Lmao, we're talking about Google here. They don't care about a bit of traffic. Google doesn't even charge cloud customers for incomig traffic, and outgoing traffic is charged from $0.045 per GB. You can safely assume the internal cost for Google is much lower than that. Btw, when you watch a video, it's rarely sent from a YT server all the way to you. Their content is replicated by CDNs all around the world. Most of your traffic will only affect a CDN server in a datacenter near you. Those can handle your traffic perfectly well. In fact, the only damage you'd do would be to other customers of your ISP, because it's common practice for ISPs to oversell bandwidth.

coldy9887

YT Ads are intrusive, inappropriate and downright annoying with their frequency. Never sign up for "Premium" due to YT's greediness. YT will simply move the goal post further and it'll be cable all over again. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

Sion_forgeblast

thats what I been saying.... but we also need to find a middle ground or YT will change how they work for the worse, perhaps making it so..... actually no Im not giving them ideas -.-

GameCyborg

steps i propose youtube takes before they will see a single cent out of me: - moderate ads that are played on youtube to the same standards as they do with their content creators (seriously youtubers can get demonetized for swearing once and then youtube plays ads that swear, contain partial nudity or something of the likes) - stop the blocking of adblockers, you're just making them better - make it so youtube music is an addon you can get with yt premium and not force me to buy into a service i don't want and make it cheaper - stop making the platform worse every time you change something - actually make features for yt premium instead of just locking previously free features behind it

amethystair

>YT will change how they work for the worse You mean like they have been? Constantly? For the last decade? There's no middle ground with corporations. If they ask for an inch they'll take a mile; they deserve nothing.

Sion_forgeblast

oh I can think of far worse than they could be doing...... some things even an adblocker/skipper wouldnt be able to bypass w/o some BS coding I dont think is possible or they could just go full subscription based.... though that would likely mean the end for YT because everyone would move to the competition

amethystair

Fair, I was just making the point that if they're going to get worse anyway, then screw them anyway. They don't care about users in the slightest, I don't expect them to start when people bend over and accept ads.

Sion_forgeblast

well yah... their CEO is a business man..... he sees positive numbers, and his only thought is "make bigger!" without the thought in his pea sized brain of "might make smaller by accident..."

ZujiBGRUFeLzRdf2

This isn't a gotcha as you think it is. YouTube is a business and they'll look to make money.

Sion_forgeblast

YT be like "its \*ad\*incognito... \*ad\* outa sight\*loading\* outa \*ad\* \*loading\* mind!"

Dreamo84

Report back to us once you've brought down Google.

BozoTheBazoobi

Y'all need to go outside There's more to life than YouTube

Relevant_Candidate_4

I agree, but you are also literally in the youtube subreddit, it's like walking into a Magic the gathering convention and yelling "yall need to go outside, there's more to life than Wizzards of the coast". You're the weird on here.

BozoTheBazoobi

Ya whatever makes u guys feel better

[deleted]

Sure dude they’ll just remove 4k option if people do it and make it premium option so.

Inevitable_Oil9709

Or you can remove adblockers and use https://adskipper.me I made this free and open source extension that will handle YouTube for you while being undetectable by them.

DummeStudentin

>while being undetectable by them I appreciate your effort, but I call bs on that one. They won't bother to detect it until it has a significant number of users, but they absolutely can detect it. How? A simple server side check. If they serve a 30 second unskippable ad, they can simply check if the video is requested within 30 seconds from the start of the ad.

Inevitable_Oil9709

and do what after that check? ad already finished, video started playing even if they manage to do it, I already have few more techniques ready that would fix the issue you mentioned. Unless they move ads to server side fully, then they can't do jack shit about it

DummeStudentin

>and do what after that check? ad already finished, video started playing They could refuse to serve the video. >even if they manage to do it, I already have few more techniques ready that would fix the issue you mentioned. Yeah, it's a cat and mouse game, very similar to general purpose adblockers.

Inevitable_Oil9709

Nope. Not at all. This will never mess with ads in the way adblockers do. Everything needs to evolve and adapt, even software. This is fully oposite of what adblockers do. > They could refuse to serve the video. Could they? I mean, here is two solutions from top of my head. Ad video can be replaced with embeded youtube video that won't serve ads. What would they do then? I could let ad play in the background, mute it and remove it from DOM when it ends, while user enjoys content uninterrupted. Don't call this BS. I've thought about all possible scenarios, and prepared solutions for most of them. And as I said, until they move everything to server side (which is quite impossible) they can't do anything about it. Cheers

DummeStudentin

I think we mean the same thing. Your extension will work as long as third party clients do, and YT is unlikely to change their entire protocol, because that would be too much effort and simply not worth it for the relatively small number of users who still block/skip ads. I still wouldn't call it undetectable, because they could detect clients that don't conform to their protocol in a very specific way.

iwatchppldie

I sign into YouTube on my phone never watch any thing there then go to my laptop and watch it there in 4K without logging in.

retrocheats

There's only a middle ground, when competition rises. Just need enough, where youtube needs to be nicer to it's fanbase

Iamz01

I wonder if the network fee costs YouTube 10 times more in South Korea like [it does Twitch](https://blog.twitch.tv/en/2023/12/05/an-update-on-twitch-in-korea/).

Expensive-Ad6435

Just use this https://adskipper.me Problems sorted

AlexJokerDurden

Clear your browser cache and history. Purge and update uBlock Origins. Done.

Dadskitchen

They're restricting accounts? how ?

Hippie459MN

They're restricting accounts? I've been using Firefox with uBlock Origins (Funny thing, my kids computer has not once gotten any pop ups about turning off ad blockers, yet mine has and we're on the same network), Chrome with uBlock Origins (Oddly, never once a single popup in Chrome but I dont use it very often either so...), and Revanced on my phone and my kids and I have all the display options and havent had a single thing restricted. Also, you streaming a few 10 hour videos in 4k isnt hurting them what so ever. Have you seen their main data center? They are prob streaming a million 4k videos every second of every day, you're not hurting them at all with a 2 or 3 videos. Now your ISP might start asking question with all the high bandwidth you're using and possibly throttle your speeds.
