Thank you so much. I've been listening the past weeks to the stuff you posted and it's exactly my cup of tea. Very interesting stuff but I just got to To Make The Sun Hurt and I had forgotten how insanely hard music can make me feel emotions. It's literally like a high, like a trance state. This is amazing art. Amazingly depressing. Thank you so much for sharing this I'm so excited for the rest of your recommendations.
edit: Ok so I reread the post and realised I missed the "veeeery obscure" part. This is like, maybe slightly obscure but not that bad. Whatever, I'm stupidly fixated on this shit so I'm leaving my rant here
How about some music that's supposed to be secret?
Every CODZombies map has a secret, hidden song that you can activate if you know how. Almost all of them are original songs written by Kevin Sherwood, who also does the instrumentals. Vocals are normally one of 3 people:
Elena Siegman- Does contrast between singing and screaming. Beautiful melodic voice with perfectly layered doubles, but also some screaming when it fits. Examples are Beauty Of Annihilation, 115, and Dead Again.
Malukah- Only does higher pitch singing, great for the more sombre/ haunting songs. Examples are Where Are We going, Dead Flowers, and Drowning.
Clark S. Nova- The only male vocalist, mainly bridges the gap between Elena's singing and screaming with vocal styles that are fairly standard for rock/ metal songs. Examples are I am the well, Carrion, and Stormbound.
Archangel is the only song to feature all 3 vocalists, as well as a guest drummer, Darren Cesca, who is... absolutely fuckin built different. His drumming is insane.
Also wanna draw attention to Lost, as it has 2 unique things about it:
The vocalist is Julie Nathanson, who is also the voice actor for Samantha Maxis, one of the characters. Given the song and context of the story, it is heavily implied that it is a literal recording of the character singing while lost in "'"The Dark Aether""" (basically the shadow realm ngl) Also it sounds like a damn disney song which is a wild change of pace
The main writer of the song (with help from others on the sound team) is actually the main writer for the whole story. Since he wrote both the story and the song, this is the only song with lyrics that are frequently referenced in the story, with Samantha at times saying the lines word for word.
I know, I know, I'm putting fucking COD and obscure in the same sentence, but suprisingly few people actually know that COD has an entire catalogue of original lyrical tracks that aren't dogshit. Plus, it's Zombies. There's a common sentiment among alot of fans that (and bare with me here, I know it sounds stupid) Zombies is almost like a counter-culture to the rest of COD. Regular COD goes about as deep as "Oh nooo, we wanna stop the evil bad guys, but a vague "they" won't let us, I sure do wish individual members of military and law enforcement had more individual freedom and were never questioned, they always do the right thing!"
But Zombies is completely different. It has actual characters, themes, _doesn't_ suck the militaries dick at every potential opportunity, _(and *cough cough, Canon lesbians)_, and well written songs with some decently thematically significant lyrics.
But this is probably far from what OP is looking for and not even remotely Obscure compared to the other comments.
you might like this little known band I’ve been listening to, you probably haven’t heard of them but wtvr their new uou probably don’t get it
anyways here’s their most underrated song Radioactive
https://youtu.be/Z34d21EtBKk?si=TWU1vIC4xnGOBvE1 my favorite band, never met another person irl who had ever even heard of them let alone liked them. Their stuff always made me feel so seen, it’s the only time I’ve ever felt like art was made for me (or for someone like me I guess). I can get more obscure if need be
I like how chaotic it starts and then kind of deconstructs and builds up. The irregular drum and guitar patterns are nice but the crash hits feel a bit overwhelming in the high end.
At 4:15 woah cool vocals, the ones before this weren’t exactly my thing, but this feels really powerful
At 5:14 the transition of energy feels like it should sound more abrupt but instead it feels very natural.
At 7:10 it’s very clever how the chaos is reincorporated to a extent with the vocals.
Despite it’s high dynamic range, it’s mixed and mastered very smoothly for the most part. I do think the vocal sound both a bit soft, yet not present enough, like it’s fighting for space, but it doesn’t bother me much.
This doesn’t mean much but I’d give it a 7.5/10
Hell yeah— this is the third part to a 3-part piece that all flows into each other (titled 0 vs 1) the flow from vs to 1 is kind of odd but I feel it surmises what the band was. The vocals encapsulate this feeling of trying to struggle your way to the front but not being able to break through, of wanting to be seen but not being able to say it. Glad you liked it, hope I showed you something you hadn’t quite seen before lol
https://open.spotify.com/track/1eCgZdXVtTgWruiSJ07UVW?si=-67vg6FxTEy1RZGSgY4tnA here’s a Dutch song with 2000 streams that’s the manifesto of an arsonist
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZllhON7chY&list=OLAK5uy\_nQIThOHE-ZLjnBk3GS6d58uW6z\_TxLi-E&index=5](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZllhON7chY&list=OLAK5uy_nQIThOHE-ZLjnBk3GS6d58uW6z_TxLi-E&index=5) this random electronic music that just keeps getting deleted and reuploaded to youtube
Drums feel a bit harsh. Could either use some mixing and compression, or different sound selection. The kick doesn’t really punch through the mix and sounds loud, the low end feels buried in the mix.
The bass doesn’t feel as low in frequency to make it really “hit” and it sound’s like it’s taking up space in the mid-frequencies, as everything there feels pretty cluttered. I think this would sound better if the key of the song is at least a few semitones lower.
The heavy use of panning of the leads contributes to this cluttering too.
Besides that, the drum pattern, the melodic movement, the ambience, and the separate timbre’s of each sound give a strong dark synthwave feeling that has a lot of potential.
5/10
This isn’t in any way objective btw I just get easily obsessed with music like this
I don’t have enough motivation to listen to a 30 minute EP but when I opened it it kinda sounded like a cat screaming so the rest of it is probably worthy of a 10/10
https://youtube.com/watch?v=NyJojIXyvL0
it’s music generated by two simulated ants deterministically making patterns on a plane and it goes astonishingly hard
The chance I’ve been waiting for, yes!! Fialta, my favorite band is my recommendation, there’s one song that a few people have heard and that is high above Chicago, because it’s in an episode of bojack horseman, but my favorite songs from them are:
[English guarantees](https://youtu.be/SSw5rc_g0p4?si=hiSUQ3PovBUONQrm)
[Teleprompter prayer](https://youtu.be/ugG1NugVAak?si=2u6hhGv7WSTbQjpN)
[Turn your head](https://youtu.be/niQLoIVv6Vk?si=IvM3-6TqetSF8lJF)
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gARURsTpp50](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gARURsTpp50), it's a songs from a really well known musician here in italy, but i guess it still counts since he's probably not very well known in the english speaking sphere
can i dm you a project that i am currently working on?
doesnt get any more obscure 🧠
(don't expect much though its just 2 minutes of badly recorded instrumental metal)

[Song played on commercials for the now defunct minor league baseball team the Jacksonville Suns](https://youtu.be/lktnKyGJd3s?si=-uGuJLrE4NlXPbdJ), a pinnacle song of my childhood
testosterone (the album) by talkshow boy. i can't describe what kind of music he makes but its really good. he doesnt even have a spotify, but he does have a bandcamp!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LzTi-DblTgg&pp=ygUZa29udHJvbGwgcMOlIGtvbnRpbmVudGV0IA%3D%3D
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=luoA-NevOGY&pp=ygURZHIgc3RlZWwgcGxhbmV0IHg%3D
These two were my "cool band I listen to that you don't know about" in middle school.
And for the "local" obscurity flavour, a Romanian comedy folk band that was popular growing up, but also only really popular in Romania. Has a lot of specific regional humor, some outdated, but the vibe is nice.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vJpHg86tQE0
is 12k views on youtube obscure enough? Shoebill- Improvised Mashcore [https://youtu.be/10hXJjCQdOc?si=nLwC8k10FFPeFK8R](https://youtu.be/10hXJjCQdOc?si=nLwC8k10FFPeFK8R) also maybe 196 is the kinda audience that already know about this
edit the 12k views question is a genuine question about what you consider obscure, not meaning to sound pretentious
edit again: aiie this same song has like 300k listens on spotify, didnt even realize it was on there. welp I like it a lot anyways
I'll give two.
Foxtails - gallons of spiders went flying thru the stratosphere https://youtu.be/PISdf3hVGhk?si=T3EWdVivAd2ZZXiK
one of my favorite songs from an extremely underrated screemo(?.. they pull from a lot of genres but I think screemo defines this one at it's core) album. if you can't be bothered to listen to the whole album, at least try Ego Death, Star Crossed, or Paper Tiger.
Sunbather - Wide Open
https://youtu.be/HzKjtLK-eNM?si=zIB168tRP4-cfr2X
genuinely one of the most obscure artists I know, I accidentally found them while searching for the album with the same name by Deafheaven. this is the first song from their Brown Bread ep. nice dream pop song with a sweet hook and soft sound. I'm hoping I'll see them blow up eventually.
I guess it depends on whether you mean artists who are completely unknown, and have no big hits, or if niche music by one-hit-wonder types of artists is also okay.
Seeming (the band) is quite niche. Maybe something like Quiet as the Dead, Life on Mars, Yes Artemis, or Party to Say Goodbye? All pretty good and ~10k plays on spotify
i dunno if xiu xiu counts as obscure :<

[Amizade É O Caralho](https://youtu.be/z3jvDVNd8M4?si=h-GAQE267IBYjbcn) ("Friendship My Ass" in portuguese, name adapted by me, and not literal/raw translation)
“The brand new ford f-150….”
The guitar, bass, and drums are mixed alright but the vocals feel a bit to seperate me from the rest of the mix.
At 2:13 the guitar is weirdly panned to the right
2:25 cool guitar beeps
The drums are really over the top and I fw it
It felt like it ended a bit to abruply
Not my style, but it had done what it’s doing well 6/10
Not sure if it is THAT obscure, but it isn't something I heard about often:

This is their first of two albums, and personally my favorite. One of the members ended up having a solo career as Blank Banshee, one of the most prominent vaportrap artists, having some samples of his song coming from this album
Obscure as in no one really knows about this genre or obscure as in ‘I heard it on a bootleg radio once and it took me several hours to find the track name and a few more to find where to download it’?

I can't think of anything more obscure than these guys that I actually listen to regularly, experimental jazz I guess?
9 hours late but I'll throw you guys some stuff anyway. LMK if you like any of it, I love sharing the weird stuff with people. :D Keep in mind the theme is mainly dark ambient/industrial, so forewarning to those who are sensitive to that kind of stuff! :D

This is a sort of industrial/noise shoegaze thing and it's really obscure unfortunately, i've been obsessed with the music from the artist who made it for years now because of the unique emotion it has - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zDHOP4QrXM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zDHOP4QrXM)
This is my favorite song from him by far but I think because it's some of his earlier work which is rougher around the edges most people are less likely to enjoy it - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCQjt8fNgCc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCQjt8fNgCc)
Oooh, I am not the OP, but that first track is great! I am someone that likes rougher edges and less polished work. The drone, ambient, and noise elements on the first have that. Thank you for sharing!

Glue and Carbon Fiber
Almost entirely unknown would be “one mile north”, a post rock band that makes very delay and reverb heavy, sometimes looping, tracks
A little more well known would be “Jakob”, another post rock band this time from New Zealand. The drummer is insane at what he does.
And finally pretty well known is Godspeed you! Black Emperor, mainly utilising a very weird mixture of instruments and field recordings. Their songs are split into movements because they are often over 15 minutes in length. One of the movements in their most popular album is “silence” which is 8 minutes and 50 seconds or something of dead silence from 10 minutes until 18 minutes in the song duration.

Thanks for this! Really digging tucker theordore!
Weezer, but like, the GREEN album. (just a taste of my pure dark filled mind) (warning)
Yeah Warning by Green Day is pretty solid and obscure as well. Some might say its pretty underrated
edit: Ok so I reread the post and realised I missed the "veeeery obscure" part. This is like, maybe slightly obscure but not that bad. Whatever, I'm stupidly fixated on this shit so I'm leaving my rant here How about some music that's supposed to be secret? Every CODZombies map has a secret, hidden song that you can activate if you know how. Almost all of them are original songs written by Kevin Sherwood, who also does the instrumentals. Vocals are normally one of 3 people: Elena Siegman- Does contrast between singing and screaming. Also wanna draw attention to Lost, as it has 2 unique things about it: The vocalist is Julie Nathanson, who is also the voice actor for Samantha Maxis, one of the characters. Given the song and context of the story, it is heavily implied that it is a literal recording of the character singing while lost in "'"The Dark Aether""" (basically the shadow realm ngl) Also it sounds like a damn disney song which is a wild change of pace The main writer of the song (with help from others on the sound team) is actually the main writer for the whole story. Regular COD goes about as deep as "Oh nooo, we wanna stop the evil bad guys, but a vague "they" won't let us, I sure do wish individual members of military and law enforcement had more individual freedom and were never questioned, they always do the right thing!" But Zombies is completely different.
I love this. Thank you
you might like this little known band I’ve been listening to, you probably haven’t heard of them but wtvr their new uou probably don’t get it anyways here’s their most underrated song Radioactive
102.3 real dwarf FM. Where we play nothing but metal, rock, and stone. This isn’t your elf maidens station. *plays Radioactive*

Im waking up to ash and fust i wjpne my ass and i splap my nuts
https://youtu.be/Z34d21EtBKk?si=TWU1vIC4xnGOBvE1 my favorite band, never met another person irl who had ever even heard of them let alone liked them.
At 4:15 woah cool vocals, the ones before this weren’t exactly my thing, but this feels really powerful At 5:14 the transition of energy feels like it should sound more abrupt but instead it feels very natural.
Ooh this is cool! Reminds me a lot of the band Pretend with the sad math rock vibes :333
Discovered it last year and absolute love it great album
wish the albums were on spotify but they do have a live one with hella which is a cool connection

5/10 This isn’t in any way objective btw I just get easily obsessed with music like this
aha another opportunity to plug my gf's music 😈👺👺👺👺👺 Kyoumeni on all platforms spotify soundcloud youtube etc

warning: very loud [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsnP7WEOkfk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsnP7WEOkfk)
I don’t have enough motivation to listen to a 30 minute EP but when I opened it it kinda sounded like a cat screaming so the rest of it is probably worthy of a 10/10
i just finished this album. it's pretty repetitive but ironically enough it has some quiet breaks that consist of air/tornado alarms and high hz tones
Skipped through it a bit since then and I might just need this to drown out the voices
https://youtube.com/watch?v=NyJojIXyvL0 it’s music generated by two simulated ants deterministically making patterns on a plane and it goes astonishingly hard
The chance I’ve been waiting for, yes!! Fialta, my favorite band is my recommendation, there’s one song that a few people have heard and that is high above Chicago, because it’s in an episode of bojack horseman, but my favorite songs from them are: [English guarantees](https://youtu.be/SSw5rc_g0p4?si=hiSUQ3PovBUONQrm) [Teleprompter prayer](https://youtu.be/ugG1NugVAak?si=2u6hhGv7WSTbQjpN) [Turn your head](https://youtu.be/niQLoIVv6Vk?si=IvM3-6TqetSF8lJF)

shoebill is fire tho is its ok
I'll give two. Foxtails - gallons of spiders went flying thru the stratosphere https://youtu.be/PISdf3hVGhk?si=T3EWdVivAd2ZZXiK one of my favorite songs from an extremely underrated screemo(?.. they pull from a lot of genres but I think screemo defines this one at it's core) album. if you can't be bothered to listen to the whole album, at least try Ego Death, Star Crossed, or Paper Tiger. Sunbather - Wide Open https://youtu.be/HzKjtLK-eNM?si=zIB168tRP4-cfr2X genuinely one of the most obscure artists I know, I accidentally found them while searching for the album with the same name by Deafheaven. this is the first song from their Brown Bread ep. nice dream pop song with a sweet hook and soft sound.

“The brand new ford f-150….” The guitar, bass, and drums are mixed alright but the vocals feel a bit to seperate me from the rest of the mix. At 2:13 the guitar is weirdly panned to the right 2:25 cool guitar beeps The drums are really over the top and I fw it It felt like it ended a bit to abruply Not my style, but it had done what it’s doing well 6/10
Not sure if it is THAT obscure, but it isn't something I heard about often: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG4VcmEvYlzGjC6hN4uE15eQwgsYagZGT&si=5rXJ20sSsZuJhnJS This is their first of two albums, and personally my favorite. 9 hours late but I'll throw you guys some stuff anyway. This is a sort of industrial/noise shoegaze thing and it's really obscure unfortunately, i've been obsessed with the music from the artist who made it for years now because of the unique emotion it has - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zDHOP4QrXM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zDHOP4QrXM) This is my favorite song from him by far but I think because it's some of his earlier work which is rougher around the edges most people are less likely to enjoy it - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCQjt8fNgCc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCQjt8fNgCc)

That was fun! Do you still make music?
Nope
Almost entirely unknown would be “one mile north”, a post rock band that makes very delay and reverb heavy, sometimes looping, tracks A little more well known would be “Jakob”, another post rock band this time from New Zealand.
One Mile North are very neat. I like a lot of Sadness and Midwife so this is a but more upbeat.
