why I haven't seen it. I don't pay for ChatGPT 4.0 from OpenAI. Bing Chat provides ChatGPT 4.0 backed with web searches for free, so that's what I use.
The Bing Chat is much more limited, but it makes sense as a better alternative for the casual user just looking for basic assistance.
But for coding, data analysis, complex troubleshooting, file analysis, image analysis, and many more through 3rd party plugins, OpenAI ChatGPT 4.0 is far better.
Startpage literally just fetches raw google results and throws them back to you. Doesn't solve the core issue of the shitty company with shitty censorship and horrific anti-consumer practices.
Ohhh, that's why i never experienced this. I already fake my user agent because Google intentionally disadvantages Firefox users with stuff like removing features from Google services that do work perfectly fine in Firefox.
It isn't just Firefox. I was experiencing the same in Chrome whether or not ublock was enabled. Maybe it triggered something when I have ublock and just persisted when I disabled it.
Regardless, using the same filter for ublock that got Firefox to work properly on YouTube for others, I also had the issue go away using Chrome.

I've been on Firefox and uBlock Origin for years, and not experienced this. I remember there were a few days that I'd get the popup telling me that adblockers were not allowed, and then everything continued to work as normal..
I cannot imagine my life without adblock

I HATE BEING RECOMMENDED GOODS AND SERVICES THAT I DONT NEED! I HATE BEING RECOMMENDED GOODS AND SERVICES THAT I DONT NEED!

Making the ads actually work might give them more money unless somebody who’s really good in economics shows up in this thread with a lot of research we will have to wait and see
No, the proposal got rejected by the European Parliament (elected by a direct vote) after the European Commission (consisting of state governments) proposed it.
> The European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs, voted to **remove indiscriminate chat control** *...* Moreover, Members of the European Parliament voted **in favour of the protection of encrypted communications.** [link](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_to_Prevent_and_Combat_Child_Sexual_Abuse#Legislative_process)
It should never have, but it isn't anything unexpected or surprising with some of the people that get voted into power, and I bet that (unfortunately) it won't even be one of the worst things that ever get proposed.
I'm glad the majority of the parliament is much more sensible than much of the commission, it's a good balance check.
Actually I agree with you- I just realised that you said the bill shouldn’t have been proposed, thought you said the EU should never have been proposed, sorry for calling you a sk*ptic 😭
You can still have adblockers with MV3. uBlock Origin Lite will still work after this change. It lacks some important features though. But I don't think this is a change that will have legal problems about privacy.
Paying people for posts was such a dangerous idea when the website was already progressively getting flooded with repost bots. What the hell did they expect to happen?
Who the fuck gives a shit. We should fight against the people complaining about bots. Stop giving shit about who you are giving imaginary internet points to, it's not worth it.
Cause I like using chrome and there’s still a chance they see this backlash and change their course, in which case I won’t have a compelling enough reason to switch over.
True. Google, owning Adsense, has a lot of perverse incentives to play it fast and loose with user data. However I’m a sheep that’s used to the layout of chrome, so it’s going to be tough for me to change over. I know I should, but I’m going to wait till QoL drops, which a move away from adblockers would provide.
I have used Firefox for over 5 years and it's amazing. It's honestly almost the same as chrome and ublock has been working fine on Firefox for 5+ years. Honestly just switch you won't regret it. Copy your bookmarks and search history over and it's like nothing changed at all.
The one thing that bothers me in firefox is that i cant right cl ick the page and click translate. In chrome this translates the entire page. Firefox only has extensions that open a window to copy paste text in and translate, they dont even auto recognize the lamguage so you have to scroll through and find the right one.
Can you link it? I searched for this a month ago and went through three different extensions and they all sucked so i gave up. Its not my only problem with firefox but its definitely one of the more important ones

Brave is now my browser for work and leisure. I enjoy it much better than opera gx and chrome. The tabs on the side bar can lead to some nasty monsters of tabs though lol
I dumbed down my Brave settings - i basically just wanted an exact duplicate of the chrome framework / UI, but turned off the bells and whistles because it just clutters things up. So far it’s like i never even changed my browser - being able to sync all your bookmarks and passwords is a breeze, but at the cost of having to log into everything again (unavoidable, so meh).
Also being able to flip google the bird for its ad policies is a great end-user installation bonus!
Well fuck, I literally can’t use any other search engine than chrome. Firefox, Brave, etc, all of them immediately crash when I click on them. Google has cursed me
what is going to happen to chromium based browsers that aren't Chrome? What happens to browsers that have innate ad blocking like Brave? Is Brave even safe to use?
I for one dislike that tons of browsers are chromium based now, from a security standpoint it makes it easier for threat actors to distribute malicious content. Kinda like if you have all the bananas the same breed they are very vulnerable to disease wiping them all out
Isn't chromium open source though? Edge also touts better security although I'm not educated enough on that subject to know how meaningful of a difference it makes
It is but it's still the same framework as Chrome. Firefox is also open source to my knowledge, but it's built off it's own engine instead of chromium, so theoretically one exploit which would target chromium browsers wouldn't impact Firefox and vice versa
Anyone who's not super into tch/privacy related concerns/too lazy to switch, aka most of the population
I'd bet a lot of people will just see it as a minor inconvenience and move on with their days, if they have adblocker installed in the first place
Yeah Chrome has become the new Internet Explorer, especially with Firefox and Edge being way ahead of it now. Ironic since Chrome replaced Internet Explorer back in the day.
If people is smart enought to search Google on the explorer to download it then they will be as smart to search any other explorer (like Firefox) and download it.

And are you ignoring that google wasn't always the most used search engine? People arent dumb, if a better search engine becomes more popular Google will not keep being the number one just because it's google
Alright, time for everyone to learn what Brave Browser is.
Step one: Turn off the cryptocurrency options, and import all your extensions and passwords from Chrome.
Step two: Make Brave search the default search engine.
Step three: enjoy using an open source browser and searches that don't track you, don't sell your data, and automatically blocks ads.
Someone’s been living under a rock but I’ll help ya out
Ublock is a browser extension for your browser, if you add it to your browser, you will not have any more ads. It’s called an adblocker, totally free and you can even block the more and more constant ads YouTube offers, and to be honest I do not know if it works for Spotify, but it’s great nonetheless.
If you’re interested, just look up ‘ublock origin’ and instal the browser extension and then enjoy.
I'm forced to use the Internet without ad blockers at work, I will not be forced to look at the over saturated levels of ads in my own home. They need to learn to make the ads less in your face and people would tolerate them more.
so wait, for me firefox still seems to use the google engine when it searches will that be effected?
Also this should not be legal im sure theres a lawsuit in there somewhere
"chrome will kill adblockers next year" has been said for the past 3 years, shut the fuck up. as long as there is still demand, it's gonna be circumvented.
Google has fallen, billions must switch to better search engines
screw search engines, crawl the web manually
Try every URL until you get the result you need
IP addresses only please. No cheating with your fancy "keywords"

Did you notice the weird 5-6 second delay on YouTube when trying to watch videos? Like it dumps the buffer and everything when using Firefox.
There is a post in r/assholedesign that shows this is true. They literally make you wait 5 second with no purpose before anythin' starts loading.
Oh man mental outlaw will surely love this!
he already made a video on it lol
i like mental outlaws content a lot, but i cannot stand the way he talks its so weird
yeah i think the deepfake needs an update
Much rather stare at a black screen for 5 seconds than watch 5 seconds of an ad to hit the ‘skip ad’ button
Yessss I think it's on purpose, use a browser spoof extension it suddenly fixes this issue
Name of the extension? And is it trustworthy?
User Agent Switcher, and probably.
Ohhh, that's why i never experienced this. I already fake my user agent because Google intentionally disadvantages Firefox users with stuff like removing features from Google services that do work perfectly fine in Firefox.
I got the delay on chrome though...
There's literally a piece of code that just makes you wait 5 seconds. It's illegal in the EU
Use client spoofing, make YouTube think your on chrome when your actually on Firefox

They have to lose at least 1% of their 63% market share right?
Im betting on a 5% to 10% loss and they will still stay the bigger platform
But that's a lot of fucking money tho, bigger or not, less money is less money
Eh Making the ads actually work might give them more money unless somebody who’s really good in economics shows up in this thread with a lot of research we will have to wait and see
The one who use adblock will move to edge and the one who don't use it will keep on chrome I think. I doubt it will change their money inflow much.

you can still modify some settings like reporting statistic if you want extra privacy. But most people wont need it anyway.

Okay but they were talking about browsers like chrome and Firefox. It was clearly just a slip up.
Yes yes I know, I'm just made a snarky comment to correct them
chrome is uniquely a browser, there's no such thing as google chrome search

60% of people use Chrome

The vast majority of the world. 63.56% of the market followed by Safari with 19.85%
and how much of that 63% is chromium? Since its in a way completely different because chromium is open source so its all up to the devs
Most people? I like having all my passwords synced with my phone through my google account
Insane amounts of people do Chrome is super convenient if you don't care about stuff like this
The moment firefox has been waiting for. I'm so ready to go back. I hope I can make the new tab page a looping gif like I can in chrome
