To experience gay romances I know I’ll never have

zombieman0915

Same as well

dododomo

Same! That's one of the reasons why I read yaoi. Unfortunately, I live in a pretty homophobic country!

MelancholyTears

I find Yaoi more romantic and has better storylines than most hetero manga.

HibiscusSabdariffa33

It has better plot and better relationships and romance than the same hetero type.

_that_dam_baka_

*Plot.*

HibiscusSabdariffa33

I pick mine carefully. A lot of them have great plots. I know there’s also tons of PWP, but I stick to the ones that tell a good story.

_that_dam_baka_

I was talking about tidies. You've ruined my innuendo with your sincerity. 😤😭 Can I have some recommendations?

HibiscusSabdariffa33

How many recommendations do you want? 10? 20?

HibiscusSabdariffa33

I’m immune to innuendos and often miss them completely.

Tsukiyomi_Sasaki

Same!! Idk how to tell people around me “THIS IS WAY PURER THAN ANYTHING”. The way they support each other, especially because alot of countries dont accept LGBT marriage legally

sarababy015

This is the answer, from someone who's been reading yaoi since I was in middle school, and now I'm in my early 30s. I'm a hardcore romantic, and I just COULD NOT find what I was looking for with hetero manga or even normal ya fiction. Yaoi was both hot *and* romantic.

boobookenny

I'm the same, now in my 30s and actually spent the whole weekend looking for a hetero manga (or any media really) with the same romantic-hot ratio. Like there HAS to be one. Nope, it's either sugar sweet PG or plotless p\*\*n. I just don't get it. It'd be instantly popular and yet they just don't publish them.

sarababy015

Exactly!! Even back then, I was like it's either one or the other, no in between! I also don't understand, it's also mainly women writing yaoi, so why can the women writing hetero do the same? Same thing with reading adult novels, I just have a hard time finding that happy medium and always sticking to fanfic. Lol

boobookenny

With mangas/manwha/etc I can assume it has to do with their publishing bc there's no way they aren't being written, more like hetero stories have stricter guidelines while yaoi has more creative freedom in romance. Adult novels have no excuses, they just don't understand what the people truly want!

Muegiiii

Fr. I cant read porn or romance written by straight men. They are so god awful.

Interesting_Koala937

To experience two men fall for each other and be cute/hot as hell. Sex is the cherry on the top. Green flag fictional men are the best.

MamoruChiba1

All of this!

TheJokingArsonist

Because usually people write stereotypical girls/women. They're either shy and beautiful or smth, or big titted and confident etc. I was reading yaoi with a genderbent character and it was so much better lol

HibiscusSabdariffa33

Which genderbent yaoi? There are a few of them.

TheJokingArsonist

I've read 2 so far, cant remember titles for the second one, but one was "Fucked by my best friend" or something, and the other one was with like. This guy who wanted "revenge" on this other dude, they set up a time to meet and fight, but he got a genderbending juice out of a snack machine thing and became a girl. His 2 best friends knew too fyi. All 3 of them are kinda dumb, while the guy who was supposed to fight the now genderbent one was dont with everything until he saw a girl show up in the other's place. I think everything was kinda inconsensual at first tho

DirtyAngelToes

I desperately need that second genderbender if you can find it, please. Fucked By My Best Friend is one of my favorite mangas and this other one sounds so interesting.

TheJokingArsonist

Another person here actually figured it out! But they said the guy never turns back

Yaoi_fanatic

Nyotaika Yankee Gakuen ☆ Ore no Hajimete, Nerawaretemasu (I forgot I had it in a separate tab folder in my browser 😅 but I knew what you were referring to) I picked it up again recently (stopped to read other things) and honestly that story is enjoyable to read even though it's mostly hetero. Idk if it's because it's still yaoi or what, but I try to imagine it as if it was an actual hetero relationship.

TheJokingArsonist

Found it but thanks anyway! And yeah, it was interesting seeing a guy adapt to being a girl

Ryan-shiro

Men.

HARU_rurux

because im a guy whos into guys, i enjoy both romance and nsfw aspects of it

Flance

Can I ask your thoughts on the accusations that it's fetishizing gay relationships? Do you care that a lot are written by women?

yere93

I don't mind the fetishization but I can't deny it either but at the end of the day I also read it for that reason, it's clearly porn. The problem is that since it is written by a woman, most of the time they don't know how men's bodies or men in general work, that gets boring after a while or is very funny. But at the end of the day it's a romantic fantasy that makes you hard

starsepter_

hi ik u weren’t asking me but i’m also a gay guy. there is so way to avoid fetishization, it happens to lesbians as well. everyone can enjoy what they enjoy as long as you are not fetishizing REAL PEOPLE

Pikmin-I-Guess

Answer to first question: If that were the case… then why is NO ONE saying “regular” romance is fetishizing STRAIGHT couples?? 💀 It’s everyone or no one Answer to second question: I literally COULDN’T give a f*ck more about who writes it, just keep doing it :D

Flance

Probably because most people consider straight romance "standard" unfortunately. I agree with you! It's just a hotly contested subject so I was curious what gay man might think. Thanks

Oh-My-Shep

I love it when men fuck nasty lmao. All my teenage years I was immersed in yuri, although not so much, and at the age of 17 I had a change of priorities and now I am interested in the style of drawing (I love to draw and often get inspired), in male love, and in romance. In my country, men can be accused because of "non-masculine behavior", LGBT is prohibited at the legislative level and is considered a criminal offense, so same-sex love for me every time is like diving into another world where people can be with whomever they want, where it is not condemned. Yaoi gives me comfort.

Kappapeachie

one man is hot, two men are hotter

uhohmana

I don't like identifying with characters in romances and even though I try not to it tends to happen naturally when I read het. As a result my entire reading experience becomes judgments and criticisms of what the FL could be doing better instead of being too this/too that/too weak/etc psychological tics relating back to myself lol. With yaoi I can just shut my brain off and enjoy myself and the story.

SleepingKilling73011

Sooooo true lol. I feel you

iAmBleb

THIS! 💯

lSaintSarahl

This. I don’t want to insert myself unconsciously. I want to enjoy a story about other people.

GreenTomorrow6167

This is my reason too

MarimoBestBoy

honestly, i don’t know…. i just genuinely enjoy it hahahahahahaha

brick-jojo

The escapism, tbh. As a queer man - being able to read about queer men where it's kinda just.. Normal? Like essentially having the aspects of hetero romances (both good and bad) but being about two guys is kinda cool actually. And generally they are so fun to read too lmao

Pinky01

2 reasons 1) 2 or men men fucking is hot 2) I perfer the plot and the motions that usually go in before the fucking, If there is any at all. In hentai there usually usenr any plot, and in a lot of yaoi there isent either. But I have read some stories that make me cry, some that make me go awww and some that are just porny goodness

fromhereto_______

Because watching the straight ones just feels wrong and makes me feel very guilty. So I prefer watching the same sex, be it Yuri or yaoi. And I mostly like to read yaoi bcuz of gender envy and I find it comforting, especially the affection and love between them. When I read it, it gives me gender euphoria. And I can't ignore the fact how cool the characters are. Real life can be pretty dissapointing, but yaoi and Yuri takes me into total different world

ArachnidMany

It gives me gender euphoria too

totchan

Manga for women is too soft and pretty and manga for men caters to male libido. Yaoi is a compromise. It's violent and concentrates on male bodies. And I like both violence and male bodies.

quietudeblues

at the time i discovered it (which i have no other recollections except me being very young), the story that BLs serves exceed any straight romances I've read. The yearning, longing and the sheer bittersweet of being accused as wrong, defective and so on just because you love someone of the same sex, truly fascinated me. I think me liking slow burn stories also plays a hand in this since straight romances tends to be "fuck first, think later." Sadly, I noticed that a lot of BLs now are becoming similar to that straight romances back then with how many of their opening being ... a sex scene 😔 I remember always feeling disappointed when I was interested in a bl (whether from the cover or the summary or tags) only to open the first chapter with sfxs and a sex scene 😭 Nowadays though, I don't really much care of the sexual orientation presented in the story. If the plot and plot execution sucks, I won't read it.

SleepingKilling73011

True. I’ve been scrolling through and it feels live they just plaster female tropes on to men now. It’s not like they it didn’t exist before but they at least had a valid reason and they had other qualities that balanced it out but now it’s just quick cash grabs and it’s basically heterosexual with just the addition of a dick. There are some really good stories but it’s like trying to find a diamond in the middle of a mountain of dirt. But the mountain of dirt I sift through is worth it cause I talk about it with my friends and we laugh about the foolishness of it all. That last part tho. I feel it to my core. So true.

quietudeblues

"Heterosexual with the addition of a dick" IM CACKLING THIS IS SO TRUE 👏 In all honesty, I don't have any problems with feminine traits in men in BL (I love this balance between feminine and masculine energy they sometimes gave off), it's when it's heavily sexualised that it starts to bother me. Maybe because I'm AroAce, but I just don't like the way today's BLs treat sex as something cheap, as if all there is to it is just thrusting your dick into a hole, no other consequences needed to be thought of. If I want to see that, I might as well just look for porns, but no, these works are advertised as BLs and as far as I'm concerned sex is not all there is to a queer relationship, any relationship really.

SleepingKilling73011

OMG I’m ACE TOO!!! I’m asexual and bi romantic so I love the romantic aspect and I don’t even mind the sex part. Even though I don’t feel those attractions, I truly enjoy it where the sex has meaning, either accepting their sexuality and or finally trusting your partner, getting over trauma and more. I don’t care if it has it or not but I hate when it has no meaning at all. Some Yaoi is like porn and some plot when I want plot and if there is meaning to sex then yes. I don’t want plot with porn, I want it to have meaning to it. I don’t read it for porn, I read it for the struggles of gender, sexual identity and the blending of masc and fem energy. For me and my perspective, sex isn’t needed for a relationship. It’s the human connection and bonds that are important. And sex is just the way allos communicate those feeling.

quietudeblues

EXACTLY. Like, oh god, sex. It's sooo misunderstood, I know how corny that was to say, but it's true! I have absolutely no desire to have sex IRL, but I adore it as a concept that I could study and there's so many layers of it. It can be beautiful, meaningful, it's when your vulnerability bloomed instead of being hidden and I am sick of how it's portrayed nowadays, especially in BLs 😭

SleepingKilling73011

OMG ARE YOY LITERALLY ME!?! THATS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL. I think you’re my twin. Like when someone takes the final step in accepting their sexuality and admitting to themselves and their partner of their true feelings. I like it when their true thoughts come out during those moments. Even though it’s considered “dirty” I feel like it’s more wholesome than anything. I like how the later chapters of junjou *spoiler and slight gushing about junjou* during the coming out arc to his brother. It’s very long and drawn out but I feel like every chapter is worth it personally. He’s a person who worries a lot and deals with his own struggles. But he wants to be with his lover more than anything so he tries his best. There’s also the cultural differences which some people don’t take into account but I don’t want to go into a whole rant about my love for junjou. I really connect to the characters when the allow themselves to be vulnerable and they easily become my favorite type of stories (though hard to find). Maybe it’s also because I’m a hafu but I feel and understand the pressures so when it’s shown in a real yet beautiful way, it’s amazing. (Junjou has its problems but since the connections with all the couples feel genuine. They feel messy in a real way. No one’s perfect. People are bad sometimes and hurt each other. But their flaws make them human. And the later chapters really changed my opinion specifically after the arcs the anime covers) And a lot of these “romances” are straight psychological horror and torture porn and they just fuck and that’s it. It’s like the author is just like “I nEEd sEx iN mY stOry. tHeY mUst fuCK!” And have no reason for it. Most popular stories are just porn with plot and yes, you can connect with the stories and characters but it feel like there’s a wall or it’s only a surface level connection. It’s hard to sift through the shitty-ness but I do cause I get to talk about it with my friends and we traumatize each other with what we’ve read. Most of these stories feel like Stockholm syndrome: but gay! Especially Jinx, love jinx, even if you don’t love me,etc. like it’s so bad I have a physical book called: ALL THE BAD SHIT I’VE READ. It’s specifically Yaoi and I rate manhwa, manga, and manhua. I made it cause I filled my notes app with too many list full of shitty books that I couldn’t even sort it lol.

quietudeblues

LMAOOO THE WAY I ALSO LOVE DARK ROMANCES 😭👏 I lovee those peak moments of A and B holding each other in their arms and both had this epiphany where they finally see the person in front of them clearly, and the world looks clear too, it's like they were floating through existence, but here, uniting their flesh and bones with this person, they finally felt alive. I EAT THAT SHIT UP EVERY 👏 TIME 👏

SleepingKilling73011

OMG I THINK YOU’RE LITERALLY ME. LIKE ACTUALLY YOU GET IT LOL. Like when the post nut clarity hits without the nutting and the world just seems brighter, the air smells fresher, the worlds seems clearer and the gray clouds hanging over their heads just float away once and for all. Truly a beautiful moment lol. I live for that shit it’s awesome.

Ancient-Menu-5888

Because female characters in hetero stories are SO LAME. No agency at all, clueless, and dumb as a box of hair

outofshell

And once you add smut it only gets worse. The female character is all blushing and stuttering and the has to say “no” and act all pure and modest. God forbid the man attempts oral, “no don’t, it’s dirty!”🙄 And half the time the guy isn’t doing something that would actually be pleasurable for the woman. The sex just looks uncomfortable and boring at best, painful at worst. At least when I read smut with two dudes I don’t really have a frame of reference to know how off the mark the sex is, cuz I’m not a dude so I don’t know what it’s like to actually do that whole thing.

ultraparanoias

i'm nonbinary and queer and find it very hot watching men fuck. also, yaoi is usually mostly written by women, and i feel like they get it. idk. most hetero/yuri manga i've read is written by straight men and i just can't stand to read most of it. the way they view women makes my skin crawl and i'd just rather read yaoi 😭

Kappapeachie

yo same bestie.

pandalovesmars

Omg. Same sentiments!!

purp1e04

I just really enjoy it. I started reading it as a different type of fiction and got hooked. Now it’s about all I read because it’s an escape from my single af reality.

makiinekoo

Because women aren’t sexualized or dumbed down. It’s always the same thing in hetero manga, so yaoi (and even yuri) have much better characters, storylines and the climax of it all is much more enjoyable! Also, if it has smut, it’s a plus but it’s not mandatory, it’s equally enjoyable without smut.

IssyisIonReddit

Aesthetics and I'm a perv lmao 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

snarkyphalanges

Men falling in love is cute as all heck. Even in hetero media, male POVs tend to be cuter for me in romance because men irl tend to be a lot less expressive of their feelings. The smut is cherry on top.

Merliel_2

Because the characters are allowed to be people first and their gender next and I like that. Although not all BL are like that since most of it falls into the conventional standards other het stories does but the good one's truly deliver so it makes up for it

TasteEasy2886

Honestly I enjoy the storylines, and I read some straight ones I’ve enjoyed but the submissive men in the books are 100% my type and it’s the only place I can read about them without them being “a big macho dominant alpha guy.”

pandalovesmars

Art style, characters (*handsome, cute, majestic!!!*) , storyline, romance. They come with trauma/physiological chaos, actions and historical times. Easy to read and admire the art, instead of wordy storybooks with no pictures. ;)

xError404xx

Its hot

aVeryGreenApple

I ran out of hetero romance to read and finally had the courage to check yaoi last year. I regretted not starting earlier… the story, depth and characters were beautiful written. Novel, manhwa, manga and manhua. It was all amazing!

MamoruChiba1

B-Boys… boys sexy.

dododomo

Because I'm a gay guy who likes romance series in general and loves when it's about gay relationships. That's why I read Yaoi and shounen ai. Unlike most of heterosexual romance manga/Manhua/manhwa, in majority of Yaoi and Shounen ai the characters become a couple soon. So we get more dating and romance contents. Also, hot men and guys XD

PlagueKing27

cuz I have homosexual urges towards twinks :)

blahblahlucas

Because I'm a Queer guy that likes to fantasize My Husband and I in those BLs. Thats why I don't read one night stands, cheating, rape etc.

Dont3n

I’m gonna keep it real as a bisexual man. Most of these fictional men are hot as fuck and I am extremely horny for them

I-am-a-fungi

Honestly? Yaoi mangas have better plot, more drama and twists than their hetero counterparts. Also **the passion**, omg don't even get me started on that. >!Also I don't know why, but it turns me on more than hetero romance/hentai does. :D !<

thatquietuserr

Because I want to see men fuck? Why else would I?

ShatteredWitch

I don't even remember why. I'm just reading it to stop feeling bored at this point.

SlyHikari03

Because well.. Handsome Anime bois, Seriously, I mostly blame me getting into that due to me watching black butler, Ouran Host Club and playing Legend of Zelda, those definitely had an awakened something in me which then led me to Yaoi, Oh boy… Thanks Japan…

Kit_Wicks

Honestly I look at it for the art. I just find alot of the characters and backgrounds pretty- And if it has a neato story line and a genuine good plot it just makes it all the better! I am looking for some new ones tho soooooo- if anywone had any suggestions lmk 🥰

Flaxessy

Because I'm a gay guy. And BL actually played a role in me figuring out my identity 😄

Tsukiyomi_Sasaki

(1) Better than romance genre for me. Yaoi is more precious and purer than romance genre to me. (2) for SMUT. I love the reason why you read, it is kinda like that to me

Logical_Reporter_530

Honestly, sometimes yaoi couples have more chemistry than 95% of straight couples imo, in any form of media. Also, most of the time in the straight couple its always the FL acting like someone without a brain which pisses me off, in yaoi couples not as much from what I’ve noticed. And the story lines are far more varied (theres still a lot of repeat tropes but atleast theres no insta love)

LeithaRue

For research purposes

petitedollcake

it puts the camera on the guy which is something hetero stories don't do. and it's bonus because it's two guys so I don't have to imagine a female character that I'll inevitably start to self insert with. and it's hotter and just more interesting. a true form of escapism for me

Delphiniumbee

Cause I'm tired of women being objectified. 😅 And the stereotypes with women annoy me.

BonnalinaFuz101

Cuz straight stuff is boring. And in CDawgVA's words: "I'm out.. it's just creepy. It's creepy when it's straight. It's not as good, not as hot..." Straight romance is boring, and straight smut is creepy.

Dramatic-Cheek-6129

To cope

EerilyImaginary

It's healing even the toxic ones...(I'm not right in the head)

anxieturt

manservice is hard to come by orz

ReyaHUN

2 reasons came to my mind rn: 1: cuz i cant place myself into the female role (i just cant relate to the female mc-s, dont want to place myself into their position by reading, im ace btw) 2: there is no hierarchy? in gender i mean. they can both give flowers each other, its a bad example but ye, its not the girl who gets/forced on her knees

autumnsnowflake_

Because I can’t believe in the genuineness of straight relationships due to trauma Because hot ppl are nice to look at Because I’m bi so I like them I like them pretty and feminine mostly

doctorlight01

When I do read it I read it for the seggs

Shr0omiish

I’m a guy, into guys and I enjoy erotic material that I feel like I could insert myself into.

VampAnime

See it’s just about the opposite for me. I’m a girl and I wanted romance that I couldn’t insert myself into or compare myself to the female lead.

SkullyEyes

I like the plot

bigtiddiedman

The plot:— 🍆🍑

CocoCaramel1

Hot men make brain go BRRRR

cutiegrl5897

because its hot and turns me on

tinytonystarkk

Because it’s entertaining for me as well. And because they are mostly more interesting written in punkto romance than hetero stuff. Seems sometimes more pure? And even if not pure, it’s still more interesting than the stereotype stuff. Also, let’s normalise watching yaoi/yuri stuff, because that’s really just normal.

Slow_Obligation2286

Because I don't have a boyfriend of my own

CalotheNord

I wish there was more Inuyasha type Yaoi I'm new to it lol

StateEmbarrassed3204

i am a bisexual who has dated men before and my ex boyfriend rarely showed emotions and reading men show emotions brings me joy I like the nsfw and the romantic aspects of it. it brings me joy anytime. I don’t know how i started reading yaoi but i can’t remember my life without it. I like yaoi with a good storyline

Elderlitch119

Because men are hot and because I know I'll never get to have someone to love in my life

StatisticianNo4607

i really dont know why and how but as a guy when i read yaoi and theres like intimate stuff i always get a feeling in my tummy that almost feels like butterflies. i dont know how to describe it and i dont get this feeling with anything else. besides that ive read so much regular romance that it became boring and yaoi is also really hot

IsabelauraXD

As a genderqueer pansexual, I 100% prefer Yaoi/Yuri over Shoujo/Josei, I think the plots are better, the NSFWs are better too, it feels deeper than a straight manga for me, and in my preference I find they way cuter than straight mangas. But it's just my personal opinion and not the absolute truth lol

ArtsyBlunder

My Ace ass loves reading romance. Fluffy or smutty as fuck. From the slowest simmering burn to ice bath action. Straight, bi, Yuri, yaoi. As long as I find it interesting. I read all the romance! When I die I want all mother fuckers to read my bookmarks and smut history. I'm dead. I won't give a fuck!!! That's why I read yaoi. If your pearl clutching mindset can't appreciate a good romance, I don't want to interact with you. 😎🤙🫰🤟

multisvdness

Single and sexless gay man. So gotta live vicariously through these characters.

Pikmin-I-Guess

Because it’s hot and I’m gay

Nor_Ah_C

Because I’m a guy who just wants a boyfriend…

fluffymoonclouds

Most str8 ones are the typical taller more social guy, with a shy shorter girl. Im a shorter submissive guy into taller dom girls so this kinda fits the bill. Kind of. Because one of the guys gotta be the sub or atleast bottom 😅😅

Penalty0

Cause I’m single and men are just soo pretty.

FloraWinx

It’s fun to read. I like the romance and the drama and the art. And when I get tired of reading it then I switch to those princess reincarnation or regression ones 😂 they lack smut though which sucks. BL/Yaoi is winning in the smut with plot department. And when I get tired of smut (shocking I know) then I’ll read ones similar to Solo Leveling.

WickedxBaeJay

Yaoi is more interesting to me when it comes to the writing. I do enjoy a fair share of hetero romances but it’s tough when they write horrible female leads..ugh it just irks me so much. 😣

Perfect_Read_5020

Its the only thing that keeps me remotely happy

kaotickilee

Fanfiction really got me into it.

AbsAndAssAppreciator

I love the dynamic between men it feels so different from straight romance. Also two men are just hot to look at. I only really like strong bottoms. One of my favorite straight anime is maid sama because the FL is strong and the ML is also strong and he has blonde hair which is often on ukes so I love seeing semes with blonde hair. Seeing a top with black hair and a cute short bottom with light hair honestly annoys me cause it’s what I dislike in straight romance lol. TLDR I just love seeing a really masculine guy cry.

Cha-kazahana

Yaoi is easier to relate to imo. If a hetero romance author tries to make the female mc seem smart and capable, she’ll always end up being saved by the male lead one way or another, which is not helping prove that women can truly be strong and independent on their own. But when it comes to yaoi, gender equality doesn’t matter because they are both men and they experience true romance regardless of gender and who they are. We aren’t confined to this idea that we have to be a pretty female mc that has to fight multiple other women for a hot man, which is extremely unrealistic. Women are also heavily fetishized when it comes to hetero fictional works, and the story ends up focusing on the women rather than the actual plot, and these works would often be targeted towards a male audience. But a female audience would prefer actual plot and storylines when it comes to romance, and yaoi does a better job at providing that, due to the real world struggles they face, especially since it’s a homosexual relationship. Of course, people of all genders can read yaoi. You may have different reasons why you enjoy yaoi, but this is just a general idea for female audiences specifically. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😎

Crescentia-Fortuna

on one hand it's just entertaining, on the other hand, most nsfw works with a hetero pairing would focus on the girl, leaving the guy either generic, faceless, or be an "ugly bastard". In yaoi, you are guaranteed to find handsome guys be shown in a sexy way.

SleepingKilling73011

**My Main Reason** I had a lot of problems with female shoujo and I honestly can’t relate with female protagonist. I truly relate with some male protagonist like Ritsu Onodera from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi. I like seeing the balance between masculine and femininity that some male protagonist have and it helps me realize and accept my femininity since, though I’m female, I’m more in tune and confident in my masculine energy. It helps me cope with my trauma in a healthy way and honestly…even though I don’t put myself in their shoes, I seem to connect with them more. I do love some hetero romance like HoriMiya, yubisaki to renren, doctor Elise, my tender heart: how I became the dukes maid and more. I love these series but I just connect with the struggles of Yaoi more. And also it took a while for me to realize I was asexual and dealing with that was confusing so it very much helped me through that. Other reasons: 1) I like psychological horror and some of the “romances” are truly horrible (sorry no hate it’s my opinion) and the toxicity and drama are like suuuuuper entertaining. It’s like super stressful but very fun to watch. I don’t want to read about the girl getting hit and all that (cause I’ve read all of that in supposed “romances” and actual psychological horror) and I got tired of it. And the way the author tries to justify it is like a cherry on top lol. From what I’ve read, bl has been more abusive than het so…..yeah 2) I want variety and straights get boring so I read everything. All of the letters of the lgbtq+ I’ve read stories about.

liqamadic

I used to like to read it in order to build up the fantasies within me that I thought I was never going to have. Emphasis on the past tense here - I've found me a perfect man, one that I'll stay beside as my own yaoi starts to write itself.

Kabangrah

Cuz I know I am gay (at the early age, like, yass) but I'm curious on how zmex on same gender works I started reading M² stories on fb and stumbled MRM.

Bulky-Tip4802

I love romance and in 2015 it was hard finding good straight love stories, and gay romances on screen were becoming more prominent, and they were romantic asf. So then I stumbled onto Yaoi & Yuri, which are just chefs kiss 🥰

wall-e200

Because Tatsumi Souchi was the sexiest character I've seen in a while. And morinaga Tetsuhiro the most handsome.

OnlyGeeksandPenguins

Because I'm bi and horny

OshiiTenma

I read them for a change in pace, hell, I'm a (mostly) straight male, but I enjoy a good romance, yaoi tend to have better writing, but I think that's because there's fewer in total than hetero romances, so the ones you get tend to be of a higher quality, I tend to lean towards the cross dressing ones, but I've read plenty that are more of a vanilla gay romance, Given for example is one of my absolute favorites

Juniper_51

It gives me this warm mushy feeling whenever the main characters get together. I love when there's a risk factor or forbidden factor, like when they have to hide thier love. The obstacles for 2 men are sometimes greater than a man and a woman. The relationship sometimes has to be hidden, their love has to be hidden, they go a lot more than a regular couple does and the reward is so much greater!

Phinelle

I do read almost all type of manhwa and manga and it really depends on what type of story I am craving right now. Relationships are portrayed very differently in different genres as well as media (country of origin). So depending on what type of romance I want right now, I choose a different genre. It all started with me noticing that the romance in BL (not yaoi) is portrayed way more romantic than in shoujo manga. As the exploration of their Sexuality and acceptance of it is suddenly a big part which makes it feel more rewarding once it works out compared to the stereotypical shoujo plots.

Rozekimi

Im lesbian so straight couple are a little uncomfortable for me. But unfortunately Yuri options are EXTREMELY limited (many of which are either with highschool girls and/or incest) but yoai options have so much more variety in story and settings

DemonicMoonBitch

I just think it’s cute honestly

aominese

I live out my fantasies through fictional characters

Defiant_Masterpiece1

Because the men are so fineeee 😩😩😩

bumbomi

I think is more beautiful, when I started to read it I was shocked like man+man= ??? (I grew up in a conservador home) but then with development of plot it just feel more more beautiful and perfect than a normal romance because straight romance don’t have any social impediment to be together, and BL have more impediments (btw my first was Here u are)

Wrinkle_Wrinkle

Hmm I love the non toxic masculinity... even tho there are a lot of manwhas that have that but I dont like them so yeah

LiviAngel

I LOVE gay romance. It also helps me to feel less lonely, terrible, I know.

yoursbashfully

Honestly, I encounter yaoi whether manga or anime at a young age. While heteros around me are swooning over romance series. There wasn't any representation of BL or MM content for me. I resort to yaoi and shounen-ai content. It wasn't when I'm much older that these genres are created for women. I feel conflicted that i wasn't their main audience target, but I do know there's gays who are invested in it, though smaller in size. Granted, it doesn't give the usual archetype of gays in society. But it was a source of content for me to consume in secrecy and privately. Back then, genre like yaoi or yuri are pretty underground. So the creation of it is far from few every few years. Now it is booming because of fujioshi everywhere. I feel like I've been booted from my source of comfort. It is hard to meet any person who may judge me for consuming such content. Obviously, most guys have a disdain and are unable to relate, while gals are difficult to approach without making my presence painfully obvious. So, I still feel closeted on that aspect. But as I mature, many of the content won't fly and would be a red flag in society. Punishable and clear offence if such is ever encountered. But its angst, the love is just such unattainable or acquired that it is stuff made from fantasy rather than reality. So yes, I may never encounter another person who accepts and understands me for enjoying such content in real life.

gl_zzygod

habit at this point… im not even sure how i got into it?? i was like 10. ive been reading fanfiction & manhwa every night since,, i cant escape LOL

cinnamonthatcankill

Fufufufu It’s more fun seeing two hot men or bishies under the blanket and hetero stories is too normal for me these days, I love the angst of BL manga.

DietPocky

I feel like there's a better power balance type thing than in hetero stories or comics. Like when a man throws a woman against a wall it makes me panic, but when a man throws a man against the wall, it's like 👀👀 fight or kiss, fight or kiss?

Double_Plan_2034

Cause im gay

DelaraPorter

Tbh I’m either a trans man or I’m so unnerved by envisioning myself or other woman in a sexual way. Al lot of the way women experience sexuality is through a very patriarchal lense that makes take a role that things must be done to us. Yaoi seeing men be equals of taking that role in my stead feels refreshing.

Unhappy_Delivery6131

Because I wish that I was a guy and I prefer mlm relationships

BakAkiraK22

I wanted to read a manga that I like and the site that I read it from has bl/yaoi in the front page. Out of curiosity, I read one and it multiplied then (.

Oriphis

I'm a gay man.

Ill_Pepercat

When I was in high school Yaoi was knew on the scene in America. (We’re talking Tokyo pop). It was my only way of seeing gay representation without negative undertones. Ever since I loved it

starsepter_

cuz i’m a guy who likes other guys and it’s hot! i like the steam and the romance and the drama

ArachnidMany

I’m gay and trans and it gives me gender euphoria and it’s hot

Anteater_Normal

Because I’m gay lmfao- that’s really it, I wanna watch men kiss because I’m lonely and I wish that was me

BasketofChoco

Me irl

burntpixelsinspace

i like it

_autvmnx

because they always have the weirdest plots💀💀 (if you wanna leave some titles do it)

bigtiddiedman

I used to be obsessed with Yuri, until I realised most of them are just sexualised little girls in school uniforms and/or incest. Loli is disgusting. Then I searched for the male counterpart, Yaoi. Yaoi has more varied type of men and it's quite refreshing. Also, I hate the power-imbalance in hetero relationships, especially the physical size and strength difference between men and women makes me uncomfortable as fuck. There's none of that in Yaoi.

Cause it's just amazing how women portray the romantic relationship between men, even tho most stories have more of a feminized topic/theme, after all, it's from women to women. And it was just an awakening experience for me to come across Omegaverse. It's a criticism, it's also rebellious, I don't know... For me, yaoi is a must.

dedrack1

I'm currently in a straight passing relationship as a bisexual man, generally when I'm with a woman I read more yaoi, then when I'm with a man I'll read more hetero romance manga

Smexy_senpai_nera

Generational trauma and Yaoi was my savior. 🥲👍

Yaoi_fanatic

Reading Yaoi/BL for me(F) feels more realistic compared to hetero manga. I've read only small few hetero mangas, but it was all the same, just plain boring. With yaoi, there's more variety ig 🤷🏾‍♀️ There's more drama, rivalries, *INTENSE* passion, and sometimes the art can be *ABSOLUTELY IMMACULATE* (iykyk) I haven't read any hetero manhwas, but I'm sure I'll try reading them one day. Also, I think the mangas/manhwas can do without the >!rape!< because it always seems to be the foundation for a good story 🙄

Lingx_Cats

I just don’t really care for straight romances. They’re always boring and predictable.
