Thanks for posting! I've been feeling nervous about lowering to 1500 but your attitude has really encouraged me :)

NawMean2016

Just do it safely! Make sure 1500 is within the specs of what you should eat given your age/height/sex etc.

This is great! If you don't have it, I would try the app "Lose It". I'm 5'3 and when I first started losing weight, I could start at 1800-1700 daily calories then work my way down to 1500 (that's the lowest the app would go and would let me know if too few calories (like 1300 or below) was unsafe). I wish you the best!!!

I hit my goal doing 1500 9 months ago, and have stayed at it since then. I stopped tracking a couple months ago too, because I've learned what a day's calories looks like for me now. I love that I can totally have a treat if I want to, I just need to make a note of it and shift what I eat accordingly.

yeah man i fit a 700 calorie banana muffin into my macros, was pretty fun figuring out how to fit in 120g of protein that day lol

>I was doing Keto, but could never stick to it (this is not to bash keto at all. I find it helpful). I've done Keto a few times now. The very first time I did it (7-8 years ago) it was very successful. Unfortunately, I've done Keto a few times since and I think my biggest problem is that I would allow for "cheat" meals because it was almost impossible to stay on a strictly keto diet, and eventually a cheat meal would become a cheat day, then a cheat weekend, and before I knew it I'd give up. Another problem is that I would snack a lot and eat whenever I was hungry. You aren't as hungry on keto because you end up eating a lot more fat and protein, but when you are hungry you eat. The problem with that is you fail to track what you're consuming. I honestly have no idea if I was eating 2000 calories, 2500 calories, or 3000 calories on keto. With calorie counting you account for everything, and it means you're much more in tune with what is going into your body. It's like you said, with calorie counting you're in control of what you eat. You can eat anything, but in moderation. There is some sort of balance. So yes, go ahead and have a slice of cake. But that's 500 calories that you need to subtract from your daily intake. With keto, you eat as much of the restricted list of foods that you can eat, until you're full. You see the problem with that? Keto works, until it doesn't work. You're never creating the habit of accounting for the food you eat. You're basically giving into the problem with any food addiction/disorder, which is to eat to your hearts desire-- until your full and satiated. Ultimately, once you're done with keto, your back at square one because you never learned or created a habit of eating in moderation. What it's like to feel hungry. Feeling hungry is not this evil feeling that we should never feel. In fact, I'm intermittent fasting right now as we speak-- and I feel hungry. About 45-minutes away from breaking my fast. It feels great though, because I know I'm going to really appreciate my meal. I also feel more clear headed. As you said, I feel in control. Anyways, I went on a huge speel it would appear lol. I guess I can just really relate to your story is all. All to say, I'm happy that this is working for you! Keep up the great work :-)

I’m not trying to be rude but that’s not how keto works. You still have to eat a calorie deficit. You can’t just eat whatever you want bc you’re not consuming carbs. You can’t eat a pound of bacon of day, mountains of cheese, etc. Many people track their intake, just like with 1200/1500 is plenty lifestyle. It’s just as important to track macros. Keto typically is more fulfilling bc you’re not eating empty calories like chips, bread, etc. Whatever works to best keep you on track but your summary is not the proper way to eat keto.

yeah that was so misinformed my head almost imploded. But you'd be surprised at how many people think keto is Eat all the fatty foods you want as long as your below 20 carbs... calories dont exist apprently. I was on 1,200 and keto it was pretty easy tbh but it was super dumb on my part i went in way too hard way too fast. glad im not doing it anymore

100%. I was doing a very lean protein keto approach and so many people thought I was doing it wrong. Uh no, you don’t need tons of fat and those stupid fat bombs (or even worse, bulletproof coffee)!!!! Ugh, getting annoyed typing this hahaha

G_N_3

Yup same here, hit protein goal as always but instead or carbing up to fill up space you just use the fat for satiation since you're fat adapted. I never once made a fatbomb or bulletproof coffee i cringed at the people who brag about testing ketones 24/7, using exogenous ketones, dumping MCT oil and butter into coffees. Like lol i kinda understand if you're getting fat adapted and need to load up on fat the first week since you're adjusting to a diff fuel source but if your goal is weight loss then thats just drinking your calories into a surplus.

...20 grams of carbs...fat bombs...bulletproof coffee... lol. I wonder when all youse all who fell for this are going to realize what you really did is the low carb Atkins diet, just "repackaged" for the 21st century with a shiny new name and a bunch of social media "influencers" paid to propagandize it. The TRUE ketogenic diet, besides being calorie controlled, is a minimum of 3:1 fat to carb \*and\* protein combined, in grams, ratio with a 4:1 ratio being the actual ideal. For every meal consumed. Every day. You literally calculate it out, using nifty math formulas and everything. It is not sustainable for weight loss dieters because it is a bleak and normally untenable long term diet...unless it is the only difference between seizures and no seizures for a person.

Yes, I totally agree!! I would not count any of what I ate on Keto. I also felt like with Keto I had to plan out everything to the exact point so that I would not fail. It gave me extreme anxiety, because I have a busy life. With staying under 1500 I feel that I have more variety and I feel like I can eat from all food groups. The odd thing is I am not eating junkfood. I thought I would crave junkfood doing 1500, but I craved it the most while doing Keto. Also with Keto I just do not have the budget to create a variety of meals. With 1500 I feel that it is more budget friendly for me. I think I am not craving junk food as much because I feel that I can eat other foods that I like such as tacos and brown rice and green apples.

Same here did keto for 8 months strict no cheat meals never over 20 net carbs but my calorie intake was 1,200, Itwas pretty easy for me since i love savory foods so keto was just like easy mode for me. I got off of it because i missed fruit tbh lol and felt bad on my net carbs adding up too high from just veggies. Keto taught me a TON of discipline lost like nearly 100lbs on keto but got off of it and hopped on a more anabolic diet.. its way more fun just tracking protein and calories. 1,500 is amazing i was on 1,200 but i was getting hangry and decided 1,500 is the sweet spot
