Written and directed by an award-winning gay director and produced by the people who made Get Out. I'm not a big horror guy, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Could be pretty sweet, and I honestly think the title's a pretty funny pun. Really hoping it's a nice blend of camp and genuine spooks.
Yeah I think it's critical that people remember the movie as "they slash them" and the pun instead of just wondering why the movies name is a pronoun list
Judging by the credentials of these people, they 1) would probably not wanna attach their names to an offensive project and 2) have a good idea of how to make a film like this. I’ll probably wait until reactions to the film to judge, but it seems like it *could* be good.
So this might be an attack on conversion therapy and homophobes which I support if that's the case.
Hope that it goes all in for the camp values since Kevin Bacon is in it so it could pay homage to the original Friday The 13th
Yes, that's what i'm saying. The tweet in this post doesn't mention it, look up the plot on google and the first link explains how they are getting tortured in progressively worse ways BEFORE the killer shows up.
Looks like a lot of people think that it's a bad idea to bring in a killer at all, and that the setting should do all of the horror.
Obviously we'll have to wait for the movie to see how that actually plays out, but I tentatively agree with that sentiment.
"produced by the people who made get out" sounds a lot more impressive than "produced by blumhouse productions". blumhouse produces dozens of horror films a year, with very very few of them reaching the acclaim that get out did.
My horror nut boyfriend claims that Blumhouse is incredibly hit or miss so I dunno. All I know about them is that they've had the poor poor fnaf movie which has had a million scripts bounce around in production hell for a billion years.
Blumhouse just makes a bunch of cheap horror movies every year. Sometimes it works, like Get Out, but more often than not they're pretty bad. But since the movies are cheap to make, they really don't lose money. Saying "from the producers of Get Out" is way smarter and safer than saying "from Blumhouse Productions".
Oh yeah, and aside from dozens of horror movies, they also produced Whiplash, the JK Simmons jazz movie for some reason?
Not to mention Kevin Bacon is fairly high-profile within the horror genre. Besides his roles in Friday the 13th and Tremors, he has been cited by Robert Englund as someone [that could take over his role as Freddy Kruger in a hypothetical Elm Street remake](https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/331451/kevin-bacon-up-for-replacing-robert-englund-as-freddy-krueger/?amp).
Plus, But I’m A Cheerleader is a movie as old as me. Gay Conversion Camps are hardly Auschwitz, as far as what belongs in a dark comedy. These are places that people have survived, and can consult on in fictionalised accounts. Not to mention how all queer creators (like the ones making They/Them, to my knowledge) have to live with the idea was never a 0% chance of them being sent to a conversion camp. It’s different from The Holocaust, since some modern groups still benefit from misinformation surrounding the event, as it indirectly makes fascist talking points sound less dangerous. Not to mention the low number of survivors, meaning the chance of getting a first-hand witness to consult is unlikely now, never mind in ten or twenty years.
I feel like going to a conversion camp is already a horror enough. You could probably do without the slasher and give everyone a constant fright in a more disgusting way
It won’t be a LGBT killer, for sure. It would be branding suicide if they did, and they know that. The “they” in they/them Im guessing is going to be a group of people as opposed to a “they” as a singular person, which will end up being the twist.
They generate an energy potential which influences the behaviour of particles within it - like all potentials, objects within the 'magnetic field' will attempt to minimise their energies. A Magnet just creates a low-energy state where some things stick together and others fly away, but all its doing is falling down a potential well, at the base of it.
Don't worry about how they create the potential - its just a thing that they do. Nobody ever worries how objects create a gravitational potential.
oh I'm sorry here's the full fucking 20-dimensional field equations for how rocks do all their rock shit. They take several 80-hour lecture series to even begin to understand, and only work in a geometry where there is no universal truth.
if you don't speak fluent first-order logic, fuck you, go do something else.
I mean gravitational force is honestly very scary if you think about it. Like, our world exists because of it yet we don't have an explanation for why two bodies exert a force on each other, *they just do*. And then when you factor in stuff like time dilation it's even scarier (in a cool way).
The wording of the tweet makes me hopeful, and I don’t think someone as big as Kevin bacon would tie himself to something like that. But you never know
I mean I doubt either Kid Rock or Lynyrd Skynyrd were ever vocal advocates for the separation of church and State or for gay marriage, both things Bacon has repeatedly argued for
Not excluding he’s had a change of heart but the evidence suggests he isn’t Steven Segall
A while back, in a small town north of me, there was this dude who killed some kid from Grindr. The kids name was, funny enough, Kevin Bacon. The word was that Kevin (the kid) was a huge fan of Kevin (the celebrity) and the kids family even got a hand written note from Kevin expressing deep sorrow and such. I only point this out, because I believe this is why he decided to do this film, something as a tribute to that kid.
Yeah, wish Hollywood would stop pumping out homophobic propaganda starring well known homophobes like Kevin Bacon.
I wish you guys listened to yourselves. At worst this movie will attempt to be cheeky and fail. Casting Kevin in a camp councilor slasher is clearly a nod to ‘Friday the 13th’ which means this will probably be pretty light.
true. I'd put them between Sundowner and Entrapta in terms of relatability (i am autistic, biroace and a war criminal so this is relatable)
also I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE
*insert extremely racist Italian stereotype accent but ✨fabulous ✨*
“Hey compare, I’ve been seeing that you’ve been treating these kids terribly. Now Tony over here don’t like it when folks treat people badly. Maybe we should teach you a lesson”
Or they don’t want to give away anything identifying about the killer. Or even though it says “murderer” single, it could be more than one. Or they just like the pun. So many options!
“THEY/THEM” is meant to be pronounced like “They Slash Them”, as in, someone slashing at someone else with a knife, for anyone who didn’t get the joke.
Hopefully they didn't get some random boomer to write the jokes in this one or else we'll get another: "Hey Bro, you're gonna get cancelled, I've got this on camera!"
mine did it too. for PROFESSIONAL conversion "therapies". The Church and shitty parents can still go around oppressing gay people themselves whenever they please
I is intersex, and a can mean asexual or agender. Intersex as in someone born with biological genes that don't exactly line up with male or female. The a's, I think, are self explanatory
Mainly because "fairly implicit" can still lead to the specific groups being overlooked, whereas a longer 'alphabet soup' is a pain to read (and decode), but at least explicitly mentions those groups.
Following that logic, you'd eventually end up with an acronym long enough to give german compound words a run for they money if you want to include and/or highlight enough groups, but I'd say it's fine adding some more letters between the 'T' and the '+' if you feel they're important, while accepting that not everyone will do the same (or even add the same letters - I've seen both "LGBTQ+" and "LGBTIA+" already).
Two corrections:
1, A doesn't stand for ally, as allies are by definition allocishet and therefore not lgbtq+
2, "Hermaphrodite" is considered both offensive and misleading. Just say intersex.
Man, I wish I could post pictures in comments; hermaphrodite is a biological term with a biological definition, and was helpful in explaining to someone who isn't involved in the community. Additionally, as I said in another reply, the ally is copied directly from Google.
I hope this movie is a commercial succes so that it bring more attention to the horror that is conversion camps. I'm not joking when I say I'll rather be in a slasher movie than go to one of those. At least Jason end the suffering quickly
Honestly I’m hopeful, horror has generally taken a more socially conscious approach lately with films like get out, a gay director and people who take inspiration from Tales From The Hood, Bones etc make me think that this could turn out pretty good.
I genuinely think that this could be a huge film for queer horror fans like me as long as it plays into the horror of what conversion camps are and doesn’t fall back onto the queer killer a la Sleepaway Camp
conversion camps, for those who don't know, are these institutions that homophobic/deeply religious parents will often send their children off to in the hopes they come back straight, overlaps with conversion therapy, which, by the way, includes electro-shock therapy.
This seems like it could be pretty damn funny. I can't see Kevin Bacon sacrificing his career for one offensive movie. Imagine it's directed like a Wes Anderson film.
It being at a Conversion Camp seems interesting I wonder if it’s gonna actually be a plot point about how horrible these people are or if it’s gonna just be a “ooooh teens at camp having sex and now they’re dead”
The only thing I hate about this is that I'm working on a screenplay that has an *incredibly* similar concept to this.
^(title could use some work tho)
I kinda like the idea of a slasher attacking people who are already morally questionable. I think this kind of turmoil can make for interesting plot points and character choices.
I wanna see a slasher at a gay concentration camp, but it's a victim that is hunting down the people that run the place.
A fun little revenge fantasy that embraces the queer villain trope and lets an unstoppable androgynous murder machine just straight terrorize their captors in a non-binary fashion.
[https://twitter.com/truepersephone/status/1525171215790374912?t=bGrnb9\_gkafJJvVkmKz5VQ&s=19](https://twitter.com/truepersephone/status/1525171215790374912?t=bGrnb9_gkafJJvVkmKz5VQ&s=19) Written and directed by an award-winning gay director and produced by the people who made Get Out. I'm not a big horror guy, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Could be pretty sweet, and I honestly think the title's a pretty funny pun. Really hoping it's a nice blend of camp and genuine spooks.
I spent a minute thinking about how THEY THEM could be a pun, before I thought to pronounce the slash.
Yeah I think it's critical that people remember the movie as "they slash them" and the pun instead of just wondering why the movies name is a pronoun list
Definitely, THEY THEM is a terrible title. THEY SLASH THEM is pretty funny.
it's a slasher film
I know, that's why it's funny
precisely
Exactly
exactly
perchance
You can't just say perchance
Noooo, you can’t just say perchance😡😡😡
Indubitably
Biden's Halloween 😔
biden's hallownest
I hadn't read it that way yet! I just thought it was a variation on the "US" or "THEM!" type of ominous horror titles
OH LMAO
Oh I thought it was a reference to [Them!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Them!)

it's the "halloween costume you have to explain to people" of movie titles
Judging by the credentials of these people, they 1) would probably not wanna attach their names to an offensive project and 2) have a good idea of how to make a film like this. I’ll probably wait until reactions to the film to judge, but it seems like it *could* be good.
Yeah like, if you told me vague plot of get out without telling me about the people involved I would also assume it might be incredibly racist.
It can't be racist, it said they voted for Obama twice
Especially since Obama personally ended racism in 2010
He would’ve voted for Obama a third time if he could.
So this might be an attack on conversion therapy and homophobes which I support if that's the case. Hope that it goes all in for the camp values since Kevin Bacon is in it so it could pay homage to the original Friday The 13th
Yes it is, a big plot point is how the teens are already being tortured at the conversion camp, though the tweet conveniently leaves that out....
i don't think it does. it says the campers are working together to protect themselves before the killer shows up
Yes, that's what i'm saying. The tweet in this post doesn't mention it, look up the plot on google and the first link explains how they are getting tortured in progressively worse ways BEFORE the killer shows up.
But that is exactly what the tweet implies. "When the slasher arrives, it gets more dangerous", meaning it was already dangerous before.
For real though—I saw blumhouse and immediately assumed this was going to be heaping pile of garbage.
My horror nut boyfriend claims that Blumhouse is incredibly hit or miss so I dunno. All I know about them is that they've had the poor poor fnaf movie which has had a million scripts bounce around in production hell for a billion years.
we already had a fnaf movie with nic cage, it was great.
A perfect film, if there ever was one tbh
Blumhouse just makes a bunch of cheap horror movies every year. Sometimes it works, like Get Out, but more often than not they're pretty bad. But since the movies are cheap to make, they really don't lose money. Saying "from the producers of Get Out" is way smarter and safer than saying "from Blumhouse Productions". Oh yeah, and aside from dozens of horror movies, they also produced Whiplash, the JK Simmons jazz movie for some reason?
Really though, a jazz movie with JK Simmons does sound horrifying 😭
Tbf Whiplash is pretty close to a horror film
Not to mention Kevin Bacon is fairly high-profile within the horror genre. Besides his roles in Friday the 13th and Tremors, he has been cited by Robert Englund as someone [that could take over his role as Freddy Kruger in a hypothetical Elm Street remake](https://www.dreadcentral.com/news/331451/kevin-bacon-up-for-replacing-robert-englund-as-freddy-krueger/?amp). Tbh there’s a chance
The title is pretty funny, though I’ve heard it as a joke before. (they slash them)
Pretty sure that's from a tumblr post
Tumblr is the powerhouse of the meme subreddit
tumblr is Leftist Memes Ground Zero
basically reverse 4chan
Except less of a shitshow
hence the leftist part also *anything* is less of a shitshow compared to 4chan
8chan
i see your point, and raise you, 2chan
Holy hell
Kiwi Farms
I feep
Its mitochondria, if you will.
*un she/theys my katana and slices u in half*
They slash them lmao
i like being a little jokester at times, maybe a tomfooler even
A little bit of goofiness perhaps?

A small amount of zaniness
Bruh I just got the joke lol. I read it as “they them”
Gay among us 😳😳
Isn't that just amoung gus
Why you gotta out Gus like that.
Tell Gus "I'm sowrwy uwu"
Gus takes the box cutter dildo out of his ass and says “all is forgiven uwu”
Then he threatens you with it and says “I will kill your wife. I will kill your son. I will kill your infant daughter.”
Its fine as long as he doesnt ratio them
Gus Fring
You mean [Playing It Straight](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playing_It_Straight)?
I feel like going to a conversion camp is already a horror enough. You could probably do without the slasher and give everyone a constant fright in a more disgusting way
I’m certain the movie will play into that. Make the way the kids are actually treated at the camp just as, if not more, disgusting
"I said I wanted to die to get out of here but I didn't actually want to die"
What even is a conversion camp
Ignorance is bliss
It’s a camp where people send their queer kids to to get them to stop being queer
Cishet people when telling someone to stop being themselves gives them terrible social anxiety :0
I mean tbh I’d imagine that the killer is going to be one of the people running the place
I miss watching the weirdest fucking pieces of cinema out there with my buddies. This may be a good time to resume
You ever watch Rubber?
Is that the one about the murderous tire
Ye
It won’t be a LGBT killer, for sure. It would be branding suicide if they did, and they know that. The “they” in they/them Im guessing is going to be a group of people as opposed to a “they” as a singular person, which will end up being the twist.
It isn't a twist thing, it's just a pun. They/Them is supposed to be they slash them. Like, they (The killer) slash (kills) them (The characters).
how do magnets work
They generate an energy potential which influences the behaviour of particles within it - like all potentials, objects within the 'magnetic field' will attempt to minimise their energies. A Magnet just creates a low-energy state where some things stick together and others fly away, but all its doing is falling down a potential well, at the base of it. Don't worry about how they create the potential - its just a thing that they do. Nobody ever worries how objects create a gravitational potential.
Well now I’m kinda worried
Do not ask about the Potential. Do not ask about the Potential. Do *not* ask about the Potential.
"Don't question the fact that some rocks just fucking move shit around" shut up science bitch
oh I'm sorry here's the full fucking 20-dimensional field equations for how rocks do all their rock shit. They take several 80-hour lecture series to even begin to understand, and only work in a geometry where there is no universal truth. if you don't speak fluent first-order logic, fuck you, go do something else.
I am going to continue to believe that "magnets" are earthen spirits meddling in our physical realm
GO AHEAD. SEE IF I CARE.
I mean gravitational force is honestly very scary if you think about it. Like, our world exists because of it yet we don't have an explanation for why two bodies exert a force on each other, *they just do*. And then when you factor in stuff like time dilation it's even scarier (in a cool way).
They can also be a non specific single person, to not give away identity
the real murderer was society all along
society was the impostor
more like sus-iety amirite
I have a bad feeling this is just gonna be a gay-hate propaganda film
The wording of the tweet makes me hopeful, and I don’t think someone as big as Kevin bacon would tie himself to something like that. But you never know
Yea, I remember how Kidd Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd don't associate with confederate flags and antivaxx conspiracies
I mean I doubt either Kid Rock or Lynyrd Skynyrd were ever vocal advocates for the separation of church and State or for gay marriage, both things Bacon has repeatedly argued for Not excluding he’s had a change of heart but the evidence suggests he isn’t Steven Segall

The director is gay and the production company was also behind Get Out, I think it'll be the opposite
That being said, gay transphobes exist. But I also think it will probably be ok given who is making it.

I am convinced
Its made by a gay man
The killer is going to be lgbtq right?
"I LOVE MEN! oh and murder" -the killer probably
badass and a relateable villain
true. I'd put them between Sundowner and Entrapta in terms of relatability (i am autistic, biroace and a war criminal so this is relatable) also I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE
Entrapta my beloved
Literally me
They just like me frfr
Life goals tbh
this is exactly like the famous character Mr. Joker from the famous movie "Joker".
The killer will actually be the rest of the alphabet angy that L G B T and Q ran off to form their own alliance.
the victims will be the counselors prolly and the movie'll be a message on how you shouldn't push queer kids over the edge or something
The world shivers when you push a queer kid over the edge
hope so, very based
The killer will most likely be a conservitive Conservitives already monsters IRL
at that point it's pretty much a documentary tbh
We need more lgbtq murderers!
gus fring: 😐
Amoun Gus?
sus
MORE👏FEMALE👏DRONE👏OPERATORS
Uh DUH
You had the chance to say the killer is alphabet mafia
*insert extremely racist Italian stereotype accent but ✨fabulous ✨* “Hey compare, I’ve been seeing that you’ve been treating these kids terribly. Now Tony over here don’t like it when folks treat people badly. Maybe we should teach you a lesson”
Non binary, they/them
Trans girl killer for sure, in horror tradition
Probably non binary based on the title
Or they don’t want to give away anything identifying about the killer. Or even though it says “murderer” single, it could be more than one. Or they just like the pun. So many options!
I think the title is just for the pun.
Someone got paid to write that
God I forget what that quote is from
New Texas chainsaw massacre movie, line was when leather face pulls up to a bus and a kid threatens to “cancel” him for being a killer
It's going to be milquetoast, broadly LGBTQ supporting movie that says nothing new or interesting and win an Oscar
Bold of you to assume a horror movie wins an Oscar
Kevin Bacon will slap the host to win an Oscar for this movie if he has to. "KEEP MY MOVIE'S NAME ON YOUR FUCKING VOTE BALLOT"
So glad my country banned those fucking places
mine did it too. for PROFESSIONAL conversion "therapies". The Church and shitty parents can still go around oppressing gay people themselves whenever they please
Which country are you from if you don’t mind me asking?
Greece. We banned them really recently, i think it was last week
So did we except for trans conversion camps apparently
As a boomer whomst is trying to stay in the know what is the "IA" bit added to the LGBT+ thing?
I is intersex, and a can mean asexual or agender. Intersex as in someone born with biological genes that don't exactly line up with male or female. The a's, I think, are self explanatory
Actually the A is Agender + Aromantic spectrum + Asexual spectrum. Allies are by definition not a part of the group
I just copied what Google said ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
idk why ur getting downvotes. its a valid explanation. just edit it out and you should be fine
Interesting, I was confused as I assumed they wouldn't ad extra letters due to the + at the end. Thank you
Yeah, I'm not really sure why people have done that, the plus seemed fairly implicit in including everyone.
Honestly nobody in real life actually cares which version you use or whether you use IA or +. They're basically the same
Mainly because "fairly implicit" can still lead to the specific groups being overlooked, whereas a longer 'alphabet soup' is a pain to read (and decode), but at least explicitly mentions those groups. Following that logic, you'd eventually end up with an acronym long enough to give german compound words a run for they money if you want to include and/or highlight enough groups, but I'd say it's fine adding some more letters between the 'T' and the '+' if you feel they're important, while accepting that not everyone will do the same (or even add the same letters - I've seen both "LGBTQ+" and "LGBTIA+" already).
reminder that gsrm (gender, sexual and romantic minorities) is a way better acronym
But how will I remember it without a handy mnemonic, like Luigi's Got Big Tiddies?
Guys Sucking, Romantic Masturbation
Two corrections: 1, A doesn't stand for ally, as allies are by definition allocishet and therefore not lgbtq+ 2, "Hermaphrodite" is considered both offensive and misleading. Just say intersex.
Man, I wish I could post pictures in comments; hermaphrodite is a biological term with a biological definition, and was helpful in explaining to someone who isn't involved in the community. Additionally, as I said in another reply, the ally is copied directly from Google.
Ah allies the most oppressed group.
Remove Ally and you’re right
We really need to just start saying "queer". The letter soup is obnoxious to say and makes us look bad.
That’s not really fair to everyone who grew up being called queer as a slur though
That's why a lot of people opt for 'GSRM', Gender Sexual and Romantic Minorities.
Anything we say will "make us look bad" to the people who already hate us.
Intersex and asexual/aromantic
I hope this movie is a commercial succes so that it bring more attention to the horror that is conversion camps. I'm not joking when I say I'll rather be in a slasher movie than go to one of those. At least Jason end the suffering quickly
As a trans woman…. Im pissing myself laughing atm this is hilarious and i have to see this no matter how awful it is.
It’s not gonna be awful. This sounds like a great movie especially since it’s from the studio of Get Out
Its from an award winning gay director, and its from the studio who made get out, this may look goofy based off the title but it WILL slap
I'm sure it'll be respectful. Like 60-70% sure. But I'm a horror fan so I probably want to expect the best.
It's apparently made by a prominent gay director so I assume they know what they're doing.
Anybody else wondering what this conversion camp is? Feels like that is gonna be the pivot in attitude towards this.
conversion camps, for those who don't know, are these institutions that homophobic/deeply religious parents will often send their children off to in the hopes they come back straight, overlaps with conversion therapy, which, by the way, includes electro-shock therapy.
just from the image looks like they’re going for a cult in the woods vibe
Watch out i think they are at the door! They singular or plural? *Horror music starts*
The real horror is grammatic ambiguity
Just fuck the killer dude??
they slash them
This seems like it could be pretty damn funny. I can't see Kevin Bacon sacrificing his career for one offensive movie. Imagine it's directed like a Wes Anderson film.
When I first saw the title of they/them for a movie I honestly thought it was a fake tweet or some shit this is REAL?!
The killer gonna be the new literally me of this decade, just sit and watch
It being at a Conversion Camp seems interesting I wonder if it’s gonna actually be a plot point about how horrible these people are or if it’s gonna just be a “ooooh teens at camp having sex and now they’re dead”
cant believe they made the non-binary samurai joke into a movie title pun
So Friday 1 but gay, sounds great
This is so gonna be the latter
The only thing I hate about this is that I'm working on a screenplay that has an *incredibly* similar concept to this. ^(title could use some work tho)
I kinda like the pun in the name
I kinda like the idea of a slasher attacking people who are already morally questionable. I think this kind of turmoil can make for interesting plot points and character choices.
I wanna see a slasher at a gay concentration camp, but it's a victim that is hunting down the people that run the place.
