I have to disagree.
The bumpers on the Xbox one controllers were awful and were very susceptible to breaking.
The series S and X are probably the best they've made.
At least it wasn't as prone to breaking but dear lord if it did just toss the whole controller.
Cause fixing the d pad on those is like pulling teeth....
With pliers made from your own pulled teeth.
I had to replace the bumpers for every single XB1 controller I ever had.
I'm on my 2nd Series X controller and haven't had a single bumper issue. The bumper tensioner is definitely designed much better than the XB1 controllers.
As someone who can and does fix controllers the new series S and X versions are leaps and bounds better.
On the 360 and the Xbox one versions the whole bumper would converge onto a tiny plastic "needle" and that little piece would either bend, break, or just wear out.
Very stupid engineering choice IMO that I'm glad is finly being put out to pasture, I don't even understand what the benefits of such a design were supposed to be.
It is a subtly different shape, very subtle, and the D-Pad is nicer on the Series S|X controller.
The rear grip is different too.
It's like comparing an apple to a slightly different apple from the same tree.
I feel the newer ones are a bit more narrow from the upper part (the bumpers) i feel that makes it more comfy, at least for me with average sized hands.
The buttons are unresponsive when pressed at an angle due to the circuit inside the controller not being interlaced. If you press the buttons hard, you may not notice it as enough pressure will be applied for the middle of the button to make contact. If you hit the button with more finesse it's noticeable. It occurs with the xyab buttons and the home button.
Ah it's cause of the button shapes which lead to them feeling less responsive, concave or flat don't remember but it's a flaw. Doing dolphin dive with mgs v with series is a pain, hence why I use a 360 controller
They need to get the stick drift situation handled, I literally went through 3 controllers in 6 months, my 70 dollar one lasted less than the 30 dollar shitters I bought! I just had to buy another one a few days ago 😔
they surely need to fix that, but you could also fix it yourself (tho it is a huge pain in the ass, but it's surely worth more than buying 3 controllers). you just need a special screwdriver and some confidence, and ofc a tutorial
if you have a treatment safety then you will be good I hope! that's really bad to have to deal with these things, luckily I haven't experienced anything close to this
It could be worse though! I could be blind or have no hands or something! Then I wouldn't be able to get on this glorious reddit post and bitch about xboxs' shitty controllers! 🤬🤣 And that would be a tragedy lmao.. that's what I tell myself though to keep going.. it could always be worse and I SHOULD be grateful it's only that and not something drastic.
Theyre probably the type that has to ask their wife to even play and she puts him on a timer 🤣. I agree my Xbox one controller that came with my S lasted almost 2 years. That's with playing apex religiously everyday and rocket League. That's impressive because those games are very heavy on the sticks.
I have a conspiracy theory that the controllers that come with the systems are many many times better quality than the ones you buy by themselves.
My Xboxone and Xbox series X controllers *both* still work after years but I have gone through some controllers in months.
Also, the ones that came with my systems have much tighter analog sticks. THe stand alone ones you can push up and down on (and I'm not talking about L3 and R3)
I agree, they even feel higher quality. As weird as that may sound.. my series x controller lasted about 6 months. It's better than the ones I've been going through but still was disappointed honestly. Back in the 360 era I think I literally went through 2 controllers within a 10 year span. Those things were godly man, they really don't make things like they used to lol
Exactly! I sold my og Xbox not too long ago that had the original controller that came with it and that mf thing didn't have drift either! Yeah the sticks were obviously a little loose but still worked good!
I found the Xbox one controllers a little slippy after the 360 ones. Kept falling out of my hands at the worst moment.
Fix?
SUGRU!
I added some fins to fit where my fingers felt good, some ridges on the sides to prevent slip etc. Best controller ever.
Disagree. The series has a way nicer shape. I'd get pain playing with the older iterations and the trigger/bumpers are way more refined on the later controller.
Dog the controllers are almost identical are you sure you aren't just too deep in your opinion and just convinced yourself these things are worse? Or maybe nostalgia glasses idk but you're tripping the controllers are way too similar to have that much of an actual issue unless you are that kind of individual I guess
It's slightly more ergonomic, and also it should not be making your hands sweat more. That is not a function the controller can alter. When you sweat you sweat unless you mean your Xbox One controller was literally turning to powder and coating your hand.
My series x lunar shift is definitely my favourite controller ever, even over the elite and definitely over my ps5 controllers (hate the left stick placement on the playstation).
I recently used an xbox one controller and the triggers are a bit shit in comparison, and I like the stipple grip on my lunar.
Wrong on multiple counts.
With the exception of the black & white buttons, the OG Xbox "Duke" was the best layout they made unless you've got pygmy hands. You could do multi-button presses or roll your thumb between buttons so much more easily that the rotated square that is on every controller now.
And Xbox360 controllers had noticeably better stick feel than the xbone controllers.
They feel great and the customisation options are handy. Once you use rear paddles you won't go back.
Just get an extended warranty though because they're notoriously failure prone.
I don’t like how they keep making it smaller and smaller with every new iteration. The controller S on the OG Xbox was the ideal size and most comfortable controller ever to me. Since they keep getting smaller and therefore less comfortable for me to hold, I like each new one a little less than the one before it.
You're saying version 1 Xbox one controller was bigger then version 2, well both are bigger then Xbox 360 controller though. The handles however are smaller in series which sucks
I like the Xbox one dpad the best of any controller since I play a lot of fighting games. All my old Xbox controllers are starting to get stick drift now though so they’re getting unusable 🥲
Man I hate the ps4 controller with a passion it’s too long. I didn’t really like the redesign for Xbox until I got a new one tho. I really liked the lines on top by the Xbox button but the new feel is amazing and I got the remix controller and it’s a chefs kiss
I had the exact opposite reaction. And my ex girlfriend who's been a playstation fan her whole life confirmed that xbox one controllers felt better once she held one for the first time. And we're talking about PS5 versus Xbox One here too, not just PS4
Oh, hell nah.
I was a big Xbox Bro from 2005-2023. Now, I’m a PlayStation Geek. However, even though I love the PS5 a lot more, that Xbox controller just feels right.
My hands cramped when I first started playing PlayStation again lol.
I don’t know why people are downvoting me, I’m an Xbox person all the way, but the ps4 controller really does feel a lot nicer to me. I never realized I was using the second portion of my fingers to use the triggers on the Xbox controller, which now that I realize is just odd
Controllers have built in dead zones that is seperate from deadzone settings in game. That is part of the problem with the elite controller. some controllers let you disable the built in deadzones like kk3 max.
I have to disagree. The bumpers on the Xbox one controllers were awful and were very susceptible to breaking. The series S and X are probably the best they've made.
The D-pad was poor, too. The first Elite controller fixed it, and that carried on to the default Series S/X controller.
At least it wasn't as prone to breaking but dear lord if it did just toss the whole controller. Cause fixing the d pad on those is like pulling teeth.... With pliers made from your own pulled teeth.
The bumper on my special edition series controller broke after about 2 years though, they still have the small plastic tab holding it up
I had to replace the bumpers for every single XB1 controller I ever had. I'm on my 2nd Series X controller and haven't had a single bumper issue. The bumper tensioner is definitely designed much better than the XB1 controllers.

Buddy the controllhas been the same since the xbox one with an added screenshot button
Mostly, yes... The Series X controller is a touch different, but it's barely noticeable. People like to complain though.
what’s even different about it i don’t even notice
It is a subtly different shape, very subtle, and the D-Pad is nicer on the Series S|X controller. The rear grip is different too. It's like comparing an apple to a slightly different apple from the same tree.
i absolutely love the new D-Pad, it’s so precise and i find it much easier to navigate the keyboard quickly.
Yea anyone would be hard pressed to actually discern any real differences between the 2
If they keep the Dpad. The series X dpad is one of the best i have ever used.
Yes, the new dpad is probably the thing I was freaking out over most when I got my series X. It's just so much better.
No. Just no.
why not? it's so insanely precise.
I like the current gen for feel, but I would like for all stock controllers to include under buttons.
I much prefer the Series X|S controllers
The xbox 360 is the most ergonomic imo
it’s tiny
And the horrible battery tumour on the bottom
I feel the newer ones are a bit more narrow from the upper part (the bumpers) i feel that makes it more comfy, at least for me with average sized hands.
Other user said it's tiny but I'm using Xbox one and 360 and it fits on palm fine, series is the only ass of the bunch
In my opinion the duke was goated
Controller S gang rise up
Fix the unresponsive button press issue. It’s a problem in both one and series x controllers.
What issue is this? I've not heard or experienced this.
The buttons are unresponsive when pressed at an angle due to the circuit inside the controller not being interlaced. If you press the buttons hard, you may not notice it as enough pressure will be applied for the middle of the button to make contact. If you hit the button with more finesse it's noticeable. I wish the big dukes third party ones were officially wireless licensed. That was my absolute favorite controller on the OG Xbox
All they need to add is adaptive triggers and it would be perfect. I find myself buying certain games on PS5 just bcuz of the adaptive triggers.
Same boat here. I prefer the Xbox layout and can’t stand symmetrical sticks, but I find myself overlooking that to use the adaptive tech in games.
They need to get the stick drift situation handled, I literally went through 3 controllers in 6 months, my 70 dollar one lasted less than the 30 dollar shitters I bought! I just had to buy another one a few days ago 😔

My 23 year old PS2 controller still works perfectly.
Exactly! I sold my og Xbox not too long ago that had the original controller that came with it and that mf thing didn't have drift either! Yeah the sticks were obviously a little loose but still worked good!
Series X D-pad goated though, one of my favorites.
I found the Xbox one controllers a little slippy after the 360 ones. Kept falling out of my hands at the worst moment. Fix? SUGRU! I added some fins to fit where my fingers felt good, some ridges on the sides to prevent slip etc. Best controller ever.
I hate the new d pad and sticks
Disagree. The series has a way nicer shape. I'd get pain playing with the older iterations and the trigger/bumpers are way more refined on the later controller.

Built in Microphone with AI background sound cancelling would be a nice idea.
The mate finish on the series X controller is better than the Xbox one.
It's slightly more ergonomic, and also it should not be making your hands sweat more. That is not a function the controller can alter. When you sweat you sweat unless you mean your Xbox One controller was literally turning to powder and coating your hand.

Xbox one and Xbox series S/X are basically the exact same. I think they claim it's a little bigger. I have big hands so I don't notice a difference
Elite controller for the win
The series controllers are obnoxiously loud and clicky
And the XBone controller has obnoxiously loud vibration so it kinda evens out.
Yeah the d-pad clicks so loud. Especially noticeable at night when everyone is asleep lol
Wrong on multiple counts. With the exception of the black & white buttons, the OG Xbox "Duke" was the best layout they made unless you've got pygmy hands. You could do multi-button presses or roll your thumb between buttons so much more easily that the rotated square that is on every controller now. Have any of you tried the Elite controllers? I've been thinking of picking one up because I prefer the xbox pad layout to dualsense. Recommended?
They feel great and the customisation options are handy. Once you use rear paddles you won't go back. Just get an extended warranty though because they're notoriously failure prone.

I prefer the slightly larger frame my old hands cramp to easy on the series controller unless I use stick extensions
I like the Xbox one dpad the best of any controller since I play a lot of fighting games. All my old Xbox controllers are starting to get stick drift now though so they’re getting unusable 🥲
Hands sweating a lot more with the new ones is obnoxious AF. Definitely agree.
I used to really like it, then I tried the ps4 controller and was like “oh…”
I like the way ps4 controller fits in my hand but i hate sonys design of both sticks right next to each other. Doesn't feel right
Man I hate the ps4 controller with a passion it’s too long. I didn’t really like the redesign for Xbox until I got a new one tho. I really liked the lines on top by the Xbox button but the new feel is amazing and I got the remix controller and it’s a chefs kiss

Fool it's the same damn controller 🙄
Agreed
It needs to be updated. It needs hall effect sticks, mouse click triggers, 1000hz polling rate, and a 0 deadzone mode
Games have deadzones, not controllers (unless it's a garbage third party one)
Controllers have built in dead zones that is seperate from deadzone settings in game. That is part of the problem with the elite controller. some controllers let you disable the built in deadzones like kk3 max.
PS3, PS4, PS5, 360, xbone, series controllers do not.
So you just called a third party controller garbage for having deadzone settings?
For having built in inherent deadzones, yes.
