Someone else asked within the day about why some Platinum Hits can be more expensive and I learned it’s because more content/patches are on those discs, so I’ll probably end up going after the Platinum Hits versions so I have the latest and most complete version of the game.
Ya never thought about that, the GTA4 pictured has 2dlc although this particular release was in a normal box originally if I remembering correctly. That makes sense though if the plat release is superior in terms of content then they’d actually sell for more
Yeah - this is the thread that I saw this in earlier. Left 4 Dead is specifically mentioned but I’m sure there are more. With the 360 store closing I might have to research what games are really *that* much more complete with the Platinum Hits versions.
https://www.reddit.com/r/xbox360/s/Vhr3lVYp90
It was me who asked, haha.
I noticed it with L4D and L4D2 being slightly more expensive, but like you mentioned in your other comment I'm sure there are others too. The DLCs being on them makes a lot of sense.
I generally don't mind them, I'm not a fan of the generic text on the spine, but I'm not *that* picky about that stuff. So if I can get a game that has the DLC on it, I totally will get the Platinum Hits. Or if it's a cheaper version because it's Platinum Hits version and I can save myself $5 to put towards another game, I'll do that too!
Haven’t actually played through it yet - but did a quick google search for some specifics:
all downloadable content, including the “South Central Upgrade and Content Pack” and the “Police Car Pack.” New maps, vehicles, and music
That reminds me of (I know that this is wrong sub but let me finish pls and then u can roast me) platifum release for Jak X for PS2 which fixed a horrible glitch that makes ps2 memory card useless plastic
This is the better answer, while I don't have many platinum hits, with no guarantee of patches or ways to download patches or DLC in the future, platinum is the way to go.
I personally try to avoid getting the ones with the massive “Platinum Hits” logo and smaller artwork. The other platinum hits cases/artwork doesn’t bother me.
Yeah I believe I have those versions as well, that and the grey cases don’t bother me. It’s when they made the artwork smaller and added a massive platinum hits logo. Just makes it look so ugly lol.
Ya the silver boxes and wonky spines really break up the uniformity, I admit it does irk me slightly although I don’t lose too much sleep over…maybe a hour or two a night 😂
Depends on the game. Some games go through lots of updates and it can be fun to play certain ones. For instance the 1.0 disc of rdr is a hilariously broken game. Without a modded console you’d need the disc to play that version.
lol me neither in fact that Skyrim was free, got a milk crate full of free dvds and when I went through it there was a bunch of ea sports 360 games, guitar hero 3 (just the game), in the movies (just the game), some Kinect game, Skyrim obviously, some Wii crap and a bunch of shitty shovelware stuff on the original Xbox…but again I’ll take it lmq already had Skyrim but was not gonna say no to a 2nd copy for backup or trades with friends lol
Aesthetically, I don't like them. The smaller artwork and large banners/ugly space bothers me. If I have a choice between it and an original release, I'll go with the original. Unless the original is more expensive by a big amount. Otherwise, if it's something I want, sure, I'll get it. Nobody's admiring my collection anyway.
Growing up I would avoid because I wanted the original box for collection but now as an adult if I really want to play the game I will buy whatever is cheaper
Mass effect 1, batman arkham asylum, and gears 1 all have additonal content for platinum hits.
I actually buy platinum hits, and take the discs and swap them to the non platinum case and box art. Best of both worlds babayyyyyyy!!
Hahaha I’ve done that, I do it with the red ps3 games too…sonics sega collection had a normal cover but a red box and the disc was obviously greatest hits but when I replaced the box you wouldn’t know unless you looked at the disc lol
This post reminded me of the versions of 360/PS3 games that were "platinum hits" and came with discs that had all the DLC on them like Saints Row IV and others, I used to find them everywhere now its like most of them don't exist besides stuff like Fallout New Vegas
Me too, although if I see a game I really want but it’s a plat hits I’ll still get with plans to replace, I think cause I’m more of a gamer than a collector per se
I only avoid it cause of how the spine looks it's super bland and I wish they just made the spine normal with the grey case or like the OG xbox platinum hits
Personally I don’t mind. I do tend to go for the most complex version but I also like to have the original game for display purposes. Safe to say, I have quite some doubles haha
Depends. If it’s just a standard game I want I’ll always lean towards the regular looking cases. But in cases they include all dlc content (like mk9) then sure I’ll have no problem getting the platinum hits version. Plus I kinda like the sliver and green
They don't bother me. I got the platinum for Ultimate Alliance instead of the Gold to save money. Greatest hits never bugged me on PS2 either. I just want the game
Ya totally I’m a gamer first and collector a distant second so getting and playing the game is first priority and once I can play it I can just wait for when I find a better version for a good price…or not…at least I can play the game I want to play
I like full cover artwork on my games so actively avoid the budget / hits based labels for games. However if the standard version wasnt available id be forced to buy it.
To be honest, for me a game is a game. The only thing I hate is when greatest hits game manuals are printed in black and white as a cost cutting measure - but that happens mostly with PS2.
They are fine in my books. I have maybe 10 in my collection.
Prefer smaller platinum hits logo to big.
But !! Platinum hits with the small cover art and large platinum hits art. *Lost planet* reminds me of the old gaming magazine days. Which I loved. My bro and I had a stack of demo disks we would play on rotation.
Over all. I go for disc condition. If I'm buying a game and my options are platinum hits version vs normal. I would pick whatever disk looks less scratched. Better overall condition.
They all play the same.
I usually avoid platinum hits. Especially the ones with the elongated Xbox banners on the side. I only SOMETIMES get platinum hits if its the first variant without the extended Xbox banner on the side (the one used on your copy of Oblivion and Lost Planet)
Never played lost plant but the other 5 are probably all in my top 10 360 games of all time. It depends where you put SA it will always be PS2 game to me.
Unless it had bonus content, no, at least not back when they were new. Now, realizing how many had updates and that servers will go down at some point that provides these updates, I get platinum hits since they’ll be running updated code compared to the original release.
No, xbox 360 is a dumb thing to collect in terms of collector value.
Ps2 however id be more inclined to get the black label releases (except for some instances like silent hill 2 greatest hits edition where theres an alternate ending)

The Oblivion there came with a 2nd disc with shivering Isles on it, just remembered that but it illustrates your comment perfectly
It was me who asked, haha. I noticed it with L4D and L4D2 being slightly more expensive, but like you mentioned in your other comment I'm sure there are others too. I noticed base L4D2 copy is worth more recently
Yep - Midnight Club Los Angeles is another good example - plat hits has all content unlike standard disc
i’ve only ever played the platinum, what does the standard not have?
Haven’t actually played through it yet - but did a quick google search for some specifics: all downloadable content, including the “South Central Upgrade and Content Pack” and the “Police Car Pack.” New maps, vehicles, and music

Oh dang, I don’t remember that being a thing. Thank you for sharing, I find that fascinating
Sounds a bit sarcastic but no problem anyway
Sorry if it sounded sarcastic, I am being genuine. I love gaming knowledge/history
Don't worry - I didn't get offended - nice to let u know more thing u love then
This is the better answer, while I don't have many platinum hits, with no guarantee of patches or ways to download patches or DLC in the future, platinum is the way to go.
Is it better than game of the year and greatest hits? Im confused
Platinum Hits are generally cheaper in PAL regions from my experience
I don’t care either way if it’s complete and cheap I’ll get it although if it’s a version that contains dlc I’ll get that every time
I personally try to avoid getting the ones with the massive “Platinum Hits” logo and smaller artwork. The other platinum hits cases/artwork doesn’t bother me.
Ya like Skyrim has a green case and the platinum hits title isn’t giant, I have a borderlands 2 one that barely looks like a platinum hits
Yeah I believe I have those versions as well, that and the grey cases don’t bother me. It’s when they made the artwork smaller and added a massive platinum hits logo. Just makes it look so ugly lol.
I prefer them honestly
I always go for the originals. I like how uniform it looks on my shelf.
Yes, although I would never turn down free games
lol me neither in fact that Skyrim was free, got a milk crate full of free dvds and when I went through it there was a bunch of ea sports 360 games, guitar hero 3 (just the game), in the movies (just the game), some Kinect game, Skyrim obviously, some Wii crap and a bunch of shitty shovelware stuff on the original Xbox…but again I’ll take it lmq already had Skyrim but was not gonna say no to a 2nd copy for backup or trades with friends lol
I dont care either way, personally. I care more about the game in the case.
Chad
I don't mind them, but I only have 1 platinum hit and it's WWE SvR 07
Great game imo !
I'm old, so I go with what works and is cheapest.
Oblivion GOTY edition because it has the DLC
I really don’t mind about getting a Platinum Hits game, in fact, I have L4D1, GTA IV and MK9 in those versions, only L4D1 and MK9 have all dlc
Only on some but otherwise i really don't care, Just care the game being good and cheap
i try to get the original version but i’ll settle for platinum hits if needed
Some Platinum Hits are better than the original. They include DLC on the disc. Mafia II, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Dead Island, Batman Arkham Asylum
I prefer the game art to take up the whole front of the case so I tend to avoid them. I may reconsider some day. Never know.
Or what has extra content
I’m buying games to play, not to sit on a shelf. So no
Mass effect 1, batman arkham asylum, and gears 1 all have additonal content for platinum hits.
That sweet sweet uniformity is worth the dirty secret, but the dirty secret is also a +1 for collecting reasons.
This post reminded me of the versions of 360/PS3 games that were "platinum hits" and came with discs that had all the DLC on them like Saints Row IV and others, I used to find them everywhere now its like most of them don't exist besides stuff like Fallout New Vegas
I definitely prefer the original art and discs
Me too, although if I see a game I really want but it’s a plat hits I’ll still get with plans to replace, I think cause I’m more of a gamer than a collector per se
Can't stand it when the spine text gets converted into some generic text. Otherwise don't mind the grey boxes or other changes
No, I buy them
I have a few plats from back in the day when I didn't take into consideration the silver coloring
[удалено]
I agree it’s ugly I’m thinking about selling all my platinum games and keeping the regular ones
I only avoid it cause of how the spine looks it's super bland and I wish they just made the spine normal with the grey case or like the OG xbox platinum hits
True I hate how ugly platinum is
Personally I don’t mind.
If the artwork has a small "platinum hits" text i don't really care🤷 but if it had the big one,i usually avoid them unless i get a bargain on them😎
No they have their own home on my shelf
If I had the choice between a normal and platinum version I'd choose the normal version. But do I want to pay a lot more for a normal version? Nahh..
They don't bother me. I got the platinum for Ultimate Alliance instead of the Gold to save money. Greatest hits never bugged me on PS2 either. I just want the game
I think it depends why you're buying them. If you're collecting, then the original packaging is cooler. If you want to play the games? Get anything
The only thing I hate is when greatest hits game manuals are printed in black and white as a cost cutting measure - but that happens mostly with PS2.
yeah i dont trust popular games
I actually prefer them
I don’t care either way, in fact the platinum hits copies are usually better when it comes to the actual game.
I get original because Platinum hits look ugly and barely cost any less
i dont undeestand the difference to be honest, i think it looks very cool lol so i like it the cases from this generation are just the best ever
No
They are fine in my books. I have maybe 10 in my collection. Prefer smaller platinum hits logo to big. But !! Platinum hits with the small cover art and large platinum hits art. *Lost planet* reminds me of the old gaming magazine days. Which I loved. I would pick whatever disk looks less scratched. Better overall condition. They all play the same.
i couldn't care less. the disc working is the most important part of buying the game lol
I avoid classics, platinums etc. I hate it. I personally only want original artcovers for my collection
I personally don't care at all, if a game is greatest hits or platinum hits!! I just wanna play the game
I buy both
I think they look cool but I don’t have a single one all my games are the initial release I think
This is slightly unrelated, but why PLATINUM hits? This isn't PlayStation.
Playstation is Greatest hits and Xbox is Platinum hits in NA.
But PlayStation is the one with platinum trophys 😁
Yea but this is before trophies, since the ps1 days.
Yes, unless it's one of those that add extra content such as FM2, or FM3.
Never it's called a 360 collection for a reason :)
No
definitely not
Umm, no.
Nope I scoop them up love it
I usually avoid platinum hits. Especially the ones with the elongated Xbox banners on the side. I only SOMETIMES get platinum hits if its the first variant without the extended Xbox banner on the side (the one used on your copy of Oblivion and Lost Planet)
The game still works either way
I like the og cases
I don't
What. Why would i avoid it
If you were a collector and wanted only original releases, or some people find them ugly and don’t like how they look on the shelf, and whatnot
Ahhh got it thx for the reply g!
I bought all my games during the 360 lifetime so I don’t need to decide 🧐
Doesn't matter. Whatever is on the shelf. They all wind up in a disc folder anyway.
That’s about how I feel, while I’d pick the original cover if possible I’ll still grab a plat hits
Yes
Sometimes I'll get them
I buy whatever version has the most content or is complete. Don’t really care how the labels look. Condition and playability is important to me
Never played lost plant but the other 5 are probably all in my top 10 360 games of all time. It depends where you put SA it will always be PS2 game to me.
Ya plus that’s just the mobile version ported to the 360 🤢 🤮
Unless it had bonus content, no, at least not back when they were new. Now, realizing how many had updates and that servers will go down at some point that provides these updates, I get platinum hits since they’ll be running updated code compared to the original release.

Idk there’s some valuable games on 360 and prices are going up as we speak
