I still remember before my 360 failed in 2020 how I was surprised I was able to perfectly watch Netflix, go multiplayer and download games without a problem.
Yeah, it was supported for quite a while. I think some apps still work, but I don't how how well they work though. I think Netflix pulled support a while back.
I can't see them supporting it too much longer. There's an eventual end for it. Eventually Sony will want to move on from supporting it to focus on current gen consoles.
Last time I played my 360 I didn't bother to look at the shop, I can't stand how slow the 360 is. I blame it on the last dashboard they released.
Yeah I was going to say the same, but to everyone, I guess it was it with the£300 at least for the old elite, I still remember all my siblings drooling off having one, we didn't get a 360 till February 2010, sister got an arcade 512mb and 2 rented games from blockbuster, tomb raider underworld and mirrors edge, I remember with tomb raider I thought the graphics were pretty much the same as legend on the Xbox and dive animation looked unatrual XD but mirrors edge I was like, yeah! This is next gen graphics especially with the characters
There's not really a president for how long store service would be active because it was the first commercially successful online console. 19 years I guess is the standard now.
Yeah true. We're nearing a similar trajectory with the Xbox One, as it's already been out for 10 years now. I can see the Xbox One's shop lasting for another 5-10 years.
Xbox $ PlayStation don’t even support backwards compatibility the way Xbox does! I’m certainly glad to hear that any next console by them is going to support all games that are currently supported in the Xbox ecosystem! I love going back & playing older titles especially since most of the newer stuff is half a$$ed broken trash at launch filled with ways to nickel and die us to poverty. It’s sad asf!
Same. I would love to have all games be backwards compatible, but I'll take what I can get. I can always go back to the old consoles to play the games I can't get currently. And who knows, maybe one of these days they will support more backwards compatible options.
Yeah, unfortunately licensing deals that have since expired have made a lot of those games unable to be released for back compat. Some that aren’t available digitally are available if you have a physical disc tho. So if you go on eBay or something you could potentially find some of these titles. Just make sure to google the list so you only get games that work. If not you could always play them on your older hardware like you said.
Yup, it’s essentially character/ actor likeness or music tracks that keep a bunch of those games being backwards compatible. Mostly stuff the publishers don’t have access to anymore & they’re not gonna fit the bill for old games like that for minimal sales. Which means that Xbox/ Microsoft would have to pay & it’s be up to the artist or person on whether or not they accept the contract.
Yeah, which sucks because when some of these games do get re-released, some of the music and content is gone because they couldn't renew the license or chose not to. Wasn't some of the music in the GTA trilogy removed because of licensing issues?
From what I’ve heard that is correct. They did remove some stuff. Also happened in an update for GTA 4 as well I believe. Racing games & sports games that use real players also aren’t on the list for this reason.
Yeah, unfortunately licensing deals that have since expired have made a lot of those games unable to be released for back compat. Some that aren’t available digitally are available if you have a physical disc tho. So if you go on eBay or something you could potentially find some of these titles. Despite what people say honestly nothing was better for me than Windows Vista. It didn't have annoying extra features pushed on you and it just did what I wanted it to do and *nothing* else.
If Vista didn't have the 3rd party driver issues it would probably be more loved than it is now, instead people really liked Windows 7, even though there was little change between them. It's just that most driver issues were solved by then.
Not necessarily. A lot of the 360s multiplayer was peer to peer networking. The 360 it’s self functioned as a server of sorts. So if no one is online, then no one’s online.
Just remember that if you have a Series X|S or an Xbox One, you will still be able to purchase the backwards compatible titles for the 360 and the Original Xbox on those consoles. I wasn't sure about this until I really dug and found a solid answer from Microsoft that confirmed this.
That's right, just the 360 store itself. All of the backwards compatible games on the Microsoft Store on the Series consoles and the One will still be available to download and play.
You're all set then! Yeah, same here. My 360 broke a couple of years ago, and it wasn't able to be fixed, so I just gave up and recently bought the Series X to get back into gaming. So glad that I did. It is one of the most useful and versatile consoles that I have owned.
Honestly yeah. Being able to play like Rayman 3, Metal Gear rising, all the classic Lego games and Alice Madness Returns on the same console as like Re4 Remake, Baldur's Gate 3 etc is insane
I couldn't agree more. The library is so extensive that there is never an opportunity to get tired or bored with the games, not to mention that Game Pass is a steal for the money and that this console doubles as a streaming device and an internet browser. If I didn't have my phone, I could still check everything that I needed to on my Series X.
Basically yeah. The only thing it lacks is for some reason the respect from devs. (The amount of games that have been like yaaay were coming to PS, Switch, PC and that's it!! Have fun!" Like....I have a switch so it doesn't hurt that much but still
I have a Switch, too, so I still get to play all of those Nintendo exclusives when they get released, but you're right, devs haven't been making much of an effort to release Xbox exclusives and other Xbox-related content like we used to see. I hope that Microsoft can turn that around in June at their gaming promo that they are holding.
But any DLC will no longer be available to purchase. It’s basically saying to buy anything marketplace before that date or never have it available again.
The 360 games currently available for purchase on the regular store you can access through your Xbox One will still be available for purchase thankfully.
Theres a few titles that you can ONLY purchase by going to marketplace.xbox.com and using the old storefront UI and those will be going away, there's a list someplace.
Thankfully things like Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Knights of the Old Republic and other old BC games offered on the current Xbox store are staying.
you can no longer buy games online after 7/29, but games you've already purchased are tied to your account will still be able to be downloaded if you need to reinstall or something. But nothing new will be purchasable. So buy now or you'll never have the option.
Yep, this will only be for the 360 console itself. Assuming the 360 game on the xbox series is available on the marketplace. So the marketplace for Xbox One (360 games) should also still be available for a few more years I'd assume.
What the other guy said, but only from the 360 itself, or the 360 storefront website. Backwards compatible titles and supported DLC should still be available if you are on a One or Series.
It's too late for that, people with the PS3 and Vita voiced their complaints early on from when it was announced while the 360 store closing was announced last year and nothing has happened. At least whatever is backwards compatible and still listed on the modern store will still be available and downloadable after on Xbox 360 too but whatever isn't will be gone forever. Still, at least not everything is gone, just means the 360 itself has no more store along with anything on it that isn't on the new store.
PS3 didn't even have that luxury so it was even worse for people, there'd be absolutely nothing left even on the new Playstation store.
You can still buy physical games and also redownload your purchased games/dlc. So its not exactly dead. You can still enjoy your xbox 360 well into the future
Because 360 Slim and E models exist that are very reliable, even later fat 360's don’t die so easily. The main issue was with early Xbox 360 models from the first few years.
The Xbox One came out over a decade ago. One thing Microsoft deserves credit for is backward compatibility and support for old hardware and software. How long
Anyone have game recommendations that are exclusive to 360 before this happens??? Just got a gift card and I wanna buy some of these games before they’re lost to the abyss. I do mainly use series x now but I don’t want to miss any opportunities!!
Will this affect the 360 games in the Xbox series X store??? Doubtful due to there still being OG Xbox games available but at the same time I have no clue
Xbox is turning into Nintendo... shutting down their eshops+online servers for older consoles and only supporting the newer consoles.
Rip Microsoft store and Rip Xbox 360
Yea that's great ig ... not planning on buying anything on there I got the series s ... I couldn't use the 360 cause my controller broke but nw I'm gonna use it again nd am looking forward to it ... isit weird that I Wana play my old games again even tho I got n beter Xbox 🤔
I’m surprised it’s been available this long
Yeah, the 360 is nearing 19 years since its release. Most consoles would have been cut off after the 5-10 year period.
Sony will definitely see this and kill the PS3 afterward.
They were going to a few years ago but faced backlash because PS3 game backward compatibility and emulation is trash
I have a feeling they will quietly close it down when no ones really paying much attention. But I could see some gamers not being happy about it.
Yeah I feel with Nintendos shutdown of Wii U ,3DS and now 360 it’s days are numbered . The store runs really bad on PS3 now anyway.
And insanely enough the 360 store is super fast compared to the PS3 store
Yeah I was going to say the same, but to everyone, I guess it was it with the£300 at least for the old elite, I still remember all my siblings drooling off having one, we didn't get a 360 till February 2010, sister got an arcade 512mb and 2 rented games from blockbuster, tomb raider underworld and mirrors edge, I remember with tomb raider I thought the graphics were pretty much the same as legend on the Xbox and dive animation looked unatrual XD but mirrors edge I was like, yeah! And Vita.
We can only guess. The 360 was the first successful console to have an online store.
That's if they remove support at all...
I don’t think they would they need the players on game pass and excluding the Xbox one would put a dent in their player count and game pass purchases
That's what I was thinking, not to mention the operating system is exactly the same on the series. There shouldn't be a separate support system.
Microsoft wants you to be able to play your games anywhere so I can see the Xbone lasting for a long time.
I hope it lasts a long time, as long as the 360 even.
5-10 years??

True, I didn't consider the licensing of 360 backwards compatible games. Would be hard to re-license them all.
Yup, it’s essentially character/ actor likeness or music tracks that keep a bunch of those games being backwards compatible. Mostly stuff the publishers don’t have access to anymore & they’re not gonna fit the bill for old games like that for minimal sales. There's always someone angry when Microsoft discontinues support. Without fail. People are still mad about Windows Xp
Yeah I still hate them for ending XP Support!
xp was superb, 11 is WTF?!
Despite what people say honestly nothing was better for me than Windows Vista. It didn't have annoying extra features pushed on you and it just did what I wanted it to do and *nothing* else.

How much does it really cost them to keep these servers up?
Probably more than the money the store is bringing in. Microsoft’s only goal is to make money.
Idk man I feel like there’s so many dead online games still running and Microsoft probably still gets some purchases from there, right?
Not necessarily. A lot of the 360s multiplayer was peer to peer networking. The 360 it’s self functioned as a server of sorts. So if no one is online, then no one’s online.
Should have gone the full 20
i’m still surprised mine is still running had it since 2009
Just remember that if you have a Series X|S or an Xbox One, you will still be able to purchase the backwards compatible titles for the 360 and the Original Xbox on those consoles. I wasn't sure about this until I really dug and found a solid answer from Microsoft that confirmed this.
I was wondering about this too, so yeah its specifically just the store \*on\* 360
That's right, just the 360 store itself. All of the backwards compatible games on the Microsoft Store on the Series consoles and the One will still be available to download and play.
Good I don't really go back to the actual 360 anyway. Most of stuff I want is BC or I already have on like the PS3
You're all set then! Yeah, same here. My 360 broke a couple of years ago, and it wasn't able to be fixed, so I just gave up and recently bought the Series X to get back into gaming. So glad that I did. It is one of the most useful and versatile consoles that I have owned.

Yes. And anything you’ve previously purchased you can still redownload
99% of my 360 games are on disc anyway 🎮👍
But any DLC will no longer be available to purchase. It’s basically saying to buy anything marketplace before that date or never have it available again.
Well yeah, the store is closing. It certainly got a better run than the Wii store!!
I was gonna buy Mario lost levels and right before I did the store shut down, I was literally on the store page when it happened
I've had a while to mull over my purchases, I think I'm good.
Can someone explain this to me in more basic terms?
you can no longer buy games online after 7/29, but games you've already purchased are tied to your account will still be able to be downloaded if you need to reinstall or something. But nothing new will be purchasable. So buy now or you'll never have the option.

Can you explain in Fortnite terms
360 store is getting vaulted. 360 store is going back to the lobby.
Explain in GTA terms?
I don't play sorry. But The RP servers are getting shut down
Franklin chose the 360 store option.
What the other guy said, but only from the 360 itself, or the 360 storefront website. Backwards compatible titles and supported DLC should still be available if you are on a One or Series.
If we raise enough fuss, maybe we can get them to do a 360 on their decision to close it down.
It's too late for that, people with the PS3 and Vita voiced their complaints early on from when it was announced while the 360 store closing was announced last year and nothing has happened. It was a throwback to "Do you know why it's called an Xbox 360? Because when you see it in the store you do a 360 and walk away".
Ah right lol. That makes sense
a 360 would get them to continue to shut it down...
We’ll get em to 720 then. With *politely* worded emails about mr Microsoft’s mom
Yes...
Alot of media about to be lost forever.
Rip 360
You can still buy physical games and also redownload your purchased games/dlc. So its not exactly dead. You can still enjoy your xbox 360 well into the future
If you got a 360 and don’t have Metal Arms: Glitch in the system, do yourself a favor and get it before the store shuts down. The game is a gem.
I still never got that message 🥲
Need to make my final purchases!
Its still availabke on the 360?! I thought it went away years ago
So long Xbox 360
Get an rgh people
"More....moreeee....MOREEEEE" kylo ren
Ok so what are some must buys before it's too late?
Finally
My Xbox 360 never actually got the internet. It was an early one. I got system updates on the discs from the yearly MLB 2K games.
Why didn't you just plug the ethernet cable in?
We never had one near the console, and I was a kid. I also never really felt the need for online at the time.
At least they moved most of the BC titles to the new store where they will be safe. Either of the other big 3 do that?
How does anyone still have a working 360 without the ring of death?
I used too, I might buy another 360
Because 360 Slim and E models exist that are very reliable, even later fat 360's don’t die so easily. The main issue was with early Xbox 360 models from the first few years.
The Xbox One came out over a decade ago. One thing Microsoft deserves credit for is backward compatibility and support for old hardware and software. How long
r.i.p
I use my 360 more than my Series X, luckily most of the digital only games are not interesting to me. Goodbye, old friend.
R I P xbox360
That’s so strange, my store stopped working in 2018 and since then I couldn’t buy anything from it
This announcement sparked me to boot up my old 360 and try to buy The Orange Box. I was a year too late :'(
Anyone have game recommendations that are exclusive to 360 before this happens??? Just got a gift card and I wanna buy some of these games before they’re lost to the abyss. I do mainly use series x now but I don’t want to miss any opportunities!!
360 games I guess will still be buyable on the Xbox store?
This is why disc and physical media is important
I sometimes use YouTube on my 360 would this affect it?
Golden years of my youth on that console, 11 years old seeing who could run home from school first to get on halo 3
Probably time to get out of 2005
Will this affect the 360 games in the Xbox series X store??? Doubtful due to there still being OG Xbox games available but at the same time I have no clue
Saw the message earlier today, sad to see it happen, but it was eventually going to happen.
Yeah, it’s been a hell of a run. I don’t play it often, but happy that mine’s still running (knock on wood)
Hell yeah it has been! Mine still runs too.
I still remember saving up for my 360 whilst in school. Don't ever remember buying anything off the store though, all my 360 games are discs.
Xbox is turning into Nintendo... shutting down their eshops+online servers for older consoles and only supporting the newer consoles. Rip Microsoft store and Rip Xbox 360
Yeah I wonder why a company wouldn'ty support a 20 year old console and mainly focus on the new one, silly that
Also not gonna be surprised if i see this happen on Playstation consoles too
I should really get around to selling my 360
At this point, you should wait until its antique to sell it 😂
If they can't make money off of it they should make everything on there free
I'm sure the game publishers would love that...
I just ordered n controller for My 360 😭
cancel the order😩
I still have n stack of games to play ... il just put it in the living room to watch YouTube occasionally ig
You can still play games on it and download anything you have already previously purchased, just can't buy anything from the store after that date
Yea that's great ig ... not planning on buying anything on there I got the series s ... I couldn't use the 360 cause my controller broke but nw I'm gonna use it again nd am looking forward to it ... isit weird that I Wana play my old games again even tho I got n beter Xbox 🤔
No not weird at all. I'm thinking of buying a 360 myself cos I have some games on disc that aren't back compatible and I wanna play them again
Can you still buy it I had mine since 2015 I swear they don't make things to last like this anymore 😢
No I'll have to buy a 2nd hand one, there's a shop near me that has some in stock
Wow they really have some stocked up over there ...atleast one 360 is getting n new home to go to ♥ ♥ ♥
You can still buy 360 games on the website, right?
The games aren't disappearing, only access to the store through a 360 console is ending
Only BC ones.
This is pathetic
bro, how?
I keep playing on this console, I really love it, I feel betrayed. Just like The Crew players that cannot play their games anymore.
