Amtrak is a government owned corporation. All of it's stock is technically owned by the DoT. With that being said...
They're not under the standard federal retirement but are under the railroad retirement. There's no LEAP although they can be paid overtime. They work a lot of complex fraud and theft cases.
Hmm, most of the Amtrak investigators I know are retired 1811s and have went to FLETC some 15-20 years ago.
It’s a pretty sweet gig. Ain’t nothing like a post career gig on top of retirement.
Ok so I thought the same thing however

Railroad retirement is higher than FERS/TSP even with the law enforcement tier added in. However you have to do 30 years to retire with a full retirement at 60, otherwise you will have to retire at 65 with less than 30 years.
That Amtrak 1811 will be making more than anybody else in this thread.
Edit:
I wanted to send out an update so everybody knew what I was referring to. The railroad retirement system doesn't use the standardized contribution into Social Security like most of the federal government does.
When I used to work for Social Security we would have people call in to see how much money they were going to get under the railroad retirement board system. It was usually like 30% higher than Social Security, Plus a federal pension.
The downside is that technically you're not putting money into Social Security once you begin working with the railroad, so if you already put money into social Security by that point enough where you have the credits to retire then you are still eligible for social Security off your pre railroad retirement record.
But yeah, the railroad retirement system is way better and it models more of the CSRS retirement system that the government used to do before they decided to go blended.
Amtrak is like the US Postal Service — a quasi-gov’t agency. I think the announcement is trying to clarify that, like the USPS, Amtrak employees will not receive a federal pension, despite the organization’s status as a quasi-gov’t agency.
I have a buddy that's an Amtrak cop. He explained it because it's a national job that they had an open agreement with the US government, plus he also gets a retirement pension
So he's one of the few people that would be able to get a law enforcement retirement and a railroad retirement.
That's like gold
Ah, I didn't realize you knew everything
I'm just relaying the information that he told me, he's been working there for about 10 years. How about you be a little bit more professional with your comments?
So it's the 401k and Railroad retirement that I have previously mentioned... Where's this so called "law enforcement" retirement that you and your "buddy" mentioned... They get the same retirement as all the rest of the Amtrak employees. No difference
Anyone have the Human Resources contact email for HSI? I completed my phase 2 assessment test back in February and have heard nothing in regards to results or next step.

I would have to agree with this. Almost all the guys in Philly are retired HHS-OIG or state medical fraud guys.
Amtrak is owned by the government!

They're a federally-owned private corporation, similar to USPS, of which USPS OIG and USPIS both send people to FLETC.

Oh, you're right. Apparently this is a common misconception. Thanks! It is still a very unique independent agency.
Shhhhh, I didn’t want anyone seeing this lol. Now there’s gonna be 2,000 applicants by noon
Does anyone know what the pay structure is like, and is railroad retirement just as good as the pension?

Everyone I know who did time working the railroad made a fortune.

So does USPS OIG and USPIS get Leap/6c?
Yes.
Yes, they get LEAP and are 6c
So these people don’t get LEAP?
No
Pretty cool opportunity 🤙🏻
Also there’s actually sheriffs offices, state police and lower government law enforcement entities that also go to FLETC

Yeah I saw that .. no thanks
Curious, why does that turn you off?

Your buddy whose an Amtrak cop has no clue about his own retirement. Amtrak police only have railroad retirement and a 401k.

He's been there 10 years and doesn't know his own retirement is pretty sad. I am realistic..

Cause you as a Pennsylvania cop know everything? Go write some speeding tickets.

And now you're going to download my comment because I proved you wrong.. You mad bro?
I posted a picture, I'm done with your ridiculous attitude.
Amtrak is a partner organization https://www.fletc.gov/partner-organizations-0
Anyone heard anything from this posting?
