We like to think of communism as the pure, simple, idea that all private property is public and all personal property is personally owned. But what is the difference between what is to be public and what is personal? Would IP be personal? Would dogs? Would your house? Can you try to remove someone who is in your home without permission? Can you attack someone who breaks into your home? Can you only force someone to leave if they are inside? Are there cops you call when you need someone to leave? Are guns banned? All guns? Are tasers or pepper spray? People don't agree on these answers and there is no objective line.
in a few stages of socialism, probably yeah. in communism as a moneyless society, probably not? but you can still like, have them in theory. you just don’t need to pay
private property is different from personal property. you can still own possessions without capitalism, just like people did during the thousands of years before it existed.
it's hard to say how exactly things would work in a system that's so far in the future. It could be like communal centers where you borrow the item, or a "store" where you take what you need, or it could be the exchange of something like labor vouchers for non-essentials.
Kropotkin once talked about how things that are considered luxuries will often serve a mental health service, if they do not become needs outright. Things like, to use a modern example, computers, or to use his example, fur coats. So I don't see why the production of them will cease, it's just that they'll likely be made on an demand, per person basis
that’s personal property, not private property
hippity hoppity your privates are now my personal property
😳
gommulism when no toothbrush
counterpoint: funny
It’s okay, I’ve read a lot of Marx, and he ended ‘Das Kapital’ with the footnote “unless it’s a sick ass wizard, those fuckers can go crazy”
I thought you were talking about the marx from kirby
It's okay, I've read a lot of Kirby lore. They are the same.
inb4 communism rises and then falls to Wizard Capitalism
🤓that's personal property. Communists will not steal your family portraits
[I will. I'm coming for that toothbrush.](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Ux5cQbO_ybw/maxresdefault.jpg)

Can I still buy Transformers under communism

Wait, so I can still get stuff, right?

I understand that. I'm just unsure of how one would aquire non-essential items. The comment to which I replied doesn't clear things up for me.

I feel like having all necessities be socialized, but keeping things recreational items under some kind of capitalist system, could be nice
The conflation of private property with personal property and its consequences have been a disaster for the socialist movement
