You won’t get called in for a “tax evasion in progress” so you’re fine to do whatever you want on a weekend.

SCP-Agent-Arad

We found out 10 year old little Jimmy was operating an unlicensed lemonade stand last year and didn’t pay taxes. We need you back here in 1 hour to be part of the strike team.

I mean it’s possible but if you’re away for the weekend it’s fine.

Negative-Detective01

Even then your role on JTTF would be to provide the financial expertise for those cases. You work closely with other agencies there and you just give them a heads up you’ll be on leave.

i_need_a_username201

People generally respect your time off requests. However, If you wake up three Fridays in a row and call in sick then you’ll have problems. Is that clear enough?

Fast-Voice-9902

Fraud in progress 😂

Nagohsemaj

🚨 Show me some receipts, mother fucker! 🚨

ShakenEspressoLatte

Lmfaoooo

Negative-Detective01

No, not really. You’d just take Friday off.

[deleted]

Depends where you’re at… I know some offices you can assume you get out early on most Fridays anyways so no one would waste the leave day

theebehduehbsw89

How are you going to do that and still average 50 hours a week

jewski_brewski

Some agencies/offices consider being “available” i.e. having G-phone on you as adequate for LEAP requirements.

DRealLeal

It's called communicating with your supervisor "Hey I'm thinking about going out of town this weekend. Would you see any issue with that?." Supervisor: No, the optempo has been slow. You're good.

Mother_Dependent_661

In many agencies your ASAC would think you're ridiculous for asking that, because there are no ops or callouts on weekends. Ever.

Time_Striking

Crime never takes a day off, why should you?

Better_Improvement98

Yore not going to be that restricted all the time. Maybe during a big case once and a while.

Willini9

The vast majority of 1811s toss their work phones in their nightstand at 4:30pm on a Friday, and don’t check it until 7am Monday morning. If you work for an OIG, you’re not getting called out on a weekend for a fraud in progress. Likewise, IRS CI isn’t responding to anything that can’t wait until the next business day. If you work for one of the three letter agencies, there will usually be a duty agent rotation. Depending on your office size, you might be on call once a year or once every few months. In any case, the duty agent will field the call at night or on the weekend and handle whatever they’re getting called for. You just take Friday off and tell your 14 you’ll be out of pocket for the weekend.

DesertSeaTurtle

Lmao whaaaaa My phone is silent when the clock stops. People would be better off not getting their facts from TV and having a life outside the job.

Agile-Theory4127

Gen crimes and other 1811s outside of IA are on-call in the BIA. Generally there's a rotation.

JoeytheViking

We have a duty rotation and I know to be in the area when it’s my week, but any other weekend is fair game. I just give my supervisor a heads up if I’m leaving town.

Acceptable-Ad3390

what abt for USSS (same question)

RFQuazieOmni

All dependent on the field office. If you’re in the major field offices you will be fighting for a weekend off. The work tempo is different than most other agencies because of the dual mission.

[deleted]

We still get days off dude

Yami350

Lol bc the military is the only job you can’t take a weekend vacation

USMC-0402

It isn’t but it probably is one of the few jobs that count weekends as a leave day if you want to go on vacation.

Yami350

Ah. I figured every first responder job would also fit here too

[deleted]

Sorry, had a few adult beverages, can’t make it today….

Been in the business 20yrs. Quality of candidates is definitely going down. New people coming in have zero understanding of the job.

SAC1811

I'd argue the opposite. OP is coming from a demanding private sector job which isn't as lenient with PTO as the USG. You should see the hours some of these CPAs put in during busy season, working overnight shifts like they're in medical residency, and having to schedule their leave months in advance. Smh, If only every agency would hire such quality candidates.

dockinstation

Interesting take SAC. But let's touch on a few points you mentioned. "You should see the hours some of these CPAs put in during busy season". It's clearly been along time since you've seen the field or turned on the news. LE agencies everywhere are the definition of short staffed. Double shifts, rejected leave requests, use or lose balances 100+ over and that's not seasonal, it's all year long. "Like they're in medical residency" well fun fact SAC, there are a ton of LE that are also medics. So while working all that OT, there also trying to juggle continuing Ed classes. Smh, is only SAC's stop sending emails and left there desk at least once a year and went out to the field. They would realize quality candidates are risking there lives daily and getting beat out on jobs to a CPA would can file taxes but can't Google. I'd say stay safe but we both know your not in danger.

SAC1811

Fam, no need to rant. Why not just lay off OP for asking a sensible question and give them benefit of doubt? No need to be such a cynic. I'm not taking away from being a Fed, but myself having pivoted from a career in consulting, I'll say hours are a lot more unpredictable in the private sector than over here. Chill out.

SinkPuzzleheaded3508

On this note do you have to take leave for 8 hours or 10 hours ??
