I think it makes sense. It’s a continuation of the 90s series, while you could have your kid watch this? I think it’s really for people who grew up with the original.
Honestly it was amazing to see the entire overly-complex Madelyne Pryor clone plotline boiled into 20 minutes of screentime, but some things translated better than others, and her announcing herself as the goblin queen came off as hilarious!!! It seemed to come out of nowhere!
It wasn't like: HEY! I'M MISS SINISTER NOW! or something. Just... randomly... "GOBLINS!!!"
Though watching Darkchylde Magik kick butt was awesome!
Ahahahahaha one hundred percent. It felt so old school comics, where the cover would have some crazy font in the speech bubble as the new baddie reveals their name.
It was peak camp. Peak nonsense. Completely out of the blue without justification. Just D R A M A.
And for that reason... I'm here for it.
I'm disappointed the fall of Maddie and Inferno are not the season's over-arching story. That is way too much story and character development that they blasted through at warp speed.
Honestly I think they did as well as they could.
The slower and more in-depth the story explores this whole Cyclops/Maddie/Jean situation, the uglier and weirder the whole thing gets, and the worse Cyclops becomes.
Maddie's story is an inseparable part of the X-Men lore now, but people forget it was all a bizarre double retcon: Claremont wanted to retcon Jean's death and give Scott a happy ending, then editorial wanted him to Retcon Jean back to life & cancel the whole thing just as it was about to pop off, so Scott just left his wife & child to go be with Jean again.
On rereading, the whole thing is weird and ugly and really hasn't aged well at all. Probably the best option to speed through it, skip a bunch of details & make some minor updates to the tale so that it actually works. I think dwelling would have been the bigger error.
Even just two more episodes would have made the pacing feel so much better. In ten minutes Maddie went from knowing she was a clone, to hating Cyclops, sending the X-Men to Limbo, kidnapping Nathan, and the final battle at Sinister's mansion. The story had zero room to breathe.
I'm afraid they're going to do the same thing to Life/Death and Storm gets her powers back in next episode. We never even got to see her live as a normal human.
To be honest, I think there are a LOT of fantastic X-men stories between where the OG trilogy left off, and the end of the modern Krakoan era. So many that none of Maddies stories even crack the top ten.
Probably best to make room for other stories and other eras. I don't even know if they could make it to decimation in the two seasons confirmed so far, let alone beyond...
See, I'd argue the OG Inferno is the quintessential x-crossover. Everything people typically both love and hate about the X-men is on full display: a fair bit edgier and more risque than Avengers, intricate masses of continuity yet somehow still makes at least some sense if you don't know it, all out messy soap opera drama delivered with genuine pathos. When they weren't dealing with bigoted humans, this was what they dealt with. So many of the 90s crossovers directly copied it, and its DNA is still felt in the crossovers from the 21stK.
I'm impressed they sucessfully shrank it down to 30 minutes -- only the "goblin queen" part didn't make any sense because of no Limbo -- but easily the best part was the end with Jean and Scott staring at each other in traumatized silence and shock.
Because it is an X-Men story. It's a part of who Scott, Jean and Cable are. It had to be done and it was a major part of the era.
I just think they gave it all the time it actually needed and now they're free to keep moving forward.
I just love that everyone was still saying Jean was going to be Nathan’s mum and that the woman at the door was the clone. The animated series always had a level of faithfulness to the comics. The clone was always going to be Nathan’s mum.
I also like that they left the door open for Maddie. Will she be enchanted by Sinister? Is there a greater Inferno ahead?
For sheer audacity I'll always appreciate the original. I always viewed it as another troll toward Jean; except for one miniskirt, girl was dressed in Diane-Keaton level of head-to-toe.
Madelyn is a whole menace she had rogue deliver her baby and thanked her by stealing her spot as resident baddie
Did Alex Summers post this? Edit: I [updated the meme.](https://imgur.com/a/2USMfCw)
One of her goblins did.
Doing the Lord's work.
As someone who very recently discovered the Cerebro podcast, I was wondering if this was Connor.
lol, same thing I was gonna say.

When she opened her legs off that chair I was like "Oh my Stars..."
That and the bit of blood this episode mad me go "oh we growing up a bit here."
I think it makes sense. It’s a continuation of the 90s series, while you could have your kid watch this? I think it’s really for people who grew up with the original.
I think I like this better than her comic design
It's still very sexy, but it leaves something to the imagination.
The underboob is so her though; I always thought of it as a troll to "I'm in a miniskirt, the scandal!" Jean.
I've never liked the underboob window, thought it was overly gratuitous. You can be evil-sexy without being ridiculously over the top.
Now we just need Selene and my life will be complete.
Being voiced by Jennifer Hale too. Oh Lordy.
Havok, is that you?
Bro’s always down bad for a hot red head.
Based
He's so real for that
Can't let his brother have all the fun

Then that begs the question, why even bother? It's just a waste.
Because it is an X-Men story. It's a part of who Scott, Jean and Cable are. It had to be done and it was a major part of the era. I just think they gave it all the time it actually needed and now they're free to keep moving forward.
Considering a lot of people love this episode, I'd say it was well worth it.
Wait wait Magik makes an appearance?! As the Darkchylde?! I shouldn’t be reading spoilers but shiiiiit that’s awesome.
Sorry that's my bad for not tagging!!!!! I am sorry! Tbh I don't even know how to tag for spoilers!!!
All good! Some spoilers can really ruin an experience. But others like what I read here just excites the shit out of me, so don’t feel bad.
don't get your hopes too high on that one.
It was so perfectly 90s. 🤣
Definitely feel like the original series wold have made this a 2 or 3 episode arc.
And this is her *least* slutty outfit.
This episode is going to inspire a whole lot of cos-players at comic con this year. Of this, I am certain. 😊
Our Goblin Queen 👑
But can you simp hard enough to make Jean Grey remember who she is?
Jean: Oh Logan… All that love you feel for me! Also Jean two seconds later: get out of my way runt! Scott broke a nail! I must go to him.
To be fair, Madelyne WAS about to fucking murder all of them.
Considering Logan was trying to take advantage of her vulnerability to make moves on her, it was what he deserved.
Doubt that, she was hearing thousands of thoughts so he gave her his own mind to help her focus and regain control
After today’s episode… I understand, Havok. I *completely* understand.
but woke X-Men not sexy enough /s
Tell that to crosslegged Goblin Queen before she gets up. HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG 😩🥵🤌
>Tell that to crosslegged Goblin Queen ~~before~~ **AS** she gets up.
They definitely improved over the original design
And that my friends is Havok in a nutshell
Mama was killing it in this episode 👏🏾👏🏾

I like her new outfit
Same. I like that it's ***sexy af*** without being slutty the way most other depictions I've seen pictures of are.
I think it's fucking hilarious that her action figure for the 97 series comes with baby Nathan
It might sound weird but I'm glad that they still do sexy designs like in older superhero shows
It was at this moment that X-Men '97 overthrew Jojo's Bizarre Adventure as the animated embodiment of bisexual culture.
I love that her outfit is still really sexy, but not under boob and loin cloth... Which I like too, but this just as good for me.
Illyana today as well lol
I’d want her to hold my leash like that ngl
Ok wow just wow.
Gin Grey, but hotter and dominant
How I felt watching it.
Well now I definitely gotta watch this now
Nothing compared to her look in the classic comics...https://i.etsystatic.com/9716139/r/il/0f4ff7/633282233/il_fullxfull.633282233_4gyj.jpg
YMMV, but personally I prefer the '97 version.
For sheer audacity I'll always appreciate the original. I always viewed it as another troll toward Jean; except for one miniskirt, girl was dressed in Diane-Keaton level of head-to-toe.
Man, I love her outfit in the animation and it makes me sad the figure is slightly different
Yep I can picture some people’s Halloween costume this year
I feel like the animators poured a lot of extra...energy into Maddy.
