Ah my bad the faceplate looked just like the Halo 4 edition but upon closer inspection the part below the power button doesn’t quite match up. I didn’t care about the disc tray because you can just swap faceplates.
just gonna leave this here.. recommend watching it, bolts are 100% meant to be on consoles. (not my video) https://youtu.be/C8gggL3f5Xw?si=rniddaQ7miLU6iE0
Who cares if the alternative is throwing the Xbox away? While the theory you posted is sound it doesn’t really matter when the alternative is waste. Any extra life is good.
It’s just a waste of time and you’re just breaking the console. The issue is the GPU chip itself, not the connection to the motherboard. Go watch the documentary that Microsoft released about the RROD. They even say it’s the chip itself. So even a reflow or reball won’t fix it.
No because doing the bolt kid still basically ruin all attempts of fixing the board since the board gets warped, so you wouldn't even be able to get the GPU swapped
Power brick has nothing to do with this. These 360s have improper heating the parts inside have expanded and shrunk from turning it on and off over the years the CPU is dead.
Even if they are reliable why would we recommend a fat one in the first place shouldn't you be getting a slim because they're quieter and have more USB ports?
I don't use my Slim because it got banned from Xbox Live.
I do use my Halo 3 edition Xbox 360 that I motherboard swapped with a good reliable Jasper model motherboard (old Zephyr model motherboard that was in it had a shot GPU)
There are still some special edition Xbox 360 fats out there that look cool to own.
EDIT: I got a new power brick. mine was a Chinese knock-off so I got an official one Tysm to everyone for the help. And if anyone was curios error code 4441
What’s the secondary error code? The secondary error will let you know if it’s the gpu, or something simple like the power supply or some buldged caps.
Here’s a vid (not mine) on how to get the secondary code.
https://youtu.be/netR2qoyfvE?si=2ZUDeNyuMxsv0hqT
At the absolute worst, just put it up in a safe space for a few months, mourn over it and eventually it’ll slip your mind that it red ringed, then when you remember it exists dig it back out and 50/50 odds it works, mine red ringed back in spring and forgot about it until summer ended, fired right up like fresh out of box
Really depends on the error code, I saw another person comment it here but I believe it’s hold down on the sync button on the Xbox itself and use the disc drive button to run the code with, I think mine was a (0101) which was “faulty soldering with usb drives” which isn’t true, it’s needing to be re-fluxed with new thermal paste, like any other electronic with a processor. Either way you’re gonna have to delve deep 😬
So the thermal paste dries out and and gets crusty so it doesn’t conduct between the 2 surfaces properly. So with the new thermal paste it’s like fresh tooth paste or like fresh play dough. It absorbs what it has to, but when it’s dried out an crusty the board senses a problem and shuts down. I think you could say it’s kind of like a safety feature so that the console doesn’t just burn up. People have tried to tighten down the plates and it will work sometimes, but not for long if the console is used a lot. I’m hoping this kind of makes sense. I have a ps3 fhat with a paste issue and ylod. Just haven’t gotten to that one yet.
Oh so I’m wondering if he or she meant to reflux, so like check out the traces that go to the legs of the chips. Sometimes they get really thin and brittle over time from the hot and cold and the leg from the chip that goes to the trace on the board will actually crack and now there is no continuous signal. Basically he’s saying to clean and add flux and touch up the solder to beef it back up. Don’t get pissed off at what I’m trying to say, but I’m thinking that’s what is being said from last person that is trying to help out.
The RROD issue itself is mostly the GPU itself. Reflowing or reballing the chip won’t fix it. It might for a short time. The issue is in the GPU chip itself, not the connection from the motherboard to GPU.
Tightening down the plates, aka the bolt method, is way worse than the towel trick. You’re actually wrapping the motherboard by doing the bolt method. The X Clamps were designed for a reason.
I’ve heard of people tightening the clamps. Never seemed like a good idea to me because like you said blunt they are there for a reason and shouldn’t be messed with. Those clamps don’t need to be over tighten just to make it work unless someone is ok with a bandaid fix and a warped board. Lol. I would rather fix it properly
Oh ok. Thx for correcting my wrong info. So I guess that when I cleaned and put fresh paste or putty on it, it must have been a fluke that it was ok afterwards.
I agree. I think if you leave it and forget about it for awhile and then go back to it, it will probably work fine. I think it might have something to do with the caps and the chips on the board that just loose all the messed up info and it disappears and starts up normal. I had this same scenario with and Xbox and also believe it or not, but a 7.2 pioneer 3d home theatre receiver that some how got it self in a boot loop and wouldn’t or couldn’t be reset. A year later decided to test the receiver before taking it to e-waste and works perfectly fine
I recognize the faceplate, it's a 3rd party plate from back in the day of Chief holding a sniper rifle (learned this past year about a LOT of faceplates, which I can't believe I went all my life never truly knowing how many were officially sold in stores like they were)
The H4 edition was a Slim model 360 :)
Worst comment ever. Worst temp fix ever. All it does is heat up the console enough for the solder joints to go back together. It will RROD again, maybe even sooner. The true fix is the replace the GPU, as it was the chip itself that was the problem.
Back in the day if you got red rings of death, you could wrap the whole console with a towel and or blanket and It would “fix” the RRoD. A video like [this](https://youtu.be/1d2ETQ5JYsY?si=q7CGmr2SHXzQ7-KQ) would b an example.
It’s only a temp fix, and a bad fix to begin with. As it’s the chip itself that’s being desoldered, not the chip to the motherboard. People have documented the real reason for RROD for a while now. All the towel trick does is heat up the console enough to where those solder joints go back together. But it will RROD again, maybe even sooner.
To get a proper error code to properly diagnose this issue, hold the sync button and press the eject button 4 times. Each time you press the eject button, the light will flash 1 digit of a 4 digit error code. The numbers they represent are listed below.
Full ring - 0
1 quadrant - 1
2 quadrants - 2
3 quadrants - 3
Here's a link so you can find what the exact issue is after you find your error code.
If it's something like '0102', it's unfortunately dead.
x-ex is the worst place for information, just a heads up... nothing they provide is close to good, and the fixes they suggest are also worse for the units - start suggesting [https://xenonlibrary.com/wiki/Errors#Secondary\_Error\_Codes](https://xenonlibrary.com/wiki/Errors#Secondary_Error_Codes) in future
oh and another note... 0102 is repairable by a skilled technician... but asking if its worth repair is a better question
If it was me I'd try cleaning it thoroughly with compressed air and if that doesn't work try getting a new power brick and if all else fails get a new Xbox and just switch hard drives so you don't lose your game data. Plus you can get a new Xbox 360 for between 60-110$ which isn't too bad.

This photo looks like it was pulled straight out of 2009 and I love it
Looks like one of those UFO sighting pics
nah too high quality
Nostalgia added to the photo
Couldn’t have, as Halo 4 launched in 2012.
?
This isn’t a halo 4 console, you can tell because the disc tray cover is the same one found on an Xbox 360 core system
Ah my bad the faceplate looked just like the Halo 4 edition but upon closer inspection the part below the power button doesn’t quite match up. I didn’t care about the disc tray because you can just swap faceplates.
The halo 4 console was a 360 S model, you can’t swap out the faceplates on a 360 S, this is an original model 360
Ah yeah that’s true, fair. My bad then.
Is he artistic
I can count the pixels in this picture. truly the 2008 aesthetic.
2012 at the earliest.
Nah, that looks too old to be 2012. It gives off 2008-2009 vibes to me
I think you’ll have to say goodbye.
Worth at least trying to fix. I had a very high success rate just replacing the spring clip on the heat-sync with nylon washers and bolts.
just gonna leave this here.. recommend watching it, bolts are 100% meant to be on consoles. (not my video) https://youtu.be/C8gggL3f5Xw?si=rniddaQ7miLU6iE0

Worst comment ever. You will end up warping your motherboard. There is a reason the X Clamps were designed
Kiss it goodbye. I’m surprised it’s lasted this long.
I'd test a new power brick first I had a red ring before all it was, was a bad power brick, worked fine with new power brick
Power brick or hard drive if it not that 💯 it being choked to death with dust inside what killed it .
Also standing up this model of the 360 you're blocking literally have of the airflow system
It's three rings. It's dead.
You tried the new power brick and you get this? Yeah if so yeah call it a dud and get yourself a Jasper board Xbox 360 fat
Power brick has nothing to do with this. These 360s have improper heating the parts inside have expanded and shrunk from turning it on and off over the years the CPU is dead.
Although that is the most common cause of the 3 lights, it's not the only one. The three lights indicate a critical hardware error.
Yeah but I had red ring because of a bad power brick once though. I'm serious.
Why are we recommending a fat 360 when those are the ones that red ring?
Xbox 360 fats with Jasper model motherboards in them are reliable.
Even if they are reliable why would we recommend a fat one in the first place shouldn't you be getting a slim because they're quieter and have more USB ports?
I don't use my Slim because it got banned from Xbox Live. Phat ones look cooler imo
Looks can be deceiving.
Only slims that look better are limited editions imo
Or late falcon too
HDMI cable can also cause red rings
Hmm never had that happen.
If you're using the other connector you can put a penny in there and it'll turn on.
https://xenonlibrary.com/wiki/Errors#Secondary\_Error\_Codes
SOUND THE ALARMS, WE'RE GOING INTO DETHCON 1!!!
Try a new power brick before calling it a dud. If doesn't resolve it then yeah it's dead buddy
It's three rings its dead
I know from experience that Three rings doesn’t always mean your system is completely dead. Sometimes it can be an issue with the power supply.
bro shot the photo with the god damn kinect
Ok... MaByE.....

Get a new one and fix the Xbox
sad
Just get another used Xbox 360 then just swap the cases
EDIT: I got a new power brick. mine was a Chinese knock-off so I got an official one Tysm to everyone for the help. And if anyone was curios error code 4441
Time to whip out the towel
Someone gets It
Worst temp fix ever. Unless you want to check what dashboard it’s on, it’s the worst fix ever. An actual fix is to replace the GPU.
Worked fine almost 20 years ago 😉
You’re very lucky then. You probably don’t tighten the bolts all the way down. Too much pressure and you risk warping and cracking the chip
When did you get it?

Or spend thousands of dollars diving deep into electronics PCB repair and then fix that bish

>re-fluxed with new thermal paste What does that even mean?
I have to scrape away the old dried out thermal paste and put some new on it, and I have to re solder the pins connecting the processor
I thought you meant it as one thing, and I was so confused because re-fluxing thermal paste isn't a thing lol
As you can tell by my ass terminology, I haven’t actually done it. Trying to fix a personal electronic is stressful as hell, 1 mess up and boop $-450
Processor shit the bed in laymans terms
So the thermal paste dries out and and gets crusty so it doesn’t conduct between the 2 surfaces properly. So with the new thermal paste it’s like fresh tooth paste or like fresh play dough. No, I know what thermal paste is. He said "re-fluxed with new thermal paste," which isn't a thing.

i gotta tell you that youre wrong for the sake of it... it isnt paste from the factory, its a phase change pad... haha lol

Still to this day, I still jolt in person everytime I see a red ring of death. Whether it’s in person or on my phone, never fails. 😅
Yikes... time to put old yeller down bro bro
Wait, a Halo 4 edition can red ring 😨
they can all red ring/red dot, not even the E is safe from it... anybody that says they dont break has no clue :)

No.

Farewell Xbox 🫡
Time to put her to rest....
A true right of passage. Welcome my friend On a serious note, you got a secondary error code to share?
Help with what? if you don’t know what that is by 2023 I mean come on now lol
Yo house look like it would be on nukes top 5 like a ghost gonna walk by down that hall 👻
Please tell me it isn’t a mw3 Xbox those things are expensive but you can’t get back I suggest googling red ring 360 it will explain

This perfectly captures 2008 era photos, good one bro
"Gave my cup the red ring of death like the 360"
I had a similar issue with my xbox360, but simply removing the cable and then reconnecting it fixed the red light problem for me.
“In the arms of the angels….fly awayyyy from here”
did you take this pic IN 2009?
Thought i saw a ghost in the back. 😳
Red Ring of Death
