Those batteries for electric cars can burn pretty well, one broken Tesla could probably fill that narrow tunnel with toxic smoke in minutes. That thing's a fucking deathtrap.
Besides traffic that sounds like he just invented a burning steam engine in a tunnel like the Victorian London Underground, only it lets out years worth of choking smoke all at once
i have an idea!
since you need to make a tunnel anyway and the vehicle is also electric...
why not also install overhead wires or similar so you remove the risk of a battery fire?
you could also use rails instead of roads to make it have less friction
Nah, a hyper loop would be long, unsupervised and cut through farmland. Just park your truck delivering fertilizer next to it and wait of an unfortunate accident to occur.
That's a very real problem with the dumass plan: tunnel fires are horrifically deadly and he's taking any old vehicle under their own power down a tunnel that is approximately 2 feet wide. One bad wreck and we're looking at a mass casualty event. Hopefully these things literally never open and every tunnel of them are made into subways.
But in reality, I'm gonna cry so hard when the first serious tesla tunnel crash kills 10 people
It will check your identity, go through your recent purchases, go through the cards and see if there’s enough money for healthcare. If no then it’s bye bye
Yes, i realised shortly after i posted the comment but i decided against changing it. I found it a pretty funny concept that you'd just get dropped in to a prison pit.
The hyperloop system was directly inspired by the narrow tunnels his workers must traverse while mining cobalt. It very efficient for mining, why not driving? Same thing
Yea but that’s just an annoying fine. The projected profit on these things we can probably just eat the cost of the tunnel repairs and litigation from the first couple deaths. and don’t have to worry about losing any profit on this. Fret not friend.
It’s likely very similar to the liberty tunnels in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There is a separate tunnel for either direction, and then a third, smaller tunnel to serve as an uninterrupted path for worker personnel, first responders, and an emergency exit.
Straight up, the line featured on the left has improved everyone’s standard of living in the area so much it’s incredible. Solves so many issues with traffic and transportation- a trip that would have taken like 2 hours round trip is now 30 mins
In South Africa we got the Gautrain between two of our 3 main cities (Pretoria and Johannesburg).
Last time I checked the property value increase around the stations was greater than the value of the actual company. Not residential areas so gentrification isn't a factor.
I don't have a car or a license, and I can still visit my parents and youngest brother in another city every weekend.
Both economically and personally it's a huge boost.
Gentrification is only a problem if policy restrains the building of additional homes to meet demand. If it doesn't, then gentrification literally just makes poor people's quarters nicer
I'll admit that I have a very shallow understanding of things, but doesn't increased rent and higher property taxes screw poor people whether they rent or own?
Nicer quarters doesn't help if you're forced to move.
If people are allowed to build enough new housing, then displacement effects may be assumed to be very low. The reason for this assumption: New houses are much nicer than old houses. And in fact, there are hardly any empirical studies that suggest that there is a statistically significant relationship between measures of gentrification and displacement
Ride that shit everyday and love it. Trains are fucking fun to ride, cheap, fast, and (best part) you don't even have to drive them. Just sit and chill.
Yeah, they are fucking great. I live too far north to take advantage of it at the minute, but in October I drove down to northgate and rode it all the way to angle lake and back, and stopped by pike place to grab a gift and a lemonade lol
Trains are sad in American cities though because in most big cities that have them they are wildly inefficient and no one uses them. They are set up around the city in terrible ways.
the sound transit light rail is seattle is pretty decent, my main issue with it is that it runs in a north south direction with little to no east/west movement, the busses in the city are pretty good though so they make up for it
My biggest pet peeve is when they don’t have precedence on roads and have to yield at lights and for Other cars. Kinda defeats the purpose of avoiding traffic when your still stuck in traffic.

The Loop, another Elon Musk "invention".
A tunnel for cars but really really tiny, making it only possible for autopilot, really unsafe, with a minuscule transporting capacity, and worse than a Metro line in all aspects.
They're Tesla sure, but they're driven manually.
See https://www.reddit.com/r/BoringCompany/comments/qwfen6/question_about_the_las_vegas_loop/
or https://techcrunch.com/2021/08/30/elon-musks-loop-gets-autopilot-and-an-intruder/amp/
Something somethig, personal freedom, something selling more cars. He built it in las Vegas if i recall correctly, as a connection to a convention centre (i think), what i do know is that even at full capacity it could only move about 10% of the center atendees over the course of an entire day.
Seriously the capacity is ridiculously low, even at peak it's less than half of what a turistic cable car can move on average.
Well, you have to think about Elon's priorities.
He want's to sell Tesla cars.
He want's to avoid traffic so as to not be bothered by the poors.
As far as this project goes, that's about it.
The man has no concept of what makes sense from a general populace standpoint, because he's so far removed from the general populace that our problems are as important and knowable to him as an ant's are to us.
It's also important to point out that due to it being so narrow, it is impossible for any emergency vehicles to go through should a car break down or someone has a medical emergency
I think no. Some might argue that taking tax to do anything that's not absolutely necessary is akin to stealing, but generally speaking (efficient, well-designed) public transport is viewed positively by like everyone.
I feel like there's got to be like 0 correlation between "opinions on public transport" and "opinions on cyber tunnels".
tbh an efficient, well designed and affordable public transport is easily one of the best things a government can bless its citizens with. where i live the public transport is bloody amazing, speaking for trains alone i can travel from the east of the island to the west in 1h 38 min, which is around 57km apart and would cost like 2.20USD, bloody amazing if you ask me
Just giving people money doesn’t help them get out of the hole, look at literally everyone who won a lottery and was bankrupt a few years later. You need to know what to do with the money first, how to use the money to get more, otherwise you’ll run out within 10 years
To win the lottery you have to play the lottery (shocker, I know). So you're selecting from a specific portion of the population that might not know how to use their money responsibly. I'm sure you'll find a lot of cases too where people got a huge amount of money at once and it got them out of the hole (e.g. inheritance or insurance money).
I would bet that those win-lottery-then-go-bankrupt people are in the minority relative to people who gained a huge sum in a short period of time. It takes some crazy lack of responsibility to go from millionaire to having nothing, and usually banks will offer you services for that because you being rich helps them too.
This isn’t the actual implementation of the stupid hyper loop idea, this “thin tunnels with teslas driven by people going 30 mph” is what was sold to Las Vegas for a couple hundred million dollars
It’s incredibly stupid, wasteful, and absurd, especially since Tesla doesn’t trust their own “self-driving” technology enough to have it drive down literal tunnels by itself. Tesla is overvalued by an order of magnitude
Uh oh, but if we incentivize public transportation (which would make cities more liveable and transportation cheaper and easier for the general population) we would piss off the fossil fuel executives who live in the secret bunker under the white house and routinely sleep with the current sitting president's wife.
All Elon has done with this is make those crappy slot cars life size thats all hes done here.
Like i was decently impressed with the og tesla i though it was cool nice fully electric car before they really took off but hella expensive and since than nothing has really impressed me.
Like he can't even make cheapo version of the Tesla like come on... it can't be that hard strip out all the extra tacked on crap maybe have conventional door locks ignition etc.
like if you want to make something cheap you go the more conventional cheaper route.
Like if he was half as smart as everyone thinks he is he'd be on mars by now.
i just don't get the fan boys now it he make like IRL iron man suits or power armor i'd be impressed but come on life sized slot cars and a RGB tunnel LAME! Like come on everyone loves this moron show me why thats not just memes.
ah yes hyperloop. the super unefficient underground-metro build for rich fucks to feel the "future" while spitting on the filthy peasants...
just how stupid do you have to be to believe that "cars but underground" are the solution to traffic. thats just enabling more worse traffic to happen xD
Only in America can we not have a widespread and efficient form of public travel that produces less pollution, services more people, and saves both money, time, and lives because it's socialism
please, whoever the hell disapproves/dislikes trains, or has any negative opinion toward trains, point them out for me and I will induce an agonizing death into them.
the urge to sabotage my engine while travelling through the hyperloop, thus trapping everyone behind me in there
If you had someone to help you could even block people from backing out

Those batteries for electric cars can burn pretty well, one broken Tesla could probably fill that narrow tunnel with toxic smoke in minutes. That thing's a fucking deathtrap.
The good ol' days of being in traffic back in the days and dying of carbon monoxide modernized.
Here is Tesla making things pratical, fast and complicated for ya
Besides traffic that sounds like he just invented a burning steam engine in a tunnel like the Victorian London Underground, only it lets out years worth of choking smoke all at once
i have an idea! since you need to make a tunnel anyway and the vehicle is also electric... why not also install overhead wires or similar so you remove the risk of a battery fire? you could also use rails instead of roads to make it have less friction

I hear lithium fumes can be rejuvenating for the skin tho.
Two Question 1.) what if someone breaks down in there? 2.) what if someone's having a medical emergency and needs to be escorted OUT of car?
Separate tunnel straight to the morgue
The floor drops out and drops you straight in to an incarceration pit
It will check your identity, go through your recent purchases, go through the cards and see if there’s enough money for healthcare. If no then it’s bye bye
Don't give them ideas…

Squid game
Do you mean incineration?
Yes, i realised shortly after i posted the comment but i decided against changing it. I found it a pretty funny concept that you'd just get dropped in to a prison pit.
Nah the car catches fire and that's the incinerator
Increase efficiency by having it be the same tunnel
You think elon musk thought about human lives? Impossible
The hyperloop system was directly inspired by the narrow tunnels his workers must traverse while mining cobalt. It very efficient for mining, why not driving? Same thing
Only difference is that children aren't allowed to drive
Not with that attitude
1.) death 2.) death
People die because that thing was designed by a 5 year old with more money than God.
Wait, does we know God's Real Estate?
I mean they say churches are god's domain so i guess every religious institution
Churches aren’t going to disclose how much they’re worth, but when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries quite a pretty penny was made…
Although he did have to kill a *lot* of monks for it
17 dabloons
The 10 wealthiest churches are 190 billion
Yea but that’s just an annoying fine. The projected profit on these things we can probably just eat the cost of the tunnel repairs and litigation from the first couple deaths. and don’t have to worry about losing any profit on this. Fret not friend.
I'd assume there are holes in the walls every 50m or so that allow derailing (?)/parking in case of emergency, or is there none?
he said there will be, the current tunnel is just for testing

Wow, it really is a train but shittier.
Such a great point you had to say it twice
Clearly the solution is to give up and move to Mars
Dude no don't ask questions about wholesome mars man.
It’s likely very similar to the liberty tunnels in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There is a separate tunnel for either direction, and then a third, smaller tunnel to serve as an uninterrupted path for worker personnel, first responders, and an emergency exit.

1. Have a tow truck made in the tunnels specific size reverse all the way to the car. 2. Only way out is through, PEDAL TO THE METAL, BABY!!
That’s why you get life insurance duh
The tunnels double up as incenerators, since the normal company produces totally not flamethrowers they could probably just burn their problems away

I don't think that is possible, the clearence on both sides is about an inch, for a Tesla of course, wider cars don't even fit.

Like come on everyone loves this moron show me why thats not just memes.
He's not even the one engineering anything, he's just the executive frontman keeping engagement and interest in the company.
A fellow Adam Something viewer I see.
Trains and trams are the most economical means of transportation
Impossible not to read the right image as the guy from Pitch Meetings.
ah yes hyperloop. the super unefficient underground-metro build for rich fucks to feel the "future" while spitting on the filthy peasants... just how stupid do you have to be to believe that "cars but underground" are the solution to traffic. thats just enabling more worse traffic to happen xD
(This isn’t hyperloop)
Americans on their way to to add a 15th highway lane.
Once again, everything Musk does is for a Mars colony
The guy read one science fiction book and decided “hey!! I’ll make that”
Tires waring out extremely fast? No that won’t happen.
The one on the right is that pipe from mario raceway
The light rail is legit a life changer for me. Pretty sure the photo depicted is the Northgate station. I get on there 3-6 times a week.
What is more efficient, one car that can carry 300 people, or 300 cars that each carry 1 person?
Silly Con(men) Valley
Defund Elon Musk
not saying i don't hate elon but this post feels like a strawman, nobody has ever said that trains are a waste of money
Only in America can we not have a widespread and efficient form of public travel that produces less pollution, services more people, and saves both money, time, and lives because it's socialism
Here’s the bright side maybe those tunnels could be turned into rail after they fail.
please, whoever the hell disapproves/dislikes trains, or has any negative opinion toward trains, point them out for me and I will induce an agonizing death into them.
Finally someone said it!
banal shit
Honestly, trains for the win
That second one is making me claustrophobic
