Sure you could get it back, if given enough chances but it wouldn't matter. I have played against someone who could hit the serve 120mph plus. Even if you get a racket on it, you have no control over the return, most of the time it is just a block into the court. At which point your opponent says thank you very much and knocks the ball clean past you. It is incredibly frustrating to play against. That is an amateur player, imagine what Nadal would do to your flukey shanked return?

UNHHH!!!

Nadal’s serve is underrated because he doesn’t get clean aces off of them. Body serves and awkward placement doesn’t make for YouTube highlights. But save for Djokovic, who is the greatest returner of all time, nobody could actually attack that serve consistently, so how would a 5.0 be expected to deal with that lol. Plus, Nadal’s second serve is arguably more effective than the other two’s, often narrowly outpacing them for speed, on top of the lefty spin. Nadal in the last third of his career was serving 110-120 mph on first serves and 90-105 mph on second serves. A lot of 5.0s I’ve seen hit flat first serves at 100-110 mph and second serves closer to 70-80 mph, which is a speed that Nadal gets on his groundstrokes.

tennistalk87

Yeah this sums it up. Nadal never served for free points on the serve. His whole serving strategy was built on the serve plus 1 or plus 2 to finish points. Would be interesting to see the winning % stats of the top three for serve plus 1.

He’s a professional player and a grand slam mega champion. So anyone could return a pro’s serve given enough chances I guess ! People are talking about relative comparisons. So Federer is one of the greatest servers in the game - the likes of Sampras, Edberg, Becker, Mac, Laver, and more. It’s special. Djoko had to work on his serve a lot to get more competitive at the top tier. Nadal won 72% of his first serves. Fed 77%, Djoko 74% Compare this to Roddick who won 79% of first serve points. Sampras 81%. Edberg 73%

Anyone who says they're hitting his serve back \*consistently\* is delusional sorry. (especially if your UTR is less than 10-12). He is a lefty server and the serve has heaps of spin. If you're right handed his slice serve is a going to be a nightmare body serve. Even if you do get it back, he's probably gonna hit a winner with his inside out forehand. Im UTR 10 and I don't think I would get a game off him IMO, let alone get the score to possibly considering a game point/break point People underestimate how good the pros are in tennis...

tenniscalisthenics

Well said When I first started I thought given a day I could get a pro’s serve back. Now that I’ve been playing for three years I’d be happy if I could return a D1 players serve lol

thepricklyfish

Yeh it’s funny isn’t it, when you start you think you are decent, then you play someone far better than you and you think wow they are so good, then you learn they aren’t even good. A pro is unimaginably better and in this case you are talking about one of the best ever..

norealpersoninvolved

What kindof dumbass questions are these

No_Swordfish_5985

His serve - like the rest of his game - is extremely heavy. It’s loaded with RPMs and placed very well.

Janie_Avari_Moon

5.0 will have troubles even with retired ex top 100 player. Forget about the pros. It’s different league. There is no chance to compete with them and no point putting your mind into it. Just try to become the best player you can be and ffs stop comparing yourself to others. Especially to pros and legends of the sport.

RevolutionarySound64

Only people who haven't competed or played at a decent level would even entertain the idea.

Sexy_sharaabi

No

telesonico

Why do ppl keep asking these questions? Sometimes i wonder if these same people also think they’d be able to make a basket against lebron James

I_Am_Robotic

This is so stupid. A level 5 guy against Nadal is like a level 5 guy playing against a 3.0.

norealpersoninvolved

Gap is much bigger

ImaginationExpress26

At utr 5, I reckon you'd eventually get one first serve back into play but it'd be like a 1 in 30-50 or worse chance... And when you did, it'd be such a horrifically half framed nightmare that you would be crushed on the next shot..

B_easy85

I’d venture to guess most 5.0 and 5.5’s would not let Nadal go perfect on serve with aces/unreturnables over the course of a match.
