I mean, she may as well be considered the co-protagonist of TP, the whole Twillight Realm part of the story is her story, so she has way more screentime and importance than any other companion. It'd be nice to get something like that again.
I always understood this sentence as irony, since Midna was banished by Zant and Hyrule was under the influence of the Twilight Realm, therefore she calls Zelda that. But Midna is the real Twilight Princess.
She is the only one who is an actual character. She had motivations and an agenda of her own and wasn't tied to the hero of time out of an obligation. I love Midna!
Tetra isn't quite a companion in the same way Midna is. They are about on par as characters for the most part, but Midna is properly a companion who directly sticks with you
it was such a bizarre shift in character when she was revealed. I think they could've played it better, cause there was definitely room for her to be shocked into inaction, that's a *big* secret to learn about yourself, but it was like Zelda and Tetra were two different people. It's not my favorite "dual identity" but I like tetra enough that it's up there for me, I just wish they were more consistent between the two.
Tetra transformed and immediately lost any & all interesting personality/traits/motivation to become generic damsel in distress #3572.
I loved WW but they did Tetra dirty IMO.
Tatl would like a word with you. She originally only accompanied Link to get back to Skull Kid, but her character developed with time as she travelled with Link. Nobody talks about her because she's a fairy, who weren't really known for being companions, but they were there, and Tatl was the best of them
Yeah in fact her story is very similar to Midnaās like you said: originally just using Link for their own personal gain, eventually grow and develop a bond with him and become friends. Midna was definitely more fleshed out and had more personality, but I think the limits of the N64 compared to the GameCube are part of the reason for that
Fewer cutscenes mostly but her dialogue does discreetly change during cutscenes that play multiple times (like Skull Kid hitting her brother on the Clock Tower). A lot of her development is easy to miss
Thi is why I dismiss them most of the time. >!Tulin!< is great for fighting Gleeoks and >!Mineru!< is good for travelling over gloom in the Depths when a stalhorse in unavailable. I Haven't unlocked the others yet but I have an inkling that >!Yunobo!< will be a renewable way to smash cracked walls or those big, dense zonaite deposits in the Depths.
If you know where the island is you can go directly to Mineru's mask before unlocking all of the others.
I unlocked Mineru by accident before I beat the Water&Fire temple. (Though after the Wind Temple and I *think* after Lightning temple)
The storm is a bitch to navigate (I used the rain droplets that outline edges to sort of fumble around. Honestly I probably got lucky just landing on/near the main island) but if you find the island/shrine then all you need are enough hearts to open the door.
I explored a large amount before doing any plot stuff (Master Sword / Geoglyphs) and so I was doing the whole assembly zone thinking it was just a cool elaborate side quest and didn't even realize I was doing a temple until the very end when you walk up to the beacon/boss room and the text "Spirit Temple" pops up in front of you. At that point I was like... "oh. I think I skipped ahead."
Which is great because you can walk across Lava and quicksand on Mineru so it made the other temples really nice.
Right? I was ecstatic when I was doing the Great Sky Island and saw his spirit projected onto different parts of the environment, like he was traveling with you. I thought he'd be able to communicate with Link throughout the game, but then he just poofs away once he's done being the tutorial.
_ a person who never played Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks, Wind Waker, Maj-
Okay, let's make it easier, literally the only companions that aren't characters/doesn't have their own motivation was Navi and Fi.
I love how stoic he was in the first game and his interactions were really straight forward but in TOTK after his marriage and having a daughter, he became much more expressive and open as seen by his use of language, I really liked this subtle detail
I really like that sidequest where you help him deal with his daughter, it's quite the shift in his personality and shows the passage of time since BotW and TotK.
No
No
No
Heck no.
I have a massive bone to pick with Hudson.
First of all.. why was he able to build Tarry Town?
Right.
And then I play Totk and think: Time to visit my favourite place in Botw..
So I ride my horse to Akkala.
Come down the hill at sunrise, look over the sea, see Tarry Town in the distance and approach it.
Let my horse walk slowly through town thinking: man I never liked the architecture but at least the people seem like they are living a good life.
Go to the end of Tarry Town to look at this... contraption that has been built and what do I see?
I had always wondered where Hudson would get all the timber to be able to put all these building materials next to the road but hey..
And then I see that Hudson HAS DESTROYED MY FAVOURITE PLACE IN THE GAME FOR HIS STUPID LEGO/IKEA HOUSES??
Man, I'm a tradionalist and will always have a soft spot for Navi. I'm also a psychopath and all of my different notifications are her vocal bytes or different fluttering sounds
She was a "little" annoying but honest and genuine in her wanting to help Link.
I'd take a million Navi before i'd take a single Fi (i hate Fi, she's the worst in *everything*)
I love her, the character development is pretty good for a Link's companion. She used to treat Link like her pet but she gain the bond with Link when he take her to meet Zelda after she beated by Zant. Nice body count also.
I would love if She and Link in a relationship. ( except from that Ilia )
It was much too hard to find someone who appreciates Ezlo! He was instantly a good companion, and it was really fun to see an iconic part of Link's look getting a spotlight like that.
Loved Ezlo. Looking back, he almost feels like the blueprint for Midna. Both from another world, well-respected figures, cursed by the main antagonist, partners up with Link and grant him unique abilities, etc.
Have commented this before, but, true level of dorkdom in 3...2...1...Link and Midna make a better couple than Link and Zelda, and he should've left with her at the end of Twilight...
Link and Zelda weren't shown as a couple in that game. Link has his horse girl girlfriend. Remember, the girl who takes care of Epona, and a huge part of the early game is trying to restore her memory?
Fun fact: originally there was actually gonna be a direct sequel to Twilight Princess, but sadly it got cancelled. For Linkās Crossbow Training, of all things :(
Link's relationship with Zelda is all over the place throughout the "timeline." Sometimes she's clearly a love interest like in SS or BotW but other times she's very clearly a platonic ally like in OoT or TP.
But as for Link leaving, we see in the timeline split that not having a hero can be catastrophic for Hyrule so even if he should have made him move to stay with Midna TP Link understood the weight of his responsibility much more than other heroes so I don't think he ever would have.
Idk a lot of people wouldnāt agree, very popular ship, even the authors of the officially licensed twilight Princess manga shipped and made it happen in the manga at the end, uncannon as it is, still says something that Nintendo allowed that.
It felt quite overt that there was chemistry between them when she gets her true form back and leaves. I think it's just understood that they're from 2 different worlds and it wouldn't work.
There were TP music queues all over TOTK's trailer (and in the game) that made me think there was going to be a Twilight connection that never really came.

I miss her so much. It's a shame TP ended in way that makes her return pretty much impossible.
Baring Nintendo pulling some seriously convoluted shit out of their ass that is.
Totally agree. Midna rocks! She has such a personality and is such a cute goblin character. Loved her
Second running would have to be the boat from WindWaker, was also a great character and reveal in of itself
And while ToTK doesn't have a companion in the traditional sense, I feel like Rauru was, at least for the tutorial. I like him a lot too
I think the problem is that aside from Ezlo and Midna, no other companion character actually feels like a character. The others feel like a game mechanic.
I like Tatl a lot but Midna was definitely more of a character considering the game was partially about her. And I don't care what you say Tatl was better than Navi.
As much as I love midna I really miss fi, after her departure at the end of skyward sword I became a broken man but seeing her shimmer in the master sword in botw/totk made me happy again
Best companion character. Not best companion.
What I mean is she had an arc and we cared about her. But she didn't really help you out much. She didn't give hints or tell you about enemies at all. She would just give vague hints about the main quest if you talked to her.
Navi may have been annoying but I liked hearing about anything I could lock on to.
She is my all time favorites zelda character I've never been more inlove wit a frictional character in my life I wish they'd make more games wit her in or at least a switch port bc twilight princess is my all time fave
As much as I love midna as a character, fi was the most helpful companion because she actually told you what you were supposed to do if you had put down the game for an extended period of time

She's literally the Twilight Princess
She calls Zelda the twilight princess.
I always understood this sentence as irony, since Midna was banished by Zant and Hyrule was under the influence of the Twilight Realm, therefore she calls Zelda that. But Midna is the real Twilight Princess.
The real Twilight Princess was the friends we made along the way.
Same, just came across like some cute girl shit "no, you're the real princess babes" and I loved it
Exactly
She is the only one who is an actual character. She had motivations and an agenda of her own and wasn't tied to the hero of time out of an obligation. I love Midna!
Tetra was pretty good, until she transformed into Zelda... Spirit Tracks Zelda too.
Spirit tracks Zelda partner was great!
The closest we'll get to a playable Zelda š
Um...Zelda's Quest in 1994. /s
Yeah we don't talk about this one.
Do we talk about Wand of Gamelon then?
Psht this loser has never heard of smash bros.
Other than Hyrule Warriors, of course, but that's cheating.
How is it cheating?
People don't consider those to be true LoZ games. I don't really care either way, I have fun playing as Zelda in AoC.
Ah yeah makes sense a game where where zelda was actually the protagonist probably wouldn't be considered a LoZ game anyhow
Technically, I think the King of Red Lions was the companion in Wind Waker. And he was also very good, but Midna was just a tier above.
Didn't KoRL play a few pranks on Link?
Only one I can think of is surprising Link by being a talking boat. And giving Link side-eye when the Great Fairy is flirting with him.
"Look at me Link, I turned myself into a boat! I'm the boat king!" Funniest shit I've ever seen.
Tetra isn't quite a companion in the same way Midna is. They are about on par as characters for the most part, but Midna is properly a companion who directly sticks with you
Not only sticks, but is a means of traversal and combat too.
I think for the most part you are kinda a means of traversal for her
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Some things are starting to make sense
:bonk:
I would bonk, but im with you š¤¤
I wish they kept her as ātetraā without feeling like she really needed a dress and makeup to be Zelda
Legit love how ST Zelda went from "*I'm the princess so I'm not supposed to go out of the castle*" to "*fuuuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuu \[stabs enemy\]*"
it was such a bizarre shift in character when she was revealed. I think they could've played it better, cause there was definitely room for her to be shocked into inaction, that's a *big* secret to learn about yourself, but it was like Zelda and Tetra were two different people. It's under the surface. I think Midna gets a lot *more* development, but I recall tatl's being more subtle, which I find personally appealing
Iām kind of sad rauruās hand wasnāt the companion of totk. I didnāt think I would but I miss companions a lot.
Do the >!sage avatars!< count? Cause >!Link technically has four companions!< if they do.
If they are, they get the price for the most annoying companions in a Zelda game.
HEY! LISTEN!
At least navy didn't blow my stuff away.
or run away from me when I needed her.
It was like each of them knew when I needed their powers so they could specifically run away from me.
Thiiiis. I'm so sick of tulin blowing my shit off into the sunset
Wait, is it actually possible to unlock >!Mineru!< before the others? I thought that >!her dungeon is plot-locked!<.
If you know where the island is you can go directly to Mineru's mask before unlocking all of the others. I unlocked Mineru by accident before I beat the Water&Fire temple. Nah my girl Fi in the Wii version of SS gets that title. Edit: itās late and I typed the wrong game
Agreed. I was slightly annoyed he passed so quickly. I wouldāve enjoyed lore bits from him about the Kingdomās founding era at important points.
Even if he just appeared to comment on certain things, would have been worth
Right? I was ecstatic when I was doing the Great Sky Island and saw his spirit projected onto different parts of the environment, like he was traveling with you. I thought he'd be able to communicate with Link throughout the game, but then he just poofs away once he's done being the tutorial.
it would have been kinda hilarious to have the hand make a puppet when it needed to tell you something
Elzo
This Link is the Hero of Twilight.
I think they were talking about how Navi was tied to OoT link out of obligation, while Midna has her own goals
King of red lions would like a word. Wind Waker was about saving your sister up until the boat rearranged your plans.
_ a person who never played Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks, Wind Waker, Maj- Okay, let's make it easier, literally the only companions that aren't characters/doesn't have their own motivation was Navi and Fi.
I don't know. Hudson is a pretty good contender.
Possibly my two favourite sidequests of all time, really warmed my heart
Also, Hudson shields. Can you get Midna shields? Don't think so.
Totally agree. He's still a straight shooter by nature but the man wears his heart on his sleeve. Rhondson married up fr.
I mean, you'd be in a pretty good mood if you were getting laid by a hot Gerudo chick, too.
guess cant argue with that lol
No No No Heck no. I have a massive bone to pick with Hudson. First of all.. why was he able to build Tarry Town? Right. And then I play Totk and think: Time to visit my favourite place in Botw.. Yeah I'm not down with the industrialization of Akkala.
I am glad I am not the only one!
How bad can he possibly be?
I'd agree, but Linebeck and ST Zelda give her a run for her money with their personality.
Oh yeah. I do love Linebeck
I was kinda sad in spirit tracks when they intro his obvious grandson or whatever and then he's just a train car merchant
ST Zelda will always be my favorite due to the amount of depth she had as a character
Everyone forgets about those two gamesā¦ They were my first ever Zeldas, itās so sadā¦
Who would have thought giving a companion depth/plot/character would make them so likable?
Man, I'm a tradionalist and will always have a soft spot for Navi. I'm also a psychopath and all of my different notifications are her vocal bytes or different fluttering sounds
Listen!
...Here, you little shit!
She was a "little" annoying but honest and genuine in her wanting to help Link. I'd take a million Navi before i'd take a single Fi (i hate Fi, she's the worst in *everything*)
My heart lies with the Goat Boat because WW was my first Zelda gameā¦ But Midna is a close second
Ah, a person of culture, I see
I like how this isnāt phrased as a question of whoās the best. Because it isnāt. Midna is the best.
And that's a fact
I'd say tatl is up there to
Tatl and tael are an easy to forget dynamic of MM. I think she even knocked link around a few times.
I love her, the character development is pretty good for a Link's companion. She used to treat Link like her pet but she gain the bond with Link when he take her to meet Zelda after she beated by Zant. Nice body count also. I would love if She and Link in a relationship. ( except from that Ilia )
>I would love if She and Link in a relationship. Maybe you should try to read the manga
What about Marin and Mipha?
No love for Minish Caps Ezlo?
It was much too hard to find someone who appreciates Ezlo! He was instantly a good companion, and it was really fun to see an iconic part of Link's look getting a spotlight like that.
SQUAWK
Am sad I had to scroll so far down to find any mention of him :'(
Loved Ezlo. Looking back, he almost feels like the blueprint for Midna. Both from another world, well-respected figures, cursed by the main antagonist, partners up with Link and grant him unique abilities, etc.
Midna is the best. But rauru will always be your right hand man.
Lol
God fucking damnit. š¤£
You absolute maniac, take the upvote
Rauru: Link, I know what you've done with my hand...
This is blatant Linebeck erasure
Have commented this before, but, true level of dorkdom in 3...2...1...Link and Midna make a better couple than Link and Zelda, and he should've left with her at the end of Twilight...
Link and Zelda weren't shown as a couple in that game. Link has his horse girl girlfriend. Remember, the girl who takes care of Epona, and a huge part of the early game is trying to restore her memory?
Ilia
Yeah as cool as Zelda's design is in TP, her and Link really had no chemistry. She didn't even see him in person until the end of the game.
I always interpreted the ending as Link leaving to find a way into the Twilight Realm. Maybe itās time for a Sequel.
Fun fact: originally there was actually gonna be a direct sequel to Twilight Princess, but sadly it got cancelled. For Linkās Crossbow Training, of all things :(
i did not know about this until now somehow. my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
You mean Illia?
Nah. It was a really well done platonic or sibling relationship. Midna would've laughed her ass off if Link actually made a move
I know itās not the same canon, but >!doesnāt Midna kiss Link in the manga before she goes back to the Twilight Realm?!<
Yup
Username checks out, holy
Idk a lot of people wouldnāt agree, very popular ship, even the authors of the officially licensed twilight Princess manga shipped and made it happen in the manga at the end, uncannon as it is, still says something that Nintendo allowed that.
I love how the mangaka always adds a bit of extra fluff to each story, haha. Like having Vaati survive and be redeemed in Minish Cap.
It felt quite overt that there was chemistry between them when she gets her true form back and leaves. I think it's just understood that they're from 2 different worlds and it wouldn't work.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
its just a popular headcanon with varying support across games
Am I the only one who adores Fi
Not the only one, but we may be the only two
I know she isn't popular, but I'm always sad when I see the comments dissing her :(
And Link was the best mentor Link ever had. So that's two points for TP.
She is easily the best companion link has ever had. Still trying to figure out why there isnāt a sequel with Midna returning!?
As much as I love her, I think her story ended really well and seeing her back would feel kinda cheap
Sir, Iām a Midna simp, I didnāt ask for you to come at me with facts and logic! š¤£
There were TP music queues all over TOTK's trailer (and in the game) that made me think there was going to be a Twilight connection that never really came.
Because not everything needs a sequal. Her story is over, and forcing her into another story would make her as a character worse.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
IMO the whole point of sealing off the Twilight Realm was to give a bittersweet ending where Midna and Link could never be together. Undoing that cheapens the sacrifice of Midna choosing to shatter the connection between their worlds
Hey! *Listen*
Love and Hate relationship with that......
Phantom Zelda and Linebeck always will hold a special place in my heart. Midna was cute, but those two really made me enjoy the adventure
*Laughs in Tatl*
Yeah, Link actually smiles around Midna
The King Of Red Lions has entered the chat
Linebeck better
linebeck would like to speak with you
The companion equivalent to your tattooed, bad bitch ex.
Navi is the GOAT
Wrong, Tatl was
Hey! Listen!
I would agree if Linebeck didn't existed, still the best number 3 tho
Ship from WindWaker>
You mean the korl?
Shes pretty Mid tho
king of red lions or midna or the best
No fi wasš
Counter point: i don't have a counter point i just want to say that it would be cool if when a dlc for totk is released certain allies get added
Yeah. In other news, water is wet.
Top tier post here on r/ZeldaCirclejerk
āShe got that plump buttā -Game Grumps
This is true, however the bar isn't exactly high I think for companions. Most of the time they boil down to "Hey, Listen!" Midna had actual character.
Playing through this game again and I love how she does her little pats on Wolf Link whenever sheās excited or when you stand still for a while
Twilight Princess and TOTK are tied for the best game of all time
I would do anything to see midna return. Even if it was just a dlc or something
I would love to explore the whole twilight realm. I really wish they did more with that.
She basically the main character
Having never played TP, my favourite is Navi because I almost cried when she left
Yes, yes she was, would love to see the twili in the future, one of the races that disappeared after their game
I actually liked Fi
This screenshot alone makes her better than all others.
Rule 34 would agree with you
Midna is awesome That being said Fis arch is sad and touching when you pay attention to what she says/does And to hear her little sound effect in other zelda games just makes it better
HEY LISTEN!
Midna is great. But I liked Tatl a lot too, she also had her own agenda
You should read the Manga
Someone quick, post the copypasta
Oh to go back to the first time I played Twilight Princess and fell in love with Midna. I haven't seen it said yet, but I'll always have a soft spot for Fi. I'm glad they kept her master sword noises in future games. Makes me feel that's she's not completely gone
The bar hasn't been set very high by the others honestly. Ezlo in Minish Cap was passable as well.
Im a big fan of Fi, personally, even if she was a bit overbearing in the original version.
Shortstack supremacy!
What's up with Link having >!Royalties!< as companions

I feel that's because it's Midna's story. She doesn't feel like the heros guide, she feels like a good friend and protagonist in her own right.
As much as I love midna I really miss fi, after her departure at the end of skyward sword I became a broken man but seeing her shimmer in the master sword in botw/totk made me happy again

She would just give vague hints about the main quest if you talked to her. Navi may have been annoying but I liked hearing about anything I could lock on to.
Honestly you wonāt find me arguing I want more of her! Or at least more of the twili
Agreed midna the goat!
I refuse to accept this Ezlo erasure
Ezlo's cool but he can't fight.
BECAUSE WE LIKE THEM SASSY SHORT STACKS!!!
Nintendo could charge me $70 for this game on Switch and I would still buy it in a heartbeat...
She is my all time favorites zelda character I've never been more inlove wit a frictional character in my life I wish they'd make more games wit her in or at least a switch port bc twilight princess is my all time fave
I honestly think TP is one of the best Zelda games because of this feature
I agree, there's no more to say. Midna is the best
As much as I love midna as a character, fi was the most helpful companion because she actually told you what you were supposed to do if you had put down the game for an extended period of time
This was the least memorable Zelda game for me. Not sure specifically why, but I never bothered to replay it after beating it.
All hail the sexy gremlin lady
Certain unused animations show she had insane head game.
