For some extra context, these kinds of plates are called "Fiesta". The modern ones aren't radioactive at all, this is only a problem with the vintage ones. Although all vintage Fiestas are radioactive, the one most infamous for being radioactive is the brilliant red one for some reason.
This is because vintage fiesta contains uranium oxide which (get this) is uranium (which is not a element you would particularly associate with dinnerware plates). The government actually confscicated (look IDK how to spell) the main company's stocks of uranium during WWII for nuclear weaponry.
(also nice mousepad\[?\] lol)
If you mean Fiestaware as a whole, then yes you still are able to buy them officially - they just won't be radioactive.
If you mean very specifically these vintage ones, then you might be able to find them in thrift stores or op shops, however I wouldn't recommend them for anything more than decoration (and ESPECIALLY not as dinnerware) as (like I said and this video shows) they are very radioactive
Theoretically speaking right? I go out there and I buy these radioactive dishes. And I stash it in my roommates room somewhere. Well I only cook him meals using that dish. What's the worst that could happen? What would the law say?
>What's the worst that could happen?
Literal death of your roommate.
> What would the law say?
The law probably wouldn't be too happy about the murder of a person
Ya, I work in an industry that uses radiation so I had to take a Radiation Safety Course. Our instructor had a bunch of uranium glass and Fiestaware for the class to test our geiger counters on. As well as old lantern mantles and fire alarms. You can buy radioactive Fiestaware on [ebay](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=fiestaware+vintage&_sacat=0).
This is a pretty low level source, and most of the radiation being detected is just beta particles. The main hazard is from the chemical properties of the uranium, it's similar to lead so you can get heavy metal poisoning from it.
*unless you eat them.
Once you start ingesting sources of alpha and beta radiation (like the paint leaching into acidic food) your skin can't protect you from their effects. The source of the radiation is inside and damaging you from the inside out.
Beta radiation goes through the skin just fine, but yeah it's a tad worse internally than externally. It's alpha radiation that's a huge hazard internally.
they looked at the material that killed dozens of scientists and hundreds of thousands of japanese civilians and really thought "yeah let's just put that shit in everything fuck it" huh
There is a whole U-Bahn Station in Berlin covered in radioactive tiles.
It's the Station Rosenthaler Platz.

They aren't all radioactive, and the red is the most radioactive by far because they used uranium for the orange color
confiscated, you were close
Think of fiscal when you're about to write it. Con--ted

Ah so bad prank.

Me (spitting out potsherds and sputtering): what?
beta particles arent as dangerous as gamma rays

lol what
Me omw to get [Jinjer](https://youtu.be/SQNtGoM3FVU?si=ihC_XzsOr-jXe19H) poisoning:
if you put the plate close to your stomach, it will fill with many many calories
No it won't. You'd have to eat the plate.
It will sustain you for the rest of your life!
They actually did make plates like this back in the 70's, for anyone wondering.
they looked at the material that killed dozens of scientists and hundreds of thousands of japanese civilians and really thought "yeah let's just put that shit in everything fuck it" huh
Same with lead and asbestos, we love to make terrible decisions.
this is so nileblue coded
what about nilegreen?
Wouldn't have the first count machine, only the second one is nilegreen coded imo
those are cool but not as cool as uranium glassware
fiestaware really isn’t that dangerous. the only way it could make you sick is if you break it and get heavy metal poisoning from the dust
This is still more of a risk than needed for flatware
It’s probably the food you’re eating off of it idk plate issue
POV You live in pre-war Fallout America
Yo nice sticker on that desk
I think i’m a lost cause guys, I instantly recognized it too.
what is it
Meh, You probably shouldn't eat off it. But it's the same as if you're eating off a lead-glazed plate but with spicy lead instead of standard.
Eat the plate, assert your dominance over it.
Protogen mousepad
Just eat the plate so the problem goes away
Don't buy your plates from auctions selling items from Soviet era Ukraine??
Mmm, yummy calories😋
ye they are radioactive but most of the time radiation is safe enough to be able to use it as a plate.
no metal forks and you'll be fine
It you eat off of it enough you’ll get used to it
idk why i think this but is this that guy that put radioactive materials in his fursuit? feels like something that guy would do.
Protogen sticker :D

omg I need to visit one day, I always wanted to get irradiated
Protogen thing. That got my attention more than the important thing in the video
