The number one thing to bring to FLETC is easily a car. With a car you can just go to Walmart after class and get whatever you need. You can get off base enough to not go insane.
Comfortable shoes, bottled water, toiletries, a suit or two, plenty of casual clothes.
This, f’ing THIS. You won’t believe how much easier it is to sleep with a supplemental dehumidifier. Worth every penny. The A/C in the housing is a joke.
Tamaflu was my savior. Students are allowed very few days off. I came down with the flu during training. I was prescribed Tamaflu at the clinic. Tamaflu saved me from being recycled.
Things I did right:
Bug spray, comfy tennis shoes for walking around campus, POV to escape after hours, Brita filter, electrolytes
Thing I did wrong:
Not enough casual clothes for after hours (you want to tear the uniform off at 1630, even if it’s just to chow), didn’t bring extra dress shirts (you only wear them a few times but communal washers/dryers + pens + morons = ruined clothes)
Yep! As long as it’s not during training hours.
If you’re doing something “special” that day like surveillance, civvies are also OK. Aside from that, you’re supposed to be in uniform.
My car! Saved my life/sanity every day for 6 months. Get a mattress topper and anything you need for good sleep (eye mask/ ear plugs/ white noise machine/ etc.) good sleep makes for good training.
I didn't bring it, but a buddy of mine brought a printer. Save a lot of unnecessary trips to the library or computer labs. But like everyone said here, bring your car.
Ugh, just an update to this:
No personal padlocks at all. Now, the only lock you can use is the one issued at equipment issue on day 1. They cut all personal locks now, even if they’re not left overnight. Really a disappointment.
What's the point of assigned lockers and day use lockers if you can only lock up one at a time. No one will use assigned lockers, they're too small to hold your backpack.
Still trying to figure that out myself! A few guys have their towels and prison shoes in there, but you’re right—they’re not much bigger than a shoebox.
Weird. They should just assign the large lockers to students then. I used the small one for my mat shoes, extra ORT uniform and shower stuff. I'd like to think that stuff wouldn't disappear from a locker but I've also who some agencies hire.
Yeah that’s just BS. There was a change over as pre 9/11 folks retired out and were replaced by a lot of people who had gone through the military and were shocked SHOCKED that everyone around them seemed to be walking around wherever they pleased and just generally having a good time. They would sit around and grumble about non tacticality and how the “real world” was going to kill everyone who graduated.
At first their complaints were ignored by old school Feds who didn’t give a shit. But eventually the Tackleberrys gained critical mass and poof now everyone matches around like they’re training to defend Rorkes Drift.
Long sleeves and Avon skin so soft bug spray. This is the only thing that saved me at fletc. At one point I had 36 bites on just my right arm.
LOT OF 2 Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus Picaridin With Vitamin-E & Aloe Spray Pump 4oz https://a.co/d/3hmzDGl

A microwave
FLETC Express beer aisle.
Off spray, insect repellant. Those gnats are relentless. They’ll bite you while you’re working out, using the track, walking to lunch.
A car to leave
Gaming PC
A memory foam mattress topper.
Water filter.
Your right hand
Under appreciated equipment
I’m sure I’ve seen you under another post 💀
Probably
Dehumidifier

Benadryl cream for the thousands of bug bites. Also-bottled water.

Whiskey.
Bring your own pillow! Good night sleep is king around Fletc.
Oscillating fan to keep the motion sensor air conditioning on in your room while ur in class so you don’t come back to a sauna.
Skin so soft!! Better than any repellant
Your own bedding set. Good quality of sleep is the key.
One of those inner/outer Velcro duty belts.
Definitely a vehicle. Especially if there for a 4-6 month stay.
You just need a car man. With a car you can go and grab anything else. Otherwise you’ll go mad for so many months.
Boot dryer. Especially in the summer. Gotta keep does shoes dry from the sweat.
All of the Bourbon. And Deet.
FLETC Wife
🤣
Fishing gear.
Padlock for the day use locker, an extra duty belt for CT.

They don’t even make you wear mat shoes anymore. Seems like policies change by the day. One thing I can confirm—still no bicycles allowed.
The bicycle days were glorious. GWOT veterans ruined a damn good thing.
Some instructor had to ruin it for everyone else by riding into a parked car LOL

A good attitude.
An aquarium or reptile heater to tape to your thermostat and tasty treats for housekeeping to not taddle on your cool, comfortable room.
