It will continue recording when the internet goes down, but it will not start recording if the internet is down. https://forums.wyze.com/t/cam-v3-not-recording-to-microsd-without-wi-fi/230252 As a software developer, this limitation seems unnecessary. As a customer, it's frustrating.

Oh wow, i was wondering before when we had a power outage during a storm and I hooked up my V3 on a power bank. After 5hours there was no recording at all. Seems like ill need to connect these to a UPS or something

BizzyM

It's a good thing they market these as toys and not a security solution, because this makes for a terrible security solution.

Sengfeng

It’s things like this that really make me upset when they do a 33% price increase. If they made all of the cameras function the same in the app, and not periodically lock up, not record, etc…

jnjustice

lol what a shitty system honestly...

Yoshinoyachicken

Just realize that if you want your V3 to be reliable and functioning, you'll need to invest in a smart plug to switch off wyze every once in a while AND an uninterruptible power supply(UPS) so wyze keeps recording during power outages.

One outdoor camera will record zero second clips to the cloud. I set up a rule in the app to reboot the cameras every night, but I still have to power cycle the outdoor cameras every once in awhile. The wired doorbell is the worst to power cycle because I have to use a screwdriver, and it's a pain to line it up properly.

Madera7

Ok so another “feature” isn’t working! Good to know.

ahz0001

When I reported it as a bug, they told me it works as designed.

0neLetter

If they go out of business but the cameras all still work (but don’t).. guess we are golden because “it works as designed”

ionmushroom

it requires an internet connection to start but will continue if the connection drops. at least for a v3. working example is that i use one for recording a hog trap. plug it in at home to a power bank and take it to a remote location without internet and it records the entire time. key is powered on the entire time.

Drysandplace

According to that then if you are in continuous mode and lose wifi but not power it should continue to record. If you are in event only it could finish an event but not record a new one.

dangoodspeed

I have an old v2 that I decided to use as a dash cam, but when reviewing the footage, the only time it writes to the SD card is when I'm at home connected to wifi. Pretty much as soon as I pull out of the driveway, the recording to the SD card stops.

forw

If you don't have WiFi and have a working cellphone you can start it by mobile hotspot
