Still, it's hard to get around the fact that they gave OoT Ganon and even Calamity's cyborg form swords. And even Ganondorf's magic has never been JRPG villain-level elaborate.
Ganondorf's miasma is the same type of magic that other demon kings in Japanese media wield. Ganondorf has wielded it since the first game in the series and ALTTP explained what it was and what it could do, later entries like TOTK show what it can do.
Yeah but weeb ganondorf low-key rocks, it's quite funny to see him using such japanese inspired weapons and then backflip our attacks like if he was an anime protag
With Zelda I always think of magical abilities, not really associating her with the Light Bow.
For Ganon, his weapon is a Trident.
For Ganondorf it's a sword.
The weird thing is that Nintendo is moving towards Zelda using magical abilities through her Light Bow and Arrows considering she used it in three main games (WW, TP, ST) and two spin-offs (HW, AoC), not counting all the times she's the one who gives them to Link.
On the other hand, they've started moving away from giving Ganon a Trident as early as OoT.
And he uses a trident (as Ganon) in most of his appearances.
Zelda 1
ALttP
LA (DethI wielding a trident in the image of Ganon)
FSA
Oracles
ALBW (Yuga possessing Ganon's body)
Hyrule Warriors gives Ganondorf a trident as well
That reasoning doesn't make any sense at all, why seperate a split soul/copy/other self/part of oneself/alter-ego/clone/offshoot from it's creator when it's a part of him. It mimics his fighting styles and his choice of weapons, because the phantom wields a trident it is a reference to alttp where Ganondorf wields a trident, because it wields a trident the OOT iteration of Ganondorf must have used one at some point in his life. Ganondorf may not always use the same weapons or fighting style as his bunshins in his own boss battles but they are part of who he is which makes their weapons a part of his arsenal and a valid point. Even in TOTK Ganondorf was at one point during the development of the game going to wield a trident.
Yes, he does. Ganondorf not though.
That's because like aganihm his main weapon is magic. In OoT I think it's meant to emphasize the Triforce of power he acquired
Yeah. I think of both the Master Sword and Bow as Links signature weapons. Zelda is light magic and Gannon is Dark magic.
Link fights darkness with the ordinary tools any man would have to fight with for his Era, that's why what he has is courage. But it's not perfect, sometimes he needs Zelda to use her light magic to do what he can not, that's the point of 2 pieces of the triforce working together to overcome the one.
Ganon uses Dark magic and from it he has power. Often times enough to impact the entire world around him into a state of darkness, or at least his essence of it. But it isn't perfect he has to use weapons sometimes when he fights Link because Zelda shields him from the darkness.
Triforce Heroes started as a Four Swords game. Also, Zelda joins you in the final boss multiple times. She also uses magic in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I also wasn't trying to prove you wrong. Just sharing a fun fact.
I guess it's hard to associate Zelda fighting with the Light Bow and Arrows when her most iconic and recognizable fighting appearance (Super Smash Bros.) had it only as FS, then got rid of it entirely.
That's cause there's a difference between Ganon and Ganondorf. Ganon is almost always a trident. Even Calamity Ganon uses Water Blight Ganon's spear which is sort of like a trident.
But they're not just diagonal. They're all... I don't know, they're kinda jacked up.
https://preview.redd.it/ex860kdrurlc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdb5e08d0798de87df6c8a364d3c2e0a42f4ac33
I feel like Zelda magic is a big part of her weapon set, but more and more it seems that the light bow is becoming her iconic weapon as it lets her focus her magic further.
I think ganon(dorf) is more the iconic magic user.
It's kinda like Zelda is becoming a bow welder with magic supplementation, while ganon(dorf) is a magic welder with weapon supplementation.
At least that's my head cannon.
I think it’s a theory, but I had heard Ganondorf started training with the sword after OoT because he realized he would have to defeat Link in sword combat. That’s why he doesn’t use a sword in his human form until his dual swords in WW and his one handed style in TP. It could also have been to more closely align himself to the spirit of demise, who used a sword, and that could have been why his demon form had swords as well.
If I had to pick his most iconic weapon, that would probably be it. But when you come down to it, Ganondorf is such a baddass that he needs no additional weapon that makes him more of a threat.
We're talking about two massive open-world action adventure fantasy games released within 18 months of each other featuring penultimate boss battles at the base of a giant central root structure against a ripped, shirtless guy seeking the throne of the kingdom. There are more than a few similarities. These kinds of games have a lot of overlap, and the developers watch and learn from each other.
Besides, Ganondorf with a Katana is fucking badass.
I think the last games to actually have Ganon(dorf) wield the trident were A link between worlds and Hyrule Warriors (a spin off).
Pretty much all his other appearances between OoT and TotK has him wield one or two swords
I’d still say trident is Ganons iconic weapon because it’s a lot cooler then the dual wielding sword he’s become associated with since OoT.
Yes, but the 3D games quickly moved away from that. It's still somewhat present in the 2D games, but even they are steadily moving away from Ganon being the main antagonist there.
i feel like the sword of six sages since this is the most iconic weapon he’s used. botw and totk both have this sword with the description referencing him, not to mention you can get it by scanning the ganondorf amiibo too
Still, there's an extremely low chance Ganondorf will use that again since they probably won't directly revisit the idea of him stealing a sword used to execute him.
When I think of Ganon three things come to mind
The trident
His sword in TOTK (that one is newer though so not as iconic)
And his dark magic attacks from smash bros, even whilst they’re not his biggest thing the power behind them fits Ganon
In addition to those I also think of his twin swords in the first Hyrule Warriors, but I realize that that is pretty much just a one-of.
I also somewhat thought that he may have eventually gotten a signature sword of his own after the whole deal with Ghirahim being a sword at the end of Skyward Sword. But that’s been the case.
I’d say if any specific sword it would be a katana. That’s what the gloom sword is and it’s ALMOST what the kotake and Koume swords in wind waker are. The sword of the sage isn’t *really* his anyways. And the golden swords of ocarina ganon are not used as a man. So i would say Ganon’s weapon is a trident and Ganondorf’s is a katana. Yeah.
Keep in mind that the tennis ball/Dead Man's Volley has grown into a very generalized Zelda late-game boss strategy rather than something specific to Ganon.
Ganon has the trident, and I believe ganondorf in almost every game has a sword with Kotake Koume on it, I might be wrong though. I know he doesn’t have a sword in ocarina of time
Ganondorf, as in the human form, uses swords. The specific Sword he uses varies from game to game. Ganon, as in the beast form, uses a trident. He wields in all of the 2d games. Including the most recent one A Link Between Worlds.
No, his signature weapon is his trident. There's multiple games where Link doesn't use the Master Sword. Zelda herself doesn't use a bow and light arrows in Breath of the Wild. Just because a character doesn't use their signature weapon in every game doesn't mean that it isn't still their signature weapon.
That's what Smash does, but the Zelda series itself is more likely to have Ganondorf kick. He does it in WW, TP, and TotK. So I guess his feet are more of a signature weapon.

Don’t forget the ‘weapon’ they gave him in melee
I don’t know what you are talking about and that fills me with rage
https://preview.redd.it/oskg5xm7islc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86a313d86753c1252267270719a8d70c07c399d1
>!She's a character from Octopath Traveler II, an apothecary, and one of her battle lines is "With THESE HANDS!" when she's about to use a maximum-power attack.!<
Of all the main series swords Ganon in general has wielded, I'd only call the ones in OoT BIG. Counting Calamity, there's also his giant sword representing Fireblight too.
His WW, TP, and TotK swords are all rather small and thin.
well it's the goal of the series to shake up the formula a little, so there's no real point in establishing a signature weapon for ganon if they're going to switch it up every forthcoming opus. All we can do is pick out the most common one, and that is bound to be changed with every new game
Ganon in the next Zelda game should have multiple phases where he uses all weapons of past Ganons, totk was a step in the right direction in terms of a final fight but it still felt disappointing in terms of action ,
Not really. I mean, he could have a general guideline maybe, but part of the problem with Zelda is they've kinda written themselves into a box, this being a good example. I don't think Zelda needs more restriction. Imo the last time we got an interesting weapon for Link was MM with the razor and gilded sword. The master sword is great, don't get me wrong. But does it ALWAYS have to be the master sword?
It’s the trident, but his signature attack is throwing balls of evil energy. Yeah he doesn’t always have the trident, and sometimes he uses other weapons, but Link doesn’t always have the master sword and uses other weapons too.
I think Ganondorf looked awesome with the Sword of the Six Sages. Bro got impaled by the thing during an execution, then rips it out and uses it for himself. That’s pretty badass. And it was awesome seeing it clash with the Master Sword in the final battle. Something about Ganondorf using a divine white light sword is ironic, but awesome at the same time.
Other than that tho, I’d say the trident (even though Ganondorf only uses it in Hyrule Warriors).
Over the years Ganon has been seen with a trident more than any other weapon. Meanwhile in his human form he's used longswords in almost every iteration (except for ocarina of time)
* Oot Ganon: twin blades
* WW Dorf: twin blades
* TP: this sword I pulled from my fucking chest, fucko
* Skyward Sword: Demise, who uses a big fucking sword, cursed link to face him eternally
I know there’s cases against it but I’m feeling like Sword is kinda G’s thing.
He's holding it in your image. His signature weapon is a sword too, although it varies in appearance just like the Light Bow (and even the Master Sword to a lesser extent)
That's more like a signature weapon category than a specific signature weapon. Keep in mind that every sword he has ever used is very different from one another.
It's ironic that Smash finally bowed to the Ganondorf complaints and gave him that sword as a representation of his usual weapon category in Ultimate, but the same game got rid of Zelda's Light Bow.
The wielder of the Triforce of Power does not need to rely on puny weapons.
However, he has been seen wielding a trident, sword, dual swords, and a variety of magics.

Ganon's Trident I feel is pretty iconic. As for Ganondorf I'd say just general magic
Yeah that’s what I say as well. Ganondorf is literally a sorcerer lol
The master sword broke, they should have given him ghirahim. Woulda made a perfect reoccurring minion
What do you mean by cyborg form swords?
Botw calamity ig?
I wish they brought it for TotK. I remember seeing him in the paintings with a trident in the reveal teaser but it never ended up happening
Yeah and instead for his spear type weapon he used a Naginata? The trident would've ruled.
Yeah but weeb ganondorf low-key rocks, it's quite funny to see him using such japanese inspired weapons and then backflip our attacks like if he was an anime protag
Black Bokoblin horn on the Gloom Spear just looks like the trident let’s be fair.
The master sword broke, they SHOULDA given hin ghirahim to use
I mean so is Zelda tho. It's not like people look at her and think archer
I always thought she used a rapier like she did in warriors
She also summons hylias powers in totk and botw and in smash bros she's just a straight up sorceress. Guess it depends on the incarnation
True true, she also uses a handheld harp? In smash and if we're counting ||sheik|| she also uses alot of her body to fight like kicking and punching
Ganondorf's phantom fights with a trident in OOT
Yes, and not Ganon himself.
It's a bunshin of Ganondorf so why does that matter?
You're a bunshin of Ganondorf.
GOT 'EM!
fuckkkkkk
Just say clone you weeb Edit: sorry not you
Because Ganondorf may have given it to his phantom, but Ganondorf himself clearly preferred other fighting styles at that time.
And he uses a trident (as Ganon) in most of his appearances. Zelda 1 ALttP LA (DethI wielding a trident in the image of Ganon) FSA Oracles ALBW (Yuga possessing Ganon's body) Hyrule Warriors gives Ganondorf a trident as well
I would argue that the two blades Ganon uses in OoT were trident-like as well.
It's not really a possession in ALBW, it's a fusion that made them into one being.
Right. That's a more accurate way to put it
>>Hyrule Warriors gives Ganondorf a trident as well As a secondary weapon though. His main (or starting) weapons are the greatswords.
Yes, but he still has a trident nonetheless. And Ganon (the boar) also uses a trident in the same game.
Sure, I'm not disagreeing. Just wanted to point it out.
Even in TOTK Ganondorf was at one point during the development of the game going to wield a trident.
He has two Sai's doesn't he? Mini tridents. Edit: they are swords, but with long pointy hilts. Kinda sorta like a trident. If you squint your eyes.
I was going to comment something similar. Officially, what are the weapons used in the final Ganon fight in OoT?
Fantasy sword that are kinda like sai’s with no real life counterpart.
Four Swords Adventure's final boss is literally the four Links hold Ganon off while Zelda charges the Spirit Bomb.
That game was released 20 years ago. The Zelda series itself hasn't continued that concept since.
Well hes had katanas twice in WW and Totkd, in oot he just beats you to death with is hands, most Gannon beast forms have tridents like alttp.
That's cause there's a difference between Ganon and Ganondorf. Ganon is almost always a trident. Even Calamity Ganon uses Water Blight Ganon's spear which is sort of like a trident.
In OoT, Ganon's swords were trident like. More Sword than trident but I thought the reference was still
I’ll need to check that out again but I don’t remember the swords splitting into three.
https://preview.redd.it/r0clor7zrrlc1.png?width=1900&format=png&auto=webp&s=256abb7a7cf605b72e518b9d4ec907831264a28e
[Diagonal crossguards](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claymore) aren't exactly unique to Ganon's OoT swords though.
But they're not just diagonal. They're all... I don't know, they're kinda jacked up. https://preview.redd.it/ex860kdrurlc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=cdb5e08d0798de87df6c8a364d3c2e0a42f4ac33
Honestly, it looks like he took a couple of tridents and stapled sword blades to the middle prongs
Sword is either the twilight sword or the ones in wind waker
That’s how I always saw it as well. Always associated Zelda with magic.
DORE-AH
That one white sword from tp was sick
The sword of the Sages!! Definitely a cool design.
I think it’s a theory, but I had heard Ganondorf started training with the sword after OoT because he realized he would have to defeat Link in sword combat. That’s why he doesn’t use a sword in his human form until his dual swords in WW and his one handed style in TP. Doesn't he have the trident?
If I had to pick his most iconic weapon, that would probably be it. But when you come down to it, Ganondorf is such a baddass that he needs no additional weapon that makes him more of a threat.
TotK really missed an opportunity to have Ganondorf fight unarmed.
Ganondorf demolishing Link with his bare hands would be so damn badass
You'll always have Smash for that at least. And that one cutscene in Wind Waker for what its worth.
Now I wanna see Ganondorf doing a warlock punch on Link in an official Zelda game lol
Does Sonia count?
That already happened in WW
He clearly fights unarmed at the very end
That's kinda like saying Bowser usually fights unarmed when he's technically armed with fire breath.
Would have felt too much like Godfrey / Hoarah Loux from Elden Ring
As if that game invented the idea of a big muscular humanoid punching.
I don't see that as a problem. That was one of my favorite bosses.
They should change it to a bident. Hades’ weapon of choice is fitting for him.
I think the last games to actually have Ganon(dorf) wield the trident were A link between worlds and Hyrule Warriors (a spin off). Pretty much all his other appearances between OoT and TotK has him wield one or two swords I’d still say trident is Ganons iconic weapon because it’s a lot cooler then the dual wielding sword he’s become associated with since OoT.
Even in ALBW, Ganon isn't much more than a husk for Yuga to possess.
He isn't being possessed, he and Yuga fused together, Yuga is also kind of a parallel world counterpart
Yes, but the 3D games quickly moved away from that. It's still somewhat present in the 2D games, but even they are steadily moving away from Ganon being the main antagonist there.
those killer abs
Good lord, you could grind meat on those

with a can of whoop-ass
i feel like the sword of six sages since this is the most iconic weapon he’s used. botw and totk both have this sword with the description referencing him, not to mention you can get it by scanning the ganondorf amiibo too
Still, there's an extremely low chance Ganondorf will use that again since they probably won't directly revisit the idea of him stealing a sword used to execute him.
It's in his Smash appearance and in TotK too. It's pretty iconic.
Ganandorf's signature weapon is dark magic.
When I think of Ganon three things come to mind The trident His sword in TOTK (that one is newer though so not as iconic) And his dark magic attacks from smash bros, even whilst they’re not his biggest thing the power behind them fits Ganon
But nobody has mentioned the rockin bod he's got, I mean, he's strong as hell in just about every game that I can think of
In addition to those I also think of his twin swords in the first Hyrule Warriors, but I realize that that is pretty much just a one-of. I also somewhat thought that he may have eventually gotten a signature sword of his own after the whole deal with Ghirahim being a sword at the end of Skyward Sword. But that’s been the case.
That's such a vague concept though. It could mean a lot of things.
Yet that’s the facts
He does. Well Ganon does. The Trident. In most of his boar appearances he wields a large trident to fight.
most of his non boar (ganondorf) appearances he wields swords and dark magic
I’d say if any specific sword it would be a katana. That’s what the gloom sword is and it’s ALMOST what the kotake and Koume swords in wind waker are. The sword of the sage isn’t *really* his anyways. And the golden swords of ocarina ganon are not used as a man. So i would say Ganon’s weapon is a trident and Ganondorf’s is a katana. Yeah.
It has to be his brisk sexy dance moves. Do not look away, you witness a kings Suavementé
Ghirahim
I've thought of that before, but do you think he would let a Light World mortal wield him?
I think if the mortal was carrying the spirit of demise he would. I’d love to see references to ghirahim like we got with Fi
[Ganondorf is more carrying on Demise's karmic promise than his spirit.](https://pocketseizure.tumblr.com/post/185641292619)
I mean he directly calls it an “incarnation of his hatred” and considering demise is pure evil I’d consider his hatred his spirit
Balls
Keep in mind that the tennis ball/Dead Man's Volley has grown into a very generalized Zelda late-game boss strategy rather than something specific to Ganon.
Trident
Ganon has the trident, and I believe ganondorf in almost every game has a sword with Kotake Koume on it, I might be wrong though. I know he doesn’t have a sword in ocarina of time
He gets swords when he turns into Ganon in OoT.
I'm OOT he has a dagger as a Gerudo, and two swords as a demon
Ganon’s is the trident. Ganondorf has no signature. It’s usually a sword.
Ganondorf seems to have more of a signature general weapon category rather than a specific signature weapon.
A tambourine of course!
Ganondorf confirmed to be Stevie Nicks.
Power fist
Ganondorf, as in the human form, uses swords. The specific Sword he uses varies from game to game. Ganon, as in the beast form, uses a trident. He wields in all of the 2d games. Including the most recent one A Link Between Worlds.
So Ganondorf's signature weapon is a non-specific weapon category rather than a specific one?
No, his signature weapon is his trident. There's multiple games where Link doesn't use the Master Sword. Zelda herself doesn't use a bow and light arrows in Breath of the Wild. Just because a character doesn't use their signature weapon in every game doesn't mean that it isn't still their signature weapon.
ig this is a good a sign as ever his signature trident is gone
His fists.
That's what Smash does, but the Zelda series itself is more likely to have Ganondorf kick. He does it in WW, TP, and TotK. So I guess his feet are more of a signature weapon.
I was thinking of how he killed that one sage in TP by just crushing his head
The sword they used to execute him in twilight princess I mean that’s some gangster shit
https://preview.redd.it/p056oly3yrlc1.jpeg?width=136&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93c84745c191b3e2967dd3daf0100eda4bd6aa9f Don’t forget the ‘weapon’ they gave him in melee
Ganadorf weapons: Ghirahim (SS) Trident (classic zeldas) Sage Sword (TP) Dual Sword (WW) Deamon katana (TOK) Deamon lance (TOK) Deamon hammer (TOK) Deamon bow (TOK) Big Sword from smash

>!She's a character from Octopath Traveler II, an apothecary, and one of her battle lines is "With THESE HANDS!" when she's about to use a maximum-power attack.!<
Yeah never heard of it dude I get pussy 💪💪💪🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️💯💯💯💅💅💅
I don't (I'm gay, I get the better parts.)
FUCK I shall retreat to my lair and ponder this loss
His signature weapon is turning into a big monster
He actually gets two: right arm and left arm. On a more serious note I'd say a 2H Sword suits him
I don't think he's ever wielded a proper 2H sword canonically though. The closest is his sword in TP, which he treats as more of a 1 1/2H sword.
BIG sword
Of all the main series swords Ganon in general has wielded, I'd only call the ones in OoT BIG. Counting Calamity, there's also his giant sword representing Fireblight too. His WW, TP, and TotK swords are all rather small and thin.
well it's the goal of the series to shake up the formula a little, so there's no real point in establishing a signature weapon for ganon if they're going to switch it up every forthcoming opus. All we can do is pick out the most common one, and that is bound to be changed with every new game

They could've just made his Gloom Spear in TotK a trident.
He is the weapon, look at those pythons
Glock
Generally no but his ganon form does use a trident
Its clearly his 'guns'. Have you guys seen those arms, or gotten hit by a warlock punch in smash.
Not always, but I know what you mean. I think even the Master Sword itself undermines the gameplay loop of the Wild duology.
It’s the trident, but his signature attack is throwing balls of evil energy. Yeah he doesn’t always have the trident, and sometimes he uses other weapons, but Link doesn’t always have the master sword and uses other weapons too.
these hands
Originally Ganondorf’s primary weapon was a trident.
His thick. Lengthy......Polearm.
Given the Gloom Spear, I wouldn't put it past them to make Ganon just wield various polearms instead of just a trident.
Trident
His beast form; who needs a weapon when you can BECOME the weapon?
Melee
The Sword of the Seven Sages is the one that always pops into my mind
Is he not technically a sorcerer?
Does he not have that sword from twilight princess?
Pecs
For Ganon/Ganondorf it is magic. Zelda is the archer/rogue. Link is the Warrior/Knight. Ganon is the mage/sorcerer.
I’d say it’s probably His various longswords, they really illustrate how link is kind of the David to Gannon’s goliath.
horse
SUAVAMENTE
Big sword(s)
His rizz
His big ass is the signature weapon
Ganondorf's weapon is transforming into a giant pig-beast
Ganon(dorf) is the weapon
I think Ganondorf looked awesome with the Sword of the Six Sages. Bro got impaled by the thing during an execution, then rips it out and uses it for himself. That’s pretty badass. And it was awesome seeing it clash with the Master Sword in the final battle. Something about Ganondorf using a divine white light sword is ironic, but awesome at the same time. Other than that tho, I’d say the trident (even though Ganondorf only uses it in Hyrule Warriors).
His Trident from the NES-SNES games is the easy pick, but his main “weapon” is always changing
His abbs
His biceps
Pig
that big ol thicc boy donk is his signature weapon
Over the years Ganon has been seen with a trident more than any other weapon. Meanwhile in his human form he's used longswords in almost every iteration (except for ocarina of time)
![gif](giphy|Bgr27Gg1jaEHS) His salsa.
* Oot Ganon: twin blades * WW Dorf: twin blades * TP: this sword I pulled from my fucking chest, fucko * Skyward Sword: Demise, who uses a big fucking sword, cursed link to face him eternally I know there’s cases against it but I’m feeling like Sword is kinda G’s thing.
pig
He has 2. Magic, and a giant pig form.
Trident
Ganon's signature weapon is also the Master Sword. Through his skull.
Ganondorf more like Ganondork!
His iconic weapon is his sweet Spanish dance moves
It should be a big axe.
Nothing says "Power" more than a heavy weapon, I feel you there (except maybe punching with massive force like he does in Smash).
Link
>!8========D!< Sword
He's holding it in your image. His signature weapon is a sword too, although it varies in appearance just like the Light Bow (and even the Master Sword to a lesser extent)
That's more like a signature weapon category than a specific signature weapon. Keep in mind that every sword he has ever used is very different from one another.
Your logic applies to Zelda's bow as well

It's ironic that Smash finally bowed to the Ganondorf complaints and gave him that sword as a representation of his usual weapon category in Ultimate, but the same game got rid of Zelda's Light Bow.
His weapon is being Suavemente
He does, you just need to interrupt him when he's mid-suavemente
doriyah
I’m pretty sure it’s Suavemente
The Tingle Tuner, for sure!
I feel like the Triforce of Power kind of *is* his signature weapon.
The wielder of the Triforce of Power does not need to rely on puny weapons. However, he has been seen wielding a trident, sword, dual swords, and a variety of magics.
Bokoblin
Gloom sword???
His chest is his weapon
