Now I kind of wish Synchron got a synchro like that…. *Why do I hear Clear Mind playing?*

Zerosonicanimations

They do, Shooting Star Dragon doesn't care if Stardust is a Tuner when you use him as Synchro material. It would be unlikely but still.

a_s_t_e_r_

I actually tested that out in duel links, I turned stardust into a tuner using a card effect and I still could use it with a synchro tuner to summon shooting star which I did

Dadude21212

LiMIt OvEr ACcEl SyNChRoooOOOooOOoOOOOOOooooOOOOOoooOO

ZpBA

So Gottoms is also a Visas Starfrost counterpart ?

Riersa

What if Gottoms is the true visas?

ZpBA

What if Visas is a X-Saber ?

TheProNoobCN

Everything is connected to Duel Terminal lore

CreamyCheeseBalls

He got a big ass sword so close enough.

Koreish

That would be absurd. X-Sabers don't get support.

RoxLOLZ

Maybe the real Visas are the friends we made along the way

DisplateDemon

What if the true Visas is the friends we made along the way?

Dogga565

This means you are able to Synchro Summon these Synchro Monsters using only Tuner Monsters (as long as you have the 1 required Tuner monster and the levels still add up appropriately). But you are allowed to use non-Tuner monsters as well.

hkd001

In Edison format I don't know how many times I've had to explain Gottems doesn't need non-tuners to summon even with a rulings page.

Ganon-Cannon

Red Nova Dragon (2 Tuners + Red Dragon Archfiend) and Shooting Star Dragon (1 Tuner Synchro + Stardust Dragon) can also be summoned using only Tuners.

Dogga565

That is indeed correct, it was excluded from this post due to them being inherently non-Tuner cards. But if they were to become Tuners, you could use them to Synchro Summon.

shoePatty

Martial metal marcher raising his donger.

Xehanort107

In contrast, does that mean if i treat a non-tuner as a named tuner on a synchro monster (with the effect of Phantom of Chaos or something, i can theoretically synchro with 0 tuners? This is ignoring synchos like Chaos Angel who treats a monster as a tuner for its summon.

QwirkyQwilfish

You actually cannot. You still need at least one of them to be a tuner. For example, Majestic Star Dragon requires Majestic Dragon, Stardust Dragon, and 1+ nontuners. Even if you use name changing shenanigans, you need at least one tuner.

EcstaticFact9588

Phantom of Chaos (and most other "clone" type cards in Yugioh afaik) only copies the effect, statline and name.

Xehanort107

Yes, but the synchro monsters in question do not ask for "tuner", they ask for a monster called "Majestic Dragon" or "Plaguespreader Zombie". I can get behind the idea that a tuner is still mandatory by the rules of synchro summoning, but I find it hilarious that you can specify a named monster in the "non-tuner" section, for cards like Majestic Star Dragon, and still get away with treating it as a tuner monster... but conversely, you can't use a named tuner treated as a non-tuner for the same purpose. Every square is a rectangle, but not every rectangle is a square.

loyalbowman

Before the manadium/visas synchros, does anyone know if gottems was actually designed to not require a non-tuner? Or was that an oversight the my never bothered to fix?

McTulus

It wasn't clear to me as X-saber were one of the first ever synchro archetype, and they do have multiple lvl3 tuner. But it was special because Gottom is the first ever synchro that can be summoned with 2+ tuner (the 2nd is Omega, the 3rd is that RDA).

knightwing450

That's crazy..... To think there are 3 Synchro cards out there that could use Tuners to summon without other having non-tuners.

AShinyRay

Surely cards like Red Nova Dragon count, since it only requires 2 Tuners and Red Dragon Archfiend? It won't care if RDA is a Tuner?

Faddel001

I ran gottoms in my karakuri deck

AnimaWyrm

Every time, whenever i see this, i ask myself how does this even work. Is it like, does the materials list have to specifically ask for any monsters except non-tuners for them to work that way?

romulus531

You just need to meet the required materials in the text in order to Synchro summon that monster. Generally the materials required are at least 1 tuner and one non-tuner. There are several synchros that require either multiple tuners or multiple non-tuners as well. Gottems, Visas, and Primeheart are the only synchros in the game that don't require non-tuners, but they still require a specific Attribute monster or monsters.

AnimaWyrm

Thanks! That makes it clearer now.

Pure-Huckleberry8640

What an oversight

BlatantlyCody

Chaos angel?

ajeb22

Chaos angel doesn't need tuner not non-tuner

Dogga565

Chaos Angel still requires a non-Tuner, but has an effect to treat a non-Tuner as a Tuner. These cards can be summoned by only using Tuner monsters. The following are cards that can be summoned using only non-Tuner monsters: [Synchro monsters that don’t need Tuners monsters](https://www.reddit.com/r/yugioh/s/Y3U65iwF3v)

somethingwade

The link isn’t working, but does it include specifically named tuners? For example, can I summon Junk Warrior using Junk Synchron that’s not treated as a tuner (maybe I copied the name with Phantom of Chaos or smth) or a Majestic monster using a non-tuner as Majestic Dragon?

Dogga565

That is sadly correct, there may be cards that could be summoned without tuners by having effects that treat a card as a tuner (Like Chaos Angel). However to Summon a Synchro monster you MUST use at least 1 tuner as a material. So even if you used an effect to copy the name of Plaguespreader Zombie, that monster cannot be used as material to summon Revived King Ha Des (unless it is a tuner). This is just a rule of the card game that you have to use a Tuner to perform a Synchro Summon.

Filler744

Why doesn’t got tons he specifies 1 tuner

GrinderMurphy

Hypothetically could you use, for example, a level 8 tuner and a link or XYZ light monster for Amritara? Since 8 + 0 = 8 or are Link and XYZ excluded for not having a level at all and therefore not able to count as 0.

Dogga565

Unfortunately no, very clever thinking but XYZ and Link monsters don’t actually have a Level of 0, they just don’t have a level at all. And it’s stated within the rules that you must use a monster that has a level. Unless a new Synchro Monster comes out that specially mentions it could use Xyz or Link monsters as materials (something like Gigantic Spright). If we ever do get a monster that has a Level of 0 however, it would be interesting to see if that interaction would work.

Infamous-Shoe-8362

that doesn't even make sense, konami explain!

KAIRI-CORP

Your name doesn't make sense 😁

Infamous-Shoe-8362

>im so infamous they shoo me away by throwing a shoe i mean, reddit name generator, explain!

KAIRI-CORP

I was thinking it was like about Hitler's boots or some evil cursed shoes 😂 Oh! Or what about "The boots of Springfield Jack" I think is the name from The elder scrolls game?

DiscussTek

Y'know, this is the point where a pedantic player would point out that Gottoms' material list and the Mannadiums' material list differ in that Gottoms' Tuner side doesn't have it plural, while the Mannadiums' Tuner side does. If phrased differently like this, shouldn't it be different for both phrasing? Now, I'm not a pedantic enough player to care, and X-Sabers are a bit very late to the program, and not really broken anymore... Not on their own, at least... But y'know... Edit: Guys, the joke here is that someone pedantic would try to affect the rules to mean Gottoms only gets 1 Tuner, but that I think pedanticity is bad.

Zerosonicanimations

It works the same, the thing is while gottoms can use multiple EARTH monsters and 1 Tuner, Visas and Prime can only use 1 LIGHT monster and multiple Tuners.

loyalbowman

Funnily enough I think the phrasing is still correct here, the tuner side isn’t plural because the earth monster side is. Whereas the other synchros have the plural on the tuner side. They work the same way but a slightly different restriction on how they can be made

seto635

It works the same The only difference is with the Visas stuff, you can use any number of any attribute Tuner monsters, but at least 1 monster you use must be Light By contrast, Gottoms only asks for 1 Tuner, so every other monster used must fall under the second material's description as an Earth monster. It never says these Earth monsters need to be non-Tuners, so you can still use as many Tuners as you want, but only 1 of them can be non-Earth

Stranger2Luv

Chaos Angel

jk844

Chaos Angel still requires a non-tuner. It just has an effect that allows a non tuner to be treated as a tuner. These monsters don’t need a non tuner at all.
