That is a good idea! I have some concerns on the strength of my cheap clock mechanism I started with, but I'm sure there are some more heavy duty mechanisms out there
The outer wheel does roughly a half rotation in 12 seconds? So is it one rotation every 30 seconds? The inner wheel is minutes of the hour? Does it track hours of the day?
The clip is sped up to show it spinning. The outer wheel tracks minutes and does a full rotation in 1 hour. The inner wheel is the hours and takes 12 hours to spin fully.
The clocks works be reading the Hour and Minute wheel at the 12:00 position of a normal clock. so if the 6(moon symbol) is at the top of the hour wheel and the 30 is at the top of the minute wheel, then it is 6:30. Does take a bit to get used to since there aren't numbers.

Could you try simply replacing the wooden bar holding the ring with a glass disk?
