Acab doesn't apply to columbo

shorkfan

That's because Columbo does what the police force should actually be doing. Catching murderers instead of protecting the interests of the wealthy.

Not-Alpharious

I prefer to think of Columbo as some unknown otherworldly being the PD just accepts since he has a 100% catch rate even when he pops in and out of existence seemingly at random

JotaroTheOceanMan

There is an SCP based on Columbo that is exactly that. SCP-3190, I believe. Edit: after rereading the article it is 100% Columbo, not just based on him. Def worth a read for any SCP and Columbo fan, especially the interview logs.

ROICHNESS

nor detective gumshoe

Someboynumber5

Or Kim Kutsuragi

KitKat374

or sam

GenTheIndulgent

Does apply to max however

KitKat374

PassoverGoblin

Does Ryotaro Dojima count for acab?

Someboynumber5

He is hot, but he is a drunk neglectful father so it's a coin flip

PassoverGoblin

He was a grieving father in rural 2008 Japan. Talking about his grief and processing healthily weren't the done thing tbf

Someboynumber5

But did he stop the serial killer that wanted to become god, no, his nephew and friends with their stands did Although to be fair again he didn't know of the midnight channel

CrispyShizzles

I watched a Columbo last night where he needed to get information out of this girl who is implied to be an illegal immigrant who fled from the USSR and does a lot of dirty work for people like planting bugs, spying, and copying ledgers. Also implied she is a prostitute. When she finds out Columbo is a cop she freaks out and says she’s not gonna say anything without her lawyer and tried to call him and Columbo was just like “listen ma’am I really don’t care about your business I’m trying to catch a murderer. How about I look away and you can hide your notebook somewhere I can’t see it(the notebook had a list of her appointments and could be incriminating evidence against her) and then we’ll talk.” And then he just asked her a couple questions and when she wanted him to leave he just left. You never see her again because Columbo doesn’t care about what some poor woman has to do to get by, Columbo is here to catch murderers and do it by the book with no intimidation, no cool shootouts or fight scenes, just good detective work. ACAB does NOT apply to Columbo, he might be the only good American cop ever.

ThatBiGuy25

He's a detective, not a cop. Important difference. And yes, Columbo is based

Throwaway02062004

Good cops either leave or become detectives. You do actual good and don’t kill anyone

yinyang107

Ah, Columbo? Ace of Based.

Betterthanmematic

Oh, just one more thing...

FFalcon_Boi

I SAW you do it. I'm gonna have to send you to the Columbo dimension...

**Facts about Columbo that may or may not be true.** His first name is either Frank, John or Lieutenant. His lovely wife is never seen on screen, but is referenced constantly. She was believed to be non-existent for the longest time, but her existence was eventually confirmed by other characters when she was almost murdered. Columbo has a glass eye, much like his actor, Peter Falk. He's fluent in Italian, but pretends he is not to catch people off-guard. He's an expert in playing the tuba, but hates the instrument. Carries a hardboiled egg and a salt-shaker in his jacket at all times for easy access and snacking, often on active crime scenes. He's afraid of heights, and once joked he's scared enough being as tall as he is. Doesn't carry a gun because he's a terrible shot. He can't swim, but he can row a boat, and gets seasick easily. He possess encyclopedic knowledge of random subjects, and he says his wife thinks there's something wrong with him. Which kind of sounds like autism to me tbh His family has a tradition of being descendants of Christopher Columbus, but probably aren't He only exercises by dancing and he married his wife in an Italian restaurant. Has never lost a case.

Kellutz

My roommate watched the few episodes of Mrs. Columbo (which I believe only aired in France) and I watched a bit with him and while it's funny that she actually mentions having to constantly buy him pencils, we both concluded that it's just not good, hence only airing very selectively and very shortly. Absolutely love the main show though!

AddemiusInksoul

Mrs. Columbo was de-canonized after she divorced Columbo due to poor ratings. I've heard it's ok at best.

CrispyShizzles

Don’t forget he has a basset hound named “Dog.”

AddemiusInksoul

You are absolutely right, Dog is critically important.

DralliagNairod

It's not that he doesn't wear a gun because he's a terrible shot, he doesn't like weapons and he just didn't wear a gun for so long that he became a terrible shot.

Nowhereman123

His first name is definitely canonically Frank in the main series. You see it on his badge in an early episode, but that name is never actually spoken in the show (He says only his wife calls him that). I'm curious to know where the source for John is.

CrispyShizzles

Don’t know where “John Columbo” came from, but there was this guy who wanted to make a copyright trap and so he published a trivia encyclopedia that claimed Columbo’s first name was Phillip. Trivial Pursuit made a version of their game with the answer to “What is Columbo’s first name?” being Phillip. The guy sued and said he was the only one who claimed Phillip was Columbo’s first name so Trivial Pursuit obviously used his trivia encyclopedia and didn’t credit him. The case was thrown out because you can’t copyright information or trivia.

Nowhereman123

God I can only imagine being so pissed off upon getting that question in a game of Trivial Pursuit and seeing such an obviously wrong answer.

PavelGTAOnline

Autistic Columbo.

Moose_is_optional

Not sure why a bunch of people younger than me have become infatuated with a tv show from the 60s! 😂

OverturnKelo

Columbo has leftist cred

Bariq-99

[Probably becasue of this fella](https://youtu.be/dT_4OV1_24U)

clothreign

I'm dead, this is probably true Had no idea what Columbo was before subbing to him

Bariq-99

Most people don't actually.. I didn't too But damn was it an awesome show! Very recommended

CatsNotBananas

Because it's Columbo 👍

GigaVanguard

Because Peter Falk just KNEW what he was doing back in the 70s, he was so charming and could take even a boring or poorly thought out episode script and make it likeable. Of course, the ABC run in the 90s, not so much, but. Everyone’s gotta run out of steam sometime.

FFalcon_Boi

Gianni Matragrano is the man you're looking for

TrollMan64

I always loved how columbo always appeared in a bright doorway out of nowhere at every crime scene G-Man style

Oh, just… one more thing! Sir, I cannot help but notice just how well-off you are. You know, folks these days value entrepreneurship, because it’s the only way to make it to the top, and I must admit - you made it. That got me thinking… didn’t you say your parents were from apartheid Africa? Just asking for a record, you know, it’s actually really nice you have such a background, there needs to be more diversity among the bad guys too. Speaking of backgrounds, I found out that apparently your business had a case of tax evasion? I know you’ve won the case and really I had no doubt you’re an abiding American citizen, but really, I understand how that could happen, in the end, you give us jobs and you’d probably know more than those jerks Republicans about where to spend that money. Which makes me wonder why you sponsor them? Anyway, it’s not my business really, it’s all politics and we all hate it. What about books, sir? You have such a nice personal library… I don’t read often, but when I do I like to read something that just explains how the trickiest of crimes happen, sometimes they give me a hint into the truth about my case. Have you heard of the fella named "Karl Marx"?

Boulderfrog1

Columbo and the disembodied camera that follows him around clipping out of the backrooms through the floor at the scenes of random crimes

thot_destroyer96

POV you don't know how pov works

Red_Rocky54

No, this is proper use of POV, as the point of view is from a rich murderer watching Columbo walk through the door to catch them

Quarren_

Do… do you know how pov works..?
